3. Golden Nugget Pancake House

Golden Nugget Pancake House has four locations and has been serving Chicago for over 50 years. Founded by Howard N. Quam, this restaurant is certainly the place to go for an awesome breakfast. The portion sizes are huge and absolutely delicious. They have a vast menu that includes Mexican favorites, trendy food, and diner staples for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Recommended Meal: Fruit Waffle

I would definitely want to try everything on their menu. Their prices are excellent. The buttercream waffles are made fresh daily in their kitchen with pure butter and fresh Grade AA eggs. This delectable fruit waffle is made with fresh slices of in-season strawberries, blueberries, apples, and bananas topped with whipped cream.

4. Huddle House

Founded by John Sparks in April 1964, Huddle House has 272 locations. The staff are very friendly and engaging. Their breakfast menu features 2 egg breakfast platters, big house breakfasts, fluffed and stuffed omelets, stuffed hashbrowns, sweet cakes, perfectly cooked pancakes, golden waffles, and bowels. So there is a lot to choose from. In addition, they also serve burgers and melts, home-style dinners, and desserts.

Recommended Meal: MVP (Most Valuable Platter)

This platter is one of the most popular breakfasts. It comes with 3 strips of Applewood smoked bacon, 2 patties of turkey sausage or country sausage, crispy hashbrowns or seasonal fruit, 2 eggs, an old-fashioned buttermilk pancake or golden waffle, and your choice of buttery toast, homestyle grits, or biscuit and sausage gravy. I must give a double thumbs up: the biscuit & sausage gravy is one of the best I’ve ever had.

5. Perkins Restaurant & Bakery

This American casual dining restaurant was established by Matt and Ivan Perkins in 1957. The company has 265 locations and serves breakfast and other homestyle meals. Furthermore, the bakery items include muffins, pies, and freshly baked sweet items. Some of their breakfast items include 3-egg omelets, perfect platters, pancakes, freshly cracked classics, and biscuit breakfasts.

Recommended Meal: Southern Fried Chicken Biscuit Breakfast

This breakfast consists of American cheese and a fried chicken fillet inside two freshly baked biscuits. Served with two Applewood smoked bacon strips, two eggs, your choice of breakfast potatoes, or hashbrowns topped with cream gravy. It’s full of flavor and really hits the spot. I look forward to trying their other items. Perkins also offers healthy breakfast options like egg white omelets, fresh fruits, and whole grain pancakes. 

6. Village Inn

The Village Inn was founded 66 years ago by James Mola and Merton Anderson. The casual dining restaurant has 116 locations. It is well known for its breakfast items as well as its variety of burgers, dinner items, and pies. The breakfast menu features heritage breakfast, pancakes, waffles, crêpes, and French toast. Their breakfasts are worth the price, and this restaurant is worth coming back to.

Recommended Meal: Eggs Benedict

This includes smoked ham and two poached eggs over a toasted English muffin and finally topped with a delightful Hollandaise sauce. If you like a nice runny egg, then give this one a try.

7. First Watch

Founded in 1983 by Ken Pendery and John Sullivan, start your day off with an exceptional breakfast that looks good, tastes good, and will make you feel good. First Watch has more than 535 locations in 13 different states. They serve healthy granola bowls, oatmeal, frittatas, wraps, waffles, and more.

Recommended Meal: Carne Asada Hash

Treat yourself at First Watch to a Carne Asada Hash. This breakfast comes with thinly sliced carne asada, diced bell peppers, and crumbled chorizo in a potato hash. 8. Tudor’s Biscuit World

Many breakfast chains have their own specialties, and this one is biscuits. The breakfast menu also features low-carb platters and pancake platters.

Tudor’s biscuits are fluffy and large and come with a variety of toppings. Our favorite on the list is the Super Breakfast. It comes with your choice of sausage or bacon, two eggs, fried potatoes, stewed apples, gravy, and a homemade buttermilk biscuit.

Reason 1: Too Many Calories

Who doesn’t love bacon, egg, and cheese? The Breakfast Double-Smoked Bacon, Cheddar & Egg Sandwich is a high-protein croissant bun. It features bacon smoked over hickory wood chips for six hours. It comes with a cage-free fried egg and is topped with melted cheddar cheese.

Nutritional Information

The Breakfast Double-Smoked Bacon, Cheddar & Egg Sandwich sounds delicious. However, one serving size is 148 g and has 500 calories, 27 g of total fat, and 8 g of sugar. Not to mention it’s also high in sodium, containing 960 mg.

Reason 2: Too Much Sugar in Foods

The Iced Lemon Loaf is a buttery, citrusy lemon pound cake topped with icing. I found the icing had become too sweet. Furthermore, I think it’s quite expensive at $4.75. You can pick up a slice at Walmart for $1.48 that tastes just as good.

Nutritional Information

The Iced Lemon Loaf is a popular choice for those with a sweet tooth. But have you ever looked at the nutritional value? One piece is 115 g and has 410 calories, 17 g of fat, and 36 g of sugar. That’s quite a lot considering men should not consume more than 35 g of sugar and women no more than 25 g per day.

Reason 3: The Protein Boxes

In 2017, Starbucks introduced its protein boxes. There used to be quite a range that would suit different taste buds. The assortment today is not as vast, and I was disappointed to see that not all locations stock the same protein boxes.

Nutritional Information

While these meals may be high in protein, they are also high in calories and may not be the right choice for your lunch depending on your personal needs. Let’s take a look at the protein boxes I found at a location near my area.

• Eggs and Gouda: Contains multigrain crackers, two cage-free hard-boiled eggs, Gouda, peanut butter spread, a blend of dried apricots, apples, and salt and pepper. Serving size: 170 g and 530 calories.
• Cheese Trio: Contains sea salt and olive oil crackers, Gouda, Brie, and sharp Cheddar cheese with dried cranberries and apricots. Serving size 135 g and 520 calories.
• Eggs and Cheddar: Contains sliced tart apples, two cage-free hard-boiled eggs, grapes, white cheddar cheese, honey peanut butter, and multigrain muesli bread. Serving size 247 g and 460 calories.

Furthermore, I also think the protein boxes are expensive. You can make your own at home for a fraction of the price.

Reason 4: The Breakfast Sandwiches Recall

Back in 2016, Starbucks recalled breakfast sandwiches, cheese, and fruit boxes. According to CNN, these items were voluntarily recalled due to concerns of contamination with allergens or listeria. This reality made me reevaluate my love for Starbucks, especially after I found out that Starbucks does not make its food fresh. All foods arrive boxed up, frozen, and popped into a small machine to be heated up. With that said, this is my personal opinion and concern about contamination.

Listeria Infection Information

According to Mayoclinic.org, listeria is a foodborne bacterial illness that can affect people with weak immune systems, people over the age of 65, and pregnant women. The problem with this bacteria is that it can survive in the fridge and freezer. Symptoms can include, diarrhea, nausea, fever, chills, and muscle aches.

Reason 5: Sugar Amount in Drinks

Sure, that Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino tastes like heaven, but have you thought about how much sugar and calories you’re putting into your body? It might be time to think twice before you indulge in these extra-sugary drinks daily. I was completely shocked about the amounts.

Reason 6: Rising Prices

Starbucks used to be well known for its affordable fast food prices. However, the prices have increased a lot over the past few years making it less budget-friendly.  Finance Buzz used information from website menus to see how prices have increased since 2014.

Increased Percentage

• Cake Pop: in 2014 cost $1.50 and in 2024 it cost $2.95 that’s a 97% increase.
• Bagel: in 2014 cost $1.25 and in 2024 it cost $2.25 that’s an 80% increase.
• Sausage and Cheddar Breakfast Sandwich: in 2014 cost $2.95 and in 2024 cost $4.25 that’s a 44% increase.
• Spinach and Feta Wrap: in 2014 cost $3.25 and in 2024 cost $4.45 that’s a 37% increase.

Finally, instead of spending money on Starbucks, I could save that money and put it towards a pension fund. 6 harsh realities that made me reevaluate my love for Starbucks are going to help me achieve my goals to get fit.

Cuba Libre

Otherwise known as rum and coke, this cocktail originated in Cuba during the early 20th century. It became a favorite drink across Cuba, the United States of America, and other countries. Simply add 2 parts of Bacardi Superior Rum, 1 wedge of fresh lime squeezed, and top up with Coca-Cola. Add all parts to a tall glass and serve on ice.

The Cane Swizzle

Sugarcane spirits are popular around the world. The juice is produced by pressing sugarcane, fermenting it, and then distilling it into a spirit. To make a Cane Swizzle, you will need a Collins glass with cubed ice, cane, Blue Curacao, lemon juice, and a dash of grenadine. Then top up with lemonade and garnish with a mint sprig.

Daiquiri

A cocktail done right is like a meal in itself. The Daiquiri is a popular summer drink that consists of white rum, sugar, or another sweetener, and a citrus juice, usually lime juice. Nowadays various Daiquiri recipes include frozen fruits such as strawberries or bananas.

Manhattan

The Manhattan cocktail is made with bitters, whisky, and sweet vermouth. It is usually stirred with ice and then strained into a chilled cocktail glass and garnished with a cherry.

Sidecar

During the 1920s this cocktail became popular in London and Paris. It is traditionally made with lemon juice, Cointreau, and Cognac.  Shake in a shaker with ice, then strain into a cocktail glass. Serve it with a twist of lemon or orange. 

Old Fashioned

The old-fashioned was given its name in the 1800s. It is made by adding whiskey, bitters, a sugar cube, and a dash of water served over ice in an old-fashioned glass. It is then garnished with a twist of lemon and a cherry.

 Brandy Alexander 

The original Alexander was made by mixing gin with crème de cacao and cream and not brandy. If you haven’t tried one of these, then you are missing out. Gather 1 ½ ounces of cognac, 1 ounce of dark crème de cacao, and 1 ounce of cream. Mix in a shaker with ice, strain into a chilled glass, and garnish with grated nutmeg.

Whiskey Sour

A Whiskey Sour is commonly served before dinner and contains sugar, whiskey, and lemon juice. It can be made as a mixed drink or shot. Simply shake with ice, strain, and pour into a chilled glass. Serve on the rocks and garnish with a cherry and half a slice of orange. 

Between the Sheets

Between the Sheets can be enjoyed at any time of the day. This cocktail was a derivative of the Sidecar in the 1930s at Harry’s New York Bar in Paris. Add white rum, cognac, triple sec, and lemon juice to a shaker with ice, strain, and serve in a chilled cocktail glass without ice.

Gin Fizz

In America, between 1900 and the 1940s, this cocktail became quite popular. To make it, add gin, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup to a shaker with ice. Shake for 2 minutes, then strain into a chilled glass and top with soda water. Garnish with a slice of lemon without ice.

Mary Pickford

This cocktail was named after a Canadian-American actress in the 1920s by Fred Kaufmann or Eddie Woelke at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba. It is made with fresh pineapple juice, white rum, Maraschino liqueur, and grenadine. The ingredients are shaken in a shaker, strained, and served in a chilled cocktail glass with a cherry.

The Porto Flip

Jerry Thomas recorded this cocktail in his book The Bartender’s Guide: How to Mix Drinks; A Bon Vivant’s Companion in 1862. Furthermore, it is referred to as the “Coffee Cocktail” named for its looks rather than the ingredients used. It is commonly served after dinner. In a shaker, mix brandy, port, and egg yolk with ice, then strain and pour it into a chilled glass. Finally, garnish with grated nutmeg.

The Tuxedo

The Tuxedo was first mixed at the Tuxedo Club in Orange County, New York. It can be enjoyed at any time of the day. In a shaker with ice, mix gin, orange bitters, absinthe, dry vermouth, and maraschino. Strain and pour into a chilled cocktail glass. Finally, garnish with a cherry and a twist of lemon zest.

The Bloody Mary

This popular cocktail was invented in the 1920s or 1930s. The original Bloody Mary was only made with vodka and tomato juice. When making a Bloody Mary, gently shake vodka, tomato juice, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, tobacco sauce, celery salt, and black pepper in a shaker. Strain and pour into a long glass with ice. As of 2025, Japan is the eleventh-most populous country, with a population of more than 123 million. This country is made up of four main islands: Kyushu, Hokkaido, Shikoku, and Honshu, along with thousands of smaller islands.

The tactics used in Japanese households have drawn attention to Japanese parents and how they raise their children. These parents focus on self-regulation, independence, respect, and discipline and their methods differ from traditional Western approaches. Let’s take a look at a few examples.

1. Family Dynamics

Nuclear families are most common in Japanese culture; however, there are extended families too. Extended families are families with three generations living together. Often, families eat meals together and traditional food is important. Social harmony, politeness, and modesty are also important in Japanese culture.

2. Understanding Proximal Parenting Style

The proximal parenting style is linked to extended and regular body touch between the mother and the child. In Japan, this is the most common style of parenting. It’s normal for the mother and child to co-bathe and co-sleep together.

A survey on Japanese parenting customs found that in the first two years of life, Japanese mothers were only away from their babies for two hours a week while American parents would spend 24 hours away. In Japanese culture, it’s not common for parents to get babysitters or go on vacation without taking the baby with them.

3. Understanding Distal Parenting Style

Next, we have the distal parenting style. According to a 2009 study, this style focuses more on facial expression, eye contact, verbal communication, and the use of objects to interact. This type of parenting involves more distance between the parent and the child than other parenting styles. It occurs more in Western, modern, and urban culture families and it’s not that common in Japan.

4. Individualism vs. Collectivism

Many Western countries, such as the United States, Australia, and South Africa, are considered individualistic cultures. This is because they often prioritize individualism and personal achievement. Many Asian countries, like Japan, are considered collective cultures because they follow social norms and prioritize the needs of group harmony instead of the needs of an individual.

5. Responsibility and Self-Discipline

7. Screen Time

The government of Kagawa said that children’s marks have been dropping in school. Because of this, a new law was passed limiting screen time for children under 18. The new rule states that children can only play video games for 90 minutes on holidays and weekends and 60 minutes on school days. However, the government has no way of enforcing these rules.

8. Community and Extended Family

The Japanese have very strong ties with their community. Extended family and community play an important role in raising children for Japanese parents. This support and guidance helps the children to feel connected with those around them.

9. Cleaning Time

In Japan, parents and teachers implement cleaning time at home and school. Cleaning up your space is part of learning good manners and consideration towards others in their culture. Having children clean also develops their social abilities and helps to clear their minds. In the schools, children are put in groups of four or six and given roles to clean the group’s area each week, which usually takes about 5-15 minutes to do.

10. Academics

Finally, Japanese parents put significant focus on their children’s academics. Compared to many other countries, these students have longer school days and often attend after-school activities. The education system is highly competitive, which is why they have to study so hard. This competitive environment can put a lot of pressure on school-age children.

Sauvignon Blanc

This green-skinned grape originated in the Loire and Bordeaux regions of France. Today it is commonly grown in South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia. The taste can vary from a pleasantly sweet tropical to a strong grassy flavor depending on the climate. In warm climates, it can have tropical notes such as peach and grapefruit. Additionally, in cooler climates, the grapes produce notes of passionfruit, elderflower, and green bell peppers. Sauvignon Blanc is generally lighter in weight and alcohol. When slightly chilled, pair this wine with cheese, sushi, and other fresh recipes.

Riesling

This white grape variety originated in the Rhine region of Germany. Today it is found in Canada, Italy, France, Hungary, New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, Luxembourg, Slovakia, Austria, and the United States. It has an almost perfume fragrance and high acidity. Furthermore, it is used to make sparkling, dry, sweet, and semi-sweet white wines. Riesling pairs well with spicy mango and Thai curry meatballs or curried shrimp. 

Gewürztraminer

This grape is a variety in the Alsace region of France. It has a red-to-pink color and is used in white wines. It grows well in cooler climates. Gewürztraminer is well-balanced and does not have excess alcohol or tannin. Furthermore, this rare white makes wines that are floral and spicy. When looking for this wine find ones with tropical fruits like pineapple, lychee, tangerine, and mango. Pair this wine with a pork, honey, and ginger stir fry or Vietnamese pork ribs.

Pinot Blanc

The wine produced from this grape in Alsace, Hungary, Italy is a full-bodied dry white wine. In Austria and Germany, this white wine can either be sweet or dry. Pinot Blanc usually includes flavors such as pear and apple with hints of citrus. Once aged it has smokey undertones and notes of almonds. This wine pairs well with white flaky fish, turkey, and pork tenderloin.

Chenin Blanc

This is undoubtedly one of the greatest and most versatile grapes grown, sweet, crisp, and even sparkling wine. It is a white wine grape that comes from the Loire Valley in France. Furthermore, this grape buds early but ripens late. When grown in cool climates, it is often not as ripe and can be an over-acidic fruit. This variety thrives in warmer climates like South Africa. With that said, more than 50% of Chenin Blanc is found in South African vineyards. It has flavors of pear, apple, and hints of honey. Pair this wine with rich seafood, salads, pork, chicken, and sweet and sour dishes.

Pinot Grigio

This white wine grape originated from Burgundy in France and can either be a dynamic yellow or rose-tinted color depending on the grapes’ skin. It is a medium-bodied white wine that is light and lower in acidity than Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. It is well known for its floral tones and zesty flavor. Pair Pinot Grigio with calamari and garlic lime sauce or a creamy white sauce with chicken.

Viognier

Viognier is a type of white wine grape in the Rhône Valley; it is the only grape that is allowed to be used in the French wine Condrieu. Furthermore, it can be found in the South Moravia region in Czechia, New Zealand, North and South America, the Cape Winelands in South Africa, Czechia, Austria, and more. • Some customers find the sauce bland and describe it as a simple Thousand Island dressing. Customers would be happier with another two or three alternative sauces.
• In-N-Out likes to keep their burgers basic; however, adding bacon and eggs to the list of toppings would enhance the menu and ultimately result in more sales.

As mentioned earlier, Shake Shack has a diverse menu, with about 16 different burgers with toppings.

Pros

• Shake Shack burgers include eggs and bacon. Who doesn’t love eggs and bacon? For those who don’t eat meat, that’s ok because Shake Shack offers veggie burgers too.
• More flavors: Yes!! White truffle, avocado, and shroom. Ah!! And let’s not forget the chicken burgers. I’m getting hungry!

Cons

• It was my first time traveling to America, and while Shake Shack burgers seemed to be the hit, I have to say I was very disappointed. I wanted to try the Truffle Double Burger; it looked delicious, and I’d never eaten truffles. Sigh!! It was swimming in oil. The bottom part of my bun was soaked; I couldn’t eat it. I really was disappointed; the top part tasted fine, but I couldn’t get over how much oil was swimming in the takeaway tub.
• Other reviewers have also mentioned that burgers with two patties or more tend to be way too oily. This is where personal preference comes in.

In-N-Out: Price Comparison

In-N-Out is generally cheaper than Shake Shack. This is probably because they have a limited menu, and as we all know, it can be quite pricey to get takeout, especially when taking the family. For a family of four, you can get a whole meal and a shake for under $20.

Shake Shack has some really toothsome items on their menu. Logically speaking, if you’re seeking more than a regular burger, you’ll obviously pay more. The White Truffle Burger is $12.59. I would advise a single patty because, in my experience, double patties may contain too much oil. Although everyone has their own preference. However, if you prefer chicken, Shake Shack Chicken Shack is superb and only costs $9.89.

In-N-Out: Calories

There is no doubt that In-N-Out burgers contain fewer calories than Shake Shack. While In-N-Out has fewer burger options on the menu, let’s take a look at the calorie intake of the popular standard Double Double. Keep in mind the 4X4 will obviously have more calories.

• Double Double: features two meat patties, two cheese slices, crispy lettuce, onion, tomatoes, and In-N-Out’s famous spread. This burger contains 670 calories and costs $5.15.

Shake Shack: Calories

Shake Shacks The Double Shack Burger contains more calories than the Double Double from In-N-Out.

Double Shack Burger: It includes two Angus beef patties, with double cheese, lettuce, tomato, and their specialty Shack Sauce. One burger will cost $12.49. Furthermore, this burger contains 760 calories.

In-N-Out: Customer Satisfaction

Each In-N-Out restaurant has various reviews on customer experiences. I guess it all depends on where the branch is located and how friendly the staff are.

Pros

• Some locations have superior customer service, and the staff is friendly, with affordable prices.

Cons

• A few areas tend to be less maintained, and customers feel unsatisfied when arriving for a midnight snack.

Shack Shake: Customer Satisfaction

As mentioned previously, each chain restaurant can either satisfy their customers or not. However, each has their own preference.

• Most customers welcome the friendly hospitality that they receive at Shake Shack chain restaurants.

• With added toppings and a diverse range of burger choices, customers can enjoy a variety of flavors and toppings to satisfy their needs.

• Some customers are not happy with the price of burgers and think that it’s overpriced for the size. However, one should keep in mind that each branch is different, although they should keep up to the quality and standards to which the company abides.

• Customers enjoy the music and appreciate that the sound is not blasting in their ears while enjoying their meal.

Final Thoughts

In-N-Out has a limited menu; however, their prices are affordable. I would like to try Shake Shack again, and this time have a single patty so I don’t have that bloated sick feeling. Furthermore, you can find an array of cultural foods that you typically won’t find in any other store. They also have fresh organic produce at great prices that are well worth checking out. In addition, you can order online for collection or delivery, making it convenient for you to get on with your day-to-day routine.

Costco

The nice thing about Costco is that you can buy in bulk, stock up on toilet paper, packaged foods, and canned foods, and take advantage of exclusive deals. I also enjoy purchasing the Grass Fed Sirloin by Cuisine Solutions; the beef is juicy, and I can get a couple of meals out of the package.

I love places that offer rewards programs. At Costco, you get 4% on eligible gas and EV charging for the first $7,000 per year; after that, 1%. A further 3% on eligible travel and restaurants. 2% on other purchases from Costco.com and Costco. Finally, 1% on all other card purchases.

On a grilled brioche bun you will find a tasty garlic spread, Swiss cheese, mushrooms, and caramelized onions.

Wendy’s

Founded in November 1969, there are over 7,100 Wendy’s locations. Wendy’s is well known for its iconic square patties served on a round bun. French fries, chicken sandwiches, and hamburgers make up most of the menu.

If you love Wendy’s as much as I do, then you should sign up for their rewards. For each dollar you spend, you earn points towards free food. What should you try next? The big bacon classic triple. Three-quarters of a pound of fresh beef, American cheese, Applewood smoked bacon, tomato, crisp lettuce, pickle, mayo, ketchup, and onion on a toasted bun.

Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers

“Burgers: the perfect balance of simplicity and satisfaction.” – Wolfgang Puck. Founded in 2002, there are 515 locations. This American fast-food restaurant chain serves scrumptious steakburgers, chicken sandwiches, and Vienna beef hotdogs. They also serve the most delicious frozen custard, which is made several times per day.

As soon as you walk in, you are greeted by friendly staff. The restaurant is spotless, and the atmosphere is great. The steakburgers are juicy and cooked perfectly with a crispy edge. Furthermore, the fries are fresh and seasoned well and pair well with Freddy’s notable fry sauce.

Steak ‘n Shake

Lettuce have a burgerlicious time! Founded in 1934, Steak ‘n Shake has over 400 locations in the United States. They are well known for their popular steakburgers and hand-dipped milkshakes. Many of their restaurants are open seven days per week and 24 hours a day. Furthermore, their prices are reasonable, and the burgers taste amazing.

What To Order?

Original Double Cheese ‘n Steakburger: made with 100% beef, you will find two steakburgers, lettuce, American cheese, tomato, ketchup, pickles, and onion. You can also add your own toppings. I recommend their crispy onion rings. Make sure to order those too.

The Habit Burger Grill

Don’t be ‘beef-uddled’ – burgers are always a good idea. I absolutely love a freshly chargrilled burger. The Habits burgers are amazing, all cooked to order over an open flame. Service is fast; the garlic fries are absolutely delicious and full of flavor.

What To Order?

The Charburger with cheese was amazing. It’s topped with crispy lettuce, fresh tomato, mayo, pickles, and caramelized onions. I highly recommend ordering their tempura green beans, which also come with ranch dressing. Next time I want to try the Portabella Char.

Shake Shack

Finally, it’s ‘bun’-tastic! This burger is pure deliciousness. In 2001, this American fast-food restaurant chain started as a hot dog cart in Madison Square Park. It grew quickly, and in 2004 it received a permit to open a permanent kiosk within the premises and extend its menu to include burgers, milkshakes, and fries.

What To Order?

I love Shake Shack’s crinkle-cut fries; they are always crispy and not soggy. I love their burgers with crispy onion rings; they are to die for. Furthermore, I enjoy their festive holiday deals, and I think that their chicken burgers are the best. In conclusion, I am a burger fan, and I personally think White Castle is overrated — these 8 burger joints are divine and should be at the top of the list.

Schlotzsky’s

Founded in 1971, Schlotzsky’s has over 300 locations throughout the United States. In the beginning, they only served one sandwich known as “The Original.” It consisted of mixed meats, black olives, and cheeses and was served on a freshly made toasted bun.

Smoked Turkey Breast

Life is too short for boring sandwiches. All sandwiches are served on their signature sourdough bread. Each bite makes you feel happy inside, and it comes in three different sizes: small, medium, and giant. The Smoked Turkey Breast comes with lettuce, lite mayo, turkey, and tomatoes.

Which Wich Superior Sandwiches

Founded in 2003, Which Wich has over 431 locations and specializes in salads and sandwiches. Which Wich also gives back to the community. The Spread the Love program helps those who are suffering from hunger. When someone orders a jelly and peanut butter sandwich, the company donates one to someone in need.

Cali Roll

A sandwich is a meal that can be as complex or as simple as you want it to be. For those of you who like customizing your order, there are 50+ toppings to choose from. In addition, their menu also has a variety of options, including their Wicked signature sandwich, seafood, turkey, vegetarian, ham, pork, Italian, beef, chicken, breakfast, and classics.

Lennys Grill & Subs

Founded in 1998, Lennys Grill & Subs specializes in Philadelphia-style deli sandwiches and cheesesteaks. There are over 100 locations, and the chain boasts that its bread is freshly baked, and the ingredients used are of the highest quality.

Delux Club

Famous sandwiches include cold and hot Italian subs and different twists on the Philly cheesesteak. You can’t beat Lennys when it comes to a mouth-watering sub. The Deluxe Club is loaded with fresh-sliced, oven-roasted turkey, hickory-smoked bacon, premium roast beef, your choice of fresh toppings, and provolone cheese served on a freshly baked wheat or white roll.

Jimmy John’s

When Jimmy John Liautaud graduated from high school, his father gave him a choice to start a business or join the army. It was then that he decided to start a hot dog business; however, due to costs, it changed to sandwiches. Jimmy John’s was founded in 1983 and now has over 2,700 locations.

Favorites

At Jimmy John’s, they are called favorites for a reason: that’s because I can’t decide which one is best. Maybe it’s the Italian Night Club, Beach Club, or Club Lulu with 11 favorites on the list; you may just need to try each one.

Potbelly Sandwich Shop

Next on our list is another fantastic alternative, Potbelly Sandwich Shop, founded in 1977. Their sandwiches are made with the freshest ingredients, and the bread is baked to perfection. If you fancy a Mediterranean nibble or a grilled-to-perfection delight, there’s something to please your taste buds.

Pizza Melt

Furthermore, the staff welcomes you with a friendly smile and excellent service. Potbelly sandwiches are not only tasty, but they are a better alternative to Subway, and what’s more, their sandwiches are also affordable. A Potbelly sandwich is a meal that can make any day better. Next time you head to Potbelly, try the Pizza Melt; it combines the best of a sandwich and a pizza.

Capriotti’s

Founded in 1976, Capriotti’s has 112 locations in 27 states. In 2016, the chain ranked 264 in Entrepreneur’s Franchise 500. Did you know that every night for 12 hours, each restaurant roasts whole turkeys, then hand pulls the meat and makes their own meatballs and delicious coleslaw?

Capastrami  

Using premium chicken, steak, and American Wagyu, you know that you will experience a taste like no other, making you want to come back for more. I thought the Capastrami was a real game-changer. It’s loaded with melted Swiss cheese, hot pastrami, a tangy Russian dressing, and their oh-so-good crunchy coleslaw.

Sal, Kris & Charlie’s Deli

Celebrating over 80 years of business, this family-owned deli is a must-go-to favorite sandwich shop located in Astoria, New York. They offer delicious deli sandwiches that will definitely satisfy your craving. Customers rave about the size and quality of these sandwiches and keep coming back for more. 

The Bomb Sandwich

It’s important to note that Sal, Kris & Charlie’s Deli does not make small sandwiches. You would have to eat one of their sandwiches in more than one sitting or share it with a couple of friends. The Bomb is one of their famous signature dishes, which weighs around 2 pounds. It consists of layers of thinly sliced ham, turkey, pastrami, roast beef, pepperoni, mortadella, American cheese, mild provolone cheese, lettuce, onions, sweet and hot peppers, tomato, and your choice of olive oil and vinegar, mustard, mayonnaise, or all three. The price is $19 and it is worth every penny.

Panera Bread

Panera Bread is a bakery café with over 2,000 locations. In addition to offering freshly baked bread, they also have a wide variety of sandwiches, pasta, pizzas, and more. Furthermore, Panera Bread also supports the community by donating about $100 million of unsold baked goods and bread annually to organizations that need assistance.

Sandwiches and More

Finally, their menu features a wide variety of delicious sandwiches, such as the Chicken Bacon Rancher. On a black pepper focaccia, you will bite into succulent grilled chicken, aged white cheddar, applewood smoked bacon and ranch sauce. There are also vegetarian-friendly sandwiches like the Toasted Garden Caprese. Not only is Panera Bread’s food tasty, but they are also nutritious, making them an excellent choice for those who are health conscious.

In conclusion, Subway used to be my go-to sandwich spot — but these 8 alternatives are way better with great taste and affordable options to choose from.

Big Chicken

Founded in October 2018 by retired basketball star Shaquille O’Neal, this fast-casual restaurant chain serves delectable Louisiana-style fried chicken sandwiches. There are a few locations that also serve hard liquor, wine, and craft beers. Furthermore, their chickens are not raised with any hormones or antibiotics.

What To Try

The Original: Your choice of crispy or grilled chicken with Big Chicken sauce and pickles served on a brioche bun. Price: $8.99 each. The staff are very friendly, and the restaurant is spotless. 

KFC

Founded in March 1930 by Colonel Harland Sanders, he began selling fried chicken from a roadside restaurant during the Great Depression. KFC is known for its iconic secret blend of 11 herbs and spices. As of 2024, there are 30,000 locations worldwide. KFC continues to attract customers with its affordable prices and convenient locations.

What To Try

The 10-piece Feast is one of my favorites to get because it’s enough for the whole family, and it has a variety of items. You can choose between 10 pieces of chicken available in the Original recipe, Kentucky grilled, or extra crispy. Furthermore, it comes with gravy, a large coleslaw, 2 large mashed potatoes, a beverage bucket, four biscuits, and four cookies, all for $30.00.

Buffalo Wings and Rings

Founded in 1984, Buffalo Wings and Rings has 80 locations in the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. Restaurant Business magazine named it number one on its Future 50 list of growing restaurant chains in 2008. 

What To Try 

Buffalo Chicken Sandwich: A crispy chicken fillet tossed in Buffalo sauce, pickles, fried onion slivers, and lettuce served with your choice of ranch or bleu cheese and topped with a chicken wing. It comes with French fries and homemade coleslaw. All for $6.29.

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen

Founded in June 1972 with 3,705 locations as of 2021, this fast food chain restaurant is known for its delicious fried chicken. The batter is full of flavor and crispy. There are a variety of options to choose from that will satisfy your fried chicken craving.

What To Try

While their chicken sandwiches are a must-have, their chicken tenders are a real hit. They are marinated and then fried with Louisiana seasonings and herbs and include 4 dipping sauces. I really enjoy the bayou buffalo sauce and blackened ranch sauce. You can pick up 12 handcrafted chicken tenders for $31.19.

Harold’s Chicken Shack

Harold’s Chicken Shack was founded by an African American named Harold Pierce in June 1950. The chain operates mainly in the Black communities in Chicago; however, there are additional locations in Los Angeles, Phoenix, Arizona, California, and Houston, Texas.

What To Try

If you’re looking for an affordable lunch, the chicken sandwich includes lettuce, pickles, and mayonnaise and only costs $10. Another favorite to try is the lemon pepper wings with a side of mild sauce. The sauce is really delicious and has a slightly tangy, sweet, spicy flavor.

Zaxby’s

Established in 1990 with over 900 locations across the United States, Zaxby’s specializes in sandwiches, chicken fingers, and wings. Zaxby’s has become popular for its quick and delicious chicken meals at affordable prices.

What to Try

If you are looking for a light meal, you should try the House Zalad Boxed Lunch. It comes with red cabbage, mixed greens, carrots, fried or grilled chicken, fried onions, cucumbers, tomatoes, cheddar Jack cheese, and your choice of dressing. Served with a chocolate chip cookie and Texas toast, all for $8.99. I would take their House Zalad over Chick-fil-A’s Cobb salad any day.

Bojangles’ Famous Chicken ‘n Biscuits

Founded in 1977, Bojangles’ Famous Chicken ‘n Biscuits has over 800 locations. The chain specializes in its signature Cajun-style fried chicken that has unique flavors and crispy skin, making it a popular choice for those who enjoy a bit of spice.

What To Try

Crunchy, juicy, and oh-so-delicious! In addition, biscuit sandwiches are popular breakfast items, and for lunch or dinner, the bone-in fried chicken is a real hit. Add a side dish of Cajun-seasoned pinto beans, dirty rice, or coleslaw to finish off this meal.

Church’s Texas Chicken

Church’s Texas Chicken was founded in 1952 and has more than 1500 locations. It started as a single walk-up restaurant that only served fried chicken. A roll and two pieces of chicken cost 49 cents. In 1955, Church’s Chicken expanded their menu and included fries and jalapeños.

What To Try

When life gives you fried chicken, make it finger-lickin’ good. Their menu features a variety of fried chicken options that include boneless wings, chicken tenders, sandwiches, wraps, and spicy chicken. Enjoy your fried chicken with a delicious, flaky honey-butter biscuit and flavorful side dishes like coleslaw, gravy, Wild West rice, or jalapeno bombers.

Finally, these 8 fried chicken spots that are better and cheaper than Chick-fil-A are well worth investigating to satisfy your fried chicken craving.

If you are looking for a gorgeous new dining set, you should consider going to Whole Foods Market. You can pick up a stunning new set between $179 and $732, whereas one at Costco can cost between $500 and $8000. You can save a fortune.

Fruits and vegetables have a short life span, so it would be better to buy these items at Whole Foods Market. But unless you have a few meals worked out for a 20 lb bag of potatoes from Costco, you will be more likely to waste some of them.
