Mother’s Day is tomorrow, May 12th. If you haven’t purchased anything for that special mom in your life, Costco has moved a series of excellent gift ideas close to its entrance.

While items may vary slightly depending on where you live, here are a few of the best Mother’s Day gift ideas we found visiting Costco this weekend.

Deluxe Vase Arrangement

Costco Deluxe Flower Arrangement
  • Price: $59.99

The flowers available at your local Costco may change, but they almost surely have a wonderful selection of flowers. While most Costco locations keep flowers stocked near their exits year-round, Costco has brought in special arrangements for Mother’s Day. If you’re looking at their Deluxe Vase Arrangement, it’s an outstanding deal as similar floral arrangements likely cost $100 or more at local grocery stores.

Floral Arrangement

Costco Floral Arrangement
  • Price: $24.99

If the Deluxe Vase Arrangement is either too large or too expensive for what you need, the Floral Arrangement is a cheaper option at $24.99. Our local Costco also had a number of potted plants that were located near its entrance. If you need some flowers for tomorrow but aren’t sure if battling Costco crowds is worth it on the weekend, they should have a large enough selection to make your trip worth it.

Dyson Supersonic

Dyson Supersonic at Costco
  • Price: $349.99

The Dyson Supersonic cost $349.99 at our local Costco (it came with a $50 instant rebate). That’s an outstanding price as Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryers cost $429.99 at almost every other retailer.

While this is the most expensive Mother’s Day idea we’ll feature, Dyson hair products are highly coveted and commonly featured in healthy and beauty accounts on Instagram and TikTok. My wife went with me to Costco and quickly pointed this out as the most coveted gift idea she saw.

Shark SmoothStyle Heated Comb and Dryer

Shark Smoothstyle at Costco
  • Price: $79.99

Shark products are cheaper than Dyson, which means you could buy a high-quality styling product at a much lower price. The Shark SmoothStyle is currently on sale ($20 off) and has two separate modes: a blow dryer mode and a heated comb mode.

SK-II Facial Treatment Essence

SK-II Facial Treatment at Costco
  • Price:$219.99

This is another product that’s on the expensive side, but the fact Costco is limiting sales to two per membership shows you how good of a deal this is. This facial treatment improves the appearance of wrinkles, spots, and improves skin texture.

An 11-ounce bottle on SK-II’s site normally costs $325 and is temporarily on sale for $276.25, which is still quite a bit more expensive than what you can find at Costco. One last note, this product has a 4.6 rating on Costco’s website with more than 6,300 reviews that are almost all extremely positive. This could be the gift that makes 2024 a memorable Mother’s Day.

Creme De La Mer

Creme De La Mer
  • Price: $139.99

With a name like Creme De La Mer, it sounds expensive and it is! A 1-ounce bottle costs $139.99. Yet, once again if we go to Costco’s website we find incredibly positive reviews. The 2-ounce bottle sold on Costco’s site boasts a 4.7 rating after more than 1,600 reviews. Here’s a sample:

“I have been using LaMer for the last 10 years. I am 70 years old and everyone remarks on my skin and they ask me what I use. Even my doctor tells me I look 10 years younger. LaMer is expensive but it lasts a very long time because as you use it over the years your skin needs less of it to maintain the moisture. I wish they would sell the larger size. I hope they will continue to carry LaMer and expand the products.”

Shiseido Benefiance NutriPerfect Day Cream

Shiseido Skin Cream at Costco
  • Price: $58.99

If the beauty creams at Costco sound like a good gift idea but you’re looking for something a bit cheaper, this option from Shiseido could be exactly what you’re looking for.

This 1.8-ounce bottle is a “protective day cream for mature skin experiencing visible signs of aging such as discoloration and loss of resilience.” The cream on Shiseido’s site costs $93 and is currently out of stock, which means this is another outstanding value from Costco.

Barefoot Scientist Smooth & Soothe Foot Set

Costco Foot Care Kit
  • Price: $19.99 (Currently on sale)

If you’re looking for a health & beauty product to throw in with some flowers that doesn’t break the bank, this could be an excellent gift idea. The pack comes with both a dual-sided smoother and a 4-ounce container of foot moisturizer.

Conair Rechargeable Vanity Mirror

Conair Vanity Mirror at Costco

Price: $23.99 (On sale through the weekend)

The Conair Rechargeable Vanity Mirror normally costs $29.99, but it’s on sale through Sunday. The product scores a very respectable 4.4 (out of 5) on Costco’s website, but it also sells for $31.99 (with the sale discount) there as well. This is an outstanding price for an item nearly every mother would love to have if they don’t already.

Glo Tech LED Compact Mirror Black or White

Glo Tech Compact at Costco
  • Price: $19.99

If you like the idea of a vanity mirror but aren’t sure if the person you’re buying the gift for has room, then you might consider the Glo Tech Compact Mirror. The mirror is a perfect item to throw in a purse and at $19.99 is an easy extra item that could accompany flowers or even come from kids who really want their own present to give mommy.

SpaFinder Gift Cards

SpaFinder Gift Card at Costco
  • Price: $69.99 ($10 off through the weekend)

Finally, we end with the “no-brainer” gift idea. Costco is selling $100 worth of SpaFinder gift cards for $69.99 until the end of the weekend. If you’re not sure whether moisturizers or gifts like a Dyson dryer are what your wife wants: it’s hard to go wrong with a spa gift card.

My only warning: this item is non-refundable. So, you may want to check SpaFinder’s website to ensure there’s a location near you.

A Brief History of Mother’s Day https://www.momswhothink.com/history-of-mothers-day/ https://www.momswhothink.com/history-of-mothers-day/#respond Tue, 26 Jan 2010 18:07:23 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=10287 The post A Brief History of Mother’s Day appeared first on Moms Who Think.

Mother's Day is celebrated around the world, but where did it begin?

It is nice to note that some traditions in our modern world remain simple and intact centering on the family. Mother’s Day is one such tradition, yet its observance in the form we know it today is a relatively modern innovation.

Whether Mother's Day is approaching or has already passed this year, you may find yourself curious about its history. The tales of the different iterations of Mother's Day can make for a fun conversation with your mom. It can also make for a great subject for a school paper!

Motherhood has been honored around the world for thousands of years, but not in the same form that we know today. For many years, motherhood was honored more generally. All mothers were given love and respect, while today celebrations center around mothers as individuals within their families.

It remains to be seen, of course, how Mother's Day might change in the future. Times change and society marches on, so one day Mother's Day as we know it may very well not exist anymore. How do you think Mother's Day will change in the coming decades or centuries?

History of Mother's Day

The Earliest Celebrations

Mothers and motherhood has always been a cause for celebration, but the earliest recorded festivities celebrating motherhood was aimed at deities; mothers of merely mortal origins were honored as a byproduct.

The Greek goddess, Cybele, who was the mother of many of the Grecian gods, was honored in ancient Greece by festivals and feasts. This is generally thought to be the first of any celebrations featuring motherhood at its heart. Parties of ancient date for other mother goddesses were held in Rome, and in most of Asia Minor. Even though these early celebrations were held for deities, earthly mothers were generally treated to flowers or other simple tokens as a part of the celebrations.

Celebrating Mother More Recently

Celebrations of more recent date are the United Kingdom’s observance of Mothering Sunday. This is a tradition dating back to the 16th century. During Lent, on the fourth Sunday, children would return home to attend Sunday church services with their mothers. It is speculated that this tradition was of enough importance that the masters of apprentices and maidservants were obliged to allow leave for them to visit mothers even at a distance.

This traditional holiday is still in force, but the mode of celebration is different and is it no longer of such significant importance. This decline in popularity could be due in part to the proliferation of differing religious denominations. Lent is no longer widely celebrated, thus many of the traditions tied to it have gone by the wayside.

Modern Mother’s Day

The modern celebration of Mother’s Day on the second Sunday in May began in 1912 with Anna Jarvis. At this time she launched her campaign to champion a holiday not just celebrating mothers or motherhood generally. It was in 1912 that Anna Jarvis established the Mother's Day International Association, and set the date of the second Sunday in May for Mother’s Day.

Ms. Jarvis was adamant about this celebration being for one mother, your mother or the mother of your family singular, not a celebration for mothers in general. This idea of honoring your mom among moms has taken off. Originally, the U.S. was unique in the holiday. Now most countries of the world have adopted the second Sunday of May as a national holiday just for Mom.

Try These Fantastic Mother’s Day Activities https://www.momswhothink.com/mothers-day-activities/ https://www.momswhothink.com/mothers-day-activities/#respond Tue, 26 Jan 2010 18:07:23 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=10289 The post Try These Fantastic Mother’s Day Activities appeared first on Moms Who Think.

What can you do all day, when its Mom’s day off? These Mother's Day activities can help you out.

Mother’s Day begins the same in houses from coast to coast. The early morning light finds befuddled dads and sleepy-eyed children in the kitchen creating a culinary delight with varying degrees of expertise for mom’s morning delight. When the meal has been properly garnished it is presented to mom in bed. Gifts are exchanged and then what? What do you do with the remainder of the day?

There are many things that can be done to make mom’s day last the beyond the morning hours and generate some fun for all.

Mother's Day Activities

GET OUT

If the day is nice, get out there and have a picnic. Mom isn’t going to care about fancy foods, but she will love having her whole family together for the day. Picnics are easy, no-fuss outings. Find a park, a river bank or a grassy patch off the beaten path spread the blanket and relax. Bring a ball or Frisbee to keep the fun going.

If Mom is really into the outdoors, consider going for a hike or even a camping trip. Pick a trail or campground that she loves, or try something totally new. You won't be able to keep a whole camping trip a secret until day-of, so make sure you tell her in advance! She'll appreciate the extra notice so she can prepare.

Keep in mind that the weather on Mother's Day can be hit-or-miss. Sometimes the weather is beautiful, other times it's rainy and cold. Have a rain day activity on hand to do as a back-up in case the weather isn't suitable. It will be disappointing for everyone, but unfortunately you can't control the weather!

STAY IN

If your mom isn’t the outdoor sort, why not plan a pampering day for Mom? The girls can give Mom a makeover. Most teenage daughters are itching to get their hands on Mom and update her look- Mother’s Day is a great excuse.

Treat mom to a manicure and pedicure; have at her hair, pampering her with a neck and scalp massage while you’re at it. Try new shades of lipstick and eye shadow; just have fun doing girlie things with mom. The day spent giggling between curls and cuticles is bound to live in memory for years to come.

Watching a movie with Mom is another great idea. Grab her favorite movie or show her something new that the family thinks she'd enjoy. Or, ask her what movie she'd like to watch! This day is all about her, so it should be her pick and her pick alone. Grab or make some snacks, settle the whole family in, and enjoy!

POTLUCK

Mother’s Day with extended family can difficult. How do you properly honor Mom, when there are several in line to be honored? There is a simple answer: host a Mother’s Day potluck. Let Dad spearhead the and possibly even host the Mother’s Day potluck at Grandma’s house.

Each family is to bring a dish to share, but it comes with stipulations. First all moms need do is show up- that’s it. The food gracing the table should be made entirely by someone else. The second requirement is that the food be one of Mom’s favorites. The meal is sometimes interesting, when the moms all choose a dessert of some type rather than a veggie dish.

Mother’s Day only comes once a year, so if dinner is comprised of chocolate in seven forms, so be it. The moms love it because they get to pass the day visiting, while dads and kids cook and clean. The kids like it because they get to play with cousins and visit Grandma’s house.

GAMES PEOPLE PLAY

Mother’s day can also be game day. Spending a few precious moments just playing together with the kids are treasure, yet they seem too few and far between. Why not spend Mother’s Day playing together? Mother's Day activities made up of simple play are an important way to honor mom and enjoy the post-breakfast hours of Mother’s Day.

Board games or outdoor games are equally as nice. Why not buy a brand new board game for the whole family to try together? If you want to keep it simple, break out a deck of cards and try a new game or a family-loved classic. No matter what, everyone will have fun!

Mom Will Love These Homemade Mother’s Day Gifts https://www.momswhothink.com/homemade-mothers-day-gifts/ https://www.momswhothink.com/homemade-mothers-day-gifts/#respond Tue, 26 Jan 2010 18:07:23 +0000 https://momswhothink.wpengine.com/homemade-mothers-day-gifts/ The post Mom Will Love These Homemade Mother’s Day Gifts appeared first on Moms Who Think.

Our homemade Mother's Day gifts are the stuff of tearful thank you’s and fond memories.

The question of what to give Mom for Mother’s day is always a bit perplexing. What can you get her that isn’t a cliché, or an obvious last minute desperation gift? Everyone wants Mom to feel special on the one day a year set aside to honor and pamper her. It is little wonder this gift is under so much pressure.

Homemade Mother's Day Gifts

Homemade gifts are the best, really. Many moms still have the little plaster handprints their kids made for them in pre-school. Their moms still have the card they made for her with their dimpled pre-school hand prints and scrawled poem. Homemade gifts become more precious as the years pass, and children grow.

To that end, here are some wonderful ideas for Mom this year that you can make for yourself; they work great for grandmas too!

Hand-Crafts

There are about a million ways to give handprints to Mom. A few of our favorite include the time-tested plaster handprint. A new and ultra-cute spin on this is the garden stepping stone. To make these you will need disposable aluminum pie plates, or 9×9 pans, water, decorations and a bag of cement mix.

1. Mix the cement according to directions
2. Pour the cement into the disposable pan, and quickly press the hands or feet of your gift giver into the wet cement.
3. Lastly, decorate!

Glass beads, buttons, broken tiles (like mosaic pieces), seashells and colored eggshells all work to make these garden stones pretty and fun. Kids love this project. Who doesn’t love the idea of putting their hands, feet, and initials in wet cement?

Cooking For Mom

This is a time tested Mother’s Day favorite, but why not kick it up a notch? Give mom the gift of home cooking. Trust us, it will really be a hit, after all one of the most stressing points of Mom’s day is ‘what’s for dinner?’. Send mom out of the house for an afternoon, gather the kids, hang an apron around their necks, and get cooking.

There are a number of meals that freeze very well. Cook and freeze a dozen or so of these meals. The kids love to cook, will learn a bit, and dinner time complaints are minimized because of the hands on help given by the children. On Mothers Day, hand mom a menu displaying all of the ready made dinners all cooked on her behalf by the children.

Scrapbooks for Mom

Instead of making a traditional scrapbook; create a wearable, huggable or snuggle-able scrapbook. These are easily created thanks to iron-on photo technology. Any office supply or craft store will have iron-on transfer paper in stock year round. You use your computer to print photos on this paper then transfer them to a blanket, t-shirt or pillow case.

Grow A Garden With Mom

Sometimes, the best Mother's Day gift is one that a mom can share with her kids! Planting a garden together will create lots of lasting memories, and will give mom something beautiful to look at every day for the rest of the growing season. It's a fun way for everyone to spend an afternoon.

Head to the store with your kids and pick out some seeds or grown plants you think Mom will love. Or, bring her along and have her pick out her favorites! This day is all about her, so let her be the one to make the decisions if she comes along. Otherwise, pick the flowers that you think she would like best.

On Mother's Day, gather all of your supplies together and get started! Make sure you provide optimal conditions for the flowers you're planting. While shopping, try to pick flowers that can grow in similar conditions. A flower that needs full sun won't do too well with a flower that needs full shade, for example.

Once the garden has been planted, mom and kids can take turns caring for it! This is a great opportunity for kids to learn more about nature and gardening. Imagine your kids' fascination when a bee or butterfly shows up! Older kids can help weed the flower garden, while younger kids can help water with a kid-sized watering can in tow.

Other Make-At-Home Ideas:

Grow a cutting garden in a small container or planter box; coupons from the kids for massages, chores or services; decoupage picture frames and other arts; a picture book written and illustrated by the kids. Get creative and make it for mom, she’s sure to love it. Homemade Mother's Day gifts are always a sure winner!
