Many of us have been there — walking into Costco with a list, determined to stick to it and only grab the essentials. But as you approach the checkout, the snack aisle is right there, tempting you to take just a quick glance. And before you know it, that quick look turns into a full-on shopping spree.

If you find yourself in Costco, passing through the snack aisle at the rows of deliciously tempting treats, all hope is not lost. A few of these treats are actually pretty healthy. Like everything, most need to be eaten in moderation. But there’s no denying the candy aisle has some delicious options. Here are 9 Costco treats worth adding to your cart before you checkout.

Kirkland Signature S’Mores Clusters

Kirkland Signature Caramel S'Mores Clusters at Costco
  • Price: $9.49
  • Weight: 1.64 pounds (26.3 oz)

The Caramel S’Mores Clusters are without a doubt one of the best Kirkland Signature products. The chocolate coating is sweet and extremely soft while the caramel steals the show. The biggest downside to Kirkland Signature’s Caramel S’Mores Clusters is it’s hard to stop eating them.

A single bag has nearly 5,000 calories, so you’ll need to limit yourself. That being said, if you have a family, once a bag is open, everyoneis going to be snacking on these.

Jojo’s Organic Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Filled Bars

JoJo's Organic Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Filled Bars at Costco
  • Price: $9.99
  • Weight: .975 pounds (15.6 oz)

Getting this out of the way, Jojo’s Peanut Butter Bars are not as good a “deal” as the S’Mores Clusters. The package is slightly less than a pound and they cost more. The bars advertise themselves as guilt-free, which you can decide for yourself.

Each bar has 180 calories and 13 grams of carbohydrates. The most important number is just 6 grams of added sugar. There’s also an emphasis on “clean” ingredients that are more limited than you’ll see from other chocolate bars.

Don’t expect to bite into one and feel like you’re eating a candy bar. With their lower sugar content, Jojo’s bars are less sweet, but they can still satisfy that chocolate craving.

Girl Scout Thin Mint Bites

Thin Mint Bites at Costco
  • Price: $11.99
  • Weight: 1.25 pounds (20 oz)

Like many Americans, I live in fear of the day my daughter brings home Girl Scout cookies. I know the house will soon be filled with Tagalongs, Samoas, and all the other treats that are almost impossible not to grab when each day.

So, it’s doubly temptingfor me now that Costco is selling bite-sized Thin Mints. The Thin Mints have 140 calories per nine pieces, and each serving comes with 15 grams of added sugar. To be sure, these are a treat you’ll need to enjoy in moderation.

My one suggestion: like Thin Mint cookies, they taste better after being stored in the refrigerator.

Simple Mills Chocolate Brownie Thin Mints

Simple Mills Chocolate Brownie Thin Mints at Costco
  • Price: $9.69
  • Weight: .88 pounds (14 oz)

Could something from Costco’s sweet treats aisle actually be healthy? The Chocolate Brownie Thin Mints from Simple Mills make a good argument. Each serving (12 things) is 140 calories, but there are only 6 grams of added sugars.

In addition, the ingredients are simple and clean. There’s a seed & nut flour blend, organic coconut sugar, tapioca starch, arrowroot, cocoa butter, Dutch cocoa powder, and cocoa extract. Simply put, there’s nothing artificial in these cookies. They’re a treat I like keeping around to give my kids.

Kirkland Signature Chocolate Almonds

Kirkland Signature Chocolate Covered Almonds
  • Price: $14.79
  • Weight: 3 pounds (48 oz)

If you’ve been shopping at Costco for a long time you get to know the iconic Kirkland Signature products. Their selection of packaged nuts is a fan-favorite, and there are also nuts that have been covered in chocolate.

There’s not a lot to say about Costco’s Chocolate Almonds aside from the fact they’re a tremendousvalue. A large 3-pound package costs just $14.79 at my local Costco. They are an excellent item to buy before the holidays when family is over.

Nature’s Garden Strawberry Yoggies

Nature's Garden Strawberry Yoggies at Costco
  • Price: $11.89
  • Weight: 1.31 pounds (21 oz)

Here’s where I’ll admit I bought Nature’s Garden Strawberry Yoggies for my kids and they barely ever eat them. The reason for this is simple: I eat them. This is my most often consumed snack. The yogurt on the outside of the strawberries is delicious and melts right off in your mouth. Then the strawberry inside is real and lacks any of the artificial taste you find in many other strawberry treats.

Nature’s Garden also plays up the number of probiotic cultures in their Yoggies. I don’t know how much of that is marketing, but the simple fact is that these snacks are delicious and any health benefits are simply a bonus on top of their outstanding flavor.

Nature Valley Crispy Creamy Wafer Bars

Nature Valley Crispy Creamy Wafer Bars at Costco
  • Price: $11.49
  • Weight: 1.63 pounds (26 oz)

I’m not personally a fan of most Nature Valley bars. They’re a bit dry. The benefit of their Crispy Creamy Wafer Bars is they have a layer of creamy peanut butter in between wafers. For me, this addition makes all the difference in turning these into a snack I enjoy.

It’s worth noting that these bars only have 7 grams of added sugar per bar. If you have a kid without allergies, this could be a good snack to pack before or after sports or other activities.

Brookside Acai & Blueberry Dark Chocolate

Brookside Chocolate at Costco
  • Price: $11.99
  • Weight: 2 pounds (32 oz)

You’ve likely seen Brookside chocolates at checkout counters at other grocery stores. I think these chocolates are delicious, and enjoy some of the more “unconventional” flavors like acai.

Of course, the main benefit of buying these at Costco is the value. A 2-pound bag goes for just $11.99. Once again, this is a great treat for putting in a dish around the holidays if you have family in town.

Boba Tea Mochi

Bubble Tea Mochi at Costco
  • Price: $8.99
  • Weight: 2 pounds (32 oz)

This is an item that might not be common across Costco locations, but my local Costco carries it and they’re a fun treat. The individual mochis come in three flavors, Thai Tea, Milk Tea, and Match. My personal favorite is the Thai Tea, which has a little extra sweetness.

If you find this item at your local Costco and enjoy bubble tea, it’s worth picking up. They’re kind of a fun treat from time to time for my kids.

Costco is famous for itshigh-quality products and its practice of quickly pulling items with high return rates. However, not every product on their shelves wins over customers.

Let’s look at 5 items you should avoid at Costco right now. Each has been poorly reviewed by customers.

Island Princess Macadamia Popcorn Crunch

  • Price: $59.99
  • Rating: 2.9 out of 5
  • Reviews: 19

This item is a web exclusive, but customers haven’t been impressed. It currently has more one and two-star reviews than it has five-star ones.

The reason is its price, the Island Princess Macadamia Popcorn Crunch costs $59.99, but most reviewers say it just tastes like popcorn. If an item isn’t providing great value, it’s going to be panned by Costco customers.

No Sugar Keto Bar Chocolate Mint

A bar of chocolate
  • Price: $42.99
  • Rating: 3.5 out of 5
  • Reviews: 84

While a score of 3.5 might not look terrible, keep in mind that more than 95% of items on Costco’s site have a score of a 4 or above, so anything below that rate is very poorly reviewed.

One recent commenter tried them in spite of reviews and wasn’t pleased.

“I went against the poor reviews thinking I might still like them; I love dark chocolate and mint anything. My husband and I both thought these were disgusting! I would not recommend, especially for the price…. big mistake. I just can’t eat these…”

The No Sugar Keto Bar that’s peanut butter flavored has a higher 4.2 rating. So it may just be that if you’re looking for a keto snack, you need to avoid their mint flavor.

Marcal 100% Recycled Bath Tissue

  • Price: $56.99
  • Rating: 2.8 out of 5
  • Reviews: 24

Marcel’s bath tissue (toilet paper) is 100% recycled. In the package, you get 16 rolls that have 168 sheets per roll. Then there are six packages per order, which means you get a total of 96 rolls of toilet paper!

While that sounds like a lot, reviewers over and over again commented on how small each roll was. Another complaint was the quality of the toilet paper, which reviewers felt was too rough.

A’cappella Caramel Ensemble

Woman Eating Chocolate
  • Price: $42.99
  • Rating: 3.0 out of 5
  • Reviews: 8

While A’cappella’s Caramel Ensemble only has 8 reviews, their products are generally poorly reviewed on Costco’s website. Their Bark Ensemble has a 3.8 rating while their Knotty Grahams are rated a 3.5.

While the chocolates do have their fans, most complaints center on their flavor. One Costco customer tried all three flavors and came away disappointed each time:

“Terrible, just terrible. The caramel is gritty and bland, the chocolate is chalky and just not good. I love almost all chocolate—cheap and expensive, but this was a waste of money. We tried all 3 varieties offered—caramel, bark and pretzels, and none were worth eating and all went into the trash. Super disappointed.”

Butterfinger, Crunch, Baby Ruth Minis Chocolate Candy, Variety Pack

  • Price: $14.99
  • Rating: 3.1 out of 5
  • Reviews: 9

Reviewers don’t love this product for a simple reason: it’s billed as a variety pack, but multiple buyers said it was almost all Butterfinger bars!

“85% butterfinger, 5 baby ruth, and about a dozen crunch. Definitely not a “mix”. The chocolate was fine, delivery was delayed. Meh”

Another went into even more detail:

“Suppose to be 100 pieces, actually got 98, 69 of which were absolutely very tiny size Butterfingers. Got 15 Baby Ruth and 14 Crunch. Got this package because I assumed each variety would be equally proportioned, but obviously MFG trying to unload their Butterfinger quantities. Clearly misleading packaging advertising and not even 100 pcs but less.”

If you’re looking for a variety pack of candy bars, you’ll want to avoid this one.

Costco is famous for many things, like its quality Kirkland brand, but nothing is as beloved as its famous food court hot dogs. These inflation-safe treats have remained at their 1984 price – $1.50 – and have become something of a cult status, even spawning a cult-like following.

But the company has recently experimented with new items, hoping to offer food fans a few different options during their shopping outings. So far, shoppers are impressed and this new addition seems to be a hit. Whether it will give the hot dog a run for its money remains to be seen, but only time will tell.

Costco Previously Had a Roast Beef Sandwich On Its Menu

Costco Roast Beef Sandwich on Food Court Sign

The item was widely panned as it was simply too expensive. It cost $9.99, which is a far cry from hot dogs for $1.50 and pizza slices priced at $1.99.

The Roast Beef Sandwich Simply Didn’t Taste Very Good

Costco Food Court Items on a Table

The Costco Roast Beef Sandwich was compared to other Costco’s Food Court items. The verdict was not good. The sandwich used the same mustard found in Costco’s food court as a condiment.

This was likely to simplify ingredients and save cost, but it also felt “cheap” for a sandwich that cost $9.99. In addition, Costco didn’t add any cheese to the Roast Beef Sandwich, which was an odd omission.

Costco Officially Removed the Roast Beef Sandwich Over the Winter

Costco Roast Beef Sandwich

Last Fall, a Costco employee posted on Reddit that warehouses would be removing the Roast Beef Sandwich from menus, and by late winter it was being removed from Food Courts across America.

In its place was a new sandwich that offered a more compelling value.

Costco Introduces a Turkey Sandwich for $6.99

Costco Food Court Menu with Turkey Sandwich

Replacing the Roast Beef Sandwich is a new Turkey Swiss Sandwich that costs $6.99. While that price is higher than items like pizza slices for $1.99 or Chicken Bakes for $3.99, it’s much more in line with the pricing of other Food Court items.

The Turkey Swiss Sandwich was Surprisingly Delicious

Costco Turkey Swiss Sandwich with Other Items

While the Roast Beef Sandwich used what appeared to be the same mustard Costco uses on its hot dogs, the Turkey Swiss Sandwich uses two separate spreads. It has a sun-dried tomato and a mayo/mustard spread.

Simply put, they’re delicious and make the sandwich taste much more savory. Costco really nailed putting the right condiments on this sandwich, which is an area they failed on with the Roast Beef Sandwich.

The Turkey Sandwich Improves on the Roast Beef Sandwich In Every Way

Costco Turkey Swiss Sandwich

In addition, the Turkey Swiss Sandwich actually includes cheese, which is a welcome addition. The sandwich had two hearty slices of Swiss cheese that balanced out all the turkey.

Finally, at $6.99 the sandwich is just simply a better value than the Roast Beef Sandwich. While Costco’s Roast Beef Sandwich is something that most likely won’t be ordered again, the Turkey Swiss Sandwich will most likely be a yes on future visits.

One Downside: It’s Heavy in Calories

Costco Turkey Swiss Sandwich

The biggest downside to the Turkey Swiss Sandwich is that it’s fairly heavy in calories with 900. That’s more than a Chicken Bake (840), a slice of cheese pizza (710), or a $1.50 hot dog (580 without a soda).

Of course, part of the reason the calories on this sandwich are high is Costco is generous with items like cheese. If you’re counting calories, you could either split the sandwich with someone or save part of it for a later meal.

Costco Also Recently Removed Churros

Beyond adding the Turkey Swiss Sandwich to its menu, Costco also recently removed churros from food court menus. Churros were a long-time staple, but the vendors providing churros had changed over the years and many Costco members complained their quality was degraded.

In Place of the Churro, Costco Has Added a Cookie

Costco Chocolate Chip Cookie

The Double Chocolate Chunk Cookie is served warm and includes lots of rich and gooey chocolate. At 750 calories, it’s a lot for a dessert so this might be another item you want to split with someone.

One Final Tip: Dip the Cookie in Ice Cream

Costco Ice Cream Sandwich

Costco sells ice cream cups for $1.99 in both chocolate and vanilla. Many Costco fans have created a “secret menu item” by putting ice cream in between the Double Chocolate Chip Cookie. This definitely makes the cookie much better.

However, there’s no need to put ice cream in between the cookies. You can simply dip the cookie into an ice cream cup which is even more delicious. If you’re indulging in a cookie on your way out of Costco, definitely add some ice cream next time.

Many of us often zip through Costco, list in hand, set on only getting what we need. But then we head to the checkout counter and there it is, the dreaded snack aisle, beckoning us to merely stroll through and simply take a look. We never just take a look though, do we?

If you find yourself in Costco, passing through the snack aisle at the rows of deliciously tempting treats, all hope is not lost. A few of these treats are actually pretty healthy. Like everything, most need to be eaten in moderation. But there’s no denying the candy aisle has some delicious options. Here are 9 Costco treats worth adding to your cart before you checkout.

Kirkland Signature S’Mores Clusters

Over the weekend a popular thread on Reddit had Costco shoppers sharing their most unpopular opinions on the company, and plenty proved very controversial. We’ve compiled the 9 most popular opinions and provided our take on whether each one has merit.

Once the list is over, let us know what unpopular opinions on Costco you agree with.

1. Moving Things Around and Rearranging the Store Is Annoying

Costco Meat Section

One of the most upvoted unpopular opinions was:

“Moving things around and rearranging the store constantly doesn’t make it feel like a ‘treasure hunt’ – it’s just annoying.”

Our take: 99% of the items we shop for on Costco trips are in the same spot time and time again. It is true, however, that it can be annoying when you begin really liking an item and suddenly it leaves Costco shelves. The company’s focus on keeping just 4,000 (or less) products per store – which is about 1/10th a normal grocery store – is partially to blame here.

2. Items Are Too Large

Costco Muffins

This opinion can be summed up from a couple of popular comments.

“Sometimes it really is better to buy something at a grocery store instead of Costco. And you realize this too late when you are throwing away 100 packets of expired whatever”

“Why do i need to buy 12 muffins”

Our take: Obviously you are getting savings in large part from buying in bulk, and Costco will always sell that way. However, there are some items we agree could be downsized. An option to purchase six muffins would be appreciated as most will go to waste unless you bring them to a large gathering. Costco sells some items like Rotisserie Chickens in smaller portions, for example.

3. Free Samples Are Bad

Costco Free Ice Cream Samples

It might surprise you that a lot of people don’t like free samples!

“I hate the free samples. It causes traffic jams”

Our take: This is a tough one to agree with, as we’ve discovered many items we love by trying out free samples. That being said, we have to agree they can make shopping on a busy Saturday even more difficult.

4. The Produce is Not Very High Quality

Costco Strawberries

Costco has very cheap produce, but more than 2,300 readers agreed with this comment:

“The produce is often not very high quality (or was picked too early) and also not a value relative to conventional grocery stores.”

Our take: There is no question Costco’s produce can be hit or miss, but this is generally true across grocery stores. We still feel that Costco’s produce is a good value, especially if freeze extras to create items like smoothies once they’re starting to lose their freshness.

5. Costco is TOO Generous

Here’s an opinion you may not have expected: Costco is too generous.

“Refund policies should be more strict and memberships should be revoked if someone brings an unauthorized animal into the store.”

Our take: Costco is famous for its generous refund policy, but there is a feeling all shoppers “pay for it” when it gets taken to excess. We appreciate Costco’s refund policy, but if it were to get “stricter” would also understand. Some members have seen their memberships revoked for excessively returning items. In letters, Costco has apologized for being “unable to satisfy [you] as a member” and refunded Membership dues to those who took advantage of return policies.

6. Members Don’t Like How Quickly Christmas Items Go On Display

Costco is famous for its number of holiday items, but when they start appearing in warehouses bothers some members:

“I know people like Christmas shopping early, but it depresses me to see decorated trees and animatronic snowmen in August.”

Our take: It is always jarring seeing Christmas items out on days when the temperature can hit 90 degrees. We’ll file this one under a “minor annoyance.”

7. The Chicken Bake is Bad

Costco Food Court Items on a Table

Almost 300 people agreed with this comment:

“The chicken bake is NASTY”

Our take: Sorry, there are some comments we just can’t agree with. The Chicken Bake is delicious.

8. Costco Needs a 5-Item or Less Line

Another comment that’s picking up steam is that Costco needs a 5-item or less line.

“There needs to be a 5 items or less line”

Our take: This would be great, if we ever managed to leave the store with five items or less! However, there’s no question the checkout experience is one of the most frustrating parts of Costco. Self-checkout helps, but an express self-checkout for limited items would be beneficial.

9. The Food Court Isn’t Good

Costco Food Court Sign

Not everyone loves the Food Court.

“I do not understand why the food court is popular. Nothing about a big box shopping experience makes me want to hang out and eat there.”

Our take: We kind of get it. A post recently went viral of an Italian person reacting to Costco’s pizza. If you haven’t been shopping at Costco for a long time, the value of the Food Court may be a bit confusing. However, the bottom line is the word value. The $1.50 Hot Dog is simply iconic and represents everything about Costco.

Costco Food Court’s New Sandwich is Surprisingly Delicious https://www.momswhothink.com/the-costco-food-courts-new-sandwich-is-surprisingly-delicious/ https://www.momswhothink.com/the-costco-food-courts-new-sandwich-is-surprisingly-delicious/#respond Fri, 31 May 2024 15:10:00 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=231790&preview=true&preview_id=231790 The post Costco Food Court’s New Sandwich is Surprisingly Delicious appeared first on Moms Who Think.

Costco’s Food Court is famous for its $1.50 hot dogs, but the company is constantly experimenting with new items. Recently, Costco added a new sandwich to its Food Court menu and I stopped by a Costco to try it. Let’s see how Costco’s newest item ranks against other famous items like its hot dogs and pizza slices.

I ordered the Costco Roast Beef Sandwich and compared it with Costco’s other Food Court items.

Costco Officially Removed the Roast Beef Sandwich Over Winter

Costco Roast Beef Sandwich

Last Fall, a Costco employee posted on Reddit that warehouses would be removing the Roast Beef Sandwich from menus, and by late winter it was being removed from Food Courts across America.

In its place was a new sandwich that offered a more compelling value.

Costco Introduces a Turkey Sandwich for $6.99

Costco Food Court Menu with Turkey Sandwich

Replacing the Roast Beef Sandwich is a new Turkey Swiss Sandwich that costs $6.99. While that price is higher than items like pizza slices for $1.99 or Chicken Bakes for $3.99, it’s much more in-line with the pricing of other Food Court items.

The Turkey Swiss Sandwich was Surprisingly Delicious

Costco Turkey Swiss Sandwich with Other Items

I tried the Turkey Swiss Sandwich and sampled it against other Food Court items. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the sandwich.

My sandwich had two hearty slices of Swiss cheese that balanced out all the turkey.

Finally, at $6.99 the sandwich is just simply a better value than the Roast Beef Sandwich. While I would have never ordered Costco’s Roast Beef Sandwich again,I will order the Turkey Swiss Sandwich on future visits.

In the Churro’s Place Costco Has Added a Cookie

Costco Chocolate Chip Cookie

The Double Chocolate Chunk Cookie is served warm and includes lots of rich and gooey chocolate. At 750 calories, it’s a lot for a dessert so this might be another item you want to split with someone.

One Final Tip: Dip the Cookie in Ice Cream

Costco Ice Cream Sandwich

Costco sells ice cream cups for $1.99 in both chocolate and vanilla. Many Costco fans have created a “secret menu item” by putting ice cream in between the Double Chocolate Chip Cookie. I tried this and it makes the cookie much better.

However, I thought simply dipping the cookie into an ice cream cup was even more delicious. If I’m indulging in a cookie on my way out of Costco, I’ll definitely add some ice cream next time as well!

25 Costco Services That May Surprise You: From Life Insurance to Truck Rentals https://www.momswhothink.com/costco-services-that-may-surprise-you-from-truck-rentals-to-home-insurance/ https://www.momswhothink.com/costco-services-that-may-surprise-you-from-truck-rentals-to-home-insurance/#respond Sat, 25 May 2024 15:45:00 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/costco-services-that-may-surprise-you-from-truck-rentals-to-home-insurance/ The post 25 Costco Services That May Surprise You: From Life Insurance to Truck Rentals appeared first on Moms Who Think.

Costco offers a series of that many members aren’t even aware of. On this list, you’ll discover many of the services offered by Costco and the partners they’re working with. From pet insurance to bath remodeling, let’s review the more than two dozen services offered by Costco.

Fun Fact: Costco Sold More than 800,000 Cars in 2021

That’s an astounding number of cars, but it’s true! The book The Joys Of Costco got access to Costco management and they revealed that Costco’s Auto Program sold more than 800,000 cars in 2021!

Costco Auto Program

Costco’s Auto Program works to get members prearranged pricing from approved dealers. If you’re hoping to take the hassle out of car buying, it’s an exceptional service. The Auto Program includes both new and pre-owned vehicles, and also gives members parts & services discounts up to 15%.

In total, Costco says the Auto Program has over 5 million satisfied members the past five years, so this is definitely one of Costco’s most popular perks!

Costco Travel

Here’s another fun fact: Costco Travel employs more than 900 travel agents! Costco Travel sells packages, hotels, cruises, and rental cars. Even if you’re going to Disney it’s a good idea to check Costco Travel. Right now they’re offering Disneyland packages that include 15% off select stays, gift cards up to $260, and early theme park entry.

Auto and Home Insurance

Costco CONNECT partners with American Family Insurance to offer members both home and auto insurance. One big caveat is that Costco Insurance Agency is currently not offering policies in California or Florida.

Reviews online have been mostly positive – with CONNECT members saying Costco was cheaper than alternatives. In addition, there was satisfaction with the ease with which claims were handled. With insurance rates ballooning across the country, if you’re a Costco member it’s worth getting a quote to see if this service can save you hundreds of dollars annually.

Life Insurance

Costco partners with Protective to offer Life Insurance. I got a personalized quote, and was surprised how good the rates were. You can get coverage from $100,000 to $5 million. It’s worth noting that Executive Members receive additional savings.

Personalized Photo Services

Costco partners with Shutterfly to offer prints, photo books, cards and stationery, home decor and photo gifts, calendars, wall art, and more. It’s worth noting that some online reviews of Shutterfly’s services have been generally negative.

My recommendation would be to test out a cheaper service such as prints, and if you’re happy with the quality you can use more of Costco’s photo services. An online alternative for prints that reviewers have been happy with is Mpix.

Pet Insurance

Pet insurance is a partnership with FIGO. Costco Gold Star and Business Members get a 15% discount while Executive Members also get their enrollment fee waived. It’s worth noting that pet insurance won’t cover pre-existing conditions and certain operations like spaying or neutering. It does include emergency hospitalizations, chronic conditions, dental illnesses, prescriptions, imaging, prosthetics, hip dysplasia, and other conditions.

Custom Closet & Storage Design

Costco has partnered with the Closet Factory to give members a 10% Costco Shop Card on qualifying Closet Factory home organization purchases.

Closet Factory has organizational solutions for almost every room. Whether you want to build more storage into your garage, add a wall bed, design the home office of your dreams, or build a home library. If you’re an Executive Member you’ll also get a 2% reward on any Closet Factory purchases.

Bottled Water Delivery

Costco has plenty of business perks, and one is bottled water delivery. The company partnered with Primo Water to offer water in 5-gallon and 3-gallon bottles. The bottles fit on water dispensers and are perfect for offices.

Budget Truck Rental

Yes, Costco even has a deal with Budget Truck Rental! If you’re looking to move, you’ll definitely want to check with Costco since members can get up to a 25% discount on rentals. If you’d like to call Budget Truck they can be reached at 800-971-1052. From there you’ll want to ask about the Costco Member discount.

Solar Panel Installation

If you’re thinking of adding solar panels to your house, you’ll want to check with Costco first. Thanks to a partnership with Sunrun, Costco members can receive a 10% Costco Shop Card on qualifying purchases. Executive Members will also earn a 2% reward on this purchase.

Member Prescription Program

Costcohas a site where you can search prescriptions to see if you get a discount with your Costco membership. Simply type in the name of your medication, show your Costco card to a participating pharmacy, and you’ll save up to 80% on medications.

Other Costco Services

Beyond all the services listed above, Costco offers plenty more. Here are some others that may be of interest to you:

  • Business Health Insurance
  • Checks and Forms
  • RV Discounts
  • Payment Processing (for businesses)
  • Blinds, Shades, and Shutters
  • Generator Installation

It’s almost summer, and that means some incredible sales on seasonal deals at Costco. We reviewed some of the best deals at our local Costco warehouse. Some of these sales end soon, but most don’t expire until June 9th.

Remember, not every Costco will have exactly the same items in their warehouses but most of these products can be found in most stores and some have lower prices in stores than you can find online.

Weber Genesis II E335 Propane Grill

Costco Genesis II E335 Gas Grill
  • Sale Price: $699.99
  • Normal Price: $799.99
  • Sale Expires: May 26th

The Weber Genesis II E335 has a 4.5-star review from 229 reviews on Costco’s website. If you try buying there, you’ll find it listed for $849.99. That means a trip to your local warehouse could save you an incredible $150.

Nutribullet Ultra Deluxe Single Serve Blender

Nutribullet at Costco
  • Sale Price: $89.99
  • Normal Price: $199.99
  • Sale Expires: June 9th

The Nutribullet scores a 4.4-star review on Costco’s website and is temporarily $30 off through June 9th. A recent review from Costco’s site was more than glowing:

“This is the first “bullet style” blender I have purchased. I usually use my Vitamix, but wanted something smaller and easier to clean to make a quick healthy smoothie. I am blown away by the power of this little machine, it is also very stable and very quiet for a blender. It took less than 30 seconds to power through all the ingredients including fresh fruit and ice cubes; perfectly blended and so smooth… and it only takes a few minutes to clean everything up, super easy! I can already see that I will use this a lot more than I thought I would, and for more than just smoothies. Highly recommend.”

Shark 2-In-1 Cordless Fan

Shark Cordless Fan at Costco
  • Sale Price: $119.99
  • Normal Price: $149.99
  • Sale Expires: June 9th

The Shark Cordless Fan offers extreme portability. you can either kept it plugged in as a standard fan, or you can take the plug out and use it as a pedestal fan. Shark claims the fan can go cordless for up to 24 hours straight. If you’re looking for a fan you could take outdoors, this would be an excellent option.

Midea 12K BTU U-Shaped Window Air Conditioner

Costco Air Conditioner
  • Sale Price: $279.99
  • Normal Price: $359.99
  • Sale Expires: June 9th

It’s summertime, so Costco is loaded up on items to beat the heat. If you’re in need of something more than a fan, many Costco warehouses have the 12K BTU Window Air Conditioner from Midea. Reviews of the unit have generally been very positive. A few commentators on Costco’s site have complained their unit eventually broke, but some have praised the warranty and said they were able to get a replacement. Here’s a sample review from Costco’s site:

Worked great until it didn’t. Lasted about a year and then experienced a refrigerant leak. Tech support was helpful and arranged for a replacement. So far so good. Overall would recommend.

Circulon 11-Piece Cookware Set

Circulon A1 Series with ScratchDefense 11 piece Non-Stick Cookware Set
  • Sale Price: $149.99
  • Normal Price: $109.99
  • Sale Expires: June 9th

This product scores an outstanding 4.8-star review off 244 reviews on Costco’s site. Many reviews rave about the quality of the non-stick surface. Circulon claims these pots are 15X longer-lasting than prior generations and include added scratch resistance. Costco reviewers have been almost universally positive in their acclaim for this cookware set:

“Best non-stick surface I have ever used! This new generation of non-stick technology lives up to its billing. I love the largest frying pan – it has a flat bottom and is wide enough that all the food I want to cook lies flat. It is deep enough that the food does not spill out of the pan when I am stir frying. The lids on the pots double as strainers – a very nice feature. The largest pot is somewhat shallow so I saved my large pot from my old set to use to cook pasta. Only over safe to 400 degrees because of the material used to make the handles but I that’s the trade off if you want safer handles which will not burn you when hot. I highly recommend this set! The price point is good.”

Shark Cordless Pro Stick Vacuum with Clean Sense IQ

Shark Cordless Vacuum
  • Sale Price: $219.99
  • Normal Price: $279.99
  • Sale Expires: June 9th

Dyson vacuums are great and have been on sale at Costco recently, but even on sale they are expensive. One alternative is cordless vacuums from Shark. Right now the Shark Cordless Pro Vacuum is $60 off, taking its price down to $219.99. Reviews have been mixed on Costco’s site. Here’s a review that highlights the pros and cons of this vacuum:

“Read the reviews and decided to give it a try. Like others have said a bit awkward but once you get the feel you can easily maneuver it around the room. Easily unlatch to get under furniture for several passes and then with a little hand motion it will re-latch to normal use. Dust pick-upis better than expected and have not hair wrap on the roller. The burnishing action makes hardwood floors shine. My only negative is the construction seems a little loose in the joints between the power head and attachment points. Purchased an additional battery for extended run time and can quickly do a few rooms with power to spare. Recharge time is quick as well.”

Ninja Dualbrew Grounds & Pods Coffee Maker

Ninja DualBrew XL Grounds & Pods Hot & Iced Coffee Maker
  • Sale Price: $89.99
  • Normal Price: $129.99
  • Sale Expires: June 9th

If you’re looking for a coffee maker that can do it all, look no further. Ninja Foodi 10-in-1 Countertop Oven Pro

Ninja Foodi 10-in-1 Smart XL Air Fry Oven
  • Sale Price: $139.99
  • Normal Price: $179.99
  • Sale Expires: June 9th

Speaking of combo products that can save counter space, the Ninja Foodi 10-in-1 offers air fry, whole roast, air roast, bake, dehydrate, pizza, bagel, toast, broil, and reheat settings. Reviews have been stellar on Costco’s site, with the oven scoring 4.6 stars.

Timber Ridge Directors Chair

Timber Ridge Directors Chair
  • Sale Price: $39.99
  • Normal Price: $49.99
  • Sale Expires: June 9th

The Timber Ridge Directors Chair is nothing fancy, but it’s a sturdy chair that’s a good deal. If you’re already stopping by Costco and could use some more chairs for summer events, this is a great deal and $10 off through June 9th.

Ring 8-Piece Wireless Security Alarm Kit

Ring Wireless Security System
  • Sale Price: $14.99
  • Normal Price: $199.99
  • Sale Expires: June 9th

Buyers of this security system have been happy, as it scores 4.7 stars on Costco’s site. Reviewers praise the system’s value and ease of setup.

Coho Injection Molded Cooler

Coho Injection Molded Cooler
  • Sale Price: $49.99
  • Normal Price: $59.99
  • Sale Expires: May 26th

A great cooler is essential for summer, but they can get pricey. The Coho injection molded cooler is high-quality, but doesn’t break the bank. For $49.99, you can get a cooler that both keeps products cold and is extremely durable.

Scott Burket 42″ Boogie Board

Vitamix Venturist Pro Blender

Vitamix Venturist Pro Blender with SELF-DETECT Technology
  • Sale Price: $319.99
  • Regular Price: $399.99
  • Sale Expires: May 19th

While this blender is expensive, the reviews on Costco’s website have been positive. I found the one below especially helpful as it shows the blender’s value:

I used to have a Vitamix back over 10 years ago. I don’t remember why I did not keep it. I had all kinds of blenders in between, we all know the brands who claim to be as good, which they are until you try make a smoothie with seeds and notice they do not break or pulverize the seeds. I am one of them.
So I jumped on that great offer and got this one yesterday when it was on sale for $319 (it is over $500 directly from Vitamix).
I have made two of my protein shakes, with frozen berries and plenty of flax, chia and hemp seeds. Amazingly after blending for about 30 seconds or so, not a single seeds was left in my protein shake. And that, since I am still working with the 64 oz container, which is (according to Vitamix customer service) a little big for the amount I blend. I have ordered a 48 oz. container, waiting for it.
I think I made the right decision.

This is a strong sale price if you’re looking for a jump starter to keep in your house. The CAT can power household AC, USB type C and A, jump start a car, and has an air compressor. One note of warning, the CAT Cube on Costo’s website has received poor reviews that you may want to review before purchasing.

Strivectin Peptight Tightening Eye Serum

Tightening Eye Serum at Costco
  • Sale Price: $39.99
  • Regular Price: $58.99

This might be a product that Costco is looking to clear out inventory after Mother’s Day because it’s a substantial price cut. If you’re looking for beauty products like this, my recommendation would be to read the reviews for this product on Costco’s website. Right now it has a 4.0 review with 420 total reviews. Some people think the product is incredible while others have complaints.

Avoid These 5 Items at Costco – Each One is Poorly Reviewed https://www.momswhothink.com/avoid-these-items-at-costco/ https://www.momswhothink.com/avoid-these-items-at-costco/#respond Wed, 15 May 2024 17:09:21 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=230452&preview=true&preview_id=230452 The post Avoid These 5 Items at Costco – Each One is Poorly Reviewed appeared first on Moms Who Think.

Costco is famous for the quality of products sold in their warehouses and they’re quick to remove items that are commonly returned. That being said, not every product sold at their warehouses are winners.

I Tried the “Secret” New Costco Food Court Item – And It’s a Winner https://www.momswhothink.com/i-tried-the-secret-new-costco-food-court-item-and-its-a-winner/ https://www.momswhothink.com/i-tried-the-secret-new-costco-food-court-item-and-its-a-winner/#respond Wed, 15 May 2024 15:50:40 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=230397&preview=true&preview_id=230397 The post I Tried the “Secret” New Costco Food Court Item – And It’s a Winner appeared first on Moms Who Think.

Costco’s Food Court is beloved for its fantastic deals. There’s the classic $1.50 Hot Dog with a Soda deal, $1.99 slices of pizza, and other favorites like Chicken Bakes.

Recently, Costco removed some items from its Food Court and added new additions. Food Court fans have stumbled upon a “secret” item you can order and it’s causing a stir on social media. Let’s look at the new items in Costco’s Food Court and then how you can order this “secret” item that’s not listed on the menu but is delicious!

Costco Often Changes Its Food Court Items

Costco Food Court Sign

In the past, Costco’s Food Court has had everything from cheeseburgers to BBQ sandwiches. However, the menu frequently changes. While items like Costco’s $1.50 Hot Dog and Chicken Bakes are staples with little chance of moving off the menu, other items frequently change.

The Most Recent Change was Removing a Roast Beef Sandwich

Costco Roast Beef Sandwich on Food Court Sign

Costco had aRoast Beef sandwich on its menu that caused controversy online. The simple reason is it was too expensive, costing $9.99. Costco’s Food Court isn’t beloved just because the food is good, items achieve cult status because of their value. At $9.99, the Roast Beef sandwich was simply too expensive relative to other items like slices of pizza for $1.99 or desserts for $3 or less.

The Roast Beef Sandwich has Been Replaced By a Turkey Sandwich

Costco Turkey Sandwich

Costco recently replaced its Roast Beef sandwich with a turkey version that sells at a cheaper $6.99 price point. I tried it recently and was pleasantly surprised. The sandwich was very flavorful thanks to generous amounts of cheese and turkey. In addition, it has a sun-dried tomato spread that’s outstanding.

In addition to changing out its sandwiches, Costco has also been making adjustments to the dessert side of the Food Court menu.

After a Long Run, Costco Removed the Churro from Its Food Court Menu

The has long been a staple on Costco’s Food Court menu. However, it has finally left Costco Food Courts. While the Churro was beloved, Costco fans had complained in recent years that its consistency and flavor had changed in recent years. The Churro leaving Costco’s menu made room for a new dessert addition.

Costco Replaced the Churro with a Chocolate Chip Cookie

Costco Chocolate Chip Cookie

Replacing the Churro on Costco’s menu is their new Chocolate Chip Cookie. It costs $2.49 and clocks in at 750 calories, so it’s a substantial cookie that you’ll likely want to share. I’ve had the cookie a couple of times, and my biggest complaint is there’s simply too much chocolate.

I know, that might sound like heresy to chocolate lovers out there, but warm cookies that are heavy in chocolate require something like ice cream to balance them. That’s why Pizookies served at BJ’s restaurants come with scoops of ice cream on top.

Costco Fans Have Created a “Secret” Item – The Cookie Sandwich

Costco Ice Cream Sandwich

Fans of restaurants like Starbucks or In-N-Out have created “secret” menu items where you make additions to drinks or burgers to create entirely new ones.

So it shouldn’t shock you that Costco Food Court fans have been finding their own hacks to create new items. One of the most popular ones is the “Cookie Sandwich.” You buy the Costco Chocolate Cookie Sandwich for $2.49 and then add an ice cream cup for $1.99.

After that, you can cut your cookie in half and spread ice cream between the sides to make a sandwich!

Adding Ice Cream to Costco’s Cookie is a Game Changer

Costco Cookie Sandwich

As I noted above, Costco’s Chocolate Chip Cookie by itself has a bit too much chocolate and benefits tremendously from the balance of ice cream.

My one complaint – if you see the picture of me trying the sandwich above – the ice cream spills out the side very easily. That’s because the cookie is pretty strong and also warm, which melts the ice cream in the middle slightly. If you’re buying a cookie ice cream sandwich at a store it’s normally frozen together which prevents the ice cream from squeezing out the side.

Dipping the Cookie Directly Into the Ice Cream Works Better Than a Sandwich

Costco Cookie Spreading Ice Cream On It

However, you don’t need to create a sandwich. Another option is simply spreading ice cream on the cookie and it works fine. In fact, I prefer this method.

The Costco Chocolate Chip Cookie is 750 calories, so splitting it in half with someone is probably ideal since that’s just a lot of calories and sugar! You can either dip the cookie into Costco’s cup of ice cream directly, or you can take a fork or knife and spread it on bites.

You’ll likely have plenty of ice cream left over, which isn’t a bad thing to snack on as you exit Costco. It is almost summer after all!

Costco’s Cookie with Ice Cream is Now My Favorite Snack at their Food Court

Costco Ice Cream with Cookie at Food Court

Other desserts on Costco’s Food Court include:

  • Ice Cream Sundae ($2.49)
  • Ice Cream Cup ($1.99)
  • Cold Brew Mocha Freeze ($2.99)
  • Fruit Smoothie ($2.99)

If I’m heading back to Costco and want dessert, I’ll likely opt for the Chocolate Chip Cookie with Ice Cream as a primary option. The Cookie by itself is a good value, but when combined with ice cream I’d give it a solid 8.5 out of 10.

These are the Best 23 Summer Items at Costco Right Now https://www.momswhothink.com/the-best-summer-items-at-costco-all-available-for-a-limited-time/ Sat, 11 May 2024 17:35:36 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=229860&preview=true&preview_id=229860 The post These are the Best 23 Summer Items at Costco Right Now appeared first on Moms Who Think.

Costco buyers work far in advance to find the right items for each season. During Christmas, that includes finding the right toy suppliers and holiday decorations. During the fall it’s stocking the store with more items like space heaters that are ideal for cold weather.

As you can imagine, summertime means Costco is getting ready for the heat. That means stores are starting to stock items like air conditioners and fans. In addition, Costco stores are suddenly filled with tens, coolers, and outdoor toys for kids.

Let’s take a look at 23 of the best summer items at Costco. Many will be in their warehouses for just a short time, so if anything on this list looks like a purchase you’ll want to make, you better act soon!

Eastpoint Sports Axe Throw Set with Throwing Stars

Eastpoint Sports Axe Throw Set with Throwing Stars at Costco
  • Manufacturer: Eastpoint
  • Price: $59.99 ($10 Off Through May 12th)

Eastpoint’s new throw set is introducing axe throwing without the danger to back yards across America. The set has plastic axes and bristles they’ll stick into. Then once you’re done with summer axe throwing fun, the set easily folds up for storage.

Igloo 83 Quart Dual Zone Active Cooler (80 DZ)

Igloor D80 Cooler from Costco
  • Manufacturer: Igloo
  • Price at Warehouse: $699.99

The sales pitch for Igloor’s Dual Zone Active Cooler is pretty simple: it’s a cooler that doesn’t require ice! The price tag is obviously high at $699.99, but remember that this cooler is very advanced. It can plug into either an electrical outlet or a vehicle if you’re camping. In addition it comes with dual zones so you can keep one half freezing and the other half at temperatures more suited to storing drinks.

The Igloor Dual Zone Cooler retails for $999.99, putting Costco’s price at $300 below MSRP. It’s unlikely you’ll find a better deal on this very high-end cooler.

Blackstone 36 Inch Griddle

36 Inch Blackstone at Costco
  • Manufacturer: Blackstone
  • Price at Warehouse: $369.99

Like many other items at Costco, the price of Blackstone Griddles is cheaper in stores than what you’ll find online. The Blackstone 36 36-inch griddle lists for $469.99 on Costco’s site, but in stores I spotted them selling for $100 less.

Blackstones have become extremely popular as they offer a large amount of space for cooking on a griddle. If you want a Blackstone but don’t want to spend more than $300, Costco also has a 22-inch Blackstone that’s portable and retails for $159.99 (next slide).

Blackstone 22 Inch Griddle

Blackstone 22 Inch Griddle at Costco
  • Manufacturer: Blackstone
  • Price at Warehouse: $159.99

This is the cheaper Blackstone option and is built to be portable so it’s easy to take on adventures like camping for a long weekend. The griddle space is smaller, but it does feature two independent heat zones. This griddle sells for more than $190 when I recently checked on Amazon, so buying it at a Costco warehouse offers significant savings.

Bunch O Balloons – 490 Count

Bunch O Balloons Tropical Party 14 Pack at Costco
  • Manufacturer: Zuru
  • Price at Warehouse: $19.99 (On Sale Through May 12)

I had to add this item because we bought them for our kids last year and they loved it. You simply attach a group of balloons to a hose, turn on the water, and then pull them off and they’re ready to go! That means no individually filling and tying up dozens or hundreds of balloons.

If you’re concerned about plastic waste from balloons, Costco has also stocked reusable balloons from Zuru. They come in packs of 12 and sell for $19.99.

Swing Lounger Chair

Swing Lounger Chair with Eucalyptus Wood Costco
  • Manufacturer: Outdoor Interiors
  • Price at Warehouse: $79.99 (On Sale Through May 12)

Costco has a ton of outdoor furniture in most of their warehouses right now, and the Swing Lounger Chair might be one of the best deals available. First of all, through this weekend it’s on sale for $79.99 ($20 off). Second, if you search for the same chair on Amazon it’ll cost more than $190, meaning that Costco’s price is more than 50% off what you’ll find elsewhere.

If you’re looking for a comfortable chair that easily packs up for storage when the weather cools, you simply won’t beat this price.

Leisure Line Adirondack Chair

Leisure Line Adirondack Chair
  • Manufacturer: Lesuire Line
  • Price at Warehouse: $114.99 (On Sale Through May 12)

Costco originally had the price on Leisure Line’s Adirondack Chairs valid through May 5th, but it extended the sales price through this weekend. The chairs are going for $114.99, which for the quality is a great price. A quick search found chairs from the same manufacturer at Home Depot selling for $167 to $192 depending on the color.

Agio McKinnon 5-Piece Deep Seating Set with Fire Table

Agio - McKinnon 5-piece Fire Outdoor Seating Set at Costco
  • Manufacturer: Lesuire Line
  • Price at Warehouse: $2,799.99

This set is truly all you need for a great outdoor space. It comes with two loveseats and two glider chairs that are made out of all-weather wicker. Then, in addition, you get a fire table that can be used as a central table between the whole set. This item has a 4.8 ranking on Costco’s website, so buyers have been very pleased. Once again, its warehouse price is also cheaper at $2,799 versus an online price of $2,999.

Crocodile Cave Adventure Waterpark

Crocodile Cover Waterpark at Costco
  • Manufacturer: Happy Hop
  • Price at Warehouse: $379.99

You have to see this item to believe it! Last year Costco had a giant inflatable waterpark for kids, and they’ve done it again this year. The Crocodile Cave Adventure Waterpark has a giant waterslide where kids slide out of a crocodile’s mouth and also a climbing wall and water cannon. While the set is absolutely huge, it folds up to a much smaller size for off-season storage and also includes an air blower for fast inflation.

Aqua Luxury Pool Recliners (2 Pack)

Pool Recliners at Costco
  • Manufacturer: Aqua
  • Price at Warehouse: $39.99

A quick search of Amazon pulls up a pool lounger from Aqua selling for $45.59. Here’s what makes Costco’s deal outstanding: you get two of them for an even cheaper price.

Igloo IMX 70 Quart Cooler

Igloo IMX 70 Cooler at Costco
  • Manufacturer: Igloo
  • Price at Warehouse: $149.99

Coolers that are extremely well insulated have become a “must-own” item in recent years. Companies like Yeti will sell versions often costing $400 or more. That’s what makes the Igloo IMO such an outstanding deal, it’s a high-quality cooler that sells for just $149.99.

Once again, the price of this item in Costco warehouses is much cheaper than what you’ll find online. A quick search shows the same cooler for $172.99 at Target, $195 at Amazon, and $250 on Igloo’s site. If you need a cooler with great insulation this summer, you can’t beat this deal.

Cascade Mountain Pool Noodle

Cascade Mountain Pool Noodle at Costco
  • Manufacturer: Cascade Mountain
  • Price at Warehouse: $19.99

The pool noodles we’re all familiar with are cheap. They’re foam tubes that cost $10 or less and generally end up laying out in the sun by pools and get thrown away at the end of each season.

That’s what makes the Cascade Mountain Pool Noodle such a great purchase if you’re out in pools this summer, it’s actually very high quality! The noodles are far more durable (chlorine resistant with vinyl coating) and also better support floating. I picked up a couple for my family’s trips this summer.

Sea Serpent Sprinkler

H2 Go Sea Serpent Water Inflatable at Costco
  • Manufacturer: H2O Go
  • Price at Warehouse: $49.99

The Crocodile Cave Waterpark isn’t the only massive inflatable at Cosco this summer! Another option that’s also large and sure to entertain your kids is the Sea Serpent Sprinkler. This inflatable is much cheaper at $49.99. It has two separate sections that rise in the air and have sprinklers underneath. My crazy idea (that my wife didn’t love, but the kids did) was running two slip and slides underneath the Sea Serpent for an ultimate summer day.

Body Glove Inflatable Stand-Up Paddle Board

Body Glove Paddle Board
  • Manufacturer: Body Glove
  • Price at Warehouse: $399.99

The Body Glave Paddle Board is very large, but it’s actually quite portable. You can inflate and deflate it (electric pump included) so it can be easily stored in a backpack. This item is available for the same price as warehouses on Costco’s website, so ordering online is another option. It’s currently rated a 4.7 out of 5 from 42 reviews.

H2Go Family Lounge Pool

Costco Lounge Pool
  • Manufacturer: H2O Go
  • Price at Warehouse: $39.99

If you’re looking for an inflatable pool to escape the heat on summer days, the H20 Go Family Lounge Pool will get the job done. The pool carries up to 307 gallons and has a bench to sit in if you’re watching little kids. It should be noted that the item carries just a 3.5-star review on Costco’s website because of complaints about leaks and ease of use (emptying 300 gallons of water isn’t always simple!). So, if you’re looking for something more robust, you may want to pass on this item and instead look at Costco’s other above-ground pool options.

Tommy Habahama Rolling Patio Cooler

Tommy Bahama Stainless Steel Roling Patio Cooler at Costco
  • Manufacturer: Tommy Bahama
  • Price at Warehouse: $149.99 (On Sale Through May 12)

First off, I have to note that this cooler is on sale (saving you an impressive $50) through May 12th. The Tommy Bahama cooler is perfect if you’re entertaining this summer. It has 100 quarts of storage capacity and is an excellent way to store things like drinks in ice. In addition, it create another table top that you can leave food on or even use for some prep work as well.

Cascade Mountain Travel Hammock

Cascade Mountain Travel Hammock
  • Manufacturer: Cascade Mountain
  • Price at Warehouse: $14.99 (On Sale Through May 12)

I bought two of these hammocks for my kids and set them up in my backyard between trees. They replaced a prior hammock that was significantly more expensive. Another advantage of these hammocks is that they’re built to be portable. They fold up and can be stored in a travel bag if you want to take them camping. If you grab a travel hammock (or two) by close on Saturday, you’ll also save another $5.

Timber Ridge Zero Gravity Chair

Timber Ridge Zero Gravity Chair at Costco
  • Manufacturer: Timber Ridge
  • Price at Warehouse: $89.99

Let’s face it, most portable chairs aren’t very good. They’re built to be portable and are generally pretty cheaply made. The Timber Ridge Zero Gravity Chair is one of the nicest outdoor chairs you can find. The chair is portable, but it also comes with significant padding and sturdy construction. In addition, it can lay flat and has a large carrying capacity of 350 pounds.

If you’re looking for a chair that blends portability and comfort, this is a top purchase at Costco this summer.

42″ Boogie Board

Boogie Board at Costco
  • Manufacturer: Scott Burke
  • Price at Warehouse: $29.99

If you’re heading to a beach on the ocean, a boogie board is a must-have item. A quick search of Amazon shows Scott Burke 42″ Boogie Boards selling for $79.95 and $89.99. The bottom line is that this is a higher-quality boogie board than you’ll get if you buy one at a shop near the beach, and it’s at a price dramatically lower than Amazon sellers.

Kona Hammock Float

Big Joe Kona Hammock Float at Costco
  • Manufacturer: Big Joe
  • Price at Warehouse: $39.99

We featured pool loungers earlier, but the Big Joe Kona Hammock Float may be more your speed. First of all, no air is required. The Kona Hammock Floats have insulation so they’ll float without being pumped up. Second, the floats are quick-drying so if you want to pull them out of the pool before traveling they won’t be soaking for days.

Tobin Sports Wavebreak Kayak

Tobin Sports Wavebreak Inflatable 2-person Kayak
  • Manufacturer: Tobin Sports
  • Price at Warehouse: $169.99 (On Sale Through May 15)

The Tobin Sports Wavebreak 2-Person Kayak is large enough to support up to 440 pounds. You’ll get the kayak, a pair of oars, an Airhammer Hand Pump, and also a carrying bag. If you’ve been looking for a portable kayak, this price is extremely hard to beat. The price is also cheaper in warehouses than what you’ll find listed on Costco’s website.

Nighthawk Towable Tube

Costco Nighthawk Tube
  • Manufacturer: HO Sports
  • Price at Warehouse: $199.99

If you own a boat, this is a must-own item. The Nighthawk 3 Towable is a tube that has carrying room for 3 riders. It includes an electric pump, so you can deflate it and store it when not in use.

Bond Steel Patina Gas Fire Pit

Gas Fire Pit at Costco
  • Manufacturer: Bond Steel
  • Price at Warehouse: $249.99 (On Sale Through May 13)

Fire pits make outdoor spaces come to life. The Bond Teel Gas Fire Pit has an attractive design and a 4.7-star rating on Costco’s website. Most importantly, the savings are outstanding when buying one of these in Costco’s warehouses. I spotted these fire pits selling for $249.99, which is significantly cheaper than the $349.99 price listed on Costco’s online store.

We’ve all been there. You’re heading toward the checkouts at Costco when something sweet and delicious-looking catches your eye from the candy aisle. All too many times I haven’t had the willpower to simply check out, and have ended up trying most of the treats Costco stocks.

A few of these treats are actually pretty healthy. Most need to be eaten in moderation. But there’s no denying the candy aisle (next to its neighbor stocking other goodies like beef jerky!) has some delicious options. Let’s look at 9 of the best treats that are worth trying the next time you’re at Costco.

Kirkland Signature S’Mores Clusters

Kirkland Signature Caramel S'Mores Clusters at Costco
  • Price: $9.49
  • Weight: 1.64 pounds (26.3 oz)

The Caramel S’Mores Clusters are without a doubt one of the best Kirkland Signature products. I’m not even a huge fan of s’mores, but they’re delicious.

That being said, if you have a family, once a bag is open everyone is going to be snacking on these.

The bars advertise themselves as guilt-free, which you can make your own decision on. Each bar has 180 calories and 13 grams of carbohydrates. The most important number is just 6 grams of added sugar. There’s also an emphasis on “clean” ingredients that are more limited than you’ll see from other chocolate bars.

Personally, I enjoy peanut butter snacks, so these are a no-brainer purchase for me. I eat them at times I want something sweet, but don’t want to ingest a ton of sugar.

Just don’t expect to bite into one and feel like you’re eating a candy bar. With their lower sugar content, Jojo’s bars are less sweet

Girl Scout Thin Mint Bites

Thin Mint Bites at Costco
  • Price: $11.99
  • Weight: 1.25 pounds (20 oz)

Like many Americans, I live in fear of the day my daughter brings home Girl Scout cookies. I know the house will soon be filled with Tagalongs, Samoas, and all the other treats that are almost impossible not to grab when each day.

So, it’s doubly tempting for me now that Costco is selling bite-sized Thin Mints.

There’s seed & nut flour blend, organic coconut sugar, tapioca starch, arrowroot, cocoa butter, Dutch cocoa powder, and cocoa extract. Simply put, there’s nothing artificial in these cookies. They’re a treat I like keeping around to give my kids.

Kirkland Signature Chocolate Almonds

Kirkland Signature Chocolate Covered Almonds
  • Price: $14.79
  • Weight: 3 pounds (48 oz)

If you’ve been shopping at Costco for a long time you get to know the iconic Kirkland Signature products. Their selection of packaged nuts is a fan-favorite, and there’s also nuts that have been covered in chocolate.

There’s not a lot to say about Costco’s Chocolate Almonds aside from the fact they’re a tremendous value. A large 3-pound package costs just $14.79 at my local Costco. I don’t buy this item a ton because a large jar of chocolate-covered almonds is a diet’s worst nightmare, but they are an excellent item to buy before the holidays when family is over.

If you find this item at your local Costco and enjoy bubble tea, its worth picking up. They’re kind of a fun treat from time to time for my kids.

Calories and Fat in Each Slice https://www.momswhothink.com/how-healthy-is-costcos-pumpkin-pie-calories-and-fat-in-each-slice/ https://www.momswhothink.com/how-healthy-is-costcos-pumpkin-pie-calories-and-fat-in-each-slice/#respond Fri, 22 Dec 2023 19:04:27 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/how-healthy-is-costcos-pumpkin-pie-calories-and-fat-in-each-slice/ The post How Healthy is Costco’s Pumpkin Pie? Calories and Fat in Each Slice appeared first on Moms Who Think.

Nothing beats a delicious dessert full of spices and flavor during the holidays, much like Costco's signature Kirkland pumpkin pie. This pie has been a favorite for years. In fact, it first hit the shelves in the 1980s, and its recipe has remained relatively the same throughout the decades. It brings comfort, spice, and everything in between. However, one question is on many people's minds: Is Costco's pumpkin pie healthy? This article will explore this question, the ingredients in this pie, and more.

Costco's pumpkin pie has many qualities going for it. Its crust is flaky, soft, and relatively fragile. The filling is spicy but not too spicy. It contains just the right amount of flavor. This famous pie is well-loved and flies off the shelves right through the fall and winter months, which is not surprising given its price of $5.99 for a pie of its size!

Is Costco's Pumpkin Pie Healthy?

The answer to this question is no, Costco's pumpkin pie is not healthy. Delicious? Yes. Healthy? No. Kirkland's signature pie is quite large for your typical store-bought pumpkin pie. It is slightly over 3.5 pounds and contains approximately 323 calories per slice. Let's break down the nutrients in each slice of Costco's popular pumpkin pie.

One slice of pumpkin pie is approximately 133 grams.

Based on the pie being roughly 58 ounces and 12 inches in diameter, the approximate amount of calories for the entire pie amounts to 3,992.

Calories323
Total Fat13g
Saturated Fat2.6g
Polyunsaturated Fat2.4g
Monounsaturated Fat6.1g

Total Carbohydrates46g
Dietary Fiber2.4g
Sugars25g
Protein5.2g
Vitamin D0.1mcg
Calcium85mg
Iron1.2mg
Potassium222.1mg

As you can see, Costco's pumpkin pie is high in calories, sodium, and cholesterol. On the other hand, each slice does contain calcium, iron, and potassium. However, the good doesn't exactly outweigh the bad in this case. While the pie is delicious, it isn't exactly nutritious.

Thanksgiving Dessert Recipes
The holidays are not the same without the tasty and classic pumpkin pie dessert.

What are the Ingredients in Costco's Pumpkin Pie?

When taking a look at the ingredients in the pumpkin pie, they aren't too complex. They include the following:

  • Pumpkin
  • Sugar
  • Water
  • Eggs
  • Enriched Flour (Wheat flour, niacin, iron, thiamine, mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid)
  • Shortening (soybean oil, mono- & diglycerides, TBHQ, citric acid)
  • Nonfat milk

The pie also contains two percent or less of the following ingredients:

  • Spices
  • Corn syrup solids
  • Modified corn starch
  • Salt
  • Canola & or soybean oil
  • Dextrose

There are a few ingredients to be aware of for customers who have allergies. Costco's pumpkin pie contains eggs, milk, and wheat. In addition, the label states that the product is made around equipment that produces tree nuts, dairy, season, and peanuts. Therefore, those who have food allergies need to read the ingredients carefully.

Tips For Serving Costco's Pumpkin Pie

Costco shoppers know what a deal you can find with this pumpkin pie. Yet, with a pie as big as this one (12 inches!), it can be a good idea to stock up on some helpful tips. These can especially come in handy after you run out and purchase your next Costco pumpkin pie. Here are some helpful tips to keep in mind:

  • Yes, you can freeze Costco's pumpkin pie. In fact, with this thing's size, it is highly encouraged so that you can enjoy the deliciousness for as long as possible. Wrap the pumpkin pie in one to two plastic wrap layers and once in aluminum foil. The pie will be good for one month in the freezer.
  • Freezing the pie in individual slices will allow you to pull out one piece at a time without having to dethaw the whole pie.
  • The pumpkin pie can be stored in the refrigerator for three to four days.
  • Chill Costco's pumpkin pie before serving. The filling is a tad watery. Therefore, cutting the perfect slice can be challenging when warm.

One Last Note

Going back to the previous question, is Costco's pumpkin pie healthy? It is safe to say no, not exactly. It is a sweet and delicious treat that many people rave about around the holidays. However, it is not exactly screaming nutritious for our health. Of course, this is to be expected from a holiday dessert. So, don't worry about eating Costco's pumpkin pie for health. Instead, enjoy it in moderation, like dessert should be eaten.

While Costco's pumpkin pie isn't exactly healthy, it is tasty with a hint of spice and perfect for bargain shoppers. After all, it is hard to beat $5.99 for a holiday dessert this size!

When the leaves change from green to gorgeous oranges and reds, the weather drops 15 to 20 degrees, and everyone starts adorning their sock caps and light jackets; you can count on one thing: Costco's pumpkin pie is back. Kirkland's signature pumpkin pie has been around since the 1980s with its beautiful crust and unbeatable price. Customers go crazy for this sweet treat every year; around September 1, the pie starts hitting the shelves. People have many questions about Costco's famous pumpkin pie, but you can read all about what makes it unique here. When purchasing it, one frequent question is, can you freeze Costco's pumpkin pie? We will explore this question and more in this article.

Can You Freeze Costco's Pumpkin Pie?

Let's get right down to it; yes, you can freeze Costco's signature Kirkland pumpkin pie. One can hear a collective sigh of relief worldwide. This is because one common theme when someone purchases this pie is not being able to eat it all in one sitting! It is that big! Costco's pie is a little over 3.5 pounds and costs $5.99. So, being able to freeze it in all its glory and deliciousness is a significant reassurance.

How to Freeze Costco's Pumpkin Pie

The method to freeze Costco's pumpkin pie is the same method to freeze any pumpkin pie. Whether you are freezing the pie whole or in individual pieces, the steps remain the same:

  1. Be sure that the pie completely cools off. Then, wrap the pumpkin pie in two or three layers of plastic wrap.
  2. Wrap the pie yet again in aluminum foil. Many customers recommend freezing the pie right away for the best results.
  3. The pumpkin pie can stay in the freezer for up to a month for the best quality.
Pumpkin Cheesecake Recipe, Cheesecake, Pumpkin, Celebration, Cinnamon, Close-up
Pumpkin pie is a delicious holiday treat, but sometimes the one from Costco is simply too big! Freezing it is an ideal way to savor the delicious pie.

How Long Does The Pie Last in the Refrigerator?

If you plan on bringing Costco's pumpkin pie to a holiday gathering and prefer not to freeze it, it keeps in the refrigerator for three to four days. The freshness and quality of the pie will last this long in the refrigerator if the temperature is below 40 degrees Fahrenheit and within the sell-by-date.

According to the USDA, pies that are egg-rich or contain custard must be refrigerated after cooking and cooling. This is because bacteria harmful to our health can start forming within the pies if left out too long.

Can Costco's Pumpkin Pie Sit Out on the Counter?

Food storage can be confusing; using this guide to determine how long certain foods can sit out at room temperature will be helpful. According to the FDA, pumpkin pie can sit safely on the counter for up to two hours. After two hours, it should be stored safely in the refrigerator or freezer.

In Conclusion

If you are a fan of the spicy and flavorful pumpkin pie that Costco has made popular, don't hesitate to run out and grab one for yourself! You can rest easy knowing if you don't eat it all, the freezer is right there, allowing you to savor everything delicious about this pumpkin pie!

Pumpkin Cheesecake Recipe

The Costco Pumpkin pie is a staple dessert in many homes over the holiday season. Not only is it beautifully glazed, and the perfect shade of orange. It also has the loveliest crumbly crust and plenty of surface area. You can’t really beat the price of $5.99 for a whopping 12 inches. The Costco Pumpkin Pie has been around since the late 1980s. It is one of the three major discounted product deals that Costco has seemingly always had. You’ve got your $4.99 rotisserie chicken and our $1.50 Costco Hot Dog. There's a $9.95 full-sized pizza and the $5.99 Costco Pumpkin Pie. What makes the Costco Pumpkin Pie so delicious? Read on to learn the secrets of the infamous, and highly in-demand Costco Pumpkin Pie.

In this post, we’ll talk about the major secrets that set the Costco Pumpkin Pie apart from all the rest. You’ll learn about the ingredients, and how to get the most out of your 12-inch pie. But before we go any further in explanations, let’s get to the point. What are the secrets that make the Costco Pumpkin Pie so delicious?

There are three things, really. First, the recipe hasn’t changed since 1987 when the pies first appeared in stores. Second, they use the same pre-mixed crust ingredients and a purée of a particular type of pumpkin to make that sweet orange filling. And lastly, while this one isn’t really a secret, you can’t beat this price for a pie of this size. It weighs nearly 4 pounds. And every bite of those 4 pounds is sure to be worth every cent of the $5.99 price tag for 12 inches of pie.

The History of Costco and the First Pumpkin Pies

Costco was first a warehouse store that opened in the late 1970s. It functioned out of an old airplane hangar in San Diego, predominantly stocking wholesale merchandise from small businesses. Eventually, it switched to a membership model. Loyal customers would buy a certain membership to shop at the store for great discounts. Costco opened a warehouse in Seattle, Washington in 1983, and, according to an excerpt from an edition of “Costco Connection,” the pumpkin pie recipe that remains in use today, was first introduced in '87. So, the Costco Pumpkin Pie is almost as old as Costco itself (via Parade).

What Are Costco Pumpkin Pies Made Of?

We've covered the first thing to know about the Costco Pumpkin Pie, which is that the recipe has been around, and virtually unchanged since around 1987. As for how the company can sell these beautiful pies for a mere $5.99, it all comes down to how much can be made in-house. Costco uses pre-mixed dry ingredients to create the dough for the crust in-house. And, the gooey, sweet orange filling is made from a type of pumpkin called a Dickinson Pumpkin. Costco uses canned filling, which cuts down on the time it takes to make any one pie, but not just any pumpkin will do. They use a type called a Dickinson pumpkin. As for that perfectly glazed top, a recent social media post went viral when a user who identified themselves as a Costco employee shared that it's a thin layer of apricot jelly! (via Allrecipes).

Dickinson pumpkins can be quite oblong in shape, and have a sweet, meaty interior that's great for pies.

Perhaps you're wondering what a Dickinson Pumpkin is. It's a type of winter squash that is the star of the pie industry. According to the Bucktown Seed Company, this light orange, very smooth type of pumpkin has been a part of the United State's agricultural scene since around 1835. The earliest seeds were brought to Eureka, Illinois by a man named Elijah Dickinson. They're so popular because they grow quite large, and their orange flesh is already quite sweet. This makes them ideal for pie filling, and some of the most common brands of filling are made from this kind of pumpkin. Dickinson pumpkins can grow up to 18 inches long by 14 inches wide. They can weigh as much as 40 pounds!

How Many Pies Does Costco Sell?

According to an excerpt from Allrecipes, there are some 6 million Costco Pumpkin Pies sold every year around the holidays. A book that was written specifically about Costco breaks down the fact that 2 million of those pies are sold in mere days before the Thursday of Thanksgiving. Reader's Digest notes that these pies can actually be frozen and simply defrosted or reheated before serving. That means, if you happen to be shopping at Costco well before the holiday season hits full force, simply clear a foot of space in your freezer. Then, you can pull out this pie right before prepping your turkey. Either way, the pie should be refrigerated, as it does contain egg, and the refrigeration will help it to remain fresh and edible.

When Can You Find This Pie In Stores?

According to The Daily Meal, most Costco warehouses release this delicious pie to its rightful place on the shelves around September 1st. That means there are around 3 months of the holiday shopping season where you can snag the delicious Costco Pumpkin Pie. Keep in mind the freezer idea. Or, maybe you just want to enjoy more than one pie during this holiday season. Either option is fully understood.

Can You Make It At Home?

Costco has yet to come out with a recipe book for its discount deals. However, there are some copycat recipes out there. If you want to simply bake the Costco version of the filling, you're in luck. You can buy cans of the Costco pie filling in stores. Apparently, alongside those 6 million pumpkin pies, Costco also sells about 1.2 million cans of pumpkin pie filling during the holiday season. Keep in mind that depending on your ingredients, it may be cheaper to just go get a pie from Costco than to recreate it at home. But, for those DIYers out there, this one's for you.

Costco Pumpkin Pie Copy Cat Recipe

This recipe from the Better Baker Club describes how to make your own filling with a Dickinson pumpkin purée. You can also purchase one of the more popular pumpkin pie fillings. Libby's Pumpkin purée happens to be made from Dickinson pumpkins and has a similar consistency to the Costco pie.

You'll need pumpkin spice, which you can either buy or make with ground cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice. You'll also need heavy cream, eggs, brown sugar, and some salt. For the crust, you can either make one from scratch or buy a pre-baked pie crust at the store.

Get your deep dish pie plate ready. Be sure to modify the ingredient amounts to the size of the pie you are baking. Does anyone own a 12-inch pie dish? To start, preheat your oven to 325º Fahrenheit. In a mixing bowl, combine pumpkin purée, heavy cream, eggs, two egg yolks, pumpkin pie spice, salt, and brown sugar. Whisk until blended and creamy and pour into your pre-baked pie crust. Bake in the oven for 90 minutes, watching for the edges of the filling to set. The center should be slightly jello-y but firm. Allow the pie to cool before serving, and enjoy your homemade Costco-copy pumpkin pie.

There are all kinds of variations on the classic pumpkin pie. If you're not buying one from Costco, why not try and make your own?

Check out these other recipes for variations on the classic pumpkin pie as well as a recipe card for one of our favorites. They may not produce exactly the consistency of the Costco Pumpkin Pie, but they're delicious nonetheless.

Calories, Fat, and More appeared first on Moms Who Think.

The Costco hotdog is a staple of the membership-based super-sized wholesale store. For just $1.50 you can get a signature Costco Kirkland hotdog. This comes with free condiments (mustard, ketchup, relish), and a 20-ounce, refillable soda. But just how healthy is Costco’s delicious $1.50 hot dog? This deal has been around since the 1980s. This was around when the super-retailer started to offer convenient fast food alongside their bulk and wholesale shopping deals. Other famously cheap items from Costco include their $4.99 rotisserie chicken, and and an 18” whole pizza for $9.95. We'll get into the calories, fat content, and other ingredients to be aware of when consuming the Costco hot dog. But first, let’s learn about how the Costco hot dog came to be.

We'll start with a bit of the history of Costco. Stick around to learn about how this great deal manages to stay so cheap. After, all, wouldn’t rising inflation affect the price of a $1.50 hotdog? Other places are easily charging upwards of $5 for a similar hot dog and drink combo. And, don’t even get us started on ballpark hotdog prices. We’ll do our best to answer just how healthy is Costco’s delicious $1.50 hot dog and provide any other useful information about this longstanding deal at Costco. Read on to learn more about your favorite Costco snacks, specifically their delicious $1.50 hot dog.

The History of Costco

Costco began in the late 1970s in a converted airplane hangar in San Diego, California. Originally called Price Club, the retailer stocked small business merchandise but quickly started offering a membership shopping model. This would become known as the “warehouse club,” industry.

They opened the first Costco Wholesale warehouse in Seattle, Washington in 1983, and the Costco influence only grew from there. The membership model was really expanded upon in their San Diego location where members of the new Costco warehouses would get incredible deals on wholesale items all for the added price of a membership. Costco Wholesale and Price Club officially merged in 1993, monopolizing the reach of the warehouse club membership model (via Costco).

Modern Costco has hundreds of stores in the U.S. and a number of abroad locations as well. It prides itself on carrying selective bulk, stocking for quality, low-price, and the best options for its members. The food court and convenient, low-priced snack options are an added incentive for shopping at Costco for both members and non-members of the mega-wholesaler. One of these snacks is Costco's delicious $1.50 hot dog!

The Production of the $1.50 Hot Dog Deal

The first $1.50 Costco dogs were made by the brand Hebrew National and sold out of stand just outside of its Portland, Oregon warehouse location. This was in 1983, so early in the Price Club/Costco Wholesale days. Building out ancillary businesses, like their gas stations and cheap snack offerings sets Costco apart from other retailers, which keeps members coming back. They can keep things cheap with the use of affordable buns, and using refillable soda cups instead of more costly cans (via CNN).

At some point along the road, Costco switched from Hebrew National to Kosher brand hotdogs, but in 2009, they decided to start making their iconic hotdogs in-house. Costco opened its hot dog factory in Tracy, California in 2011, they also have a facility in Illinois. Between the two they produce some 300 million hot dogs that go to Costco locations for sale in their food court, or into the bulk section for customer purchase (via New York Post).

Health Profile Breakdown

So, how healthy is Cotsco's delicious $1.50 hot dog? The bottom line is that hotdogs are processed meat, and there are definitely more nutritious ways to get protein and fiber.

According to Nutritionix, one 120-gram serving of a Costco Kirkland hot dog clocks in at around 316 calories. It contains around 16 grams of fat, 6 grams of saturated fat, and 6.7 grams of monounsaturated fat. One of these hotdogs contains around 28 milligrams of cholesterol and 871 milligrams of sodium. It has 31 grams of carbohydrates, 1.4 grams of dietary fiber, 6.6 grams of sugar, and 11 grams of protein. Vitamin and mineral-wise, you'll get some vitamin D, calcium, iron, and potassium from the meat aspect of the hotdog/bun combo.

For reference, an average female needs around 2,000 calories per day. An average male needs around 2,500. This is impacted by an individual's body mass index, lifestyle, and other genetic and environmental factors. This breaks down to around 50 grams of protein, 70 grams of fat, and 310 grams of carbohydrates. A standard diet should include around 90 grams of sugar, 2.3 grams of sodium (2300 milligrams), and 30 grams of dietary fiber (via My Daily Intake). So, the Costco hotdog does score high in a few of those categories (sodium, saturated fat, etc.) in terms of daily intake.

Healthline notes that hotdogs are processed meat, and they can carry a lot of calories with just a single dog/bun/condiment combo. Like anything, enjoying red meats, and salty snacks in moderation seems to be the best approach, and be sure to pad out your diet with lots of healthy, recommended whole foods.

How Can It Stay $1.50?

So, now that we have a better idea of the health profile of Costco's delicious $1.50 hot dog, are you still wondering how this deal still exists? Something from the 1980s that costs the same today is practically unheard of. It all comes down to the membership program.

Costco offers loyal customers low prices on high-quality merchandise, alongside the promise of cheap and yummy food on their way out of a long shopping day. Costco can keep the price of hotdogs low because they do so well in many other areas of their business. Not to mention that Costco has an optical and hearing aid department, in-store pharmacies, and car rental services, all of which boost their bottom line immensely.

The base price of a Costco membership is $60/annually. But, there's also the option for a $120 membership option, which comes with different perks. So consider the sheer amount of Costco members, shopping wholesale prices, buying gas, reupping their glasses prescription, etc. Between all these options, keeping a $1.50 hot dog deal for customers to indulge in as they leave a day of successful shopping is one of the easiest perks that Costco can keep around.

Warehouse storage of retail merchandise shop. Trolley Shopping Cart Between Dry Grocery Shelf Section in Supermarket Warehouse Retail Outlet as Shopping Concept.
The wholesale options available at Costco, alongside their other services, really set this retailer apart.

In Summary: How Healthy Is Costco's Delicious $1.50 Hot Dog?

Now you understand the history of Costco's delicious $1.50 hot dog. After the health profile breakdown (a few sections above,) it's easy to see that the Costco hotdog is a great deal. And while it's a great deal, it's also one that should be purchased and enjoyed in moderation.

Hotdogs are not the most nutritious choice, especially when you have other options as sources of protein and dietary fiber with fewer downsides. Eating processed meat can be linked to higher rates of disease, including heart problems. So, while you're shopping at Costco, don't deny yourself a great deal on a tasty hot dog. But maybe just one, and maybe don't buy one every time you shop.

Why not some of their healthier menu options instead? According to CNN, in recent years Costco introduced items like acai fruit bowls, vegan salads, and even organic burger options to their food court. And while these are definitely more expensive than the $1.50 hot dog, you've got some options, healthy or otherwise when you finish shopping at Costco and head to the food court.

Do you love ice cream more than other people, but you find it hard to pay the $8+ for a pint of the mainstream brands at the store? If so, you may want to learn to make your own ice cream at home using the Ninja CREAMi Ice Cream Maker that was made famous by Costco and current TikTok stars.

This is a revolutionary device that allows you to make incredible ice cream, shakes, smoothies, gelato, and more using frozen fruit and other ingredients you already have in your freezer. It’s pretty revolutionary, but do you need to have one in your own kitchen? Let's look at the ins and outs of this device so you can make the best decision for yourself.

The standard Ninja CREAMi Ice Cream Maker is a device that allows you to make seven tasty frozen treats with a few buttons and a little bit of time. With it, you can make sorbet, ice cream, milkshakes, gelato, lite ice cream, smoothie bowls, and mix-in treats.

The traditional method of making ice cream requires you to mix your own ingredients, cook the milk, cream, and sugar until it dissolves, pour a mixture into an old school ice cream maker, churn it, and then try it and hope for the best. The Ninja CREAMi does that all for you. Granted, you do have to do a few minutes of leg work on your own, but it’s a snap compared to the methods of the old days.

When you buy the device, you get the motor base (the primary machine), a creamerizer (the paddles that churn the mixture), two 16-oz pint containers (more on that later), and an outer bowl and lid. The current price for the Creami is $199, but you can often find it for as low as $169 on sale.

How Does the Ninja CREAMi Ice Cream Maker Work?

A major selling point of this device is how easy it is to use. In essence, there’s a simple three-step process. This includes (1) prepping your solid base, (2) freezing it overnight in one of the pint containers, and (3) processing the mixture in the device until it makes delicious ice cream.

Most of the legwork is involved in the first step. You know the flavor of ice cream that you like the most, so find those ingredients and put them into one of the 16-oz pint containers. We will show you some awesome recipes below, but let’s say you like peanut butter and banana ice cream. You could use peanut butter, whole milk, heavy cream, vanilla, banana, and maple syrup. Take all of that and blend it all together first to make a smooth consistency. Then, you pour the mixture into one of the pint containers. Finally, put it in your freezer and let it sit there for 24 hours with the lid on top.

Once 24 hours have passed, remove it from the freezer and take off the lid. Place it into the CREAMi machine and press the ice cream button or the milkshake button, or one of the other five options. Within minutes, your treat will be ready, and you and your family can enjoy it together.

What Reviewers Say About the Ninja CREAMi Ice Cream Maker

This may sound like the dream machine, but does it really live up to the hype? Customer reviews on websites like Temecula Blogs say things like “it’s a great appliance,” and that “it’s fabulous and the ice creams are great and delicious.”

Head over to Amazon, and you’ll hear raving reviews. There are currently 3,362 reviews, and 77% of them are 5-star reviews. Read through the reviews, and you’ll see comments like…

“Finally I can have ice cream as I like it!”

“Best ice cream maker.”

“Best purchase of the year.”

“Such a fun kitchen appliance.”

“Sooooo good.”

The experts are also very excited about the Ninja CREAMi ice cream maker. The Food Network reviewed the machine and said that the “smoothie bowls were the standout.” On the website Epicurious, they said that the machine works so well in some cases that they wondered why the ice creams in stores didn’t taste better.

Over at The New York Times, they said that the machine makes “pretty good ice cream,” and that each pint of the ice cream came out “smooth and mostly iceless.” Finally, at CNET, the reviewer said that he had a high standard when it comes to ice cream and that he was impressed by some of the recipes.

Of course, everyone is different, so if you love ice cream, you may consider shelling out the money to get one in your kitchen.

Tips for Using the Ninja CREAMi Ice Cream Maker

If you are going to invest in this machine, you will probably want to know a bit about the best methods for using it so you can achieve delicious success. Here are a few tips to consider once you get it in your kitchen.

Don’t try to rush the process – You may be excited to enjoy your ice cream, but don’t try to skip the 24-hour freezing period, or your ice cream won’t turn out well. Some say that you only have to wait 12 hours, but don’t try to rush the process, or it won’t be worth it.

Own a blender – Don’t just put your ingredients in the pint container and throw it in the freezer. Instead, for the best consistency, spend a few minutes and blend all of the ingredients together as smoothly as possible.

Put the pint on a level surface – Once you fill your pint container with your blended mix, be sure to put it on a level surface in your freezer. There’s even a line on the pint that says where it should be filled to. If you don’t put it on an even surface, then it will freeze on an uneven level and it won’t process correctly in the CREAMi.

Have fun – This machine is great for experimenting. The reason to buy the CREAMi is because it can turn almost any combination of ingredients into ice cream. Go crazy. Add bananas, yogurt, cherries, apples, or anything that you like, try to blend it and turn it into a fantastic new ice cream flavor.

Clean it properly – After every use, clean out the machine. It may take a few minutes, but it’s worth it if you want the device to work properly time after time. Clean the lid, the straw cleaners, and the blade to ensure that your machine lasts for years to come.

Like many items at Costco, Bachan's Original Japanese Barbecue Sauce can look intimidating on the shelf. After all, it is a massive 34-ounce bottle and you may be unsure of where to use it.

I recently “took the plunge” and have been surprised by how often I'm using this wonderful sauce in my cooking. Let's dive into what Costco's Japanese Barbecue Sauce is and whether you should grab a bottle on your next trip to a warehouse.

The Background on Bachan's Original Japanese Barbecue Sauce

Bachan's with Chicken Cutlet
Bachan's can be used with a variety of different foods
  • Price: $9.99
  • Package Size: 34 ounces
  • Ingredients: Mirin (Japanese rice wine), soy sauce, organic ginger, organic garlic, green onion
  • Production: Non-GMO Certified and made in small batches
  • Flavor: Close to teriyaki sauce, but less sweet with a complex flavor blending ginger, garlic, and green onion in addition to soy sauce
  • Calories: 35 per tablespoon (51 servings per container)

The word bachan means ‘granny' in Japanese. The company was founded by Justin Gill in 2019 as he tried to capture the delicious homemade sauces his grandmother makes.

To say Bachan has been a success would be an understatement. Aside from becoming a cult favorite product at Costco, Bachan's line of sauces has earned fanatical reviews across the Internet. Today, the company makes five different sauces:

  • Original (Which Costco carries)
  • Miso
  • Hot and Spicy
  • Yuzu
  • Gluten-Free

If you'd like to add some spice to the Original flavor sold at Costco, I have some ideas later in this article.

What Can You Put Bachan's Sauce On?

The short answer is that you can put Bachan's sauce on just about everything. It's surprisingly versatile and I've found myself using it on a variety of dishes.

One quick dish I've been making for my family is simply making breaded chicken cutlets (you can buy it pre-prepared at most grocery stores if you're looking to save time) and quick rice or pasta, and then covering it with Bachan's Original Barbecue Sauce.

Bachan's on Chicken Cutlet
Bachan's is particularly delicious on chicken

The flavor of Bachan's goes particularly well with chicken. As I noted above, it's complex. It's not quite barbecue (too sweet), but it also packs a lot more flavor than something like soy sauce. I grew up in Seattle enjoying the city's Teriyaki sauces and they're probably the closest comparison to the flavors of Bachan's Original Barbecue Sauce.

Another great use for Bachan's sauce is using it as a marinade. I used Bachan's as a marinade overnight with flank steak and the results came out excellent. I've found that teriyaki sauces in general are excellent marinades for flank steaks, but after trying Bachan's I'll be using it as my main marinade in the future.

Description

Flank steak is excellent when marinated. Japanese marinades like teriyaki are excellent as they add sweetness and complex flavors. If you're looking to save time, simply using Bachan's Original Barbecue Sauce creates an excellent flavor while also tenderizing this cut of steak.

Ingredients

  • 1 Flank Steak
  • Bachan's Original BBQ Sauce
  • Salt and Pepper or comparable seasoning

Instructions

  1. Add Bachan's to your flank steak in either a large plastic bag or container and allow it to rest with the meat for at least 4 hours. Letting the Bachan's settle for at least 12 hours is preferable as it will create more tender meat.
  2. Cook the flank steak on a grill. I cooked mine at around 400 degrees, but techniques may change depending on the thickness of your flank steak.
  3. Take the steak off the grill when its center is either 130 degrees (low end of medium rare) or 135 degrees (upper end).
  4. Let the steak rest for about 10 minutes preferably covered in a foil. During this time it will warm another 5 degrees, taking it either to the higher end of medium rare or medium, depending on your preference.
  5. Slice your flank steak on a carving board. Make sure to cut against the grain (perpendicular to the grain pattern). This will make the meat significantly more tender and easy to chew.
  • Prep Time: 4 Hours
  • Cook Time: 20 to 30 minutes
  • Method: Grilling

Some Recipe Ideas for Bachan's Japanese Barbecue Sauce

Finally, if you take the plunge to try Bachan's Original Barbecue from Costco but wish you could try flavors that aren't just their original version, you do have some options.

Many people online have been posting their modifications. For example, you can put Bachan's in a cup and add a tablespoon of garlic chili sauce to make it spicier.

Another great resource is the recipe page on Bachan's website. A few ideas that jumped out to me as easy places to use Bachan's sauce included:

Hopefully that last recipe shows the versatility of this sauce. While it is a bit thin (and might be the wrong flavor) to slather on a bratwust, using it to improve the flavor of caramelized onions is absolutely genius and is something I'll be trying at a Fall cookout.

Costco's Holiday Savings Guide starts in three phases. The first phase is October 30 to November 12 and features several household items.

Some of the best deals include:

  • Tramontina 2-Piece Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Ovens: Normally selling for $60 in store and on-sale for $45. They're presently sold out online, so you will want to check if they're in stock at your local store.
  • Ninja Foodi 7-in-1 Flex Basket Air Fyer: Normally priced at $150 but on sale for $120. If you somehow don't have an air fryer in your house, this is an excellent deal to get started cooking with them.

Starting November 13th Excellent High-Protein Products Go on Sale

Costco Items on Sale
All three products are on sale from November 13 to November 27

Costco has more Holiday Savings on food from November 13-27. Specifically, there are some great high-protein options if you're looking to cut back on carbs before the holidays (gotta fit into those holiday sweaters).

  1. Amylu Cranberry & Jalapeno Chicken Meatballs: I'm a huge fan of Amylu's products. Whether their Nashville Hot Chicken Patties, or Chicken Teriyaki Meatballs, all the products I've had from Amylu are high-quality. So, it would make sense that Costco would put their Cranberry & Jalapeno Meatballs on sale before Thanksgiving. They're an excellent option to serve at a Thanksgiving brunch. The meatballs come in a 46-ounce package and are $4 off.
  2. Fratelli Beretta Antichi Salami Chubs: Another perfect item before the holidays. If you're hosting any guests during the holidays these salamis cut up well and are delicious when served with crackers and cheese. They're $3.50 off with a limit of 5 per customer.
  3. Citterio 18-Month-Aged Prosciutto di Parma: Prosciutto is another product that's excellent on charcuterie boards around the holidays. You can pick up some high-quality prosciutto on the cheap at Costco before Thanksgiving. This prosciutto is packaged in two six-ounce containers and is $3 off.

Happy shopping this holiday season!

Is Costco’s Canned Cold Brew a Total Dud? (Full Review) https://www.momswhothink.com/is-costcos-canned-cold-brew-a-total-dud-full-review/ https://www.momswhothink.com/is-costcos-canned-cold-brew-a-total-dud-full-review/#respond Mon, 23 Oct 2023 12:39:50 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=196019&preview=true&preview_id=196019 The post Is Costco’s Canned Cold Brew a Total Dud? (Full Review) appeared first on Moms Who Think.

Costco sells cans of cold brew under its Kirkland Signature, and like many items at Costco, the price is irresistible. Cases of 12 normally sell for $18.99, but I've picked them up on sale for $14.99. That's quite a bit cheaper than other canned cold brew options.

And yet, there's a good chance you'll absolutely hate this cold brew. Let's dive into why Costco's Columbian Cold Brew Coffee is so divisive and whether you'd actually enjoy the flavor.

Why Kirkland Signature Cold Brew is So Divisive

Roasted coffee beans in burlap. Rustic vintage concept
Both the origin and preparation of coffee beans can lead to significant flavor differences

If you've ever tried single-origin coffees from across the world, you've seen just how different coffee can taste. Coffee beans from some environments like Yemen are famous for being rich and chocolatey, while other countries like Congo are generally more acidic.

When ordering single-origin coffee, I've often found myself looking for coffee from Sumatra, for example. It's a creamier coffee that's low on acidity.

The preparation of coffee is also important in determining its flavor. Cold brew coffee utilizes a longer brewing time that reduces acidity. In fact, scientific studies have found cold brew coffee has about 70% lower acid levels compared to hot coffee.

This is all just to say that people who drink cold brew generally drink it because they enjoy the lower acidity in it. This is why Kirkland Signature Cold Brew is so divisive. Simply put, it has a much more acidic flavor than other cold brews on the market.

Another factor I've found in my tastings is beyond acidity, the flavor is just extremely unique. I don't know if “smoky” is the right word, but the flavor is fairly intense. Let's just leave it as being quite bold.

Now, it's worth noting that Costco's Cold Brew isn't universally derided. While most discussions on social media around it have been generally negative, it does have its fans. My personal advice if you've purchased it and don't love the flavor is to put it over ice, that helps cut down the aggressiveness of the flavor.

Just be warned: if you purchase this product it is more bitter and acidic than other cold brews on the market. If you purchase cold brew because you enjoy lower acidity, you will want to try a different brand.

Alternative to Kirkland Signature Cold Brew

Starbucks Cold Brew
If you prefer a sweeter option, Starbucks Cold Brew Concentrate is worth a try

Costco sells other coffee products that could be a better alternative if you're not a fan of Kirkland Signature's Cold Brew:

  • Illy Cold Brew: My local Costco doesn't carry this product, but I can order it through Costco's website. Illy Cold Brew is significantly less bitter and will be received well by most cold brew drinkers. The only downside is that a 12-pack costs $29.99, which is double the price I've seen Kirkland Signature Cold Brew selling for when on sale.
  • La Colombe Cold Brew: La Colombe comes out of the can frothy and has a cult following. I personally enjoy the cans, but they do come with some downsides. First, the packs come in three flavors (triple draft latte, mocha draft latte, vanilla draft latte), so if you don't enjoy any of the flavors you're stuck with them. Second, it's a sweeter product that has 100 calories per can. I enjoy other cold brew options because I'm trying to avoid added calories. You can get La Columbe cans in packs of 12 for $21.99 at Costco, but I have seen them on sale as well.

Beyond canned options, another packaged cold brew option is containers that are generally sold in 40 to 64 ounces. Once you open them, you'll want to drink them within two weeks, but if you're a big coffee drinker that shouldn't be a problem.

I recently reviewed Starbucks' Cold Brew Concentrate and found the flavor to be surprisingly sweet. Another option is bottled cold brew from La Colombe, which I've found to taste excellent.

How Much Do You Save Buying Costco’s 157-Piece Le Creuset Kitchen Set? https://www.momswhothink.com/how-much-do-you-save-buying-costcos-157-piece-le-creuset-kitchen-set/ https://www.momswhothink.com/how-much-do-you-save-buying-costcos-157-piece-le-creuset-kitchen-set/#respond Sun, 22 Oct 2023 22:05:40 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=195952&preview=true&preview_id=195952 The post How Much Do You Save Buying Costco’s 157-Piece Le Creuset Kitchen Set? appeared first on Moms Who Think.

Costco is breaking the Internet this weekend. Part of the allure of Costco is that they'll bring in limited-time items, many of which are completely out of left field. It's been called the “Treasure Hunt” shopping strategy as you never quite know what to expect when visiting Costco stores.

The new “Treasure Hunt” item is a 157-piece Le Creuset kitchen set. At $4,500 it's not cheap, but with Le Creuset pots, pans, and dishes each costing upwards of $400, many are wondering just how good of a deal this 157-piece set is. Let's dive into how much money you can save by buying this massive kitchen set deal through Costco.

The Background on Costco's Le Creuset Kitchen Set

Le Creuset is likely the most famous for its Dutch ovens. Prices vary by size with a 2-quart Dutch oven costing $260 while a 9-quart Dutch oven costs $500. However, Le Creuset makes cookware of all kinds, and it is generally acknowledged to be of very high quality.

The 157-piece set includes a wide variety of items. The best way to see what comes with it is to simply look at the picture embedded above, but some highlights include:

  • 3 Dutch ovens ranging from 3.5 to 7.25 quarts.
  • A 16-quart stockpot with lid
  • Casserole dishes, au gratin dishes, square dishes, and pie dishes
  • 8 dinner plates, 8 salad plates, 8 soup bowls, 8 pasta bowls
  • Specialty items like a crepe pan and baking trays

There's so much cookware that the 157-piece set is shipped in a palette and shipping to Puerto Rico, Alaska, and Hawaii isn't allowed.

How Much Can you Save Buying This Set?

In total, each of the items in the Costco Le Creuset 157-piece Cooking Set would cost $7,102. So, by buying all these items in a set you save $2,602, or about 37%.

Are the Costco Savings Worth It?

Is that a big enough savings to justify buying this massive set? It's clearly been enough to overwhelm demand as the Costco page for the 157-piece set is now displaying them as “Out of Stock.”

Le Creuset Out of Stock at Costco
As of Sunday night (October 22nd), the Le Creuset set is out of stock at Costco

The set is probably best suited for buyers who are looking to completely revamp their cookware. A lot of the extra value comes from getting things like dinner plates, soup bowls, and assorted items like spoons which you may already have and aren't looking to replace.

We also isolated items on the list that are dishes (that is to say, excluded things like plates) and the total value came out to a bit more than $5,000. That's still a better value than the complete set through Costco ($4,499.99), but assuming there are some dishes and saucepans you wouldn't otherwise purchase, the savings aren't as extreme.

Regardless, we can't wait to see some videos springing up on TikTok and Instagram of these 157-piece sets hitting homes in the coming weeks!

Videos have started appearing online that show a new spicy fried chicken at Costco's Food Court. With Food Courts specializing in meals like hot dogs, pizza, and chicken bakes, it would make sense if Costco added fried chicken.

However, you might be wondering whether this is a specialty item, one Costco is testing in a limited area, or something you might be able to purchase soon. Let's dive deep into Costco's new spicy fried chicken and look at some chicken meals from the warehouse that can satisfy your cravings.

Costco's spicy fried chicken makes its debut about 13 seconds into the video above. They cost about $3 (in U.S. dollars) and are featured next to clam chowder, seafood pizza, a bulgogi bake, and a pesto chicken sandwich.

Reviews of the spicy fried chicken have been quite positive, but as you can imagine from the names of all the other products in this video, the spicy fried chicken is only available at international Costcos. Specifically, it's a menu item at the Costco Food Court in Taiwan.

However, there have been a number of fried chicken meals appearing at different Costcos across the world, so this might give us a clue as to what Costco could have planned coming to a Food Court near you.

Wings Recently Left Canadian Food Courts

Canadian Costco shoppers have had chicken wings since 2016. The wings were sold in a 10-count for $8.99 (CAD) or a massive bucket of 30 for $22.99 (CAD).

Unfortunately, it appears that these wings began disappearing from Costco Foods Courts in Canada this summer. It's unclear why Canadian Costco removed wings from their menu, but price is likely the main culprit. Chicken prices have been skyrocketing globally and Costco would rather remove the item than raise its price. After all, this is the same company that's kept the price of hot dogs the same since 1985!

If you look further across the world you'll find chicken items at different Food Courts. Costco's Food Courts in Japan are famed for their unique items, and they recently introduced a bucket of wedges and chicken tenders that sell for less than $7.

The Best Chicken to Buy at Costco in the United States Today

Costco Rotisserie Chicken
Costco's Rotisserie Chicken has long been a favorite at $5

Unfortunately, there is no fried chicken in Food Courts in the United States today. And worse, if you've gotten your hopes up that one might be coming to a food court near you, Costco's removal of chicken wings in Canada probably signal spicy fried chicken isn't making an appearance any time soon.

However, it is worth noting that Costco recently began selling nuggets under its Kirkland Signature brand in America, and they're wonderful. I taste-tested them against Chick-fil-A and found they compare very well. While they're not as flavorful as Chick-fil-A nuggets, they had more chicken meat inside that was quite moist.

It appears Costco is partnering with the company ‘Just Bare‘ to produce these nuggets. If Costco has a supply that provides nuggets and tenders and is testing a tender and wedges bucket in Japan, that could be an item that would make its way to U.S. Food Courts. By combining chicken tenders with wedges, Costco reduces the amount of cost tied to skyrocketing chicken prices, which would allow it to offer a chicken tender bucket at reasonable prices.

After the failure of its very expensive (relative to other items) roast beef sandwich, Costco will likely be looking for some items that are cheaper. My vote: it's time for some chicken tenders in U.S. Food Courts.

Why Costco’s Pupusas Are My Favorite Low-Calorie Meal (Cook in Less than 10 Minutes) https://www.momswhothink.com/why-costcos-pupusas-are-my-favorite-low-calorie-meal/ https://www.momswhothink.com/why-costcos-pupusas-are-my-favorite-low-calorie-meal/#respond Wed, 18 Oct 2023 18:44:36 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=191700&preview=true&preview_id=191700 The post Why Costco’s Pupusas Are My Favorite Low-Calorie Meal (Cook in Less than 10 Minutes) appeared first on Moms Who Think.

Costco's Deli Section is full of wonderful meals that can be quickly cooked. Want excellent steak you can heat up in a few minutes? Try the Sliced Grass-Fed Sirloin. Then there are meal kits like Kevin's and breakfast specialties like Starbucks Egg Bites.

Yet, the prepared food I find myself reaching for the most recently when I want a quick dinner is the Del Real Foods Birria & Cheese Pupusa. It's ready in less than 10 minutes, can be a filling meal (or snack) at just 240 calories per serving, and I even have a “hacks” that can pump up the flavor of these already delicious treats.

Let's examine why Deal Real Foods Birria & Cheese Pupusas are an excellent low-calorie meal.

The Background on Del Real Birria & Cheese Pupusas

Birria is taking the world by storm. It's a flavorful stew that can be served with a variety of meats, but in these pupusas you'll find beef. The reason birria is becoming so popular is that it's extremely flavorful.

Here's where I need to be honest, I often get bored with beef in Latin American foods like empanadas or pupusas. That's due to a lack of flavor; beef pastries are often just bland (true of things like English beef pastries as well, in my opinion).

However, birria is anything but bland and adds a spicy and tangy zip to the beef. That's important because the outside of Costco's pupusa is corn, and it could dominate the flavor if the birria wasn't swimming with flavor.

In addition to birria, the pupusas also have mozzarella which adds substantial flavor.

What's the Best Way to Cook Costco's Pupusas?

How to Cook Costco Papusa
I often cook Costco's pupusas in an air fryer

After I first tried Del Real's pupusas, I went online to see if others were as impressed with them as I had been. To be honest, I was surprised to find mixed reviews.

I believe part of that issue is preparation. On this front, I have a few suggestions:

  • Do NOT microwave them: Microwaving almost always provides marginal results and in the case of Del Real's pupusas I found that microwaving them created a very uneven (exterior hot, interior cold) experience and a soggier corn exterior.
  • They're good air-fried, but there's a “hack” to make them taste better: Most of the time, I air-fry Deal Real's pupusas. It's convenient, takes less than 10 minutes, involves no cleaning, and provides generally positive results. Here's my tip though: don't follow the instructions. They suggest air frying at 350 for 5 to 6 minutes. I normally put them in for 8 minutes and it doesn't dry out the pupusa while heating the interior significantly better.
  • Pan-frying is likely the best way to cook them: I've pan-fried Deal Real's pupusas and I believe this yielded the best results. Of course, they're an exciting product because they're so easy to make so perhaps you don't want to get a pan dirty (I often don't). In those cases, air frying is perfectly fine.

Deal Real Birria & Cheese Pupusa Nutrition: Why They're an Excellent Low-Calorie Meal

Costco Papusa Nutritinoal Information
Costco pupusas have 240 calories per serving

The highlight of Deal Real's pupusas is that they have just 240 calories per serving. Now, you may want to dress them up with other ingredients (more on that in a moment) that add calories, but in general even if you eat two of them you're at less than 500 calories.

With each pack costing $11.79 at my local Costco and coming with 10 pupusas, that also means a quick lunch of two pupusas costs less than $3. That's an outstanding value.

Other Pupusa Options at Costco

It's worth noting that Deal Real sells a variety of pupusa options. While my local Costco exclusively sells the birria & cheese pupusa, there is also a carnitas & cheese I've seen posted online (see above). Two other pupusas you might find at other retailers are the bean & cheese and chipotle chicken & cheese.

I have seen reports of the bean & cheese at select Costcos, but have yet to see the chicken & cheese sold at any locations.

Great Ingredients to Add to Costco Pupusas

You'll likely want to enjoy Costco's pupusas with some toppings, so I'll suggest a few of my favorites that keep them low-calorie and delicious:

  • Cholulua Sauce: This versatile topping is delicious on almost everything, and pupusas are no exception. The sauce pairs well with the birria and gives it an additional zip. In addition, it effectively adds no calories and keeps the pupusas a low-calorie option.
  • Good Foods Avocado Smash: Select Costcos sell Good Foods Avocado Mash. Each box of Avocado Smash comes with 16 single containers that are about 90 calories each. It's a no-sugar-added topping that's also high in dietary fiber.
  • Curtido: I'm taking this suggestion directly from the Deal Real Foods' box. Curtido is a Salvadoran slaw you can pick up and provides excellent flavor and balance to a pupusa.

Costco's Food Court is a favorite for millions across the world. Located behind the cash registers, the Food Court specializes in a limited number of items that are both cheap and high-quality. Beyond the famous $1.50 hot dog (which still comes with a drink!), Costco's Food Court has items like pizza and dessert items.

Yet, while items like the hot dog will likely never leave Costco's menu, they're not afraid to take unpopular items off the menu. With rumors circulating that Costco's new Roast Beef Sandwich is being removed from Food Court menus, let's take a look at what might replace it.

5 Meals That Could Be Coming to Costco's Food Court Next

Costco's disappointing (and expensive) Roast Beef Sandwich started appearing on menus in early 2023, but there are reports it's being removed from Food Court menus across the country. At $9.99, it's always been an odd addition to a menu where meals are known for their affordability. With the Roast Beef Sandwich leaving the menu, that leaves open the possibility of Costco replacing it with something more popular.

Here are five items Costco has either tested out or would fit with items in its Food Court and could be coming to a Costco near you sooner rather than later.

  1. Cheeseburger
  2. Chicken Tenders
  3. Turkey and Ham Sandwich
  4. Fried Chicken Sandwich
  5. Bubble Tea

1. Cheeseburger

Costco used to sell a cheeseburger in America, but it was removed at the beginning of Covid

If you're seeing this menu item and thinking “didn't Costco used to sell cheeseburgers at their food court” you're absolutely correct!

Costco used to sell a cheeseburger that was 1/3 pound and included cheddar cheese and Thousand Island sauce. The burgers appeared to be a regional item and appeared between 2017 and 2020 stateside. In different countries, you can still find cheeseburgers at Costco's Food Court. They've long been on the menu at Costco in Japan, for example.

In fact, Costco in Japan continues expanding its burger selection and recently released a Shrimp Katsu Burger! Costco could sell a cheeseburger for either $4.99 or $5.99 that more closely resembles the pricing on its other menu items. It's unclear why Costco pulled its cheeseburger, but I'm sure Covid supply chain issues didn't help. With those resolved, a triumphant return of the cheeseburger could be an excellent option to replace the Roast Beef Sandwich.

2. Chicken Tenders

If you're looking for what Costco might do next, it always helps to look at their Food Court menus in Japan. On that front, Costco recently began selling buckets of chicken tenders! The tenders come in buckets with potato wedges and sell for about $6.64.

Bought chicken sticks and fries at the food court in Japan.
byu/fiftystorms inCostco

Costco recently started selling chicken nuggets that I recently taste-tested against Chick-fil-A and was very impressed. With good suppliers providing high-quality breaded chicken, it's likely Costco could sell a chicken tender meal that's a fan favorite and sells for much less than their $9.99 Roast Beef Sandwich.

3. Turkey and Ham Sandwich

Sandwiches. Italian Panini. Roast Beef or Cuban Sandwich. American Diner sandwich. Sliced roast beef topped with melted Swiss cheese on top of a toasted hero roll with lettuce tomato and onion.
Costco could change out ingredients in sandwiches at its Food Court

The main complaint with Costco's Roast Beef sandwich is that it just wasn't a great value. It cost $9.99, which seems like a fortune next to $1.99 pizza slices, $3.99 Chicken Bakes, and $1.50 hot dogs.

Yet, Costco has noted they're trying to add healthier items to their Food Court, so it's understandable why sandwiches would be a common sense addition. So, maybe they just missed the mark by adding roast beef and need to try a different kind of sandwich.

My proposal: add a Hot Turkey and Ham Sandwich. Costco used to have a Hot Turkey & Provolone Sandwich that was sold for $3.99. The sandwich was hot (which their current Roast Beef Sandwich isn't) and cost far less. Perhaps they just need to use some ingredients that aren't quite as expensive. A sandwich that included meats like turkey and ham, cheese, and perhaps a chipotle mayonnaise would be flavorful and could likely be sold for $4.99 or $5.99.

4. Fried Chicken Sandwich

Here's another item that we can look overseas for some inspiration. At Costco stores in Taiwan, they have a variety of items you won't find in American Costco stores. These include items like Clam Chowder, Bulgogi Pizza, and Fried Chicken Sandwiches.

@haleyandzach_ Why is the food court in America actually trash??? #costco #costcofoodcourt #costcofood #costcoguide #costcotaiwan #costcofoodreview #fastfoodreview #foodreviews ♬ original sound – Haley and Zach | Budget Travel

Chicken sandwiches have been increasingly popular across America. It's not just Chick-fil-A expanding, but also restaurants like McDonald's have also put a significant emphasis on improving their chicken. If Costco didn't want to add a cheeseburger because they've tried it in the past, a fried chicken sandwich that has tomato, lettuce, and sauce with a kick is an easy addition to its Food Court and would likely sell very well.

5. Bubble Tea

@leanne.eats Costco sells TARO and MANGO bubble tea??? 100/10 #costco#adelaide#fyp ♬ Coffee Shop – Late Night Luke

Costco has long sold drinks in its Food Court. Whether that's frozen drinks like their Mango Smoothie or coffee drinks like the Latte Freeze. Bubble tea continues to increase in popularity across the U.S., and Costco sells popular instant Boba drink packs from Boba Bam.

Best of all, Costco has sold taro and mango bubble tea in Australia, so they're no strangers to the product. It might be a bit more “adventurous,” but my bet is a Costco bubble tea would quickly attain cult status and find a legion of fans.

Are Costco’s New Chicken Nuggets Better Than Chick-fil-A? (Full Review) https://www.momswhothink.com/full-review-comparing-costcos-new-chicken-nuggets-vs-chick-fil-a/ https://www.momswhothink.com/full-review-comparing-costcos-new-chicken-nuggets-vs-chick-fil-a/#respond Sun, 08 Oct 2023 19:17:00 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=190830&preview=true&preview_id=190830 The post Are Costco’s New Chicken Nuggets Better Than Chick-fil-A? (Full Review) appeared first on Moms Who Think.

When I read that Costco was launching Chick-fil-A copycat nuggets, I was irrationally excited. After all, I love Costco products and Chick-fil-A makes some of the best chicken nuggets in the world.

So, with Costco's Lightly Breaded Chicken Breast Chunk nuggets out in the wild, do they compare to Chick-fil-A nuggets? I cooked Costco's new nuggets and compared them against Chick-fil-A side-by-side. Read this full review to see whether Costco's new nuggets could be a new staple meal for you and your family.

The Background On Costco's “Copycat” Chick-fil-A Nuggets

Costco Lightly Breaded Chicken Breast Chunks
Side-by-side of Costco's new chicken nuggets and Chick-fil-A nuggets

Cotco's new chicken nuggets are sold under the name “Lightly Breaded Chicken Breast Chunks.” They've become a popular item on Instagram because of their similarity to Chick-fil-A nuggets. Costco has had breaded chicken products in the past from the brand ‘Just Bare,' but the Kirkland Signature version only started showing up later in the summer of 2023.

Nutritional Facts: How Healthy Are Costco's Lightly Breaded Chicken Breast Chunks?

The most important nutritional facts for Costco's Lightly Breaded Chicken Breast Chunks are:

  • Serving Size: 3 ounces (84g)
  • Calories: 140
  • Total Fat: 5g
  • Sodium: 530 mg (23% of daily value)
  • Carbohydrates: 9g
  • Added Sugars: 1g
  • Protein: 16g

Overall, they're very healthy! While 9 grams of carbohydrates might be on the high side if you're on a low-carbohydrate diet, overall most of the calories still come from fat and protein. In addition, there aren't sugars added to make the nuggets taste better. One final positive is that these nuggets only use chickens raised with no antibiotics, added hormones, or steroids.

The most glaring nutritional negative with Costco's new nuggets is their sodium content. If you're having three servings worth (about 9 ounces), that will be 69% of your daily value of sodium. If you're avoiding high-sodium foods, you'll want to avoid these nuggets.

Taste Test: Costco Chicken Nuggets vs. Chick-fil-A

Chick-fil-A Nuggets vs. Costco Nuggets
Costco Nuggets (Left) next to Chick-fil-A Nuggets (Right)

Now, the Internet is buzzing about these chicken nuggets because they're compared to Chick-fil-A's famous chicken nuggets. That got me very interested in how the two nuggets would compare in a head-to-head taste test!

I purchased an 8-piece breaded nugget from Chick-fil-A and compared it to Costco's Lightly Breaded Chicken Breast Chunks. Here's my summary of each:

  • Chick-fil-A Nuggets: Had less chicken and more breading. One positive is that the Chick-fil-A nuggets were also more flavorful thanks to a healthier helping of spices used in their breading.
  • Costco Chicken Nuggets: Didn't have as much flavor, but the chicken inside was very moist and of high quality.

One note, I'd really recommend cooking Costco's chicken nuggets in an air fryer. They won't take more than 10 minutes, but the air fryer gives them an excellent crispy outside while maintaining a moist interior.

Overall, I personally preferred Chick-fil-A's nuggets because of the added flavor from the spices in their breading. However, I actually did think the chicken quality in Costco's nuggets was better. If you prefer a lower amount of breading relative to chicken, my guess is you'll actually think Costco's nuggets are better than what you'll find at Chick-fil-A!

How Good Of a Value are Costco's Nuggets?

I paid $13.99 for a 64-ounce bag of Costco's chicken nuggets. For comparison, an 8-count of Chick-fil-A nuggets is about 4 ounces. So, each bag of Costco Lightly Breaded Chicken Chunks has 16 times as much food as an 8-count Chick-fil-A nugget.

How good of a deal does that make Costco nuggets? Well, an 8-count nugget at my local Chick-fil-A costs $5.19, or about $1.30 per ounce. By comparison, Costco nuggets are $.22 per ounce.

In short, they're a tremendous bargain, especially if you're feeding a family.

Final Thoughts on Costco's Chicken Breast Chunks

Costco Chicken Nuggets
A closer look at Costco's chicken nuggets

Overall, I'm very impressed with Costco's Lightly Breaded Chicken Breast Chunks. If you're a fan of the ‘Just Bare' chicken tenders or nuggets sold at Costco, I can confidently say you'll enjoy this product.

On a scale of 1-10, I'd give Costco's Chicken Breast Chunks an 8.5. They're a tremendous value. My only downsides would be I wish the bag was resealable and I wish they had a little more flavor. Of course, if you're using a dipping sauce the amount of flavor may not matter as much.

One other consideration could be how much your family enjoys Chick-fil-A's nuggets. My kids tried the Costco nuggets and ate them, but would still prefer more kid-focused nuggets (Dino Nuggets). If your kids are fans of Chick-fil-A nuggets, it's a near certainty they'll love this product.
