If you were a kid in the late ‘90s or early 2000s, chances are you watched a beloved Australian children’s entertainment group known as The Wiggles on repeat. The Wiggles, who are renowned for their unique combination of fun, education, and music, have become an international hit. Their colorful characters, catchy songs, and dynamic performances make them memorable. We know that the cast changed in 2022, but whatever happened to the original Wiggles? Join us as we delve into the history and cast of The Wiggles.

The Wiggles

The Formation of the Wiggles

Before the Wiggles in the 1980s, Anthony Field and Jeff Fatt were in an Australian pop band called The Cockroaches. At the time, Murray Cook was a member of several bands. Later, Cook met Field and Greg Page at Macquarie University. They were all studying at the time to become preschool teachers.

Phillip Wilcher (who played piano from the age of eight and had his first work published at the age of 14) started working in the early childhood music department at Macquarie University in the late 1980s. Field met Wilcher in 1990, and that was when he felt motivated to make a children’s music album based on early childhood education. He then recruited Page, Fatt, and Cook. And asked Wilcher to help record their debut album. Thank goodness they did, because the world wouldn’t be the same without their catchy tunes and colorful skivvies.

The Wiggles Whatever Happened to the Original Wiggles?

Members

Without its colorful cast of characters, The Wiggles wouldn’t be the same. Kids loved the lively atmosphere that each member created with their unique qualities for the group. Before the production of their third album, The Wiggles decided to wear color-coded shirts. Fatt and Cook already owned shirts in their colors of purple and red. Field wanted a blue shirt, so Page and he dashed to the store to see who would get the blue one. What a race! Field got their first, and Page ended up with a yellow shirt. Furthermore, Field switched from a green shirt to blue to avoid clashing with Dorothy the Dinosaur. Let’s take a look at each Wiggle.

Anthony Field – Blue Wiggle (1991 – Present)

Anthony Field was the brains behind the operation of The Wiggles. He is the only original member of the Wiggles today. He is the youngest of seven children. In 1991, The Wiggles recorded their first CD; it sold 100,000 copies. Furthermore, in 2018, Field started the Unusual Commoner band for adult fans with David O’Reilly, Oliver Brian, and associate Wiggles member Lachlan Gillespie. They play a mixture of traditional Australian, Scottish, Irish, and folk songs. In late 2018, they played their first international show in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada. As of 2022, Field's daughter Lucia Field acts as Blue Wiggle when he is unavailable.

Murray Cook – Red Wiggle (1991 – 2012)

Murray Cook provided songwriting, guitar, and vocals to the Wiggles group. After he retired, he remained involved in production and creativity. Furthermore, in 2013, he served as the team's touring manager. He then went on to explore other projects. In 2015, he played lead guitar for the Proposition on their album Edge of the Dancefloor. Cook later became a member of the Sydney soul-rock band the Soul Movers, where he showcased his passion for music and guitar skills. From 2013 until present, Simon Pryce has taken over the role of Red Wiggle along with Caterina Mete, who joined in 2022.

Jeff Fatt – Purple Wiggle (1991 – 2012)

Jeff Fatt is a Chinese Australian actor and musician. Before The Wiggles, he also performed with Anthony Field in the pop band The Cockroaches. Out of all the original Wiggles members, Jeff was the oldest. In 2013, Lachlan Gillespie replaced Purple Wiggle. Lachlan gave birth in September 2020 to twin girls, and it was announced that she would take some time off to spend with her new babies. Fatt decided he would temporarily replace her while on maternity leave. In 2021, John Pearce joined and shares the role of Purple Wiggle with Lachlan Gillespie.

Greg Page – Yellow Wiggle (1991 – 2006, 2012)

Greg Page is an Australian actor, musician, and singer. He is a founding member and lead singer of The Wiggles. He has also recorded several solo albums, and Here Comes Christmas was released in 2015. Page suffered from health conditions in the early 2000s, which led him to take a brief retirement in 2006. In 2009 he came out of retirement and started to perform a few live performances. After going into cardiac arrest in 2020, Page became a spokesperson for heart health and founded the Heart of the Nation Charity.

Sam Moran – Yellow Wiggle (2006-2012)

From 2006 to 2012, Sam Moran played the Yellow Wiggle. He studied music and classical voice education at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and wanted to become a high school music teacher. In 2010, Moran released his first solo album through Sony Music called Colour of Love. The album features covers of popular love songs, including “You Make Loving Fun” by Fleetwood Mac. Furthermore, between 2013 and 2021, Moran hosted a preschool series called Play Along with Sam on Nick Jr. In 2015, Moran beat his former bandmates, the Wiggles, and won the ARIA Music Award for Best Children’s Album.

Emma Watkin – Yellow Wiggle (2013 – 2021)

Emma Watkins is an Australian children’s author, entertainer, television presenter, singer and dancer. She was the first female member to join the Wiggles. She starred in her own spin-off series called Emma! as a solo Wiggles actor. After leaving the group in 2022, she launched her own children’s entertainment character called Emma Memma and released her own solo album. In 2023, the album received an ARIA Award for Best Children’s Album. Furthermore, she has also appeared in The Amazing Race Australia, The Masked Singer, and a Christmas special of Lego Masters Australia. She also hosted Teenage Boss: Next Level (2024) and narrated the series Reef School. Emma was then replaced by Tsehay Hawkins and Evie Ferris.

Whatever happened to the original Wiggles? After the original members retired, a new generation formed. The Wiggles continue to introduce new members and entertain new generations, focusing on music and encouraging children around the world. Have you ever wondered what happend to the cast of Barney? Founded in 1971 by Gordon Bowker, Jerry Baldwin, and Zev Siegl, these three men decided to start a coffee shop. As of 2024, there are over 40,199 Starbucks locations worldwide. It’s no secret that Americans love to eat fast food. In 2023, Drive Research conducted a survey revealing that 65% of Americans eat fast food at least once a week. Starbucks is a popular choice for on-the-go beverages and meals. For my New Year’s resolution, I’ve decided to lose a bit of weight, get fitter, and eat fewer fast food meals. Some of the unhealthiest foods to eat at Starbucks include scones, sandwiches, and frappes. These foods are high in fat, sugar, and calories and should be avoided if you want to get healthy. Here are 6 harsh realities that made me reevaluate my love for Starbucks.

Reason 1: Too Many Calories

Harsh Realities That Made Me Reevaluate My Love for Starbucks

Who doesn’t love bacon, egg, and cheese? The Breakfast Double-Smoked Bacon, Cheddar & Egg Sandwich is a high-protein croissant bun. It features bacon smoked over hickory wood chips for six hours. It comes with a cage-free fried egg and is topped with melted cheddar cheese.

Nutritional Information

The Breakfast Double-Smoked Bacon, Cheddar & Egg Sandwich sounds delicious. However, one serving size is 148 g and has 500 calories, 27 g of total fat, and 8 g of sugar. Not to mention it’s also high in sodium, containing 960 mg.

Reason 2: Too Much Sugar in Foods

Lemon loaf cake with sugar icing on a white plate on a stone background. Copy spaceHarsh Realities That Made Me Reevaluate My Love for Starbucks

The Iced Lemon Loaf is a buttery, citrusy lemon pound cake topped with icing. I found the icing had become too sweet. Furthermore, I think it’s quite expensive at $4.75. You can pick up a slice at Walmart for $1.48 that tastes just as good.

Nutritional Information

An isolated image of fingers holding a small blank white paper sheet of nutrition facts

The Iced Lemon Loaf is a popular choice for those with a sweet tooth. But have you ever looked at the nutritional value? One piece is 115 g and has 410 calories, 17 g of fat, and 36 g of sugar. That’s quite a lot considering men should not consume more than 35 g of sugar and women no more than 25 g per day.

Reason 3: The Protein Boxes

Protein Boxes Starbucks

In 2017, Starbucks introduced its protein boxes. There used to be quite a range that would suit different taste buds. The assortment today is not as vast, and I was disappointed to see that not all locations stock the same protein boxes.

Nutritional Information

An isolated image of fingers holding a small blank white paper sheet of nutrition facts

While these meals may be high in protein, they are also high in calories and may not be the right choice for your lunch depending on your personal needs. Let’s take a look at the protein boxes I found at a location near my area.

  • Eggs and Gouda: Contains multigrain crackers, two cage-free hard-boiled eggs, Gouda, peanut butter spread, a blend of dried apricots, apples, and salt and pepper. Serving size: 170 g and 530 calories.
  • Cheese Trio: Contains sea salt and olive oil crackers, Gouda, Brie, and sharp Cheddar cheese with dried cranberries and apricots. Serving size 135 g and 520 calories.
  • Eggs and Cheddar: Contains sliced tart apples, two cage-free hard-boiled eggs, grapes, white cheddar cheese, honey peanut butter, and multigrain muesli bread. Serving size 247 g and 460 calories.

Furthermore, I also think the protein boxes are expensive. You can make your own at home for a fraction of the price.

Reason 4: The Breakfast Sandwiches Recall

Back in 2016, Starbucks recalled breakfast sandwiches, cheese, and fruit boxes. According to CNN, these items were voluntarily recalled due to concerns of contamination with allergens or listeria. This reality made me reevaluate my love for Starbucks, especially after I found out that Starbucks does not make its food fresh. All foods arrive boxed up, frozen, and popped into a small machine to be heated up. With that said, this is my personal opinion and concern about contamination.

Listeria Infection Information

According to Mayoclinic.org, listeria is a foodborne bacterial illness that can affect people with weak immune systems, people over the age of 65, and pregnant women. The problem with this bacteria is that it can survive in the fridge and freezer. Symptoms can include, diarrhea, nausea, fever, chills, and muscle aches.

Reason 5: Sugar Amount in Drinks

Sure, that Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino tastes like heaven, but have you thought about how much sugar and calories you’re putting into your body? It might be time to think twice before you indulge in these extra-sugary drinks daily. I was completely shocked about the amounts.

Nutritional Information

An isolated image of fingers holding a small blank white paper sheet of nutrition facts

Based on a grande size, 16 fl oz

  • Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino: 60 g sugar and 470 calories
  • Iced Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha: 61g sugar and 460 calories
  • Caffè Vanilla Frappuccino 63 g sugar and 410 calories

Reason 6: Rising Prices

Rising prices cost of living interest rate tax raise crisis concept. Global CPI index data number surge up high in grocer market by cooking oil food supply chain issues at retail store grocery mall. 6 Harsh Realities That Made Me Reevaluate My Love for Starbucks

Starbucks used to be well known for its affordable fast food prices. However, the prices have increased a lot over the past few years making it less budget-friendly.  Finance Buzz used information from website menus to see how prices have increased since 2014.

Increased Percentage

6 Harsh Realities That Made Me Reevaluate My Love for Starbucks
  • Cake Pop: in 2014 cost $1.50 and in 2024 it cost $2.95 that’s a 97% increase.
  • Bagel: in 2014 cost $1.25 and in 2024 it cost $2.25 that’s an 80% increase.
  • Sausage and Cheddar Breakfast Sandwich: in 2014 cost $2.95 and in 2024 cost $4.25 that’s a 44% increase.
  • Spinach and Feta Wrap: in 2014 cost $3.25 and in 2024 cost $4.45 that’s a 37% increase.

Finally, instead of spending money on Starbucks, I could save that money and put it towards a pension fund. 6 harsh realities that made me reevaluate my love for Starbucks are going to help me achieve my goals to get fit.

Can you guess the children’s show that your grandmother loves too? No, it’s not Peppa Pig; it’s Bluey. This Australian animated television series was created by Joe Brumm and first aired in October 2018. There are 3 seasons and 154 Bluey episodes. Bluey is a six-year-old (later seven-year-old) blue Heeler puppy (Australian cattle dog). She is known for endless amounts of energy, creative thinking, and curiosity about the world. This cute young dog lives with her mother, Chilli; father, Bandit; and little sister, Bingo.

The series focuses on Australian culture, growing up, and family. Bluey is the children’s show that your grandmother loves too. It offers relatable parental experiences, life lessons, and witty humor. This kid's show is one everyone can enjoy. Let’s take a look at why parents, grandparents, and caregivers rave about the show.

Bluey entertains the crowd. The Children's Show That Your Grandmother Loves Too

Ideas for Child-Friendly Activities & Games

Bluey and Bingo play imaginative games in most of the episodes. All of these games are entertaining and easy to duplicate at home. “Featherwand” is a charming episode where Bingo has a featherwand and makes everything heavy. Mum and Bluey are about to get in the car to go to Chloe's party, and Bingo turns everything heavy using a feather. The car keys, the hat, and Chloe's present are all heavy. Bluey enjoyed playing the game and had second thoughts about going to the party because she didn’t want to miss out on the “featherwand” game. If you’re a parent looking for fun things to do even on rainy days, Bluey has great ideas that promote role-playing and creativity.

The Children's Actors Are Incredibly Funny

Their voices are not only cute, but they are really funny comedians. I loved the episode called “Grouchy Granny.” Bluey, Bingo, and their cousin Muffin dress up and pretend to be grannies. Muffin acts like a grouchy granny trying to sell her granny mobile at the neighbor Doreen’s yard sale. Doreen is a very kind and sweet elderly Great Pyrenees. Next the “grouchy granny” runs into a real-life grouchy granny who wants to purchase the granny mobile and bargains with her; it becomes even more hilarious.

The Children's Show That Your Grandmother Loves Too

Bluey Shows Common Parenting Problems

A distinctive quality of the Bluey show is that it shows common parenting problems. In season 3 episode 24 “Faceytalk,” Trixie and Stripe argue about how to deal with Muffin’s misbehavior. Bluey and Bingo enjoy video chatting on Faceytalk with their cousins Muffin and Socks. They like to draw pictures together. In this episode, the kids learn what happens when they hog and don’t take turns. It also shows parents that it’s ok not to have all the answers regarding parenting.

It Shows the Community as a Family

People don’t seem to talk to their neighbors anymore, and without this type of interaction, people can feel more disconnected. However, in the show, the characters are always interacting with one another. In season 2 episode 34, “Café,” Bluey tells her mum about making a new friend named Winnie. She wants to go have breakfast at Winnie’s house, but her dad says they’ve only just met. In this episode, Bluey realizes that adults take a little longer to make friends. Bluey teaches people not to feel alone and to reach out and speak to those around them.

Bluey Points Out How To Have Fun Doing Housework

When you get stuck in the same routine every day, it can feel tedious. It’s not fun to vacuum the floors, do the laundry, and wash the dishes. Thankfully, after watching Bluey, we can regain a sense of mystery and magic that lies hidden in daily chores. Whether it’s doing the BeeeeOOP dance, or a funny walk.

Promotes Good Habits For Kids and Adults

Bluey encourages children to do the small things they need to do, like eat their vegetables, take a bath, and brush their teeth while showing them why these things are important to do.

Allows People To Heal From Bad Childhood Experiences

It allows some adults to heal from bad childhood experiences; watching Bluey reminds them of the childhood they could have had. For example, Bandit and Chilli make time to play with their children. For some, this is a reminder that their parents may have always been busy and didn’t have time for them.

Bandit and Chilli Communicate With Their Children

In the show, there are many times when the parents communicate with their kids, either by listening to their needs or providing reasons for why things are the way they are. Children want to be heard, and Bluey is a reminder that as adults we need to communicate with them in the correct ways.

Self-Care Is Important

As adults, we need to remind ourselves that self-care is important. In season 3, episode 11, “Sheepdog” Chilli confidently tells her family, “I need 20 minutes when no one comes near me!” This is relatable for all parents; it’s okay to take time for yourself.

Teaches Adults How to Parent

Finally, parenting can be tricky. There isn’t a rule book to follow, and it’s hard to know which methods to use. Even though Bluey is just a TV show, it acts as a guide and teaches adults how to parent. With patience and support, parenting can be a wonderful reward.

Are These Japanese Parenting Tactics Better Than How Americans Raise Children? https://www.momswhothink.com/are-these-japanese-parenting-tactics-better-than-how-americans-raise-children/ https://www.momswhothink.com/are-these-japanese-parenting-tactics-better-than-how-americans-raise-children/#respond Mon, 27 Jan 2025 09:01:07 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=244751&preview=true&preview_id=244751 The post Are These Japanese Parenting Tactics Better Than How Americans Raise Children? appeared first on Moms Who Think.

Parenting is said to be one of the hardest jobs in the world. When it comes to raising children, many parents wish there was a straightforward manual they could follow. While there are thousands of parenting books out there, it’s important to remember that each child and family is unique, and not all parenting styles are the same.

Different cultures have distinct parenting styles that reflect their own values, social norms, and beliefs. As with all cultures, there are differences between American and Japanese parenting tactics that influence how children are cared for. Read on to find out how these parenting styles differ.

Japan

As of 2025, Japan is the eleventh-most populous country, with a population of more than 123 million. This country is made up of four main islands: Kyushu, Hokkaido, Shikoku, and Honshu, along with thousands of smaller islands.

The tactics used in Japanese households have drawn attention to Japanese parents and how they raise their children. These parents focus on self-regulation, independence, respect, and discipline and their methods differ from traditional Western approaches. Let’s take a look at a few examples.

1. Family Dynamics

A Japanese family playing together in a fresh green park. They are smiling and looking at the camera in the backlight. This photo was taken from the waist up. Are These Japanese Parenting Tactics Better Than How Americans Raise Children?

Nuclear families are most common in Japanese culture; however, there are extended families too. Extended families are families with three generations living together. Often, families eat meals together and traditional food is important. Social harmony, politeness, and modesty are also important in Japanese culture.

2. Understanding Proximal Parenting Style

portrait of asian mother and baby on tthe bed. Are These Japanese Parenting Tactics Better Than How Americans Raise Children?

The proximal parenting style is linked to extended and regular body touch between the mother and the child. In Japan, this is the most common style of parenting. It’s normal for the mother and child to co-bathe and co-sleep together.

A survey on Japanese parenting customs found that in the first two years of life, Japanese mothers were only away from their babies for two hours a week while American parents would spend 24 hours away. In Japanese culture, it’s not common for parents to get babysitters or go on vacation without taking the baby with them.

3. Understanding Distal Parenting Style

Next, we have the distal parenting style. According to a 2009 study, this style focuses more on facial expression, eye contact, verbal communication, and the use of objects to interact. This type of parenting involves more distance between the parent and the child than other parenting styles. It occurs more in Western, modern, and urban culture families and it’s not that common in Japan.

4. Individualism vs. Collectivism

Individualism or collectivism road sign on cloudy sky background. Are These Japanese Parenting Tactics Better Than How Americans Raise Children?

Many Western countries, such as the United States, Australia, and South Africa, are considered individualistic cultures. This is because they often prioritize individualism and personal achievement. Many Asian countries, like Japan, are considered collective cultures because they follow social norms and prioritize the needs of group harmony instead of the needs of an individual.

5. Responsibility and Self-Discipline

Japanese children are instilled with responsibility and self-discipline from a young age. This teaches them to manage their own behavior and make good decisions in life. It’s also a way of teaching them to value and work hard to achieve their goals.

6. Independence

Japanese parents allow their children to work on tasks independently. This teaches them important skills, such as problem-solving, and will enable them to take on challenges with confidence.

7. Screen Time

three asian primary school student playing video game using tablet computer with serious facial expression.

The government of Kagawa said that children’s marks have been dropping in school. Because of this, a new law was passed limiting screen time for children under 18. The new rule states that children can only play video games for 90 minutes on holidays and weekends and 60 minutes on school days. However, the government has no way of enforcing these rules.

8. Community and Extended Family

Extended family sitting outdoors smiling

The Japanese have very strong ties with their community. Extended family and community play an important role in raising children for Japanese parents. This support and guidance helps the children to feel connected with those around them.

9. Cleaning Time

Cleaning concept. Mother and daughter are helping to wipe the glass.

In Japan, parents and teachers implement cleaning time at home and school. Cleaning up your space is part of learning good manners and consideration towards others in their culture. Having children clean also develops their social abilities and helps to clear their minds. In the schools, children are put in groups of four or six and given roles to clean the group’s area each week, which usually takes about 5-15 minutes to do.

10. Academics

Studying children Elementary school entrance examinations and other images.

Finally, Japanese parents put significant focus on their children’s academics. Compared to many other countries, these students have longer school days and often attend after-school activities. The education system is highly competitive, which is why they have to study so hard. This competitive environment can put a lot of pressure on school-age children.

Many people enjoy a nice, chilled glass of white wine while they sit back and relax or eat a delicious meal together. Did you know that there are over 600 different white grape varieties worldwide? That means we have plenty of choices, from sweet wines with richer tones to popular dry varieties. Chardonnay is generally a drier wine; however, that doesn’t mean that it lacks any sweetness. I enjoy a good glass of white wine and like to try different ones; forget Chardonnay, these 8 white wines are better.

Sauvignon Blanc

The taste can vary from a pleasantly sweet tropical to a strong grassy flavor depending on the climate. In warm climates, it can have tropical notes such as peach and grapefruit. Additionally, in cooler climates, the grapes produce notes of passionfruit, elderflower, and green bell peppers. Sauvignon Blanc is generally lighter in weight and alcohol. When slightly chilled, pair this wine with cheese, sushi, and other fresh recipes.

Riesling

This white grape variety originated in the Rhine region of Germany. Today it is found in Canada, Italy, France, Hungary, New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, Luxembourg, Slovakia, Austria, and the United States. It has an almost perfume fragrance and high acidity. Furthermore, it is used to make sparkling, dry, sweet, and semi-sweet white wines. Riesling pairs well with spicy mango and Thai curry meatballs or curried shrimp.

When looking for this wine find ones with tropical fruits like pineapple, lychee, tangerine, and mango. Pair this wine with a pork, honey, and ginger stir fry or Vietnamese pork ribs.

Pinot Blanc

The wine produced from this grape in Alsace, Hungary, Italy is a full-bodied dry white wine. In Austria and Germany, this white wine can either be sweet or dry. Pinot Blanc usually includes flavors such as pear and apple with hints of citrus. Once aged it has smokey undertones and notes of almonds. This wine pairs well with white flaky fish, turkey, and pork tenderloin.

Chenin Blanc

Forget Chardonnay, These 12 White Wines Are Better

This is undoubtedly one of the greatest and most versatile grapes grown, sweet, crisp, and even sparkling wine. It is a white wine grape that comes from the Loire Valley in France. Furthermore, this grape buds early but ripens late. When grown in cool climates, it is often not as ripe and can be an over-acidic fruit. This variety thrives in warmer climates like South Africa. With that said, more than 50% of Chenin Blanc is found in South African vineyards. It has flavors of pear, apple, and hints of honey. Pair this wine with rich seafood, salads, pork, chicken, and sweet and sour dishes.

Pinot Grigio

The Sémillon grape originated in the West of France in the Bordeaux region. It is also grown in Australia, South Africa, California, New Zealand, and more. This crisp white wine is low in alcohol with a delightful tanginess. It has unique flavors of toast, lemon, green apple, pear, green papaya, and lanolin, which people describe as waxy. Sémillon wines pair well with all types of seafood, beef and broccoli, pad Thai, and Indian butter chicken.

When it comes to the world of white wines, Chardonnay is a popular, recognized choice by many wine drinkers. As previously mentioned, there are over 600 grape varieties, and as a wine enthusiast, it is worth trying as many as you can. Forget Chardonnay; these 8 white wines are better.

Cabernet Sauvignon is a popular classic red wine. It has savory notes and a hint of chocolate that will excite any palate. This wine became popular, where it was often mixed with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. From Spain and France, this grape spread across Europe and found new homes in New Zealand, California’s Napa Valley, Australia’s Margaret River, South Africa’s Stellenbosch region, and more. However, when it comes to great wine, the world is filled with a variety of red, flavorful, fruit-driven wines that are just as good as the fine Cabernet Sauvignon. I used to only drink Cabernet Sauvignon, but these 12 red wines are better.

Terrazas Altos Malbec

Terrazas Altos Malbec is a flavorful red wine with purple undertones. It has a fragrant smell of black fruits like berries and plums with spicy notes of white pepper. You can pick up a bottle at Target for $14.99. This wine pairs well with a great steak, duck, or lamb.

1000 Stories Bourbon Barrel Aged Zinfandel

Woman pouring red wine from bottle into glass at table indoors, closeup. I Used to Only Drink Cabernet Sauvignon, But These 16 Red Wines Are Better

This wine is aged in bourbon barrels, and that is where it gets its rich, juicy taste and hint of smokiness from. Classic notes of black fruits and a dash of black pepper are present. For a memorable dining experience, pair this wine with grilled smoked salmon.

14 Hands Merlot

This wine has a pleasing taste with notes of cherry. On the palate, it has flavors of blackberries, oak, mocha, and black cherry. Pair this wine with roast beef and caramelized vegetables.

Caliveda Pinot Noir

This wine bursts with flavor and has a medium purple color with notes of pomegranate cola and black cherry with an appealing vanilla fragrance. Pair this wine with roast turkey and cranberry sauce or barbeque ribs.

Jam Jar Sweet Shiraz/Syrah

Jam Jar is a well-crafted option if you prefer a sweeter wine. The Sweet Shiraz is a perfect balance between acidity and sweetness. Shiraz wine also has high levels of antioxidants. Pair this wine with red meat. The tannins found in Shiraz complement the flavor of the meat.

Petite Sirah

Red grapes ready to be harvested at a vineyard. I Used to Only Drink Cabernet Sauvignon, But These 16 Red Wines Are Better

This red was first discovered in the mid-1800s in France. It is mainly grown in California and has a deep color and full-bodied flavors of chocolate, black pepper, blueberries, and plums. Pair this wine with stuffed peppers.

Grenache

Elegance of tasty Red Wine Pouring into a glass, I Used to Only Drink Cabernet Sauvignon, But These 16 Red Wines Are Better

This grape is one of the most commonly planted grapes in the world. It is believed to have originated in Spain. Furthermore, it needs hot, dry conditions to grow because it ripens late. This grape is also grown in Australia, Santa Barbara County, and Paso Robles. Its flavor profile includes strawberries and raspberries with a subtle white pepper note. Pair this wine with stews or braised short ribs.

Tempranillo

This black grape variety is grown to make full-bodied red wines in Spain. It ripens seven weeks earlier than most red Spanish grapes. Tempranillo has a neutral profile and blends well with Carignan and Grenache. It is also aged for a long time in oak, where it takes on the flavor of the barrel. It usually has the flavor profile of strawberries, vanilla, and plums. This wine pairs well with burgers, BBQs, and paella.

Gamay

This purple-colored grape is a very old cultivar and is mostly grown in the Loire Valley around Tours and Beaujolais. Gamay wines are low in tannin and are best enjoyed when slightly chilled. These wines tend to have a fruity flavor profile of cherries and berries with hints of flowers. Furthermore, it is usually produced in a dry style, as it is not very sweet and has high acidity. Pair this wine with roast chicken or grilled fish.

Sangiovese

Sangiovese's harvest in Montepulciano, Tuscany, Italy. I Used to Only Drink Cabernet Sauvignon, But These 16 Red Wines Are Better

Sangiovese is a dark grape of the Italian grape variety. It is primarily grown in Tuscany, Italy. This is a dry wine with high acidity and a medium body. Furthermore, it has a delightful fruity fragrance with notes of blackberry, plum, and cherry. Pair this wine with slow-roasted pork, fried chicken livers, or tomato-based pasta.

Cabernet Franc

One of the most popular black grape types in the world is Cabernet Franc. It is lighter in color when compared to Cabernet Sauvignon. Depending on the style of wine and where it has grown, its fragrance can include violets, raspberry, bell pepper, and tobacco. As a medium-bodied wine, it pairs well with tomato-based dishes and rich, fatty foods.

Nebbiolo

Diverse group of friends raising wine glasses against sunlit trees. Close-up of hands toasting with red wine outdoors, representing celebration, friendship, and joyful moments in nature. I Used to Only Drink Cabernet Sauvignon, But These 16 Red Wines Are Better

This full-bodied red wine is well known for its production in Barbaresco and Barolo, Italy. Nebbiolo wines are defined by their amounts of tannin and acidity. These wines can take years to age before they become pleasant to drink. The most common notes are fragrances of roses and tar. In addition, other fragrances include fresh herbs, mulberries, leather, and dried fruit. Pair this wine with braised duck, ribeye steak, cheese, butternut, and wild rice.

Some of us like bold, robust wines, and others may prefer something delicate and smooth. We each have our own unique taste buds. Why not try a different one the next time you go out for dinner? I used to only drink Cabernet Sauvignon, but these 12 red wines are better.

Charmin was my family’s favorite for years, but these 8 toilet paper brands are better. Initiated in 1928, Charmin was first created by the Hoberg Paper Company. Its name changed from Hoberg to Charmin Paper Company in 1950. In 1957, Procter & Gamble (P&G) took over Charmin Paper Company.

For many years, Charmin has been a popular toilet paper brand for many households. First, there’s the Ultra Soft, if you’re looking for incredibly soft toilet paper. Then, there’s the Ultra Strong, which is longer-lasting. For those with sensitive skin, the Ultra Gentle will help take out the sting with the added soothing lotion on each sheet. If you are looking for the best value, then there are the Essentials Soft or Strong. And finally, the Charmin Flushable Wipes to keep handy when you’re on the go. There seems to be a Charmin toilet paper that suits everyone’s needs.

However, while Charmin has been a reliable friend in the bathroom kingdom, my family’s tastes changed. It was time to explore the toilet paper realm.

Cottonelle

Produced by Kimberly-Clark Cottonelle is a popular American toilet paper brand. Cottonelle is the only brand that has CleaningRipples on the paper for better down-there care. I find this toilet paper great. It’s very absorbent, doesn’t tear easily, and it has a slight scent.

Products

  • Ultra Clean: The texture helps you remove more at once. It is 3x thicker and stronger.
  • Ultra Comfort: This is their softest toilet paper, and it is 3x more absorbent, leaving you comfortably dry.
  • FreshCare Flushable Wipes: These wipes also have CleaningRipples, leaving you feeling refreshed.
  • GentleCare Flushable Wipes: These wipes have a touch of Vitamin E and Aloe and are made with 95% pure water.
  • Extra Large Flushable Wipes: They’re effective, gentle, and fresh. They are also 40% larger than the other wipes.

Furthermore, the wipes are made with 100% plant-sourced fibers and break down straight away. They are also plumber-approved, IWSFG 2020 compliant, and septic and sewer safe.

Up&Up

Targets-exclusive brand Up&Up was recently given a new logo and graphics. They have added additional household items to this brand to give customers even more reason to choose Target.

While Up&Up has a large variety of household essentials, their three types of toilet paper have become popular among patrons. It is praised for its decent quality and affordability, making it a popular choice for those seeking budget-friendly options.

  • Premium Ultra Soft: It cleans gently, and the materials used come from sustainably maintained forests.
  • Soft & Strong: This two-ply toilet paper is septic-safe and soft and offers a comfortable clean.
  • Premium Ultra Strong: It’s ultra-strong and cleans without ripping or tearing.

What did the toilet paper say to the clean bathroom? You’re spotless!

The strength of this toilet paper is surprisingly strong. It’s soft and doesn’t clog the toilet. I also find that we use less when compared to other brands, and it doesn’t disintegrate.

12 mega rolls contain 300 sheets.

Finally, when it comes to toilet paper, I can be quite picky. My kids always use too much toilet paper, so I’m all for a brand that doesn’t clog the toilet. Charmin was my family’s favorite for years, but these 8 toilet paper brands are better.

Founded in 1905 by Frank Brunckhorst, Boar’s Head supplies condiments, deli meats, and cheeses. When it comes to deli meat, Boar’s Head is a popular choice for many patrons. In the fast food industry, burgers are one of America’s top food choices. Each of us has a particular chain restaurant that we feel really stands out above the rest. How does a burger from a fast food restaurant meet all of the requirements to make the best burger? Well, the best burgers are usually made with top-quality beef, fresh tomatoes, lettuce, onions, a fluffy bun, and the perfect right sauce. In-N-Out and Shake Shack are both renowned for their delicious burgers; however, it all boils down to your personal preference. Join us as we explore their menu and evaluate customers’ taste tests and experiences to uncover the verdict. In-N-Out vs. Shake Shack: Who actually has the better burger?

In-N-Out: Menu

In-N-Out vs. Shake Shack: Who Actually Has the Better Burger?

First, In-N-Out has a very basic menu that features the Double-Double, Cheeseburger, and Hamburger. The not-so-secret menu features favorites such as the Double Meat, 3X3, 4X4, Grilled Cheese, Animal Style, and Protein Style, where you can choose whether you want your burger on a bun or wrapped in lettuce.

Shake Shack: Menu

Shake Shack Outside In-N-Out vs. Shake Shack: Who Actually Has the Better Burger?

Next, Shake Shack’s menu is more diverse and offers approximately 16 different burgers, including beef, chicken, and veggie. They also serve their specialty crinkle-cut fries, shakes, frozen custard, flat-top hotdogs, and an array of beverages.

In-N-Out: Taste

In-N-Out vs. Shake Shack: Who Actually Has the Better Burger?

In-N-Out is well renowned for its pledge to always use fresh, high-quality ingredients.

Pros

  • They never use frozen patties.
  • Fresh vegetables are always used.

Cons

  • Some customers have said that the overall taste of the burger is not satisfying and the sauce doesn’t taste great.

Shake Shack: Taste

In-N-Out vs. Shake Shack: Who Actually Has the Better Burger?

Like In-N-Out, Shake Shack is well known for using high-quality Angus beef and then smashing it to perfection.

Pros

  • The patty is bigger; it’s juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside.
  • Some customers prefer the minimal spices used, which are only salt and pepper, which they say enhance the flavor of the beef.

Cons

  • Everyone has different flavor profiles, and some would prefer a tad bit of extra spices added to the patty.
  • When ordering a double patty or more, the fat ratio tastes overwhelming with other ingredients, which can make you feel uncomfortable and sick.

In-N-Out: Toppings

As previously mentioned, In-N-Out serves basic hamburgers: the Double Double, Cheeseburger, and Hamburger. However, sometimes you just want a burger with a few more ingredients.

Pros

  • Many people enjoy the standard burger with 1 or 2 patties, lettuce, onions, cheese, and tomato. Others enjoy a more simple burger with less garnish, and it’s not oily.

Cons

  • Some customers find the sauce bland and describe it as a simple Thousand Island dressing. Customers would be happier with another two or three alternative sauces.
  • In-N-Out likes to keep their burgers basic; however, adding bacon and eggs to the list of toppings would enhance the menu and ultimately result in more sales.

Shake Shack: Toppings

Burger Cheese Truffle Potato bun. In-N-Out vs. Shake Shack: Who Actually Has the Better Burger?

As mentioned earlier, Shake Shack has a diverse menu, with about 16 different burgers with toppings.

Pros

  • Shake Shack burgers include eggs and bacon. Who doesn’t love eggs and bacon? For those who don’t eat meat, that’s ok because Shake Shack offers veggie burgers too.
  • More flavors: Yes!! White truffle, avocado, and shroom. Ah!! And let’s not forget the chicken burgers. I’m getting hungry!

Cons

  • It was my first time traveling to America, and while Shake Shack burgers seemed to be the hit, I have to say I was very disappointed. I wanted to try the Truffle Double Burger; it looked delicious, and I’d never eaten truffles. Sigh!! It was swimming in oil. The bottom part of my bun was soaked; I couldn’t eat it. I really was disappointed; the top part tasted fine, but I couldn’t get over how much oil was swimming in the takeaway tub.
  • Other reviewers have also mentioned that burgers with two patties or more tend to be way too oily. This is where personal preference comes in.

In-N-Out: Price Comparison

In-N-Out 4x4 In-N-Out vs. Shake Shack: Who Actually Has the Better Burger?

In-N-Out is generally cheaper than Shake Shack. This is probably because they have a limited menu, and as we all know, it can be quite pricey to get takeout, especially when taking the family. For a family of four, you can get a whole meal and a shake for under $20.

Pros

  • In-N-Out is affordable if you’re looking for a quick lunch or midnight snack. They are also open on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. For those who have a sensitive palate, In-N-Out is a great place to grab a meal at an affordable price.

Cons

  • Some may feel disappointed that there are no options to add extra toppings or switch sauces.

Shake Shack: Price Comparison

Burger Shake Shack

Shake Shack has some really toothsome items on their menu. Logically speaking, if you’re seeking more than a regular burger, you’ll obviously pay more. The White Truffle Burger is $12.59. I would advise a single patty because, in my experience, double patties may contain too much oil. Although everyone has their own preference. There is no doubt that In-N-Out burgers contain fewer calories than Shake Shack. While In-N-Out has fewer burger options on the menu, let’s take a look at the calorie intake of the popular standard Double Double. Keep in mind the 4X4 will obviously have more calories.

  • Double Double: features two meat patties, two cheese slices, crispy lettuce, onion, tomatoes, and In-N-Out’s famous spread. This burger contains 670 calories and costs $5.15.

Shake Shack: Calories

In-N-Out: Customer Satisfaction

Happy woman thinking drinking coffee sitting in a resturant terrace

Each In-N-Out restaurant has various reviews on customer experiences. I guess it all depends on where the branch is located and how friendly the staff are.

Pros

  • Some locations have superior customer service, and the staff is friendly, with affordable prices.

Cons

  • A few areas tend to be less maintained, and customers feel unsatisfied when arriving for a midnight snack.

Shack Shake: Customer Satisfaction

close up of woman paying with credit card in cafeteria

As mentioned previously, each chain restaurant can either satisfy their customers or not. However, each has their own preference.

Pros

  • Most customers welcome the friendly hospitality that they receive at Shake Shack chain restaurants.
  • With added toppings and a diverse range of burger choices, customers can enjoy a variety of flavors and toppings to satisfy their needs.

Cons

  • Some customers are not happy with the price of burgers and think that it’s overpriced for the size. However, one should keep in mind that each branch is different, although they should keep up to the quality and standards to which the company abides.

Shake Shack:  Vibe

Pros

  • Customers enjoy the music and appreciate that the sound is not blasting in their ears while enjoying their meal.
  • Some branches allow customers to play their Spotify soundtracks as long as the soundtrack is appropriate.

Cons

  • When busy customers feel that they have waited too long for their food and the restaurants feel overcrowded with no space to sit.

Final Thoughts

In-N-Out has a limited menu; however, their prices are affordable. I would like to try Shake Shack again, and this time have a single patty so I don’t have that bloated sick feeling. I would love to hear in the comments what your thoughts are. In-N-Out vs. Shake Shack: who actually makes the better burger?

According to CBS News, JD Flannel Donuts is ranked #1 in the top 100 via Yelp reviews. What an amazing achievement!

Via Google reviewer ちんエミリー (Emily), “This place is adorable! The donuts are super good; I loved the Boysenberry baked donut and the chocolate-raised donut. The raised donut was sooo fluffy, and the baked one was crispy on the outside but so moist on the inside. They were good even 3 days later, which is surprising to me for donuts! That’s how fresh they are.
We also got a small espresso shot while we were waiting! That was so nice. I saw the owner handing out stickers to children, which was really sweet. The service is so friendly here.”

During the 1800s, many Americans consumed bacon and eggs for breakfast, providing them with a high-protein meal to start their day. However, it wasn’t until later that lower-calorie breakfast meals became quite the rage. In 1972, McDonald’s introduced their breakfast menu, and it holds a special place in people’s stomachs and hearts. The egg McMuffin became a popular hit for those looking for a quick, convenient, and satisfying morning meal. Adding more breakfast items to the menu resulted in more customers and higher demand. I enjoy a decent breakfast to get me going; however, I used to think McDonald’s breakfast was the best, but these 8 are superior.

In addition to serving food, these 8 restaurants are not just a place to eat but also to socialize with friends and family. Breakfast restaurants have grown to include small businesses and large chains, and each one offers its own version of what is known as the most important meal of the day.

When it comes to grocery shopping, Trader Joe’s has unique products and affordable prices that many shoppers love. However, even loyal customers can’t deny that other grocery stores offer equal if not better shopping experiences. There are budget-friendly stores, health stores, and more that cater to various customer needs. Don’t get me wrong; I love Trader Joe’s, but even I admit these 8 grocery stores are better.

Kroger

I Love Trader Joe's, But Even I Admit These 8 Grocery Stores Are Better

Kroger has over 2,719 stores that offer a variety of products, including its own store brands. This is an advantage for shoppers seeking budget-friendly options as well as premium goods and wanting to stretch their dollar further.

Discounts and Promotions

I Love Trader Joe's, But Even I Admit These 8 Grocery Stores Are Better

Next, I think Kroger is better because they often have promotional offers and sales events, which results in huge savings. Furthermore, in-store customers can find manager specials, which sometimes consist of seasonal or near-expiration products marked down.

Whole Foods

I Love Trader Joe's, But Even I Admit These 8 Grocery Stores Are Better

What sets Whole Foods apart is its large range of constant and organically sourced products. Shoppers know that the products they are choosing are of high quality and meet environmental requirements.

For Health-Conscious Shoppers

I Love Trader Joe's, But Even I Admit These 8 Grocery Stores Are Better

Whole Foods is the perfect grocery store to go to for those looking to prioritize their health. This store focuses on catering to wellness-minded people seeking unique superfoods, gluten-free products, and other health-conscious alternatives. And I have to admit that their sushi is one of the best I’ve ever tasted.

ALDI

I Love Trader Joe's, But Even I Admit These 8 Grocery Stores Are Better

Noted as an example of a no-frills store, this German family-owned retailer has over 12,500 locations. It often displays a variety of cut prices, such as hygiene products, food, toilet paper, beverages, and other household items. Many products are their own brands, making them a popular and affordable choice.

Services

Trader Joe’s does not have much of an online presence or delivery options. Many people prefer to shop online, seeing that it is more convenient. However, I love the fact that ALDI lets you purchase online through the new ALDI app, and you can choose to have your goods delivered or use the curbside pickup. With their online presence, you can view weekly ads, the weekly ALDI finds, and upcoming ALDI finds.

Wegmans

I Love Trader Joe's, But Even I Admit These 8 Grocery Stores Are Better

Founded in 2017, Wegmans has 111 locations. They are well known for their friendly service, customer satisfaction, quality, and variety of products. At Wegmans, you can appreciate consistently low prices and enjoy your shopping spree.

Services

I Love Trader Joe's, But Even I Admit These 8 Grocery Stores Are Better

Furthermore, you can shop online, pick up, or have your order delivered straight to your door. You can even get meal help and watch their on-demand webinars and learn how to eat like a pro, hydrate, and improve brain and sleep health. I must add that their ready-made meals and Gold Pan meals are impressive and very convenient.

Food 4 Less

I Love Trader Joe's, But Even I Admit These 8 Grocery Stores Are Better

Kroger currently owns this no-frills grocery store and has 101 locations. Food 4 Less is proud that in 2024 it raised $17,000 for cancer kids of San Joaquin County. Customers are pleased with how clean and well laid out the store is. They are also impressed with their affordable prices and how they call it their go-to grocery store to save money.

Cultural Foods and Services

I Love Trader Joe's, But Even I Admit These 8 Grocery Stores Are Better

Furthermore, you can find an array of cultural foods that you typically won’t find in any other store. They also have fresh organic produce at great prices that are well worth checking out. In addition, you can order online for collection or delivery, making it convenient for you to get on with your day-to-day routine.

Costco

The nice thing about Costco is that you can buy in bulk, stock up on toilet paper, packaged foods, and canned foods, and take advantage of exclusive deals. I also enjoy purchasing the Grass Fed Sirloin by Cuisine Solutions; the beef is juicy, and I can get a couple of meals out of the package.

Cash Back Rewards

I love places that offer rewards programs. At Costco, you get 4% on eligible gas and EV charging for the first $7,000 per year; after that, 1%. A further 3% on eligible travel and restaurants. 2% on other purchases from Costco.com and Costco. Finally, 1% on all other card purchases.

Walmart

Founded in 1962, Walmart has over 10,600 locations worldwide. Customers can appreciate their savings and enjoy high-quality products, as evidenced by their slogan, “Save Money, Live Better.” Their goal is for customers to enjoy saving money on daily items and live a better life.

Finding a Future

Furthermore, Walmart is proud to assist transitioning military spouses, military personnel, veterans, and National Guard/Reserves to find significant futures through opportunities in education, employment, and entrepreneurship. This wonderful news makes Walmart stand out as one of the best. You can find out more here.

Sprouts Farmers Market

Sprouts Outside

To end our list, I went with Sprouts Farmers Market. They offer a wide variety of natural and organic foods that are sourced locally. At Sprouts, you will be able to receive excellent, friendly customer service, and stores are decently laid out and not cluttered.

What Can You Find?

Inside Sprouts

Offering farm-fresh produce, you will be able to find products that will suit your dietary needs and preferences. These include organic, gluten-free, plant-based, keto, paleo, and non-GMO products. Sprouts Farmers Market is perfect for those who are health conscious. Furthermore, they too have a rewards program where you have access to exclusive deals, home delivery, and curbside pickup.

I must say I love Trader Joe’s, but even I admit these 8 grocery stores are better with their unique offerings.

Who doesn’t love a decent hamburger? I know I do! Burgers are the best comfort food, combining a juicy patty, melted cheese, and various toppings with a yummy sauce. White Castle has a couple of sliders, rings, and bites in a convenient package for you to heat up at home. However, I think White Castle is overrated — these 8 burger joints are divine. Let’s sink our teeth into the world of delicious, mouthwatering hamburgers.

In-N-Out Burger

Founded in October 1948 In-N-Out Burger is one of the most popular fast-food restaurant chains in America. In-N-Out makes their own hamburger patties using 100% fresh USDA ground chuck. Furthermore, it’s free of preservatives, additives, and fillers.

The double-double: two slices of American cheese, two beef patties, sliced or grilled onions, crispy lettuce, special spread, and juicy tomatoes on a freshly baked bun. If you are really starving, you can order the triple-triple, which has 3 patties, or the quad-quad, which has 4 patties.

Burger King

What To Order?

Big Boy has quite a large menu to choose from. There are waffle fries, salads, soups, pastas, burritos, biscuits, sandwiches, and burgers. The mushroom and Swiss burger is a delicious option to try. On a grilled brioche bun you will find a tasty garlic spread, Swiss cheese, mushrooms, and caramelized onions.

Three-quarters of a pound of fresh beef, American cheese, Applewood smoked bacon, tomato, crisp lettuce, pickle, mayo, ketchup, and onion on a toasted bun.

Finally, it’s ‘bun’-tastic! This burger is pure deliciousness. In 2001, this American fast-food restaurant chain started as a hot dog cart in Madison Square Park. It grew quickly, and in 2004 it received a permit to open a permanent kiosk within the premises and extend its menu to include burgers, milkshakes, and fries.

What To Order?

Burger Shake Shack

I love Shake Shack’s crinkle-cut fries; they are always crispy and not soggy. I love their burgers with crispy onion rings; they are to die for. Furthermore, I enjoy their festive holiday deals, and I think that their chicken burgers are the best. In conclusion, I am a burger fan, and I personally think White Castle is overrated — these 8 burger joints are divine and should be at the top of the list.

The Deluxe Club is loaded with fresh-sliced, oven-roasted turkey, hickory-smoked bacon, premium roast beef, your choice of fresh toppings, and provolone cheese served on a freshly baked wheat or white roll.

Jimmy John’s

When Jimmy John Liautaud graduated from high school, his father gave him a choice to start a business or join the army. It was then that he decided to start a hot dog business; however, due to costs, it changed to sandwiches. Jimmy John’s was founded in 1983 and now has over 2,700 locations.

Favorites

At Jimmy John’s, they are called favorites for a reason: that’s because I can’t decide which one is best. Maybe it’s the Italian Night Club, Beach Club, or Club Lulu with 11 favorites on the list; you may just need to try each one.

Potbelly Sandwich Shop

Subway Used to Be My Go-To Sandwich Spot - But These # Alternatives Are Way Better

Next on our list is another fantastic alternative, Potbelly Sandwich Shop, founded in 1977. Their sandwiches are made with the freshest ingredients, and the bread is baked to perfection. Furthermore, the staff welcomes you with a friendly smile and excellent service. Potbelly sandwiches are not only tasty, but they are a better alternative to Subway, and what’s more, their sandwiches are also affordable. A Potbelly sandwich is a meal that can make any day better. Next time you head to Potbelly, try the Pizza Melt; it combines the best of a sandwich and a pizza.

Capriotti’s

Capriotti's

The Bomb Sandwich

The Bomb Sandwich

It’s important to note that Sal, Kris & Charlie’s Deli does not make small sandwiches. You would have to eat one of their sandwiches in more than one sitting or share it with a couple of friends. The Bomb is one of their famous signature dishes, which weighs around 2 pounds. It consists of layers of thinly sliced ham, turkey, pastrami, roast beef, pepperoni, mortadella, American cheese, mild provolone cheese, lettuce, onions, sweet and hot peppers, tomato, and your choice of olive oil and vinegar, mustard, mayonnaise, or all three. The price is $19 and it is worth every penny.

On a black pepper focaccia, you will bite into succulent grilled chicken, aged white cheddar, applewood smoked bacon and ranch sauce. There are also vegetarian-friendly sandwiches like the Toasted Garden Caprese. Not only is Panera Bread’s food tasty, but they are also nutritious, making them an excellent choice for those who are health conscious.
