For many years, my family basically called Chipotle our second home. We went there almost every weekend, and we always ordered something different. However, over the last several years, the restaurant has been in the news more often than they’d probably like. Recent news about disease outbreaks and low employee morale have made it so that my standing as a Chipotle fan has greatly diminished.

The restaurant has also made many changes over the years, and many of them don’t sit well with me or my family. Some of the changes have to do with portion sizes and prices, while others are related to the health aspect of their food. Chipotle has also made some changes when it comes to its employees, making it a place where I would not want my kids to work. Here’s a list of six aspects of Chipotle that may change your mind about visiting the restaurant chain in the future.

Change: The Portion Sizes Seem to be Getting Smaller

Back when I was a young Chipotle fan, I went there because they offered huge portion sizes. I could ask for a burrito bowl and feel like I’d be full for a month. However, that seems to be changing over time. In an effort to save money, it appears that Chipotle’s leadership is instructing employees to provide smaller portions. At best, the portions are highly varied so that you never know what you’re going to get. Don’t believe me? Just look at the facts…

Caught Giving Smaller Portions

A few years ago, it became a TikTok trend to call out when Chipotle was giving smaller portion sizes. The company ignored the negative publicity for a while until a guy named Zachary Fadem decided to put them to the test. He went to eight different Chipotle restaurants and ordered a total of 75 burrito bowls. When he compared them all, it was clear that the contents were varied, some as much as 33%. After those results were made public, the CEO looked into the issue and confirmed the shortages. He vowed that all employees would be properly trained and that equal portions would be provided. But were they?

Change: Prices are Increasing

If you haven’t felt it yet, you will soon. The prices at Chipotle are going to increase. Much of the reason is related to the employees. Whether it’s because the company wants to attract more workers or because of minimum wage increases across the nation, they are paying employees more than ever before. However, unlike many other companies that shift funds across their organization to increase wages, Chipotle is getting that money for its employees by charging you more to eat there.

You Will See Price Increases

You may be a Chipotle fan now, but you may not be for long. Especially if you live in places like California. Wages there are increasing by as much as 20% in many places. As a result, Chipotle raised prices on menu items by 6-7%. That seems like a small number, but it can quickly add up, and you may decide to go elsewhere. Hopefully, the price hikes will end here.

Change: They Did Something to Attract Disease

This one is not a change that Chipotle likely did on purpose, but the restaurant has a problem with attracting disease, rats, and other unsavory conditions that make it hard to choose them and not a competitor. Let’s start with the disease. Throughout the years 2015-2018, the company had been linked to various food-borne illnesses, including E. coli, Norovirus, and Salmonella. Apparently, the diseases affected more than 1,000 people. At one point, the Justice Department was even involved. It’s hoped that the chain has some control over this issue, but anything is possible.

They Also Attracted Rats

Disease is one thing, but when you also add rats to the equation, you know you’re in trouble. Back in 2020, a Chipotle restaurant in New York found that there was a major rat infestation. It was so bad that the rats chewed through computer wires, making it impossible for the restaurant to take orders. Granted, that was one occasion, but if Chipotle has not yetmade the appropriate changes, then it could happen again.

Change: Violating Labor Laws

I was a big Chipotle fan until I started to pay attention to the news. I began to learn that the company wasn’t so nice to employees all of the time. One instance occurred in New York, where it was discovered that the company was causing havoc with employee shifts by making last-minute changes, making people work long hours, and violating regulations for sick pay. They were providing less sick pay than what the state required, and as a result, they were sued. However, that wasn’t all…

Other Labor Issues

Chipotle has dealt with many other different labor issues over the years. Back in 2022, workers at a Chipotle location in Lansing became the first to unionize. After that, Chipotle denied them a raise because they said they didn’t qualify due to being a union. The company has also had some questionable hiring practices over the years, including hiring and firing mass amounts of illegal workers, and there have also been cases where they’ve wrongfully terminated employees. It’s a lot to soak in, and it may turn you off from the restaurants.

Change: They’re Going to Start Using Robots

Another recent change that was announced at Chipotle is that they plan to start using AI and robots to prepare some of their food. Specifically, they’re developing two new robots, which they call Chippy and Autocado. The Autocado robot is used to cut and peel avocados. Meanwhile, Chippy is being used for procuring tortilla chips. The robots are being tested in California restaurants, and if they’re successful, they’ll be rolled out to other restaurants.

Why This Is Bad

If you’re a Chipotle fan but you also like the human touch when you order your food, then you may be turned off. It’s one thing to be efficient with AI, but there’s the potential for it to get out of hand. At some point, the workforce could be replaced by robots. Chipotle has already had issues with following employment guidelines. Replacing employees could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back for the organization.

Change: They’re Not Doing a Lot to Make the Food Healthier

Chipotle is changing a lot of things. However, one aspect of the business that it still needs to work on updating is the healthiness of its food. While there are some healthy options, many of their offerings are loaded with fat, calories, and salt. For instance, their carnitas burrito has over 900 calories, close to 50 grams of fat, and 94 grams of carbs. This is just one of the meals of which you should beware.

Other Unhealthy Options

Although the ingredients may seem light and fresh, you should look at the nutritional information before ordering at Chipotle. The carnitas bowl is also loaded with calories. Especially if you add on cheese, sour cream, and guacamole, so be careful. You should also be cautious when ordering chips, as even a small portion can contain 420 mg of sodium. To put that into comparison, medical experts recommend you only have 2,300 milligrams of sodium in an entire day, so eat carefully.

This Is Why McDonald’s Is the Perfect First Job for Your High-Schooler https://www.momswhothink.com/this-is-why-mcdonalds-is-the-perfect-first-job-for-your-high-schooler/ https://www.momswhothink.com/this-is-why-mcdonalds-is-the-perfect-first-job-for-your-high-schooler/#respond Wed, 12 Mar 2025 18:10:58 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=268499&preview=true&preview_id=268499 The post This Is Why McDonald’s Is the Perfect First Job for Your High-Schooler appeared first on Moms Who Think.

If your teen is looking for the opportunity to make a little money, then you may consider pointing him or her in the direction of the nearest Golden Arches because McDonald’s is the perfect first job.

It may not seem like a glamorous career, but a job at McDonald’s can provide your teen with many important life lessons, ranging from how to follow detailed procedures to providing a chance to network with other teens who are serious about their future. There’s a lot your teen can learn in a job in fast food, and this list will prove the point.

Real Advice From Real Employees

Don’t believe that McDonald’s is the perfect first job for a high-schooler? If you need more reassurance, get it from the folks who actually worked at McDonalds as their first job. Throughout this list, we will add stories from actual people who recommend going to the place with the golden arches as a debut to the working world.

The Hours are Flexible

One of the reasons why McDonald’s is the perfect first job is because the hours are flexible. That’s what a former employee said. Flexibility is good for a first job, especially for teens who have a lot to deal with at school. They’ll get work experience while learning so they’re prepared for adulthood.

McDonald’s Wants to be Your First Job

If you want reassurance that McDonald’s is a great first job, then just ask the company. According to them, they are “committed to being America’s best first job.” They want to create an environment where teens can learn and build skills that they can use later in life. They even have an “Archways to Opportunity” program that helps teens now and in the future.

McDonald’s Offers Pay In Multiple Ways

The pay at McDonald’s won’t make your teen rich, but it’s enough for some spending and saving money. In addition to the hourly pay, the company will also provide compensation via long and short-term incentives, 401k plans, and other great benefits that will set your teen up for the future.

Time Off Programs

Like many companies, McDonald’s also offers paid time off. They don’t want to overwork teens. Paid days are providedover the course of the year and teens can take them at almost any time. This is important if your child has a school field trip or other commitments.

Employee Rewards

The company also provides rewards for exceptional employees. When your teen meets certain requirements or thresholds at McDonald’s, they can get a certificate or gift. This is a great way to teach your teen that if they work hard, there is always a reward at the end of the road.

Tuition Assistance

If your teen is planning to go to college after high school, then McDonald’s is the place to be. They have a great tuition assistance program where teens can earn money for higher education. Plus, there could be the chance for your young adult to go to school while working so they can earn money for books and admissions.

You’ll Learn Many Soft Skills

According to Quora user Paige Shiffler, McDonald’s is the perfect first job because you can learn many skills that aren’t taught in school. She says that after working at McDonald’s for four months, she has developed many skills, including how to communicate with others, multi-task, and be more productive.

Learn How to Be a Team Player

One of the most important soft skills you’ll learn as a teen at McDonald’s is how to be a team player. This is an invaluable skill that will help your teen in any job they get in the future. A person needs to know how to work with others, and they’ll get the chance at McDonalds.

The Work is Physical

Another Quora user named George Geal-Killy says that the work at McDonald’s is very physical. There will be a lot of moving around from station to station. Plus, there will be some lifting and moving of objects. This is great, especially if your teen has a more sedentary lifestyle at home. Physical activity is good for the body and for mental well being.

The Work Isn’t Too Hard

According to Quora user Carrie, while teens will be busy at McDonald’s, the work is not so hard that they’ll be exasperated at the end of the day. They will receive training and advice as they go so that they can get the hang of the work.

You Learn How to Deal With People

McDonald’s is a great job, especially if your teen will be taking orders or working the drive-thru window. It’s a chance to meet new people and experience different types of customers. Some customers will be easy while others will be more challenging. It’s a great chance to create your own customer service style.

You Can Get Real-Life Feedback

McDonald’s is the perfect first job because your teen will learn how to be the best employee they can be. Encourage your teen to ask their manager for feedback about the work they’re doing. Then, implement that feedback during the next shift. Teens can learn about being a good employee all day long, but nothing matches real-life feedback.

There Could Be Room For Advancement

Many people take a job at McDonald’s as an entry-level job. Some will work there for a few months or years and then move on. However, there’s also the chance that your teen could make McDonald’s into a career. Eager employees could become a manager and move up from there.

Learn to Retain Information

If you’re taking orders at McDonald’s, you may be required to remember a lot of information at once. You need to get the order right so you can impress the customer and your management. By learning to memorize information, your teen will excel in school and future jobs.

The Ability to Troubleshoot

Erik, a manager at McDonald’s since 2008 commented on Quora. He said that a lot of the job will entail handling customer’s problems. That’s not always a bad thing. Problems present an opportunity to troubleshoot. The ability to troubleshoot is a skill that not all people have, so it could be a good skill to have in the future.

Your Teen Could Make Connections

By getting a job at McDonald’s, your teen could learn quickly about the value of connections. They never know if the person they’re standing next to at the fry station could be a future hiring-manager at a company they want to work at later in life.

Learn About Being Punctual

By getting a job at McDonald’s, your teen will also learn the importance of punctuality and getting to places on time. If they’re late too often, they’ll likely get in trouble. This is a good lesson to learn before moving on to other jobs.

They’ll Have Something for Their Resume

When your teen works at McDonald’s, they’ll get something more valuable than straight A’s. They’ll get something to put on their resume as job experience. Many adults don’t have anything on their resume, but your teen will. It can go a long way when they start looking for other jobs.

You’ll Learn to Follow Procedures

The final reason why McDonald’s is the perfect first job is that your teen will learn how to follow a procedure at work. As Jessica Ann Murray on Quora says, you’ll need to “directly follow correct procedures.” Everything will need to be done in a certain way, and it will teach your teen how to follow directions. This is important for life at home and at work.

My Family Used to Love Hunt Brother’s Pizza, But These 8 Pie Shops Are Better https://www.momswhothink.com/i-used-to-love-hunt-brothers-pizza-but-these-pie-shops-are-better/ https://www.momswhothink.com/i-used-to-love-hunt-brothers-pizza-but-these-pie-shops-are-better/#respond Wed, 12 Mar 2025 15:32:18 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=266772&preview=true&preview_id=266772 The post My Family Used to Love Hunt Brother’s Pizza, But These 8 Pie Shops Are Better appeared first on Moms Who Think.

My family and I used to love Hunt Brother’s Pizza. In fact, that is the only place we would go to week after week. Don’t get me wrong, we still like it. However, the kids have started asking for something more, so we have begun to expand our horizons and we’re finding other restaurants that hit the spot just a bit more. If you feel the same, then you’re in luck. We have a list of pie shops that will rock your world, and one of them may become your new favorite.

This list has eight pizza places that you should consider. We’ll tell you why each one gives Hunt Brothers a run for its money by telling you what sets them apart and sharing customer reviews from Yelp. Check out the list and decide for yourself.

Pizza Hut

Although I love Hunt Brother’s Pizza and I eat there often, Pizza Hut has really kicked up their game over the last several years. The brand is widely considered to be better than Hunt Brother’s because the Hut has a larger variety. They have many of the same pizzas, but Pizza Hut also has a large selection of wings, pasta, and sides. It’s also the more well-known brand due to its extensive advertising.

What Customers Love About Pizza Hut

Customers have a lot to say about Pizza Hut, especially when compared to Hunt’s Pizza. When you read reviews about Pizza Hut, you see things on Yelp like, “I will definitely be ordering just wings next time because they were yummy!” and that the “pizza is on point each and every time.
Customer service is also 5 stars.” Clearly, the customers like what they eat.

California Pizza Kitchen

While many pizza chains may seem similar, California Pizza Kitchen it truly unique. The brand separates itself from places like Hunt’s Pizza by having a variety of unique ingredients, including goat cheese, artichokes, and more. My family loves to try something different each time. In addition, the environment and ambiance in each restaurant is above par. This restaurant screams California and people like that.

What Customers Love About California Pizza

Reviews for California Pizza Kitchen include phrases like, “the service is great, even for take away” and that it’s “very delicious.” Another customer said he went there with his wife. They were seated quickly, the waitress was nice, and the food was delicious. He said, “If l could give them more stars, l would, but 5 is the max.”

MOD Pizza

One pizza place that really sets itself apart from Hunt Brother’s Pizza is Mod Pizza. This is the place where you can go in and build your own pie from the ground up. You can choose the crust, cheese, size, toppings, and more. While Hunt Brothers has some customization options, it’s nothing like Mod. In addition, MOD also has incredible flavors, and the staff is top-notch, so you’ll be very satisfied.

What Customers Love About MOD Pizza

You’re generally always going to see positive reviews for MOD. Comments include things like how it’s “one of the best fire brick oven pizzas you can get in a restaurant for the best price.” Other comments mention the tasty ingredients, including the veggies. There are also rave reviews about some of the side dishes, including the cheesy garlic bread.

Round Table Pizza

If you’re lucky enough to have a Round Table Pizza in your area, then you likely know how tasty this place can be. The restaurant was founded on the idea of a family sitting around a table eating a communal meal, and you get the same greatvibe today. People often rate this place as a bit better than Domino’s and Hunt Brothers. The great thing about Round Table Pizza is that they often reveal new specialty pizzas, so there’s always something new to enjoy.

What Customers Love About Round Table Pizza

Round Table Pizza is primarily a California pizza place, and the locals there often choose between going here and California Pizza Kitchen. Customer reviews for Round Table are typically great. As one reviewer put it, “It was all worth it and we really enjoyed scarfing this feast down!” Another reviewer said “Amazing pizza, service, and prices.” I agree. That’s why my family and I often go here for pizza nights.

CiCi’s Pizza

CiCi’s Pizza is becoming one of the most popular pizza buffets on the planet, which is why, even if you love Hunt Brother’s Pizza, you may find yourself making a change. The buffet is really what sets this place apart. You can get a plate and eat exactly what you want in the portion sizes you desire. When people want a different type of dining environment, they often choose CiCi’s.

What Customers Love About CiCi’s Pizza

Many customers rave about their experiences at CiCi’s Pizza. Customer reviews often reference the buffet variety, the friendly staff, and the great prices. One reviewer said, “Go there, it’s verrrry worth it.” Another customer said, “The food here is ALWAYS fresh!” It’s hard to argue with that. Come to CiCi’s and see for yourself.

Sbarro

Another pizza place that provides a different type of atmosphere is Sbarro. It’s the pizza place that you see in the mall and the airport, and that’s what makes it so unique, especially when compared to Hunt Brother’s. You can get Sbarro on the go and it’s always delicious. The restaurant also has a good variety of choices for a small place, and that just adds to its charm.

What Customers Love About Sbarro

You’re going to have to look far and wide to find someone who doesn’t like Sbarro. If you need proof, just look at the customer reviews. Here’s one review that covers it all: “The staff was very friendly, the service was great, and most importantly the pizza tasted very fresh.” Another review: “It is quick and delicious.” Enough said?

Hungry Howie’s

If you love Hunt Brother’s Pizza but you’re looking for something new, consider Hungry Howie’s. The big perk about Howie’s that you won’t find at Hunt’s or many other pizza places is their variety of flavored crusts. They have various flavors, and they add a lot to the flavor profile of the pizza. This is also an affordable option that you won’t regret. Best of all, the brand is expanding across the country, so you’re likely to have a restaurant near you soon.

What Customers Love About Hungry Howie’s

Customers who love Hunt Brother’s Pizza also really enjoy Hungry Howie’s. This is one Yelp review that basically sums it all up: “The pizza, the sauce, the cheese, the crust … what is there not to love.” Another quote says “Wow!! Best pizza I’ve had in years.” It’s hard to argue with that.

Papa John’s

Many people who love Hunt Brother’s Pizza also switch between them and Papa John’s. Many folks stick with Papa John’s due to the nostalgia factor. They’ve been eating it for years, so it’s their go-to. Papa John’s is famous for its fresh ingredients, which many perceive to be better quality pizza.

What Customers Love About Papa John’s

To learn why people like Papa John’s so much, you just need to look at the customer feedback. One comment on Yelp says, “Delivered on time. Great tasting. I’m so relieved I found a place I can trust.” That’s pretty great. Another commenter said, “Papa Johns is good pizza.” That says all you need to know.

Mandarin Orange Chicken

One of the first Trader Joe’s Meals that you can prepare for your family is a delicious mandarin orange chicken meal. As of this writing, the actual chicken is close to $5 per bag. After that, you can add rice and stir fry vegetables, and you’ll have a full meal for under $20. You can likely also add a beverage and still stay below your budget threshold.

Cauliflower Gnocchi

Head to Trader Joe’s and get a bag of cauliflower gnocchi when you’re looking for something new for dinner. You can get a bag for under $5. You can add the gnocchi to soups or pasta along with other inexpensive ingredients. Plus, the gnocchi you get at Trader Joe’s is 75% cauliflower, so it’s an affordable and healthy meal.

Chicken Soup Meal

You can make many different soups for less when you shop at Trader Joe’s. One of the best meals involves the company’s trademark steamed chicken soup dumplings. You can get them for around $5. You can add the dumplings to a soup or justpop them in the microwave and enjoy them as they are. Either way, your family won’t regret it.

Chicken Tikka Masala

Trader Joe’s has many boxed meals that are above and beyond what you’ll find at retailers like Walmart. Case in point, head to the freezer section and check out the amazing chicken tikka masala. You’ll often find it for around $5. Cook up this chicken and you’ll find that it’s incredibly tender and creamy, especially with the basmati rice. If you want to add a little more to the meal, get some pitas to dip in.

Eggs for Breakfast

These days, it’s hard to find eggs for a good price. However, Trader Joe’s still has a pretty good price for a dozen cage-free white eggs. You can get them for a fraction of the cost of the other places. Then, you can get some sausage or pancakes and stay well below your $20 total. You can make breakfast for the whole family for that.

Cascatelli Pasta Meal

Head to Trader Joe’s, and you can still get a whole 16-ounce bag of organic cavatelli pasta for under $5. Serve this on a plate, and you’ll be amazed at the unique texture that you’ll get with each fulfilling bite. The pasta also holds the sauce remarkably well, so you’ll love dinner. Pair this dish with some garlic bread and your family will be ranting and raving.

Shawarma Chicken Thigh Meal

You can make family dinner even easier by heading to Trader Joe’s and laying down close to $7 per pound for fully marinated shawarma chicken thighs. They are always juicy and tender. You won’t even believe it. Many people choose to serve this chicken delicacy with yellow rice, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, and pitas. If you’re smart, you can get everything for under $20.

Crispy Chicken Parmesan

You can make a very tasty chicken parmesan dish for cheap at Trader Joe’s. All you need is the package of chicken, bruschetta sauce, mozzarella, and Genova pesto. Depending on costs, this one may verge slightly over $20, but it’s worth it. Defrost the chicken first, and then top it off with the mozzarella and bruschetta sauce. Chances are you’ll be coming back for more.

Shrimp Tacos

To make this delicious and affordable dish, start with Trader Joe’s famous uncooked Argentinian red shrimp. You can get it for cheap. Also, purchase tortillas, coleslaw, and pineapple sauce. This is an inexpensive dish that can feed your whole family. The bag of shrimp is good for multiple tacos.

Pork Fried Rice

For this tasty pork fried rice dish, you’ll need eggs, pork belly, vegetable fried rice, and soyaki. If you already have eggs at home then you can surely get this meal for under $20. Cook it all together and you’ll have a full meal for the family. If you don’t love pork belly, then you can substitute any protein and make it a great meal.

Chicken Tortellini Soup

Another great soup option is the chicken tortellini soup. It’s affordable and filling for the whole family. To make it, head to Trader Joe’s and pick up chicken tenders, chicken broth, mirepoix, and cheese-filled tortellini. Most of the recipe includes adding the ingredients in a bowl and season it. You can also make this into a vegetarian dish by leaving out the chicken and using chickpeas as the protein.

Hash Brown Eggs Benedict

There are also many affordable meals that you can get for breakfast at Trader Joe’s. You can make a classy hash brown eggs Benedict by purchasing hash browns, smoked salmon, and avocado. If you don’t have eggs at home, you can get those as well, and you should stay below your $20 budget. If you don’t like the eggs, you can substitute potato latkes or waffles instead.

Breakfast Sausage and Potato Egg Hash

There are other ways to get your hash brown fix at Trader Joe’s for less than $20. This one is quite simple. Go to the store and fill your cart with sharp cheddar, breakfast sausage, eggs, and roasted potatoes with peppers and onions. Once again, you can turn this into a vegetarian dish by swapping out the sausage and instead using plant-based sausage.

Korean-Inspired Short Rib Rice Bowls

For something a big more exotic, consider this tasty Korean-inspired dish that will feed your entire family for cheap. You’ll need to be a bit careful to stay within your budget, but you can do it. To do so, load your cart with Korean-style beef short ribs, rice, baby bok chop, and Kimchi. If you like the idea but want to try something different, then substitute shrimp tempura or teriyaki chicken instead.

Baked Meatball Sandwiches

For something a bit different, consider the baked meatball sandwiches that you can buy and prepare for under $20. For the best results, make them with bread & butter pickle chips, Italian-style cooked meatballs, and Trader Joe’s magnifisauce, and put it all between two brioche buns. Make sure to drizzle the bubs in olive oil for a great taste. If it’s within your taste, then top the meal off with garlic mustard aioli.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, you must be careful when it comes to screen time for kids, especially babies and toddlers. The doctors recommend that children between ages 0-1.5 years never have screen time and that kids age 1.5 to 2 years have less than an hour of screen time. Any more than that, and you could cause damage to their young eyes.

Average Screen Time for Teens

Statistics show that most teens experience about 7.5 hours of screen time every day. Be watchful if your teen is in front of screens for too long. As time goes on, more schools are allowing kids to use laptops in school, so keep that in mind. When they get back from school, instead of letting them sit in front of the TV to play video games, try to get them to go outside or try a different hobby.

Be A Good Role Model

According to research, the average American spends just over seven hours looking at a screen over the course of the day. Granted, that may include time looking at a computer while at work. With that said, be careful about what you do at home. If you get home from work and sit in front of the TV, your kids will likely do the same. If you want them to spend less time in front of the TV, do something different with them, and they’ll form good habits.

Is Your Infant Using Your Smartphone?

One of the most startling facts about screen time for kids is that almost 49% of very small children from ages 0-2 spend some time interacting with smart phones. That could include when you’re holding your phone while holding them. Or it could be time in front of the TV. Just be careful. Young eyes could get hurt due to too much screen time.

The Average Teen Plays A Lot of Games

Another startling statistic about screen time is that the average teen spends 112.8 daily minutes playing video games. While some video games can be educational and have other benefits, they’re not all helpful. Be mindful about how much time your teen is on a screen playing a game, and suggest other activities if it gets out of hand.

The Average Teen is Often on Social Media

While gaming is a problem, a bigger issue is social media. According to Statista, the average teen spends 4.8 hours on social media. Keep in mind that platforms like YouTube are also considered social media, but still, that’s a lot. It’s important that you watch your teens. Are they in their room for hours at a time? They could be on social media. While there are some educational benefits to social media, most of its is not beneficial, so be cautious.

Shocking Benefit: Improves Socialization

Believe it or not, there are some benefits to screen time. For instance, just because a child is staring at a screen, it doesn’t mean that they are necessarily sitting by themselves. There are many ways that your kids can go online and meet with other kids. They can play video games with others, become pen pals with other kids on social media (with parental supervision), and even video chat with family members. Just remember that caution is necessary when talking to strangers.

Shocking Benefit: Encourages Creativity

You may be shocked to learn that screen time can help with creativity as well. It makes sense the more you think about it. Older kids can use their creativity to create websites using apps like Canva. If your kids like playing video games, they likely get immersed in creating worlds in games like Minecraft and Railway Empire. You never know. The skills they learn now could turn into a career later in life.

Shocking Benefit: Enhances Critical Thinking

Screen time also has the ability to enhance critical thinking. According to experts at Common Sense Media, there’s a lot of educational content online. Kids could play puzzle games or online board games that challenge their minds. However, screen time should come in doses. It’s possible to have too much screen time, even if it’s educational.

Shocking Benefit: Develops Motor Skills

Another shocking benefit of screen time for kids is the chance to develop their motor skills. For starters, your kids could watch exercise videos on YouTube that could help them stay active and healthy. Many video game companies also have some equipment that requires the kids to move to play them, like the Wii and virtual reality systems. You’d be amazed at how much your kids get around while playing games.

Shocking Benefit: Gets Kids Ready for School

Everything is online these days, so it only makes sense that many educational resources would also require a screen. In addition to being fun, many of these activities could also prepare your kids for school. For instance, the kids can check out e-books about various subjects that they may learn later during the school year. There are also learning apps like ABC Mouse and Khan Academy Kids, which can do wonders for your kids.

Alarming Risk of Screen Time: Sleep Issues

There are many starting negative side effects when screen time for kids gets out of hand. One of them is that they may not sleep well at night. Most screens emit blue light, and it negatively affects the brain. Kids and adults who spend too much time in front of a screen may find that they wake up often overnight. You should also avoid looking at social media while in bed.

Alarming Risk of Screen Time: Tech Neck

It’s natural for kids and adults to bend over or sit with a poor posture when gaming. As a result, your kids may start to experience “tech neck,” which is when someone sits with their neck and shoulders bent. Over time, your child may start to experience pain and potentially even long-term damage.

Alarming Risk of Screen Time: Cognitive Decline

While there are some opportunities for cognitive improvement due to smart screen use, in many cases, spending too much time on a screen is more commonly associated with cognitive decline, especially when it comes to smartphone usage. In a recent study, many participants reported on their cell phone usage, and they were tested. The results weren’t great. You can allow your child to have friends online, but be cautious about those friends and how much time your kids spend with them.

Alarming Risk of Screen Time: Behavior Issues

Be watchful if your children spend a lot of time playing video games. They likely love them because winning levels and beating bad guys cause the brain to release dopamine. It feels good, and they like it. However, once they’re playing, the dopamine release stops, and as a result, your children can become more irritable and even depressed.

Once My Favorite Grocery Stores, These 6 Factors Made Me Stop Going to Whole Foods https://www.momswhothink.com/once-my-favorite-grocery-stores-these-factors-made-me-stop-going-to-whole-foods/ https://www.momswhothink.com/once-my-favorite-grocery-stores-these-factors-made-me-stop-going-to-whole-foods/#respond Sat, 08 Mar 2025 00:33:48 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=267223&preview=true&preview_id=267223 The post Once My Favorite Grocery Stores, These 6 Factors Made Me Stop Going to Whole Foods appeared first on Moms Who Think.

For many years, Whole Foods was one of my go-to grocery stores. I used to love walking down the aisles and checking out all the tasty organic foods. Yes, it was expensive, but to me, the selection was worth it. However, over time, I’ve started to read and learn more about how the supermarket operates, and I’ve decided that I may want to stop going to Whole Foods.

There are many reasons for this decision. There’s the cost, the selection, and the various controversies over the years. I’ve also found that there are many more alternative stores to try instead. Check out this list of reasons why I decided to shop elsewhere. It may change your mind as well.

Factor 1: Whole Foods Is Ridiculously Expensive

The first reason why I decided to stop going to Whole Foods is because many of the items in the store are simply too expensive. Things might change in the future, but for now, we’re still facing high prices at stores around the country, so it’s simply not worth going somewhere that will put us in debt. They don’t mockingly call this store “Whole Paycheck” for no reason. You could go in there for your weekly groceries and spend twice as much as you would at Walmart or other similar stores.

A Sampling of the High Prices

You may think that we’re kidding, but this chain really has some of the craziest prices. For instance, you may go in for a six-inch decorated cake. We don’t blame you. It’s probably delicious, but many of them cost upwards of $25. They have olive oil that you can buy for $40. The chain does sell some tasty food, like a rack of lamb. However, it will cost you at least $23 per pound. Certain types of maple syrup will cost over $15. Don’t forget about the chanterelle mushrooms that are over $20 per pound. These are just a few examples, but you can see what we mean.

Factor 2: The Brand Has Had Many Controversies

Many people will claim that Whole Foods is one of the best supermarkets ever created, but the company has had a fair share of controversies over the years. Many of the controversies involve overpriced items, like in 2015, when the store tried to sell $6 asparagus water that was basically just a couple of pieces of asparagus in a water bottle. Then, in 2014, they sold yogurt that they claimed was super healthy. However, after a class action lawsuit, it was revealed that it had more sugar than was originally reported.

Other Whole Foods Controversies

There have been other controversies that have made me stop going to Whole Foods. Back in 2016, the Food and Drug Administration found that the drinking water sold at the store had higher levels of arsenic than was allowed. Arsenic is a toxin. As a result, much of the water was recalled, so customers didn’t buy and drink the dangerous water. Finally, in 2014, the chain was accused of trying to use rabbit meat in many of their products. The animal rights folks went at them, and the program was paused. This is a lot of bad news for a single grocery store chain.

Factor 3: The Employees Could Be Treated Better

It’s an unfortunate fact that employees are not always treated as well as they should be at most grocery store chains, but Whole Foods has been in hot water in this regard for a long time. Much of the more recent turmoil has occurred after Amazon.com took control of Whole Foods several years ago. Many of the employees tried to unionize, but the company was opposed to it. Since then, employees have had more success trying to unionize. That’s good, but this issue is only one of the ways that employees feel mistreated at Whole Foods.

Whole Foods Employees Feel Shortchanged

I know that companies can do what they want with their employees, but many of the things that have happened at Whole Foods after Amazon took over are a bit questionable. They started by taking medical benefits from part-time employees. The company also reduced the typical paid 15-minute breaks down to 10 minutes. Many customer service and warehouse workers also used to have stock incentives, but those were taken away as well. These are not reasons to completelyboycott the company, but they don’t help customers feel good when they go into a store.

Factor 4: You Can Shop Elsewhere For Similar Items

Many people used to flock to Whole Foods because they thought it was the only place to get organic or healthy food. For many years, that was the case. People were willing to spend more money just to get something different. That is no longer the case. Whole Foods is no longer the only game in town. Now, you can get your organic food at many other mainstream grocery chains, so Whole Foods is losing business.

Where to Get Organic Food

I decided to stop going to Whole Foods and get my organic food elsewhere. The more I researched, the more places I found. For starters, Sprouts Farmers Market is a great place to buy healthy food, and they have reasonable prices. There is also Trader Joe’s, where you can find a huge variety of options, including food exclusives that you won’t find anywhere else. Even stores like Kroger and Aldi have options, and you’ll probably spend less money along the way. If you’re really on a budget, head to Costco instead of Whole Foods.

Factor 5: They Don’t Sell as Much as Other Stores

In addition to there being other stores where you can get organic food, the other reason why I decided to stop going to Whole Foods is because they simply don’t have as many items as many other places. Yes, Whole Foods has plenty of healthy and organic options, but you can’t really do all of your weekly shopping there. That means that you typically need to make multiple trips, and that’s not always fun. Plus, it’s expensive.

Whole Foods Has Less

There are many items that you won’t find at Whole Foods. Part of the reason for that is because, in an effort to stay healthy, many ingredients are banned. The banned items include things like artificial colorings, aspartame, high-fructose corn syrup, and others. Yes, it’s good to limit these items in your diet, but if you have kids like me, then you’ll find that they don’t always want to eat organic food, so you find that you need to shop at a second store. It’s not always worth it.

Factor 6: Whole Foods May Not Be Around Forever

A final reason why I decided to stop going to Whole Foods is because, sooner than later, the chain may be completely wiped from the map. In 2022, the chain started closing stores, including one in Chicago, reportedly due to weak sales. Stores appear to be disappearing in regions around the country. When the one near me closes, I will be forced to look elsewhere for my needs.

Things Changed When Amazon Took Over

Some of the factors behind the fall of Whole Foods revolve around the fact that Amazon took over the company several years ago. Some people believe that Amazon is too commercial and that it takes the community-centric charm out of the equation. Only time will tell if Whole Foods will retain its popularity or if, one day, the supermarket chain may be gone.

These Foods Are Best for Kids Before and After School https://www.momswhothink.com/these-foods-are-best-for-kids-before-and-after-school/ https://www.momswhothink.com/these-foods-are-best-for-kids-before-and-after-school/#respond Thu, 06 Mar 2025 14:29:55 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=268256&preview=true&preview_id=268256 The post These Foods Are Best for Kids Before and After School appeared first on Moms Who Think.

If you have kids, you know that they’re always hungry, particularly after they get home from school. You need to be careful about what you feed them so they can grow big and strong. However, that’s not it. You also need to give them the right food in the morning so they can stay alert in school. It seems like a lot to remember, but don’t worry. We have a list of foods that are best for kids before and after school.

The items on this list are healthy and they’re filling, so you and your children will be satisfied. Try some or all of these items over the course of the month, and you’ll have a happy family.

Before School: Clementines

Our list of the foods that are best for kids before school starts with fresh fruit and a clementine is one of the best. According to doctors at UC San Francisco, these little fruits are great because they’re tasty, easy to peel, and they’llprovide a nice dose of vitamin C and fiber that will set your child up for success at school.

After School: Assorted Nuts

As for the foods that are best for kids after school, begin with a bowl of nuts. Your kids will likely come home from school while claiming that they’re starving. Instead of giving them candy or a bag of chips, go for nuts. Many varieties, including almonds, are very tasty and filling while providing your kids with a good dose of fiber and healthy fats.

Before School: Hard Boiled Eggs

You’ll do your kids a great service by providing them with eggs before breakfast. Eggs are packed with nutrients, including protein, vitamins B12, D, and more. They’ll keep your kids full and energized. If you’re rushed in the morning, consider giving your kids hard-boiled eggs. They can take them on the way to school and eat at their leisure.

After School: Fruit

Fruit is good in moderation, but there’s nothing wrong with providing some before and after school. When they get backfrom school, give them a whole piece of fruit, like a nectarine or peach, that is tasty without the extra sugar.

Before School: Sausage

You don’t want to fill your child up with sausage, but a small helping could be good for them. You’re giving your child protein, which is necessary for energy and strength throughout the day. Protein will also help grow and strengthen muscles, which is important for growing kids.

After School: Cheese

When your kids come into the house begging for food, consider a helping of cheese. According to Cheese.com, several varieties are healthy for kids, including mozzarella, which is typically made with low-fat milk. Swiss cheese is also great because it’s higher in protein.

Before School: Apples and Peanut Butter

Apples are healthy, and they’re a great source of fiber and vitamin C, which is essential for growing kids. Peanut butter is another great source of protein, so it’s a power-packed morning snack that will keep your kids full until lunch.

After School: Cottage Cheese

One of the snacks that is best for kids is cottage cheese. It is loaded with protein and lower in calories than many other types of cheese. You can add more flavor to cottage cheese with the addition of granola, maple syrup, or fresh berries.

Before School: Fruit Smoothie

Give your kids all the nutrients they need in one tasty package by giving them a fruit smoothie. There are many tasty options to consider, like a strawberry and watermelon. This is a great way to get your kids some fruit in the morning without the hassle.

After School: Yogurt

A great after-school snack is a nice bowl of yogurt. Find a flavor that they like, and they’ll enjoy every bite while getting plenty of vitamin D and protein. You can spice yogurt up a notch by adding some fruit. Just make sure not to make this healthy treat too sugary.

Before School: Berries

Many healthy berries can be a great morning snack. The goal is to keep the sugar to a limit, so go for strawberries, blackberries, and blueberries. Berries are high in antioxidants, fiber, and vitamin C. Add them to oatmeal to create a full meal.

After School: Beans

It may not always be the most luxurious meal, but beans can be very tasty and they’re very good for you. Don’t feel bad about getting canned beans. They are often low-sodium, and they’ll be packed with fiber and protein. Doctors recommend that kids get around 25 grams of fiber per day to be healthy, so feed them some beans.

Before School: Avocado

There are many ways to serve avocados. You can spread them out on toast, put them in a smoothie, or make them into a dip. Avocados are very good for heart health and they’re a great source of potassium, which regulates blood pressure.

After School: Sweet Potatoes

When you’re looking for the afternoon foods that are best for kids, try a sweet potato. All you have to do is poke holes in a sweet potato, microwave it for five minutes, let it cool, then scoop it onto your child’s plate and they’ll have a tasty and healthy meal.

Before School: A Glass of Milk

Need something to wash down all of these healthy foods? How about a glass of milk? Kids need milk because it provides the vitamin D and calcium necessary for strong and growing bones. Enjoy a glass of milk by itself or pour it into a healthier cereal, like whole grain Cheerios.

After School: Carrots and Celery

When your kids come into the house looking for an afternoon snack, offer them a bowl of carrots or celery. If they want a little more of a flavor punch, serve them with a side of hummus. It will be a tasty meal that won’t fill the kids up before dinnertime.

Healthy Eating Tip: Be A Role Model

Getting your kids to eat healthy before and after school won’t always be easy. A big tip is to be a role model when it comes to healthy eating. Don’t just tell your kids to eat the items on this list. Show them that you’re also willing to eat them. If you don’t do what you preach, the kids probably won’t either.

Healthy Eating Tip: Offer Variety

Another important tip to remember when it comes to healthy eating is to offer variety. Don’t just give carrots every afternoon or the kids will likely get sick of them. Likewise, don’t provide the same fruit smoothie every morning. Mix it up and your kids will be excited to eat healthy.

Tip For Busy Parents: Prepare the Night Before

There are ways that you can make life easier so you’re not so rushed in the morning. One tip is to get things ready the night before. Put the food out in containers if you can. No, you shouldn’t let milk sit out all night, but you can at least put the glass out so there’s one less thing to remember.

Tip For Busy Parents: Prepare Everything in Advance

Another tip for busy parents is to prepare snacks and meals in advance. On Sunday night, you could prepare a lot of the food and keep it in the refrigerator. Then, you can hand out servings every day of the week. Also, make sure that you keep your grocery list updated so you know that you have the food you need for the week.

Then there are fun outings that will get you out of the house, like checking out a local farmer’s market or going on a nature walk. Try some or all of these activities with your grandchildren. You won’t regret it!

Draw a Family Tree

The first of the grandparent-grandkid outings that you should consider is creating a family tree. This is an activity that you can do at home, so there won’t be any unnecessary costs. Imagine how fun it will be for a child to learn about his parents and the lives of his grandparents. This can even be a project that the child can show to their friends.

Make a Fort

A great experience for grandchildren and grandparents alike is building a fort. Whether you’re building it in the child’s backyard or as a place to play in the grandparent’s yard, it can be a lot of fun. Grandparents often have a lot of experience with building, so they can provide some great advice. A great way to save money while building a fort is to use materials from around the house, like blankets, pillows, and old furniture.

Go to the Library

A great way to pass some time with grandchildren is to head to the local library. This can often be a totally free adventure and it can be a blast. While at the library, grandparents can show off some of their favorite books and the grandchildren can do the same. You can also rent movies, read old newspapers, go online to child-friendly websites, and more.

Have a Movie Night

Our list of wonderful grandparent-grandkid outings continues with hosting a movie night. This is a great outing that you can have at your home. You can save money on the film by using a streaming service to which you already subscribe. Then you can find sales on popcorn and candy and have snacks during the show. Ask the kids which movie they want to watch and it will be a night they’ll always remember.

Go On a Walk

One of the fun and free activities that your grandchild will love is simply taking a walk. Take a stroll through the park or down the street. This is a great time to bond and ask your grandchild about their day. You can also use this as an opportunity to keep your eyes open for other businesses or eateries you could visit during your next outing.

Plant Flowers or Trees in the Park

You can have a great outing with your grandchild while also helping the planet by going into the park to plant some trees or plants. In addition to being fun, this is a great chance to improve the mental health of your grandchild. When they continue to visit the flower or tree they planted over time and see it grow, and they know they had a part in it, it will help their confidence.

Go on a Picnic

While you’re walking through the park, take a chance to enjoy a lovely picnic. Get a blanket, some food, and maybe a radio for some soft tunes, and you’ll have a great time. You don’t have to go overboard on food. Save money by purchasing some snacks at a dollar store and use a blanket that you already own. Use this time to talk about life, family, or whatever you want.

Build a Birdhouse

A fun activity to do in the garage or the backyard is to build a birdhouse with your grandchild. It doesn’t have to be an extensive project. Putting four walls, a floor, and a roof together will be enough. Then you can have fun painting the house. You can save money by purchasing a pre-made birdhouse kit or find lumber lying around the garage.

Play Mini Golf

One of the most enjoyable activities a child and grandparent can enjoy together is a rousing game of mini golf. You don’t have to take it too seriously. Go to a course and see how unique each hole is. You can keep score but remember that it’s just for fun. Mini golf courses can sometimes be expensive, so look for a coupon online to save some money.

Go to the Zoo

A nice grandchild-grandparent outing can include going to the zoo. There’s something so exciting about seeing the different exhibits and the exotic animals. You never know what you’re going to see and many zoos get new animals all of the time. Yes, the zoo can be costly, especially if you have multiple grandchildren, but there are often discounted days throughout the year. Check online. They can be a big help.

Go Bowling

If you’re looking for a bit of a thrill, make a date to go bowling. Remember that you’re just there to have fun, so don’t go overboard counting the score. Instead, just have fun together rolling the ball. Bowling costs can add up, so look online for coupons or certain hours where you can get a deal. Sometimes, you can save money by combining bowling with another activity, like the arcade.

Go Fishing

If you enjoy fishing, then taking a fishing trip can be one of the best grandparent-grandkid outings ever. Just imagine going out to the creek, casting your lines, and waiting for fish as you bond with your loved ones. Fishing is typically an inexpensive activity, especially if you already own the poles. Usually, you just have to spend a few dollars on some bait.

Go Swimming at the Pool

Going swimming at the local pool is one of the best ways to beat the heat and have fun with your loved ones. Bring your pool noodles and inflatables and you’ll have a blast for hours. If your subdivision has a local pool, you can often enjoy it for free. Either that or head out to the local creek.

Attend a Farmer’s Market

Another fun and free event is heading to the local farmer’s market when it comes to town. You and your grandchild can walk the aisles, trying samples and enjoying each other’s company. Pick up some candy when you see it and enjoy a sweet treat. Find some affordable ingredients and use them to cook dinner!

Bake Cookies

A fun and tasty way to enjoy a nice day is to bake cookies or other sweet treats together. This is one of the best grandparent-grandkid outings because you can teach your grandchild how to bake, and then afterward, you can enjoy your treats together. You can enjoy this outing for free if you already own the ingredients.

Folks with growing families often seek the safest family vehicle for their brood. Sure, large families will need an automobile that will get them from place to place while offering enough space and storage. However, the key for many will always be to get the necessary features to ensure the security of parents and young ones. The good news is that the auto industry is taking safety very seriously in 2025 and beyond. There are cars, trucks, and SUVs that take security and comfort to the next level.

On this list, we have seven different vehicles that fit the bill when it comes to safety. The list is ranked but that doesn’t necessarily mean one vehicle is better than the other. Not everyone will like the same type of vehicle. Some prefer cars, others trucks, and so on. Any of these fine automobiles will ensure your safety. Find the one you like best and consider giving it a spin.

#7 Acura Integra

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), a contender for the safest family vehicle is the 2024-25 Acura Integra. The Integra is a great vehicle. It offers style and comfort, but it has a modest price tag. The four-cylinder engine is powerful enough to get your kids from point A to point B without overspending on fuel.

What Makes it Safe?

According to the IIHS, there are several factors that make the Acura Integra safe. From front to back, the car is loaded with safety features, including high-powered LED headlights and reliable seatbelt reminders. The IIHS states that the front, rear, and sides of the vehicle are strong and will be reliable in the case of a collision. The car also has a solid breaking system.

The newer models also feature tire pressure monitoring systems, so you don’t have to stress during road trips. Other perks include automatic headlights, cross-traffic monitoring, and side curtain airbags.

#5 Subaru Ascent

Another one of the best SUVs on the market and a contender for the safest family vehicle is the Subaru Ascent. This is another big vehicle with room for up to eight passengers. The SUV also offers a lot of storage space, so you can keep backpacks and snacks out of the way. This vehicle also has a whopping 19 cup holders, which may seem a bit excessive until you go to a fast food restaurant with the whole family!

What Makes it Safe?

The Subaru Ascent is a very safe vehicle. Subaru has its EyeSight Driver-Assisting Technology, which includes numerous features that help you see the environment around you while helping to control the vehicle. There is a pre-collision braking system, lane-centering features, and advanced blind spot detection.

The Toyota Camry continues to be a very dependable and popular sedan. In addition to its safety features, the car is extremely reliable and it’s very fuel efficient. You can fit 4-5 people, and there’s plenty of hip space. The Camry is also a great car for small children as it can fit multiple car seats safely and securely.

What Makes it Safe?

The Toyota Camry is also loaded with safety features. It has a robust lane tracing assist system that keeps the car in the center of the lane. It also has an incredible dynamic radar cruise control that keeps you at your speed while also maintaining the proper distance behind other vehicles. The car also has road sign assist, which informs you of important signage on the road by showing them vividly on your dashboard display.

#3 Ford F150

There are also many trucks that fit well in the safest family vehicle conversation. The F150 is one such truck. The truck fits several people with plenty of hip space. It’s also a great vehicle for traveling over different types of terrain. This model also has a unique stowaway feature that creates a desk-like space between the passenger and driver spaces. It’s a nice feature for keeping belongings out of reach of the children.

What Makes it Safe?

Since this truck can go almost anywhere, it makes sense that it would have safety features for any adventure. The Ford F150 features advanced airbag safety systems that protect all passengers if there’s trouble. The truck also has emergency breaking when a collision is detected. There are also blind spot alerts, lane-keeping assist features, and a great parking assist feature, which can make driving easier for people who are newer to trucks.

#2 Tesla Model X

If you absolutely require an electric vehicle, then consider the Tesla Model X. It has plenty of seating and room for multiple car seats. There’s also plenty of hip room for adult passengers. The Tesla also has many bells and whistles for adults, including several Bluetooth charging stations and a helpful cabin camera. The Tesla is more for fashion than function, but it will work just fine as a family car.

What Makes it Safe?

There’s plenty that makes the Tesla Model X safe. For starters, the Model X has extensive lane assist technology that detects items in your blindspot and keeps you safely in your lane. The speed assist feature is also nice. It provides different indicators on your dashboard monitor that help you to stay at a safe speed. Other bells and whistles include the cabin camera, collision avoidance assist, seatbelts, and safety harnesses.

You can fit eight people in this van, making it great for bringing family and friends to those soccer games. Even though you can fit a lot of people, the van is still very spacious so everyone can be comfortable. The vehicle is also car seat-friendly.

What Makes it Safe?

What makes this the safest family vehicle? Several factors. The van offers several configurations for car seats so children of all ages can sit comfortably. There’s also a multi-angle rearview camera that allows you to see much of the road at once. This Odyssey also has advanced braking, airbag, and driver assistance systems. There are also land departure and lane-keeping alerts. You can rest easy when you load your family in this van.

When you have kids, it can be tough to get them out the door, especially when school begins. Things can get hectic rather quick, so you need a strategy. We’re here to help with this guide to a smooth morning routine with kids.

This guide will include some of my favorite strategies. There are steps for keeping everything organized, keeping track of time, and getting your kids out of bed in the morning. Consider the steps below and remember to keep it simple. See what works for your family and stay consistent.

Why It’s Important to Have a Smooth Morning Routine

If you’re a new parent or you are considering growing your family, you may be wondering about the importance of a smooth morning routine with kids. The fact is that you need to have some kind of procedure to go through each morning for your own sanity. It’s especially important when your kids start going to school. You need to get them out the door on time. When you have a schedule, you can ensure that everything goes smoothly so you can also get on with your day. Create your schedule early, so you’re set when you really need it. Here are a few strategies to consider:

Keep It Simple

There will be a lot of recommended steps here for your child’s morning routine. However, regardless of which aspects you include, remember to keep things simple, especially for younger kids. Don’t complicate the process or your kids will inevitably forget a step. If they do, don’t be too hard on them.

Lay Out Clothes the Night Before

The key to a smooth morning routine with kids is to start the night before. One way to do so is to talk with your kids in the evening about the clothes they’ll wear the next day. Find their clothes and lay them all out near the bed. This is a big step that you can skip in the morning. If you have kids, you know how indecisive they can be about their clothes, so this is a must.

Pack Their Backpack the Evening Before

Another essential step to take the night before is to get your child’s backpack in order. Talk to your child about what classes they have and pack their books. Also, ask them about any homework assignments they may have forgotten about. Get them done and out of the way.

Shower or Bathe the Night Before

This step may differ for each family. Some people like to bathe the night before, while others like to bathe when they wake up. However, if you want to have a smooth morning routine with kids, consider bathing the night before. That way, the kids can get out of bed and move on to the next steps of the morning routine. The bathing routine can sometimes take a while so it’s good to get this out of the way.

Get to Bed Earlier

It’s essential that you and your child get enough sleep at night. If you’re not getting enough sleep, then there’s a good chance that you won’t wake up on time. If you find that you’re struggling, then make bedtime a few minutes earlier. It can make a world of difference.

Wake Up Early

If you have a morning routine but you find that you’re still running out of time, you may need to wake up earlier than usual. It may seem easier said than done, but it may be necessary. Even setting the alarm five minutes earlier could make a big difference. Your child will likely be cranky when you start this new wake-up time, but they’ll be okay eventually.

Make Waking Up Less Jarring

Think about how you wake up your kids in the morning. A loud alarm can be a bit jarring and can make your child upset. So can shaking them awake. Instead, make the wake-up process more relaxing by changing the alarm to a soothing song or waking the kiddos up with some warm snuggles. It’s a great way to start the day.

Get Them in the Bathroom

In the morning, once your child is up and out of bed, get them into the bathroom so they can get that part of the process over with. Part of the procedure may be washing their face, brushing their teeth, combing their hair, or any number of things. Get it done and move on with the routine.

Keep Everything In Its Space

Another essential key to a smooth morning routine with kids is to keep everything in a certain place so you know where to get it. That means also putting things away when you’re done. Keep the coat in the closet, the backpack near the door, and the homework in the bag the night before. You may need to put items in labeled containers so you always have what you need.

Put Clocks Everywhere

Sometimes, the simplest explanation is the easiest. For example, if you want to know that you’re on time during your morning routine, then put clocks everywhere. Have a clock in your child’s room, in the bathroom, and in the kitchen. That way, you can keep on track and get everything done.

Listen to Upbeat Music

While you’re going through your morning routine, consider playing some upbeat music that is suitable for children. Music has a great way of energizing people and getting them excited, and it could be just what your kids need to be motivated to get out the door. Even playing it in the background can do the trick.

Share Positive Thoughts of the Day

A final great way to set yourself and your kids up for the day is to share some positive thoughts and things you’re grateful for. You can do this on your way out the door or even in the car on the way to school. Your kid can repeat phrases like “I am brave” and “I can do anything.” It’s a great way to set your kids up for success in class. When your kids wake up, ask them to say something that they’re grateful for, like that they’re healthy or that they get to learn something exciting at school.

Create a Checklist

Once you’ve created a smooth morning routine with kids, take all of the steps you want to follow and turn them into a checklist. Hang it up so that both you and your kids can see it so everyone is aware of what is expected. Consider adding it onto a dry-erase board so you can check off each step. Then, when you’re done, you can clean it off and have it ready for the next day.

Reward Your Child

When your child successfully goes through the morning routine, consider providing them with a reward. It could be an extra snack at breakfast or the promise of playing a game after school. You don’t have to reward them every day, but by showing that they did a good job, they’ll be likely to be successful again tomorrow.

If you’re like me, you know the dangers of sitting in front of a screen for too long, but with the way things are in 2025, staying away from the TV, computer, or smartphone is easier said than done. However, it’s important that you work on finding ways to not be a slave to technology. To that end, I have composed a list of simple strategies that I’ve found for managing screen time.

From setting limits and using apps to reduce your screen time to finding a new hobby, there are many ways that you can pry yourself and your kids away from your devices and live happier lives. Here are some tips and advice to get you started.

What is Considered Screen Time?

The first step to properly managing screen time is to understand what it is. As it sounds, screen time is how much time you spend sitting in front of a television, laptop, smartphone, or anything else with a screen. Spending a lot of time watching the news, playing video games, or even working can often be the culprit.

Negative Effect of Too Much Screen Time: Obesity

There are numerous reasons why sitting in front of a screen for too long is bad for your mental and physical health. One of them is that you could face health issues like obesity. Whether it’s you or your children, if you spend too much time in front of the screen, you’re less likely to get up and move around. In addition to the likelihood of gaining weight, a sedentary lifestyle can also lead to heart issues, the potential for diabetes, and more.

Negative Effect of Too Much Screen Time: Sleep Issues

Managing screen time is essential, especially if you value your sleep. One of the issues associated with almost any type of screen is the blue light it emits. Blue light can affect your sleep cycle and circadian rhythm. That means you could have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep.

Negative Effect of Too Much Screen Time: Neck and Back Pain

Another issue associated with excessive screen time is body issues, especially with your back and neck. Most people who spend hours watching TV or working at a desk are not sitting properly. Their back may be arched and their necks bent. If you do that too often, you could experience chronic pain.

Negative Effect of Too Much Screen Time: Anxiety and Depression

When you spend an excessive amount of time in front of a screen, you’re less likely to be out in the real world with real people. As a result you could begin to experience depression. You need social contact with others. The people on TV won’t give it to you. Also, the less time you spend in real-world situations, the more likely you are to be anxious when you’re in them later on.

Screen Time is Even Worse for Kids

Children and teens who are subjected to constant screen time can face all of the threats mentioned previously, plus other downsides, like a lack of success at school. Per the National Institutes of Health, teens with screen time issues can score lower on language and thinking tests. Creative and critical thinking skills will likely also take a hit.

Keep Track of Your Time

One of the easiest ways to start managing screen time is to be self-aware and keep track of your time. Make a spreadsheet that lists how often you’re in front of a screen each day. If you notice that you’re spending hours in front of the TV, then start making changes. Sometimes, it’s hard to realize how often you’re engaging in a bad habit until you write it down.

Use Tech

The obsession with too much screen time is a well-known issue. That’s why many developers have created software to help with the problem. For instance, one app called RescueTime tracks your screen time and sends you alerts about your usage. Another app called Canopy allows you to set restrictions on the time you can spend on websites that take up a lotof your time. Research the many different apps available online and find the best one for you.

Turn Off Notifications

Part of the reason why you may be spending so much time on your screen is because you are constantly getting reminders to get on your phone. So, turn off the notifications that you have on Facebook, Instagram, and news websites. If you’re not reminded of them, there’s a good chance you won’t be so dependent on them.

Take Breaks During Your Work

You may not have a lot of control over the need to look at screens, especially if you need to use a computer for work. However, you can make the situation better by taking breaks. Get up once per hour and focus on something different in the room so you’re not just staring at the screen all day. Another way to protect your eyes is to follow the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, focus on an object at least 20 feet away for 20 seconds. That way, you allow your eyes to refresh.

Use a Standing Desk

An easy way to reduce screen time is to get a standing desk. Standing during your working hours can help mitigate the possibility of obesity and other health issues. Then, when you feel better about your health and physical appearance, you’ll also likely have less anxiety.

Don’t Eat In Front of Your Screens

Many people fall into the trap of doing everything in front of their screens, so they find fewer excuses to leave them. One little way to fix your issue is to make it a rule that you will never eat a meal in front of a screen. Instead of eating with the TV on, sit with your family and speak about your days. During your lunch break, instead of eating at the desk, take the time to walk outside or find a way to get out of the house.

Don’t Look at Your Phone in Bed

Many people lie in bed while looking at social media or watching YouTube. That’s a surefire way to fuel your screen addiction. So, make it a rule to never touch your smartphone while in bed. Instead, write in a journal or read a book. These are methods to keep your mind busy and could help you fall asleep.

Spend More Time Outdoors

An easy way to avoid excessive screen time is to spend as little time as possible away from screens. A great way to do so is to spend more time outdoors. During weekends, instead of binging new shows, go for long hikes. After work, head outside and spend time with the kids. Whenever you feel yourself getting bored on the couch, find something to do in the backyard.

Lead by Example

If you don’t want your kids to also struggle with an addiction to screen time, then you should set an example. Doing so could help you and the children. Set limitations for when your kids should be on screens and then follow your own advice. In addition to being healthier, you and your kids will also have an increased chance of bonding with each other.

I Always Thought Video Games Were Bad for Kids’ Brains, But These 15 Reasons Made Me Change My Mind https://www.momswhothink.com/i-always-thought-videos-games-were-bad-for-kids-brains-but-these-reasons-made-me-change-my-mind/ https://www.momswhothink.com/i-always-thought-videos-games-were-bad-for-kids-brains-but-these-reasons-made-me-change-my-mind/#respond Mon, 03 Mar 2025 14:47:48 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=267352&preview=true&preview_id=267352 The post I Always Thought Video Games Were Bad for Kids’ Brains, But These 15 Reasons Made Me Change My Mind appeared first on Moms Who Think.

As far back as I can remember, it was thought that video games were bad for kid’s brains and for their overall health. For many years, I agreed with that assessment. After all, it seemed like video games turned kids into couch potatoes, and many of the games were overly violent. However, while there are some inappropriate games out there, what I discovered was, overall, that playing video games can actually be good for people, both young and old.

This list will showcase many of the reasons why video games can benefit our minds and bodies. For instance, did you know that many games require physical movement to play them? That means your kids get a workout while having a good time. Many video games also encourage kids to learn essential skills like math and problem-solving. It’s true! Check out this list. Chances are that you’ll change your mind, too!

Listen to the Experts

If you used to think that video games were bad, then you need to listen to the experts. According to the Cleveland Clinic, video games increase brain matter. The experts say the games work like a stimulant that increases the gray matter that encourages interconnectivity in your brain. The grey matter also controls your movement and regulates your emotions.

Feelings of Accomplishment

The same experts at the Cleveland Clinic also say that playing video games can help players feel a sense of accomplishment. All games include tasks of some form, and when a player reaches the next level or gets a trophy, it feels great. The player can translate that feeling into the real world and use it to succeed in their job.

Improve Dexterity

Holding a video game controller can be great for a player’s hands and improve dexterity. This is according to a study from the American Psychological Association. They say that people who play video games make fewer mistakes when they’reworking with their hands. Some doctors even recommend that stroke victims play video games to get back control of their hands.

Improve Social Skills

When many people imagine someone playing video games, they imagine them all alone, sitting in the dark. However, the truth is that people who play video games are often better in social situations, typically due to the fact that they play games with other people, even if they’re not with them in the room. They may even be more comfortable than someone who doesn’t play games.

Become a Problem Solver

Just about any video game will help the player with problem-solving abilities. Platforming games require the gamer to jump from place to place to reach an end goal. Role-playing games ask the player to form a group to defeat a common enemy. Granted, players won’t face these same issues in real life, but they’ll know the steps necessary to tackle a problem.

Become More Physically Active

Many people also have the misconception that gamers sit on a couch all day and eat fatty foods. The fact is that new technology like virtual headsets and gaming systems like the Wii require players to move around while playing the game. That means a gamer may be getting more exercise than non-gamers, and that’s a good thing.

Improved Vision

People who thought that video games were bad never realized the benefit that gaming can have on a player’s eyes. Many games, including first-person shooters, require players to see what’s near and far at all times in order to win. According to a study on Live Science, game players can often see objects in cluttered spaces more easily than non-gamers. Just be careful about staring at the TV screen for too long.

Stress Relief

Gaming can also be an incredible stress reliever. If you enjoy playing video games, then you’re likely to feel better whileplaying them. Just about any game can help the player escape reality, if even for an hour or so. That’s why many mental health professionals even recommend games as a form of therapy.

Games Teach Persistence

The great thing about most video games is that they have an ending, and the goal is to get to that ending. It won’t always be easy, and that’s the point. Playing most games requires persistence and that same persistence is necessary in the real world. Many people give up to easily in life, so gaming could be a solution.

Improves Your Memory

There are many games that require memory to succeed. You can play just about any role-playing game, and you’ll be forced to remember which items hurt which enemies. There are also strategy games that require certain moves to succeed. In the real world, it’s necessary to remember facts and information for work, so gaming could help a person succeed.

Games Can Help With Reading Skills

Video games can be great for younger kids who are learning to read. Many open-world games and RPG titles require the player to read in order to make decisions and progress throughout the game, and kids can learn a lot. Granted, video games shouldn’t be the only way that kids learn to read, but they can be a great supplement to books.

Video Games Could Become a Career

The people who always believed that video games were bad have never turned their love of gaming into a career. The video game industry is a multi-billion dollar industry and there are jobs for graphic artists, writers, voice actors, and more. A child who loves games now could find a very fruitful career in the future.

Games Learn How To Set-Shift

To set-shift means how quickly a person can switch from doing one job to another. So, how quickly can a person properly move from cooking a meal to washing the car. Video games can help people move from task to task more easily and with little confusion. Games can also help with multitasking abilities.

Games Help With Creativity

Video games can also be a great way to spark creativity. Many games are filled with expansive worlds that seem to go on forever, and they can do wonders for a person’s imagination. Gamers could use the inspiration they get from playing their games to be more creative in the real world.

Games Can Be Educational

I always thought video games were bad until I realized how many educational games there are in the world. There are games that teach players how to read, perform math equations, learn the alphabet, and many other important lessons. Sit your child in front of an educational game for 10-15 minutes, and it could do them a lot of good.

If you’re a mom or dad, then you likely don’t want to go overboard by ordering fast food on a regular basis. Many menu items at these establishments are full of calories, fat, and sodium. The dishes may taste good, but they’re not doing your family any favors. However, we also know that sometimes there just isn’t enough time to cook a full meal at home. The good news is that many fast food restaurants do have a selection of meals under 500 calories, which can save the day at mealtime.

In this list, we’ll show you a variety of decently healthy meals from major chains, including McDonald’s, Burger King, Arby’s, Chipotle, and more. The meals typically include a main dish and even a side that you and your kids can enjoy without stressing out about caloric intake. See if your favorite fast food restaurant made the list.

Why You Need to Watch Your Calories

When you bring your family to any fast food restaurant, you need to think seriously about the nutritional information in the meal you’re ordering. Many fast food menu items are loaded with salt, calories, and trans fats. Even if all you do is keep an eye on the caloric intake, you’ll be doing your family a lot of favors. Why? Because eating too many calories is bad for your health. Going overboard on calories can lead to serious issues, including obesity, weight gain, cardiovascular disease, and type 2 diabetes, among other severe complications. Choose meals under 500 calories and you’ll do yourself and your family a lot of favors.

No matter where you live, you likely find that you have your choice of many different pizza places. However, if you ever get sick of Pizza Hut and Dominoes, consider Hungry Howie’s Pizza. If you haven’t heard of this fine pizza chain before, then chances are you currently live in a state where the pizza place doesn’t exist. That’s a shame because Hungry Howie’s is a fairly unique pizzeria where you can get flavored crust!

Don’t worry. If you don’t have a Hungry Howie’s near you now, there’s a good chance you will have one in the future. The chain is quickly expanding across the United States. There are restaurants from Florida to California. For now, check out the states that are lucky enough to be home to a Howie’s.

What is Hungry Howie’s Pizza?

Many people who don’t yet have a Hungry Howie’s Pizza in their state are eager to get one. Why? Howie’s is different from most other pizza places you’ve been to because they have flavored crust! You can choose from many different flavors, including butter, garlic herb, cajun, Italian herb, sesame, asiago cheese, and more. The flavored crusts mix perfectly with the sausage, cheese, pepperoni, or anything else you add to your cheese. Unfortunately, only 21 states currently have the restaurant in their state. Let’s take a deeper look at where they are now.

Where Is Hungry Howie’s Focused Now?

You’ll see some trends on this list as to where Hungry Howie’s currently does business. They have many restaurants on the Eastern and Western coasts. So if you live in those areas, you may see a restaurant soon. However, there’s also a presence in the Midwest. The point is that the chain is looking at aggressive expansion, so it’s time to get excited about Howie’s!

Alabama

There are currently 13 Hungry Howie’s Pizza locations in the state of Alabama. They all serve the tasty flavored pizza folks love and they’re in many major cities. You’ll find them in Birmingham, Auburn, Montgomery, and other places.

Colorado

The franchise is slowly expanding in the state of Colorado. Currently, there are only three restaurants there. Two of them are in Aurora and the third is in Thornton. There are currently many pizza places in the Colorado market and Howie’s is trying to get a piece of the action.

Indiana

Indiana is another state that is quickly gaining steam when it comes to Hungry Howie’s flavored crust pizza. There are currently five restaurants in the state. Many of the locations in the state sell pizza, wings, salads, and more.

North Carolina

North Carolina is one of the states with the most Howie’s locations. Currently, there are 19 restaurants in the state. Some of the most noteworthy locations are in Fayetteville, Winston-Salem, and Belmont.

Pennsylvania

There’s a lot of work to do in Pennsylvania. Currently, there’s only one restaurant in the state, and it’s in Altoona. The restaurant offers takeout and delivery, and they work with DoorDash and other services. The people are clamoring for more pizza options, and this could be it.

Utah

Currently, there are six Hungry Howie’s Pizza locations in the fine state of Utah. Several of the locations are in the town of St. George. All of the locations are big hits in the state.

Arkansas

The fine people of Arkansas currently only have two locations to visit when they want their flavored-crust fix. You can find the restaurants in Little Rock and Conway. There’s rumors that there may be more locations in the future.

Delaware

If you want to get your Hungry Howie’s fix in Delaware, you currently only have one to visit. It is on 1252 Norman Eskridge Hwy in Seaford. There are currently many locations on the East Coast, but there’s still a need for expansion in Delaware. Will Hungry Howie’s oblige?

Louisiana

Another state where Hungry Howie’s has a minimal presence is in Louisiana, where they have one location. It can be found in the big city of Baton Rouge. The location still sells its signature flavors plus drinks and appetizers.

Nevada

Hungry Howie’s Pizza has a growing expansion in Nevada. All three of the restaurants are in Las Vegas, so there’s something tasty for the people on the strip. There’s a lot more empty space in Nevada, so the company would be wise tocontinue to expand.

South Carolina

There is a decent Hungry Howie’s expansion going on in South Carolina. Currently, they have four locations. Two of which are in Myrtle Beach. There are also locations in Carolina Forest and Greenville.

Arizona

The Hungry Howie’s presence in Arizona is strong. Currently, there are 23 restaurants in the great state and more are likely to come. You can find them in some of the largest cities, including Phoenix, Tempe, and Scottsdale.

Florida

Though Hungry Howie’s is based out of Michigan, they do many of their business dealings out of Florida. For that reason, there are currently 190 locations in the state and there are more to come. There’s barely any town in the state that isn’t near one of the restaurants.

Michigan

The Hungry Howie’s Pizza chain of restaurants began in Michigan in 1973, so it’s no surprise that there are more locations there than in any other state. There are currently 199 restaurants in the state. You can’t drive very far without running across one of them.

Ohio

Ohio also has a number of Hungry Howie’s locations. 14 of them to be exact. There are several in the town of Canton, Alliance, and many other fine areas. There are likely to be more locations in the future.

Tennessee

At this point, Tennessee only has three restaurants, but hey, having even just one Hungry Howie’s location is better than having none. The restaurants are in Murfreesboro, Morristown, and Jefferson City.

California

There are plenty of Hungry Howie locations out West, including in California. Currently, the state has nine locations in major cities, many of which are in Southern California. This is a great restaurant chain that gives In-N-Out a run for its money.

Georgia

At this point, Georgia is home to two Hungry Howie’s locations. However, with its close proximity to Florida, that is likely to change in the future. The restaurants are in Douglas and Newman, so check them out if you’re in the area.

Mississippi

Currently, poor Mississippi only has one Hungry Howie’s location in the state. It’s in Ridgeland and it’s open until 10 pm. The chain is known to open restaurants in the south, so there will likely be more to come in the future.

Oklahoma

Oklahoma is home to two Hungry Howie’s Pizza locations. They can both be found in Tulsa. Order from either of them with Uber Eats, DoorDash, and similar apps. They both serve pizza, drinks, and appetizers.

Texas

Finally, we have Texas, which currently has 10 restaurants. They can be found in large cities, including San Antonio and Houston. However, they’re fairly spread around so you’re likely to find one near you.

9 Things You Shouldn’t Order the Next Time You Take Your Family to Chipotle https://www.momswhothink.com/things-you-shouldnt-order-at-chipotle/ https://www.momswhothink.com/things-you-shouldnt-order-at-chipotle/#respond Wed, 26 Feb 2025 00:31:09 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=266829&preview=true&preview_id=266829 The post 9 Things You Shouldn’t Order the Next Time You Take Your Family to Chipotle appeared first on Moms Who Think.

If you’re like me, then you’re also a Chipotle super-fan. I find myself going there several times per month with my family. It’s hard to resist. The food seems to be so fresh and tasty and it always hits the spot. However, while the food is good, just like at any restaurant, there are some menu items you should generally try to avoid. Either they’re not very healthy or they may not be as advertised. To show you what we mean, we have composed this list of items that you and your family maybe shouldn’t order at Chipotle.

Don’t worry. This list isn’t all doom and gloom. In addition to mentioning some items you should generally avoid, we’ll also mention three tasty and healthy items that you should definitely try. Check out this list and see if your favorite made an appearance.

Avoid the Chips

It may seem crazy to order a taco or burrito and not get a side of chips, but they are one of the main things that youshouldn’t order at Chipotle. The main reason is the sodium content. Even if you order a small batch of fries, you’re still getting 420 milligrams of sodium. Sure, the seasoning is what makes the chips so tasty, but they are bad news. Too much sodium can increase your chances of dangerous ailments like stroke, heart disease, and high blood pressure.

Avoid the White Rice

You don’t have to order a complex meal in order to have an unhealthy bite. In the case of Chipotle, all you need is to order too much white rice. Regular white rice has a ton of sodium and it lacks nutrients and fiber, which makes it high on the glycemic index, meaning it can cause blood sugar spikes. If you really want rice with your burrito, get it, but don’t go overboard. Really, you’re better off getting brown rice because it does contain nutrients, so it’s less unhealthy overall.

Avoid the Carnitas Bowl

One of the most unhealthy dishes at Chipotle is the carnitas bowl. Many of the bowls that the restaurant sells are rather unhealthy, mostly due to the size and pile of ingredients included in each one. However, the carnitas bowl is one of the worst, as it clocks in at over 1,000 calories. Keep in mind that doctors recommend eating less than 3,000 calories in an entire day, so you can see how this one would be bad for you. A lot of the blame lies on the cheese, guacamole, and sour cream that’s included in the dish.

Avoid the Carnitas Burrito

While you’re at it, you should also avoid the carnitas burrito if you value your health. Again, it comes down to the ingredients. Once you pack in the sour cream, cheese, and white rice, you’re asking for punishment. In the end, the burrito could have close to 1,400 calories, which is a lot for lunch. Even worse, the burrito is loaded with sodium, so you’re not doing your body any favors.

Avoid the “Fresh” Salsa

It may not seem to be true, but one thing that you shouldn’t order at Chipotle is the fresh salsa. Salsa on its own isn’t very unhealthy. However, according to gossip by former employees, the salsa is not made fresh as advertised. According to a post on Reddit, the salsa is actually one of the few things at Chipotle that is not made fresh every day. So, it may taste good, but it may also be days old.

Avoid the Large Chips and Guacamole

It can be tempting to order your main meal, be it a burrito or steak salad, and to also get a side of chips and guacamole, but you should be careful. If you order the large chips and the large guacamole, and you eat it all yourself, you’ll be eating 1,270 calories, which is a big chunck of your daily limit. Plus, the pairing has 82 grams of fat and 126 grams of carbs. If you’re going to order this item, at least share it with friends.

Avoid the Large Side of Queso Blanco

Chipotle has a nice selection of single sides that are great for dipping your chips. But if you’re trying to lose weight or stay healthy, then the side you shouldn’t order at Chipotle is the large size of the queso blanco. That dip by itself has 480 calories. That’s before you add the chips to the equation. This is another side that we hope you share with friends so you’re not getting all of those calories yourself.

Avoid Ordering Too Much On Your Salad

If you’re trying to be healthy, then be careful with salads. They may seem innocent at first, but when you keep adding oningredients, you may be asking for help. For instance, if you decide to add on smoked brisket, you’ll be adding an extra 360 calories to your dish. If you add white rice and brown rice, you’ll get an additional 400 calories. Further, top off your salad with black beans, pinto beans, and guacamole, and suddenly, your salad isn’t so healthy anymore.

Be Careful With Tacos

Just like with the salads, you should be careful when ordering tacos because it’s easy to go overboard. In many cases, the shells are the most unhealthy component. A single crispy shell contains 200 calories, and a soft shell has 250 calories. Once you start adding the meat and condiments, the calories will start to add up. If you decide to have several tacos, you may be asking for trouble.

Try the Chicken Fajita Salad

When you’re ready to start eating healthy at Chipotle, begin with the chicken fajita salad. Often, any menu item with the word “salad” in the title is a good starting point. This particular salad has only 44 grams of carbs and 25 grams of fat. On the flip side, it has 8 grams of fiber and 37 grams of protein, both of which are good for you. This tasty salad is full of lettuce, grilled chicken, veggies, and corn salsa. They are all of the ingredients that can keep you in good physical shape.

Try the Steak and Rice Burrito Bowl

With some modifications, you can get a healthy meal out of the steak and rice burrito bowl. Steak is a great source of protein because it is essential for strengthening your bones, muscles, and skin. Plus, protein helps to regulate your immune system. This burrito bowl has 31 grams of protein, which is a good amount. Rice and beans are also good sources of fiber, but too much rice can be unhealthy. So, to rectify this issue, when you order, ask for “light rice.”

Try the Steak Salad

If you’re a meat eater and you want something healthy that’s also a bit more substantial, then go for the steak salad. This meal includes steak, lettuce, veggies, and guacamole. This dish is tasty, and it provides a good amount of fiber and protein. Overall, the meal has 445 calories, 23 grams of carbs, and 28 grams of fat. It’s not the healthiest meal in the world, but if you watch what you eat the rest of the day, you’ll be okay.

Where Are Trader Joe’s Stores Now?

It’s safe to say that Trader Joe’s is a nationwide brand. The company has locations across the map, from California to Vermont and everywhere in between. Currently, most of the stores are located in California, where the company started. New York is the state with the second-most stores, but it’s still a fraction of the number of stores in California. Many of the new Trader Joe’s locations will also be in California, but the company is also expanding around the country.

New California Stores

Even though California currently has 193 stores, the company is adding several new Trader Joe’s Locations to their home state. The residents are likely to be happy when the new stores arrive in 2025. The 7 new stores will be in the following locations, most of which are in Southern California:

The stores will be at 506 Fort Evans Road NE, Leesburg, Va. 20176 and also at 8402 Old Keene Mill Road, West Springfield, Va. 22152. Check them out when you get the chance.

New Texas Stores

The great state of Texas will also be adding to its collection of Trader Joe’s locations. At this point, there are two Texas stores that have recently opened or are soon to open. The two locations will be at 13550 University Boulevard, Sugar Land, Texas 77479 and also at 120 S Denton Tap Road, Coppell, Texas, 75019. Texas is a big state, so more stores means shorter drives to get the goodies that Texans love.

New Nevada Stores

There are also two new Trader Joe’s locations in The Silver State. You can find them now at the following addresses: 185 Los Altos Parkway, Sparks, Nev. 89436, and 3945 S. Virginia Street, Reno, Nev. 89511. This is great news for Nevada locals.

New Arizona Store

The residents of Arizona can get excited about the arrival of one new Trader Joe’s store. It can be found at 3961 S. Arizona Avenue, Chandler, Ariz. 95248. This is a big location with all the groceries you need for the week plus a few surprises.

New Oregon Store

Trader Joe’s continues its western expansion with a new store in the town of Milwaukee at 15574 SE McLoughlin Boulevard. The store has a substantial presence in Oregon, so the people will likely be excited to have another location to call home.

New Utah Location

Trader Joe’s doesn’t have a huge presence in Utah, but they’re adding to their expansion with a new location. It is at 303 E. Spokane Avenue, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho 83814. If you live in Utah and you haven’t been here yet, this is a chance to make things right.

New Florida Location

There are many Trader Joe’s locations along the East Coast, including in New York and Florida. Luckily, Florida is getting one more location at 8111 Creedmoor Road, Raleigh, N.C. 27613. This new location is brimming with goodies, from ice cream to candy. So, check it out.

New South Carolina Location

Trader Joe’s is no stranger to the Carolinas, and they prove it yet again with another store location in South Carolina. It will be at 1909 Highway 17 N., Mt. Pleasant S.C. 29464. This new location will give people another chance to see the goodies that this store has to offer.

Georgia

The folks in the state of Georgia also have a lot more to be excited about. They have a new Trader Joe’s coming to the fine town of Sandy Springs. Specifically, the store will be at 4600 Roswell Road. The people of the state are no strangers to this business, so they’ll likely be glad to have another store to visit.

New Locations in Washington

New Trader Joe’s locations are also coming to the state of Washington. The two new locations are at 8726 Greenwood Ave., in Seattle and at 4255 Meridian St., Suite 200, Bellingham in Bellingham.

Trader Joe’s In Washington D.C.

It’s also worth noting that there will be new Trader Joe’s locations in Washington D.C. Locals and politicians can find the new stores at 5335 Wisconsin Ave. NW and also at 701 Monroe St. NE.

New Tennessee Location

There is also a new Trader Joe’s store coming to Tennessee. It will be located in Murfreesboro, and locals will be able to find it at 2305 Medical Center Parkway. It’s a large store with a lot of necessities and goodies and it’s only a short drive from many nearby communities.

The 9 Most Unhealthy Drinks at Starbucks – and 4 Low Calorie Replacements https://www.momswhothink.com/the-most-unhealthy-drinks-at-starbucks-and-low-calorie-replacements/ https://www.momswhothink.com/the-most-unhealthy-drinks-at-starbucks-and-low-calorie-replacements/#respond Fri, 21 Feb 2025 18:46:49 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=208968&preview=true&preview_id=208968 The post The 9 Most Unhealthy Drinks at Starbucks – and 4 Low Calorie Replacements appeared first on Moms Who Think.

If you’re like me, then you seek out Starbucks restaurants so you can get your boost of caffeine for the day. They have a large menu of tasty beverages, and new items show up all of the time. The drinks always do the trick, but did you know that some of the menu options are rather unhealthy? It’s true. Many of the drinks have as many calories as a full meal while others are loaded with sugar. To help you stick to your weight loss goals, we have compiled this list of the most unhealthy drinks at Starbucks.

Some of the unhealthy options include the hot chocolate, Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino, and the Pistachio Latte, so if any of those are your favorite, be warned. However, we’re not leaving you high and dry. At the bottom of this list, you’ll also see a selection of healthy drinks at Starbucks, so you can get your caffeine fix without the guilt.

Unhealthy: Hot Chocolate

We may still be facing some cold temperatures, but be cautious if you try to warm up by getting the hot chocolate. As one of the most unhealthy drinks at Starbucks, the hot chocolate poses a number of concerns. The grande size has 370 calories, 16 grams of fat, 160 mg of sodium, and 43 grams of carbs. That’s if you don’t add in extra marshmallows or sprinkles. Then you’re looking at a very unhealthy beverage.

Unhealthy: Iced Cinnamon Dolce Latte

If you love cinnamon, then the idea of an iced cinnamon dolce latte probably sounds pretty good. No doubt it’s delicious, but it’s also bad for your health. This single drink contains 300 calories, 13 grams of fat, 115 mg of sodium, and 38 grams of carbs. The addition of the whipped cream makes matters worse, so maybe ask to keep that ingredient out of the equation.

Unhealthy: Caramel Apple Spice

If you’re like me, then the idea of the caramel apple spice drink sounds perfect. This is another beverage that is undoubtedly very tasty, but just because it has the word “apple” in it doesn’t mean it’s healthy. Instead, this drink packs in a whopping 380 calories, 35 mg sodium, 8 grams of fat, and 77 grams carbs. The reason for the poor report is due to the addition of whipped cream, heavy cream, caramel sauce, and a slew of other unhealthy ingredients.

Unhealthy: Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino

Many people get excited when the “pumpkin spice” part of the year comes around, but be careful about what you order. Case in point: the Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino. This one is loaded with 420 calories. To keep that in perspective, health experts recommend you consume less than 3,000 calories in an entire day, so this drink is a big part of it. The drink also contains 15 grams of fat, 280 mg of sodium, and 66 grams of carbs, so be careful.

Unhealthy: Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino

Easily, one of the most unhealthy drinks at Starbucks is the Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino. This caffeinated beverage looks more like a giant dessert, and like many desserts, it’s not exactly healthy. The beverage contains 480 calories, 270 mg sodium, 62 g carbs, and 24 g fat. That’s all without customizing the drink. Adding more whipped cream or sprinkles will spike the calorie count even higher.

Unhealthy: Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino

This is another drink that looks mouthwateringly delicious on the menu, which is why so many people are tempted to order it. However, don’t be too quick to ask for it if you’re on a diet. This chocolatey delight has 470 calories, 22 grams of fat, 280 mg of sodium, and 65 grams of carbs. It’s because this is more dessert than beverage. The inclusion of whipped cream, caramel-sugar topping, and dark caramel sauce are just some of the culprits.

Unhealthy: White Hot Chocolate

No, the white version of hot chocolate is not healthier than the standard version. The secret that makes this drink so tasty is the addition of cocoa butter, but that’s part of the problem. When all is said and done, this drink contains 440 calories, 260 mg of sodium, 19 grams of fat, and 55 grams of carbs. It’s a very unhealthy drink. If you must choose between the two, go for the regular hot chocolate, which is slightly healthier.

Unhealthy: Acai Lemonade Starbucks Refresher

You may go into Starbucks looking to try a refreshing beverage on a hot day. One of the colorful Starbucks Refreshers may look like they’ll hit the spot, but beware. The refresher drinks contain a lot of sugar. Almost enough to fulfill your daily allowance. The drink also contains 140 calories, 15 mg sodium, and 35 grams of carbs. This drink can be refreshing but enjoy it sparingly.

Unhealthy: Pistachio Latte

The Pistachio Latte is certainly one of the most unhealthy drinks at Starbucks. This is another one that may have you scratching your head. After all, aren’t nuts supposed to be healthy? Not when they’re loaded with salted brown butter and four pumps of pistachio sauce. The end result is a tasty drink that contains 320 calories, 9 grams of fat, 310 mg of sodium, and 48 grams of carbs of carbs. Pistachio fans, be warned.

Healthy: Cafe Americano

If you want a drink with barely any calories, go for the Cafe Americano. It is a cup of espresso that is diluted in hot water. The drink provides a nice shot of caffeine with only 15 calories. The only drink at Starbucks that’s healthier than this one is the normal, brewed black coffee. That has five calories per cup. Of course, if you’re going to only get black coffee, you might as well just brew it at home and save some money.

Healthy: Chai Tea Latte

The Chai Tea Latte at Starbucks is out of this world, and luckily, it’s also one of the healthier drinks at the restaurant. This latte includes frothed and steamed milk and the perfect amount of spice. All in all, it has 200 calories. It’s not perfect, but if you watch what you eat for the rest of the day, you’ll be in good shape.

Healthy: Skinny Vanilla Latte

If you need your coffee fix, then a good latte may be the only beverage that fits the bill. However, if you want to stay healthy, go for the skinny vanilla latte. This tasty drink has frothed and steamed milk, a ribbon of vanilla syrup, and several tasty shots of espresso. It’s like a dessert and a pick-me-up all in one. The best part is that the skinny version only has 100 calories if you get the tall size.

Healthy: Nitro Cold Brew

The final healthy choice that we’d like to highlight is the Nitro Cold Brew, which is a tasty, creamy caffeinated beverage that is injected with nitrogen for a great boost. This drink is not for everyone, but if you’re more about function than fashion, then it’s a great choice. Best of all, the drink only has five calories and no sugar. So you’ll be up and going without putting on extra weight.

The World’s 7 Best IKEAs to Bring Your Family To https://www.momswhothink.com/the-best-ikeas-on-earth/ https://www.momswhothink.com/the-best-ikeas-on-earth/#respond Wed, 19 Feb 2025 17:04:58 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=266169&preview=true&preview_id=266169 The post The World’s 7 Best IKEAs to Bring Your Family To appeared first on Moms Who Think.

If you have ever had to furnish a house, office, or apartment, there’s a good chance that you’ve had to stop in an IKEA store at least once in your life. Some people like to joke about how you have to assemble most of the items from scratch, but even with that, the stores are impressive. You could spend hours walking around IKEA and get ideas for bedrooms, kitchens, backyards, living rooms, and more. However, have you been in the best IKEAs?

This list showcases seven different IKEA stores around the world that will truly blow your mind. Some of the stores on this list are amongst the largest in the world. There are also IKEA stores here that sell recycled goods and others that are almost entirely sustainable and environmentally friendly. If you’re an IKEA super-fan, make it a point to visit every one of these seven stores.

The IKEA in Greenwich, London

One of the best IKEAs to visit is located in the middle of gorgeous Greenwich. This store has many unique features that help both the business and the community. One of the features is that this store is very sustainable. It has a BREEAM certification, which is the award for sustainable construction. That means the store produces little waste and is made of environmentally friendly materials.

There’s Lots To Do at the Greenwich Store

When you visit the IKEA in Greenwich, you can do so much more than shop for housewares. The store has a rooftop pavilion and garden that you can use at your leisure. You can go up there and relax without paying a dime. The store also hosts meditation and yoga classes throughout the day, so you can chill out and relax.

The IKEA in Gwangmyeong, South Korea

One of the largest IKEA stores in the entire world can be found in South Korea. Altogether, the store is a whopping 635,000 square feet. That’s larger than the immense Louvre museum and much larger than most mansions. Needless to say, if you don’t find what you need for your home there, you won’t find it anywhere.

What’s in the Gwangmyeong Store?

The Gwangmyeong store is easily one of the best IKEAs because it has something for everyone and for every need. This store has more that 9,000 home products, 65 showrooms, three floors of parking, two floors of office space, and all of the Swedish meatballs and Korean dishes you could hope for during a shopping trip.

The IKEA Museum in Älmhult, Sweden

Believe it or not, IKEA has been around since 1958. Their very first store was opened in Älmhult, Sweden. If you are a fanatic, you can visit the original site and get a real kick out of visiting what stands there now: the IKEA Museum.

What Can You Do at the IKEA Museum?

You may be wondering if there’s a point to visiting the museum, and we’re here to tell you there is, especially if you like to shop. After you take the tour and learn about the long history of the Swedish brand, you can walk through the gift shop and discover the products that you can’t purchase anywhere else. Afterward, stop and get some meatballs because they sell them there too.

Ikea in Harajuku, Japan

One of the most unique and best IKEAs is in Japan. If you’re familiar with other IKEA locations, you wouldn’t recognize it at first. This is a concept store that has a storefront made almost entirely of glass. This store is a fraction of the size of the warehouse you’re used to, but it still has many great products.

What’s Inside the Harajuku, Japan IKEA?

This is a smaller store that is made for smaller homes. The store still has close to 9,500 items, but many of them are unique pieces that are perfect for apartments and tiny dwellings. One of the best parts of this store is that they have a lot of great food. There’s a Swedish cafe and tons of unique menu offerings, including plant-based noodles.

IKEA Secondhand Store

Located in Eskilstuna, Sweden, the IKEA Secondhand Store has all the best products but without the guilt of hurting the planet. This is a relatively new store that opened in 2020. The idea is to test a store where all of the products are environmentally friendly. Everything that you buy here has either been recycled or reused.

Successful Results at the IKEA Secondhand Store

If you’re wondering how the IKEA Secondhand Store is doing, the answer is: pretty great, actually. After operating for only a couple of years, the store has made a decent profit. The store will now remain open for a couple more years to see how successful it continues to be. So, you still have time to visit.

IKEA in Vienna, Austria

One of the best IKEAs on earth is located in Austria. This store, which opened in 2022, has quite a unique look. It’s meant to look like the shelving units sold at IKEA. Technically, the store is made up of many different glass-walled pods. It looks like a huge 32×32 shelving unit and each unit has IKEA products that you can purchase. On top of the building, there’s a rooftop terrace which is beautiful and free to use.

The Austria Store is Environmentally-Friendly

In addition to looking really cool, the IKEA in Vienna, Austria is also super sustainable. Each floor is loaded with potted plants which make the air cleaner. The building is also equipped with solar panels and efficient cooling and heating systems.

IKEA Lichtenberg in Berlin, Germany

Finally, no list of the best IKEAs would be complete without a visit to the huge IKEA store in Germany. Here’s a fun fact: Germany is the country with the most IKEA stores. There are 53 stores in this country alone. That’s more than all the stores in Sweden, where the company originated. This huge yellow and blue IKEA building is a sight to see.

One of the Largest IKEA Stores

If you happen to get a chance to visit this German IKEA, you’ll be amazed. That’s because this immense store is over 462,000 square feet, which makes it the second-largest IKEA store in all of Europe. It also puts many of the stores in the United States to shame. There’s no way you can walk in here and not find at least one thing to buy.

If you have ever taken a road trip, you’ve likely seen your fair share of gas stations and restaurants along the way. Many times, you see the same old businesses. However, if you’re ever driving and you see a Buc-ee’s, you may become immediately excited. For those not in the know, Buc-ee’s is a huge gas station with hundreds of fueling stations and a huge store where you can buy everything from gourmet sandwiches to their own brand of candy.

If that sounds amazing, then it should be no surprise that people are excited about the new Buc-ee’s locations that will be opening across the country in the coming years. Check out this list and see if you’re one of the lucky ones who will soon be within driving distance of a new Buc-ee’s.

What is Buc-ees?

You may be wondering what Buc-ee’s is and why people are so excited about seeing more of them. Simply put, it’s a gas station. However, it’s not just a regular gas station with a few pumps and some overpriced candy inside. Instead, this is a huge business with many pumps and a massive store. When you go into the store, you’ll find that you can purchase anything from candy and soft drinks to shirts, stuffed animals, and entire meals. People are always amazed the first time they walk into one of these fantastic places, and that’s why folks want more.

Buc-ee is a Huge Star!

One of the best parts about Buc-ee’s is their mascot: Buc-ee the Beaver! There’s even a statue of him outside of all their locations. It’s amazing to see people who are visiting for the first time stop to take a family picture with the Buc-ee statue. When you go inside the gas station, you’ll find Buc-ee’s face everywhere. It’s on the candy bags, the coffee cups, and the beef jerky – but that’s not it. You can also get shirts and outfits with the character’s face on it. When you walk around states like Texas, you’ll be amazed at how many people have a Buc-ee’s shirt!

The Buc-ee’s Difference

In addition to finding a lot of cool stuff at this gas station chain, you’ll also notice many other differences between this store and other gas stations. The locations are incredibly clean and everything is in its place. Even the restrooms were voted as the cleanest in the area. Not only are the restrooms huge, but there are even showers and other helpful amenities there. You’ll be amazed at how big a Buc-ee’s location really is. It’s like going to a supermarket where you can buy just about anything and there’s really no experience quite like it.

Tennessee

There will soon be a new Buc-ee’s gracing the state of Tennessee. The newest one is at Tennessee 196 and Interstate 40, near Gallaway. This is going to be a huge location at over 74,000 square feet. Kentucky

Recently, it was announced that Buc-ee’s would also be planting another location in Kentucky. Oak Grove, Kentucky, to be exact. The plans were approved by the city council and the project is moving forward. This will be the third location in the Bluegrass State.

Fort Pierce, FL

The residents of Florida will have a fourth Buc-ee’s location to get excited about in the near future. Florida’s newest location will be near Indrio Road and I-95. Arizona

The year 2025 is going to be a good one for the citizens of Goodyear, Arizona. The new Buc-ee’s location will be opening this year or next. Mississippi

The new Buc-ee’s in Mississippi is expected to finally open its doors in 2025. The huge 74,000-square-foot building will be in Pass Christians on I-10 at Exit 24. This is a massive undertaking and it’s said the project has cost $50 million. Needless to say, there’s a lot to look forward to out there.

Louisiana

In the near future, you’ll find a new location coming to Ruston, Louisiana along I-20. When it’s finished, that is. The project is supposed to break ground this year and it could be completed in 2025.

Arkansas

Arkansas will be getting its first-ever Buc-ee’s location in the near future. The city council has approved plans for construction and it should be completed soon. It will be located off of Interstate 30 in Benton, Arkansas.

Florida Location #2

If you live in Ocala, Florida, then you’re in luck. Yet another big-time gas station will be planting roots in your community. Not only will you be getting all of the goodies associated with Buc-ee’s, but it will be on another level. At 80,000 square feet, this is set to be the largest location they’ve ever made.

Georgia

There’s a third location coming to Georgia this year or next. It will be located in Brunswick at 7156 Highway 99. Like many others, this new Buc-ee’s will have 120 fueling stations, so you’ll never be without gas. The interior will be a massive 74,000 square feet.

North Carolina

The first location will be making its way to North Carolina. This 74,000-square-foot store will be located in Mebane, NC and will have over 100 fueling stations and many charging stations for electric cars. The new store should be opening in 2025.

Ohio

Buc-ee’s will also be debuting in the state of Ohio in 2025. The new location will be in Huber Heights, Ohio. This will be another huge 74,000-square-foot facility and will be located off of Interstate 70. The gas station may open in 2025 or 2026.

Virginia

The popular gas station chain is also expanding into Virginia for the first time. They will be breaking ground in Rockingham County on Friedens Church Road. The construction may be completed this year or next. When all is said and done, the location will be 74,000 square feet, have 120 fueling stations, and employ close to 200 people.

Kansas City

It seems like the city of Kansas City can’t help but win. In addition to having a Super Bowl-winning football team, the city will also be getting its first Buc-ee’s. Construction is beginning this year, and it may open by the end of 2025.

Colorado

Recently, the company opened another location in Johnstown, Colorado. This one is a bit smaller than some of the other stations in the country, but it still offers the same great fuel and goodies.

2 Texas Locations

People in Texas really love going to this gas station, so they’ll be happy about having two more in the Lone Star State. The new locations will be in Amarillo and Boerne. Both locations will be huge and they’ll be opening in 2025 or 2026.

These 14 Outback Steakhouse Meals Are Loaded with Calories https://www.momswhothink.com/these-outback-steakhouse-meals-are-loaded-with-calories/ https://www.momswhothink.com/these-outback-steakhouse-meals-are-loaded-with-calories/#respond Mon, 17 Feb 2025 17:48:23 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=221521&preview=true&preview_id=221521 The post These 14 Outback Steakhouse Meals Are Loaded with Calories appeared first on Moms Who Think.

Outback Steakhouse continues to be one of the best chain restaurants for folks looking for an affordable steak in a pleasant atmosphere. There are numerous tasty meals to try at Outback, but many of them are far from healthy. It’s important that you look at the nutritional facts when you’re ordering here because many of the meals are loaded with calories. Eating too many calories is bad for your health, so that’s why we have created this list of Outback Steakhouse meals you should probably avoid.

Sadly, many of the dishes that people love at Outback Steakhouse are loaded with calories, including the burgers, quesadillas, and many of the appetizers. It’s best to eat them in moderation or share them with friends. Keep reading to see if your favorite dish is on this list.

Why Are Calories Bad?

We think it’s important to tell you about the Outback Steakhouse meals to avoid because any food that is loaded with calories is bad for you. When you consume too many calories, you’re looking at the increased potential of weight gain and obesity. If you don’t exercise and also try to burn calories, you could be looking at life-threatening ailments like diabetes and heart disease.

Health professionals recommend consuming less than 3,000 calories in a day. Many of the Outback Steakhouse meals have close to 3,000 calories. If you eat there occasionally, you’ll be fine. But if you eat unhealthy food day after day, you’ll be asking for trouble.

Loaded Bloomin’ Onion

If this restaurant is known for anything, it’s their Bloomin’ Onion. We hate to break it to you, but it’s one of the Outback Steakhouse meals that you should probably avoid. If you get the Loaded version, you’ll be consuming 2,960 calories, which is as much as you should have in an entire day. The worst part is that the Bloomin’ Onion is just an appetizer. Meaning that you may eat this before eating the rest of your meal. Be careful about how much you consume.

Steak Quesadilla

The great thing about a restaurant like Outback Steakhouse is that you have a large menu with a variety of items, including steak quesadillas. However, you need to be cautious. If you only eat the quesadilla, you’ll be okay, but if you get it with the recommended side of fries, then you’ll be consuming 2,000 calories. Plus, there are over 3,000 mg of sodium and 125 grams of fat.

Alice Springs Chicken Quesadilla

You need to be careful with any quesadilla that you order at Outback Steakhouse, including the Alice Springs Chicken Quesadilla. When prepared correctly, chicken can actually be a healthy choice, but not when it’s loaded with honey mustard sauce. If you order the regular size, you’ll be consuming 1,620 calories and almost 100 grams of fat.

Chicken Fried Steak With Homestyle Mashed Potatoes

Many people enjoy going to restaurants like Cracker Barrel and Outback Steakhouse to get a tasty dish of chicken fried steak. It may be delicious, but it’s also loaded with calories. This dish at Outback has a lot of calories, especially if you get it with mashed potatoes. All in all, you’ll be looking at 1,800 calories, which is dangerously close to your daily recommended maximum. It also has 4,560 mg of sodium, which is two times the amount that is recommended by health experts.

Chicken Fried Chicken With Homestyle Mashed Potatoes

Just like with the chicken fried steak, you should also be careful with the chicken fried chicken, especially if you order it with the homestyle mashed potatoes. This one is a little healthier, but it still has 1,630 calories, which is half of what you should consume in a day. The meal also contains 4,100 milligrams of sodium and 102 grams of fat.

Aussie Sampler

Some people go to Outback Steakhouse, uncertain about what they plan to order, and end up choosing the Aussie Sampler to get a few different items. It contains Steakhouse Mac & Cheese Bites, Aussie Cheese Fries, and Onion Petals. It’s best to share this dish with others. If you eat it all on your own, you’ll be eating 1,780 calories along with 125 grams of fat.

Chocolate Tower

If you’re not already stuffed after dinner, you may be tempted to order dessert. If you do, you may want to get it to-go because whatever you choose is likely to be loaded with calories. One of the most dangerous desserts is the Chocolate Tower. It’s exactly what it sounds like – a huge block of chocolate cake. Beware that one slice of that cake contains 1,780 calories, which is the same as many of the standard dishes at the restaurant.

Chocolate Thunder From Down Under

When you see an item with a name like this on the dessert menu, you’re likely to be tempted to try it at least once. That would be fine, but don’t go overboard. This dessert is a large pecan brownie covered in chocolate sauce, ice cream, and whipped cream. It’s a lot to eat on your own, and it has 1,500 calories and 120 grams of sugar.

Aussie Cheese Fries

Another one of the famous Outback Steakhouse meals is the Aussie Cheese Fries. This is a huge dish of fries covered with two types of cheese, ranch dressing, and bacon. If you get the large size, you’ll be consuming 117 grams of fat and 1,770 calories. The fries are good, so feel free to try them, but share them with friends.

Crab Cakes

Always be cautious when you order the crab cakes. Seafood is often considered to be healthier than other types of food, but this one isn’t. Sometimes served as an appetizer or entree, the crab cakes are deep-fried and pumped full of fat. When you eat three crab cakes, you’ll be consuming 1,470 calories and close to 120 grams of fat.

Kookaburra Wings

Kookaburra Wings are the chicken wings on the menu at Outback Steakhouse. This is an appetizer dish that contains about 1,450 calories. You have some control over how many calories you’re consuming by being cautious of how much or how little blue cheese or ranch you use while you eat, but even the wings only are calorie-dense. This appetizer also has 3,700 milligrams of sodium due to the combination of spices on the chicken.

Baby Back Ribs

You may be tempted to get a tasty dish of Baby Back Ribs, but it’s one of the Outback Steakhouse meals that you should probably avoid if you value your health. If you must order it, avoid the full order, which contains 2,200 milligrams of sodium and 1,410 calories. The side of fries adds to the calorie count.

Blue Cheese Bacon Burger

The final meal on the Outback Steakhouse menu you should avoid is the Blue Cheese Bacon Burger. This won’t be on every menu around the country and that’s probably a good thing. The burger is covered with cheese and bacon, and it all adds up. Altogether, the burger has 1,380 calories, 2,160 milligrams of sodium, and 86 grams of fat.

If you ever find yourself on the West Coast and you’re looking for a good meal, you need to stop at In-N-Out Burger at least once. The restaurant has been around forever, and the company started many of the fast-food trends that we know today. Plus, all of the food is incredibly fresh. You’ll place your order and then watch as the cook prepares your burger and makes your fries from scratch. Needless to say, there are In-N-Out menu items that you need to try, but not everything here is worth your money.

At first glance, it may seem like your options are limited at In-N-Out, but there’s actually a secret menu that’s loaded with additional options. However, many of those items are not worth the price. On this list, we’ll cover nine items that you can probably skip and three that you should definitely try the next time you’re at In-N-Out.

Skip the 3X3 Burger

The first of the In-N-Out menu items you can probably skip is the 3X3 Burger. If you’re at the restaurant and you’re not seeing that on the menu, it’s because it isn’t advertised to just anyone. Instead, this is one of the many items on this list that can be found on their “secret menu.”

Technically, the menu isn’t so secret since it’s published online. Either way, you’ll need to ask specifically for the 3X3 Burger, which has three beef patties and three slices of American cheese. However, you need to be careful. If a single burger has 360 calories and 660 mg of sodium, just imagine how unhealthy this larger burger will be for you!

Skip the 4X4 Burger

Another famous entry on the In-N-Out secret menu is the 4X4. This is like the regular cheeseburger, but they put four beef patties and four pieces of cheese between two buns. Just like with the 3X3, you’re asking for health problems if you eat this huge burger on a regular basis. Trust us, the regular In-N-Out burger is delicious enough – just get one of those and save yourself the heart attack later on.

Skip the Animal Style Fries

One of the best In-N-Out menu items is the side of fries. The fries are world-famous because they’re made fresh in a way that you don’t see anywhere else. While you wait for your order, you can literally watch the employees cutting whole potatoes and preparing your meal. However, there’s a selection on the secret menu called Animal Style Fries.

This is an order of fries that’s topped with cheese and grilled onions. If you’re not a fan of onions, it can be tough to remove them, so the whole meal may be tarnished. You’re better off paying for the regular cheese fries.

Skip the Cold Cheese

There are many wacky items on the In-N-Out secret menu. If you know what to ask for, the employees will be happy to oblige. One of the items that most people won’t have an interest in is the “cold cheese” option. It’s just like it sounds. Instead of getting the warm, gooey cheese that we all love, ask for the cold cheese, and they will literally equip your burger with a slice of cold cheese. There may be someone out there who likes this idea, but for most of us, it’s better to save our money.

Skip the Flying Dutchman

There’s another interesting item on the secret menu that you probably don’t need to order. It’s called the Flying Dutchman. When you order it, you’ll get two beef patties and two slices of cheese – except they put the cheese on the inside of the beef patties. That may seem normal until you realize that they don’t serve it with buns or lettuce. They just hand you the beef patties and you eat the meal like that. Needless to say, you should save your money.

Skip the Fries Light or Well Done

The fries at In-N-Out are one of the highlights of eating at the restaurant. They’re so fresh and well-seasoned that there’s no reason to mess with them, but there are options. One option is to ask for the fries to be “light.”

That means they are lightly fried and less crispy. You can also get your fries “well done.” Meaning they’re extremely crispy and likely not that appetizing. Either way, we don’t recommend that you spend any money to get one of these unsavory options.

Skip the Tomato Wrap

Many people want to go to In-N-Out, but they also want to be healthy. One way that you can try to reduce the fat is to order a Tomato Wrap off the secret menu. This is any burger of your choosing (regular, double, 3X3, 4X4) but instead of the meat being placed between buns, it’s placed between tomato slices. There’s nothing wrong with trying to be healthy, but we recommend you make a meal like this at home instead, and you can save a lot of money.

Skip the Wish Burger

Proving that there are In-N-Out menu items for everyone, we present the Wish Burger. This is their version of a veggie burger. The restaurant won’t have veggie patties available. Instead, if you ask for the Wish Burger, you’ll get a “burger” that is only made up of lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, and onions in between two buns. There’s nothing wrong with being vegan or vegetarian, but you can make this at home with a few ingredients that you likely already have in your refrigerator.

Skip the Mustard-Grilled

This one is a matter of preference. If you don’t love mustard, then don’t waste your money on this item. If you order it, the cook will spread mustard on top of the beef patty. Then, they flip it over and grill it on the mustard side until it’s done. It’s a way to add more flavor to the burger, but if you don’t like mustard very much, then you’re probably not going to enjoy this item.

Try the Hamburger With Onion

When it comes to the best In-N-Out menu items, you can’t go wrong with the standard hamburger or cheeseburger with onion. Order it as it is without the unnecessary frills and you won’t be disappointed. The burger is incredibly fresh and the flavors are on point. Get the meal and you’ll also get those amazing fries. Wash it all down with a beverage of your choice, and you’ll be in heaven.

Try the Neapolitan Shake

One of the items on the secret menu that you absolutely must try is the Neapolitan shake. As you would expect, this is a delicious ice cream shake that combines the flavors of vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. The ice cream at In-N-Out is just as good as anything else on the menu. It’s high-quality and tasty, and with this dessert, you get the best of everything.

Try the Double-Double With Onion

Finally, one of the In-N-Out menu items that you should try at least once is the famous Double-Double. This is just like the standard hamburger or cheeseburger, except you get two patties! You shouldn’t eat this every day because that wouldn’t be healthy. However, if you go to the restaurant here and there, then you should try it some of the time. The patties are cooked perfectly and the toppings are great.

The 12 Most Unhealthy Cereal Brands for Kids – and 3 Replacements https://www.momswhothink.com/the-most-unhealthy-cereal-brands-for-kids-and-replacements/ https://www.momswhothink.com/the-most-unhealthy-cereal-brands-for-kids-and-replacements/#respond Sun, 16 Feb 2025 16:34:25 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=202442&preview=true&preview_id=202442 The post The 12 Most Unhealthy Cereal Brands for Kids – and 3 Replacements appeared first on Moms Who Think.

No matter how the world changes, one thing always remains constant: kids love to eat cereal for breakfast. There’s nothing like sitting down with a heaping bowl of your favorite colorful concoction at the breakfast table or in front of the TV. However, not all cereals are created equal. There are many unhealthy cereal brands out there, and you need to be informed to set your kids up for success each day.

Yes, as you may imagine, many of the classic cereals that we have enjoyed for decades are not exactly healthy. From Franken Berry to Lucky Charms, these cereals are loaded with sugar, dyes, artificial flavors, and other unsavory ingredients. To help you find the best options, we have this list of several unhealthy cereals and a few healthy alternatives.

Avoid: Franken Berry

If you value the health of your kids, you should avoid Franken Berry cereal. This is one of the most unhealthy cereal brands because it’s loaded with sugar. Every serving that your kids eat has 11 grams of sugar. For reference, most medical experts recommend getting less than 36 grams of sugar in a day, so this is a lot for breakfast. On that note, you should also avoid Boo Berry cereal for the same reason.

Avoid: Cookie Crisp

Cookie Crisp is another cereal you and your kids should avoid. It’s loaded with sugar and has 140 calories per serving. It also has a ton of sodium and not enough protein. There’s a lot of downsides to this cereal, so be careful. That may be easier said than done since your kids will likely get excited about cookies for breakfast, but try your best.

Avoid: Lucky Charms

Lucky Charms is one of the most famous of all children’s cereals. It’s also one of the most unhealthy cereal brands. Most cereals that are loaded with marshmallows are going to be unhealthy because they contain a lot of sugar and artificial flavors that aren’t doing your kids any favors. Each serving also has 140 calories and a ton of sodium.

Avoid: Froot Loops

Froot Loops are another of the most famous but also most unhealthy cereal brands. One bowl of this cereal comes with 150 calories, 210 mg of sodium, and 34 g of carbs. Various artificial flavors and fruit dyes give the cereal its color, but they aren’t exactly healthy. If you’re going to let your kids eat Froot Loops, make it a small serving and pair it with some actual fruit.

Avoid: Fruity Pebbles

A big trend that you’ll see on this list is that many of the most unhealthy cereals are also the most colorful. Fruity Pebbles is another example. There’s a ton of sugar in each bowl in addition to 150 calories, 1.5 grams of fat, and 31 grams of carbs. Plus, this is one of many cereals that uses a food preservative called butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT). It’s an ingredient that was once found to be linked to cancer in rodents.

Avoid: Frosted Flakes

The name alone will likely give you the impression that Frosted Flakes are not the healthiest cereal in the world. The cereal is known for its sweet taste, which is made possible due to a heaping serving of sugar per bowl. A whole bowl has 12 grams of sugar, which is almost half of the recommended maximum for the day. Plus, Frosted Flakes have a lot of calories and carbs.

Avoid: Trix

They say that Trix is for kids, but you may want to keep your children away from this unhealthy cereal. It’s loaded with sugar, has over 160 calories per serving, and two grams of fat per bowl. Plus, the cereal has many different artificial colors and flavors.

Avoid: Reese’s Puffs

Reese’s Puffs are easily one of the most unhealthy cereal brands you can find. It’s essentially like eating an entire bowl of candy and there’s very little nutritional value involved. To start, each bowl has 9 grams of sugar, 220 mg of sodium, and 30 grams of carbs. However, the worst part is 4.5 grams of fat in every serving. That’s more than any other cereal on this list so far. Be careful not to eat too much of this.

Avoid: Apple Jacks

Don’t be fooled just because there’s a fruit in the title because Apple Jacks are far from healthy. On the bright side, the cereal does have some grains as part of the ingredients, which provide some minerals and vitamins. However, the cereal is not really good for kids. It has a lot of sodium and 13 grams of sugar per serving, which is a big portion of your daily maximum.

Avoid: Cocoa Puffs

Cocoa Puffs are all about chocolate, so it’s not hard to imagine them not being super healthy. On the positive side, a serving of the cereal does provide a good amount of iron, but that’s where it ends. Each serving also includes 14 grams of sugar and 300mg of sodium. Plus, there’s 3.3 grams of saturated fat in each bowl, so it’s not a good start to the morning.

Avoid: Corn Pops

Corn Pops may seem innocent enough. They’re not very colorful and they have the word “corn” in the title. But don’t be fooled. Corn Pops are one of the most unhealthy cereal brands. One serving contains a lot of sugar, 160 mg of sodium, and plenty of carbs. Plus, the cereal contains annatto extract, which adds the color. It is an element that has been added to allergic reactions.

Avoid: Cap’n Crunch

Don’t be fooled – the Captain does not have your child’s best interest at heart. Each serving is loaded with sugar, calories, fat, sodium, and carbohydrates. Just like all of these bad cereals, stick to this one in moderation. This cereal also includes the BHT ingredient that has been linked to rat cancer, so eat it with caution.

Try: Multigrain Cheerios

Most varieties of Cheerios are among the healthiest cereals you or your kids can eat. They have little sugar and they provide a good amount of protein, which a growing body needs. The best form of Cheerios from a health standpoint is the original version. However, if you want more flavor, go for multigrain. The cereal only contains 6 grams of sugar, which is far less than many competitors and it contains a good amount of protein.

Try: Chex

If your kids want a tasty cereal but you’re concerned about sugar content, try any of the versions of Chex. Whether it’s Cinnamon, Honey Nut, or Chocolate Chex, you’ll be in decent shape. At the most, these cereals contain 10 grams of sugar. It’s not ideal, but it’s less than the competitors. Your kids will be fine if they eat it in moderation.

Try: Kix

They say that Kix is “kid-tested, parent-approved,” and they’re not wrong. This is one of the healthiest mainstream cereals on the market. The cereal only has three grams of sugar per serving and it contains both fiber and protein, which are essential for growing bodies. The cereal also has enough flavor to keep kids interested.

Once My Favorite Restaurant, These 6 Factors Made Me Stop Going to Cracker Barrel https://www.momswhothink.com/once-my-favorite-restaurant-these-factors-made-me-stop-going-to-cracker-barrel/ https://www.momswhothink.com/once-my-favorite-restaurant-these-factors-made-me-stop-going-to-cracker-barrel/#respond Sun, 16 Feb 2025 00:46:37 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=265677&preview=true&preview_id=265677 The post Once My Favorite Restaurant, These 6 Factors Made Me Stop Going to Cracker Barrel appeared first on Moms Who Think.

For years, I enjoyed nothing more than going out for dinner at Cracker Barrel. I loved their huge menu with so many items to choose from and even the store that’s connected to the restaurant where you can purchase candy and goodies. However, the more I looked into this chain restaurant, the less I found myself enjoying my visits. The six reasons below are why I chose to stop going to Cracker Barrel.

There are a variety of reasons why I stopped going so often. I’ve learned that many of the dishes just aren’t very healthy. There are also some dark spots in Cracker Barrel’s past that have turned me off to their restaurant. Check out my list and see if you agree.

Factor 1: The Long Wait Times

Even if you enjoy the food at Cracker Barrel, most people will admit that the wait time to be seated is often too long. They don’t really work on a reservation system, so you have no choice but to walk in, tell the host the size of your party, and then ask how long it will take to be seated. Typically, it can be 15-20 minutes or longer.

The Wait at Cracker Barrel Can Be Tough

When most people go to Cracker Barrel, it’s because they know they’re going to get a large meal. So, many of us go there hungry on purpose – but that can make the wait unbearable. They try to help by giving you that gift shop to wait in. The only problem is that it is filled with candy that only makes you more hungry.

Factor 2: The Food is Expensive

When you go to Cracker Barrel, you know you’re in store for tasty comfort food. The menu is so attractive that you end up ordering more than you intended. While it may be a great experience while you’re at the table, when it comes time for the bill, reality hits you like a slap on the face. You find that you’re spending a fortune and it can be a major red flag. That’s why, for many, visits to Cracker Barrel are few and far between.

The Expense is Hurting Cracker Barrel, Too

You only need to go to Cracker Barrel once or twice to see how expensive it really is, which is one of the main reasons I stopped going. If you also feel this way, know that you’re not alone. In fact, in 2023, the CEO admitted that traffic levels in their restaurants were dropping for several quarters in a row. The reason they believed that they were losing customers was due to inflation and rising costs across the restaurant industry. Things have not changed much since then. The costs are still high and it’s certainly a big reason to stop going to Cracker Barrel.

Factor 3: Cracker Barrel Has Had a Lot of Scandals

Whether you believe them or not, it’s hard to ignore the fact that Cracker Barrel has had a fair share of scandals over the years. There have been some perceived scandals that were racist in nature, such as one restaurant allegedly having a decorative noose, lawsuits about potential racist behavior, and the fact that some people believed that there was an image of a whip hidden in the restaurant’s logo. Most of these lawsuits were settled out of court, but they sure didn’t improve Cracker Barrel’s reputation.

Other Cracker Barrel Scandals

Over the years, there have also been other scandals at Cracker Barrel that have turned some people off of the restaurant. At one point, a diner sued the restaurant because they claimed that there was a harmful chemical in their drink. In the spring of 2021, Cracker Barrel was sued by several employees who felt that they weren’t being paid fairly. Again, more research would need to be completed to gauge the validity of these scandals but just hearing about them has made some diners skeptical of the restaurant.

Factor 4: There are Better Places to Go

I won’t lie – Cracker Barrel used to be one of my restaurants. However, the more I started looking around, the more I started to see alternative eateries that were just as good, if not better, and many of them were also more affordable. If you want to stop going to Cracker Barrel, then look for alternative places online. You may even find that some of the restaurants in your local area are better.

Alternatives to Cracker Barrel

The great thing about a place like Cracker Barrel is that it serves just about everything. So, think about what you like, and there’s likely an alternative restaurant that’ll serve your needs. Like the breakfast foods? Places like IHOP and Denny’s have what you need at more affordable price points. Do you like the steak and potatoes? How about going to Texas Roadhouse or The Cheesecake Factory? If you like places that provide many options, then you always have Applebee’s, Ruby Tuesday, and Chili’s.

Factor 5: The Food is Loaded With Calories

One of the biggest reasons why I started to turn from Cracker Barrel is because I realized just how unhealthy the food is. Among many other reasons, the food is high in calories. If you want to be healthy, you should pay attention to your caloric intake throughout the day. At the most, you will likely consume about 3,000 calories in a day. Some of the items at Cracker Barrel have half that for just one plate. Consuming too many calories and overeating can lead to weight gain and increased risk of heart disease and cancer, among other dangerous effects.

Cracker Barrel Items With a Lot of Calories

Most items at Cracker Barrel will have a lot of calories, but there are some you should avoid or at least eat in moderation. For instance, if you order the Sunday Homestyle Chicken and French Toast, you’ll be eating 1,500 calories. Go for breakfast and eat the Steak n’ Egg Hashbrown Casserole and you’ll be having over 1,000 calories for just that one meal. The Country Fried Pork Chops are also over 1,000 calories. During lunch, ordering the Sunday Homestyle Chicken BLT will fill you with over 1,100 calories. Be careful what you order.

Factor 6: The Food is Also Loaded With Sodium

The final reason I chose to stop going to Cracker Barrel is due to the immense sodium content in much of their menu offerings. Some of the options have over 2,000 mg of sodium. Health experts recommend only having a max of 2,300 mg of sodium in an entire day. Too much sodium can raise your blood pressure, which can lead to heart failure and stroke. Eating foods with too much salt can also lead to migraines and swollen hands and feet.

Cracker Barrel Items With Tons of Sodium

There are numerous items at Cracker Barrel that are big trouble when it comes to sodium. That Sunday Homestyle Chicken and French Toast we mentioned earlier also have 2,190 milligrams of sodium, which is basically your daily allowance. Another dish, the Country Fried Shrimp with Hushpuppies and Cocktail Sauce, has just over 2,000 mg of sodium. Then there is the chicken pot pie, which seems harmless enough. However, it has 2,740 mg sodium, which is well over how much you should comsume in an entire day.

Finally! Dutch Bros Coffee Is Expanding Into These 20 Areas https://www.momswhothink.com/finally-dutch-bros-coffee-is-expanding-into-these-areas/ https://www.momswhothink.com/finally-dutch-bros-coffee-is-expanding-into-these-areas/#respond Sun, 16 Feb 2025 00:46:36 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=265676&preview=true&preview_id=265676 The post Finally! Dutch Bros Coffee Is Expanding Into These 20 Areas appeared first on Moms Who Think.

If you’ve ever searched for coffee in the Western United States, you’ve likely stumbled upon a Dutch Bros coffee shop. If not, you’ll recognize it by the long line of cars circling the building. People love this coffee shop because it serves a variety of tasty beverages, including tea, lemonade, and energy drinks. Many people prefer this chain to other popular options, like Starbucks.

That’s why there’s so much excitement when a Dutch Bros goes up in a new neighborhood. People are willing to wait for those refreshing drinks. Luckily, the company has put a lot of emphasis on growth and expansion over the last several years, so if you don’t have a location near you now, you likely will in the future. Here is a list of the confirmed locations of 20 new Dutch Bros coffee shops. Don’t worry – there’s plenty more to come!

What is Dutch Bros?

Dutch Bros is a popular coffee chain in the United States. It’s so popular that many people consider themselves to be either team Dutch Bros or team Starbucks, and they get very defensive about their choice. The chain was started back in 1992. In addition to making tasty beverages, the chain is also known for helping the community and giving back to underserved folks. Dutch Bros sells coffee, energy drinks, and many other fun beverages.

What Makes Dutch Bros Different?

Dutch Bros is similar to other major coffee chains in that they serve tasty, caffeinated beverages. However, they also bring some unique features to the table. The coffees are highly customizable, and the service is super fast. In addition to coffee, they also sell sodas, lemonade, tea, and more. Another difference between them and many other chains is that Dutch Bros locations don’t have indoor seating. The final big difference that separates Dutch Bros from the competition is their prices. The beverages are typically more affordable than drinks at Starbucks and other coffee shops.

Best Dutch Bros Beverages

Dutch bros drinks

So, what’s good at Dutch Bros? It depends on what you like. Many of the lemonade drinks are awesome. They also have a large selection of energy drinks that you won’t find anywhere else. The flavors include electric berry, double rainbro, aftershock, and shark attack, amongst others. Some of the most desirable coffee drinks include the Cocomo, which is a mocha and coconut mixture, and the 9-1-1, which has a whopping six shots of espresso and Irish cream. Finally, there is a slew of tasty iced tea flavors, from strawberry and passion fruit to their famous palm beach, which is a combination of pomegranate and peach.

Where Are Dutch Bros Restaurants Located Now?

Dutch Bros is one of many restaurants that started in the state of Oregon. They began as a small stand, and now they have expanded to many other states across the nation. A majority of the Dutch Bros locations are still in the West, in states like California, Idaho, and Arizona. However, you can now find their shops in Texas, Georgia, and Florida. The chain continues to grow, so if you don’t have a Dutch Bros restaurant within driving distance right now, you may have one soon. The company is looking to expand to over 4,000 locations in the coming years.

Arizona

There are two new Dutch Bros locations in Arizona. The two locations are at 9965 W. Van Buren St. in Tolleson and 9145 N. 91st Ave. in Peoria. Dutch Bros currently has a large store population in Arizona. In fact, they plan to move 40% of their support staff to Arizona. If you love Dutch Bros, Arizona is the place to be.

Colorado

Currently, Dutch Bros has a number of locations in Colorado. The newest one is at 1826 S. Academy Blvd. in Colorado Springs. This is great news if you live in Colorado Springs because the company now has 11 stores in that town alone.

Florida

The coffee giant has been expanding rather quickly in Florida, and new locations have popped up during 2024. They show no signs of stopping, as there will be several new locations to come in 2025. The newest locations are in Davenport, Orlando, Clermont, Winter Park, St. Augustine, Jacksonville, and Jacksonville.

California

By the end of 2025, there will be five new Dutch Bros locations in California. The newest stores are in Escondido and La Habra. There are also two in Vista, but one of them won’t be open until at least the end of the year. Although the date has yet to be confirmed, there will also be a new location in Laguna Hills, which will likely open in 2025.

Kansas

The company has been making a big appearance in Kansas lately. There will be one more location coming to the town of Lawrence, which will now make 13 locations in the state. The newest location is at 2531 Iowa St.

Missouri

In 2024, there were reports that a new Dutch Bros location was coming to St. Louis, but the information is not yet verified. However, according to real estate company Noble Properties, they have a listing for what will become a Dutch Bros Coffee at 982 Bryan Road in O’Fallon, Missouri. Word is that the city council has voted and approved the construction of the coffee company there. Still, the future remains to be seen.

Texas

There are already quite a few Dutch Bros restaurants in the Lone Star State, including in San Antonio and surrounding communities. The newest location will be in Austin. It will be the third restaurant in the town, and will be located at 1910 W. Ben White Blvd. where the old Long John Silver’s used to be.

Another Dutch Bros location has been rumored for a while in the city of Seguin. The exact location is supposed to be 2555 N. Highway 123 Bypass. However, that may be subject to change, so believe it when you see it.

Texas-New Braunfels Location

One of the newest Dutch Bros opened last year and is located at 934 Hwy. 46 W. in New Braunfels. This was an exciting development for the people of the area. It’s the second restaurant in the town.

Big-Time Expansion

The Dutch Bros coffee company has big plans. They intend to expand across many states and reach over 4,000 locations. As of the third quarter of 2024, the company had opened 950 new restaurants across 18 states, and they show no signs of stopping. Part of the reason why the company is able to expand so much is because the restaurants are all very small. Many of them have the square footage of a studio apartment, so all they need is a building and a parking lot, and they can go almost anywhere.

What Happens Next?

So what’s happening in 2025 and beyond? More expansion! According to a recent earnings call, the company plans to open at least 160 new locations in 2025 and 2026. The CEO said that the “pipeline is strong” and that things are moving along well.

Food Is in the Future?

Another exciting announcement from the Dutch Bros CEO is that they have been testing food sales in several of the restaurants. If things go well, the food options could go nationwide. Just imagine getting a donut or pastry with your tasty coffee! The company earned hundreds of millions of dollars last year, so the sky is the limit.

13 Sugar Filled Drinks to Avoid at Dunkin’ https://www.momswhothink.com/sugar-filled-drinks-to-avoid-at-dunkin/ https://www.momswhothink.com/sugar-filled-drinks-to-avoid-at-dunkin/#respond Sat, 15 Feb 2025 01:18:13 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=221519&preview=true&preview_id=221519 The post 13 Sugar Filled Drinks to Avoid at Dunkin’ appeared first on Moms Who Think.

If you’re like me, you need a strong caffeinated beverage to get you ready for a big day of work, parenting, commuting, and everything else. The coffee that usually does the job for me is at Dunkin’ with their large selection of hot and cold beverages. However, when I started to look at the nutritional information on the drinks I was purchasing, I realized what they contained – a lot of sugar.

You may be surprised at some of the most sugar-filled drinks currently available at Dunkin’. Many drinks, including cold brews, lattes, cappuccinos, and even some of the black coffee options, contain more sugar than you should have in an entire day. To help you stay healthy, I’ve compiled this list of sugar-filled drinks to avoid at Dunkin’.

What’s Wrong With Sugar

When you go out for coffee or eat out in general, you need to be cautious of consuming too much sugar. Eating too much sugar can put your body in danger. According to the CDC, having too much sugar on a regular basis can lead to serious ailments including heart disease, obesity, weight gain, type 2 diabetes, and more. That’s why it’s so serious when kids eat too much sugar. They could experience health problems that will stick with them as they get older.

How Much is Too Much Sugar?

The risk of too much sugar is serious. That’s why it’s important to look at the nutritional information when you place your order. According to Heart.org, men should consume no more than 36 grams of sugar and women should have no more than 25 grams of sugar per day. As you’ll see on this list, many of the drinks at Dunkin’ and other fast food restaurants have a sugar content that is dangerously high. Be cautious of the drinks on this list if you value your health.

Cold Brew Coffee With Cream and Sugar

First on the list of sugar-filled drinks to avoid at Dunkin’ is just about any cold brew coffee with cream and sugar. A simple glass of coffee doesn’t seem that bad, but when it’s ordered without modifications, you’ll get 27 grams of sugar. That’s more than your daily allowance. Think about that if this is the first beverage you get in the morning.

Caramel Cold Brew with Sweet Cold Foam

If you’re looking to add more oomph to your coffee by going for a caramel cold brew, you may be getting even more sugar than you realize. When you order this drink as it comes, you’ll be getting 49 grams of sugar. That’s more than twice your daily allowance. If you drink this every day or you drink more than one per day, you’ll be in bad shape.

Strawberry Coolatta

Most Dunkin’ restaurants will offer either a blue raspberry or strawberry coolatta. Both can be very tasty when you need something refreshing without the added caffeine. Sugar is added to provide more flavor. However, if you get the medium coolatta, you’ll also be taking in 83 grams of sugar. That’s a massive amount. Do yourself a favor and get a healthy smoothie elsewhere instead.

Caramel Swirl Frozen Coffee

One of the sugar-filled drinks to avoid at Dunkin’ is the Caramel Swirl Frozen Coffee, especially if it’s made of whole milk. It’s hard to avoid ordering this when you see it on the menu. It’s a tasty coffee beverage covered with whipped cream and a caramel drizzle – who wouldn’t want to order that? Well, you shouldn’t. The drink contains 134 grams of added sugar. That’s enough to cause major health issues over time.

French Vanilla Swirl Hot Cappuccino

Most people don’t go to Dunkin’ for a regular black coffee. They want a little more of a flavor punch. That’s why many folks go for the French Vanilla Swirl Hot Cappuccino. However, if you’re one of them, be careful. A medium of this beverage will contain 45 grams of sugar, which is above your daily recommended maximum.

French Vanilla Swirl Frozen Chocolate

This amazing drink has it all. Tons of frozen ice cream, a heaping serving of whipped cream, and a swirl of chocolate on top. It’s like a liquified dessert that provides the caffeine you need to get through the day. The downside is that the drink also has 124 grams of sugar. That’s more than you should have in several days so be careful with this one.

Caramel Swirl Hot Coffee

If you are going to order black coffee with the idea that it’s the healthiest option, then you’ll want to avoid the extra frills. Case in point: the Caramel Swirl Hot Coffee. When you order this hot beverage, you’ll be getting 38 grams of sugar.

Caramel Swirl Hot Coffee with Cream

This is another one of the sugar-filled drinks to avoid at Dunkin’. If the regular caramel swirl hot coffee is unhealthy, adding cream makes it worse. This combination provides 40 grams of sugar, which is really pushing it. It may taste better, but if you have a few of these in one day, your health may take a hit.

Caramel Swirl Hot Latte

A latte is a great choice for a caffeine pickup. That’s why it’s one of the most popular drinks at any coffee shop. Add a caramel swirl to the mix, and you’ll have a recipe for deliciousness. However, they may have made it too tasty. As a result, the drink has 52 grams of sugar, which is a lot for a single beverage.

Caramel Craze Signature Hot Latte

The Caramel Craze Signature Hot Latte is another of the most delicious-looking coffee drinks you’ll ever see. It has that amazing caramel drizzle and the option for whipped cream. It’s mouthwatering indeed. However, it’s also full of sugar – 57 grams, to be exact. It’s a lot for one drink, and it’s bad for your health.

French Vanilla Swirl Hot Macchiato

This French vanilla treat is great for a cold day, and it has the caffeine you need to get through a long day at work. However, it also has an enormous amount of sugar. With 45 grams of sugar, you’re asking for trouble. It’s fine to order once in a while but don’t go overboard.

Butter Pecan Swirl

You also need to be careful when ordering an iced cappuccino at Dunkin’ because you may get more than you bargained for. One of the most dangerous cappuccinos is the Butter Pecan Swirl, which has 45 grams of sugar. Be cautious not to drink this too often. Instead, go for the standard iced cappuccino, which has a fraction of the sugar.

Sweet Tea

The last of the sugar-filled drinks to avoid at Dunkin’ is the standard sweet tea. To make the drink so tasty and sweet, it requires a lot of sugar. This one has a whopping 58 grams of sugar. You’re better off making the same drink at home. You’ll save money and you’ll likely have a healthier beverage.

I Always Thought Dyson Was the Best Vacuum, But These 8 Alternatives Are Great at a Fraction the Price https://www.momswhothink.com/the-best-dyson-alternatives-at-a-fraction-the-price/ https://www.momswhothink.com/the-best-dyson-alternatives-at-a-fraction-the-price/#respond Fri, 14 Feb 2025 02:22:30 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=226205&preview=true&preview_id=226205 The post I Always Thought Dyson Was the Best Vacuum, But These 8 Alternatives Are Great at a Fraction the Price appeared first on Moms Who Think.

All parents understand the value of a good vacuum, especially when the kids come home from their activities and fill the house with dirt. If you clean often, then you may think that a Dyson is the best option for your life. After all, you hear how dependable and powerful they are and you need that reliability to keep your home clean. However, even though they’re one of the top brands out there, Dyson products are also incredibly expensive and you may not be prepared to spend that money just yet.

The good news is that you don’t have to. As technology advances, so do vacuum cleaners. There are many lightweight, cordless vacuums out there that will handle your messes with ease without the hefty price point. From familiar brands like Bissell and Black and Decker to less familiar companies like Belife and Levoit, there’s a lot out there to love. Check out this list of the best Dyson alternatives.

Bissell

Bissell is often listed in the best vacuum category because each model cleans well and has a lot of bells and whistles. The brand is known for its bagless design, which keeps costs down. The vacuums are also famous for being dependable when cleaning pet hair.

The Model to Consider

Many great Bissell models will leave your home looking spotless. One of the best is their Featherweight Cordless Stick Vacuum. This tool is incredibly easy to use and very lightweight so you can get into the tough-to-reach spots with ease. The model also has several bending joints that allow you to get under the couch without having to bend down too far. Users have said that the vacuum is great on tough dirt and hair.

Belife

You may not be familiar with the Belife brand of vacuum cleaners, but you should be. Their vacuums are true hidden gems that are really powerful, especially for the price. These are great at cleaning carpets and hardwood floors. Most of the models are also very lightweight and easy to maneuver.

The Model to Consider

One of the most exciting Belife products to have in 2025 is the Belife BVC11 Cordless Vacuum. Among other things, the vacuum has great battery life, so you’ll never reach for it and find it out of power. The model also has many attachments and it can be modified to get to the tough spots. Finally, in testing, it had great suction in all spaces.

Black and Decker

Black and Decker is a brand that sells a variety of products, from power drills to coffee machines. It’s no surprise that people often bring them up when they talk about the best vacuums. Many Black and Decker vacuums are very sleek and powerful. Best of all, you can often switch the batteries with other B&D products you may own.

The Model to Consider

There are several notable models in the Black and Decker line, but for now, we’ll focus on the Power Series Extreme Cordless Vacuum. It’s no surprise that this vacuum has over 1,200 five-star reviews on Amazon.com. There’s a lot to love. It’s a beast when it comes to picking up hair, it has an easy on-off button, and it has different settings for different types of flooring. It doesn’t come with a ton of bells and whistles, but what it does, it does very well.

Eureka

Eureka is another dependable vacuum brand that will put Dyson and many other competitors to shame. These vacuums are powerful and dependable. Many models have a cleaning canister that is large enough that you can clean an entire house in one go. Eureka’s models also hold a charge for a long time so you can get everything done at once.

The Model to Consider

For this list, we choose the Eureka Lightweight Cordless Vacuum. When they say it’s lightweight, they mean it. You can easily carry this around and vacuum the stairs without struggling. The vacuum also comes with several attachments that allow you to clean anywhere with ease. It also has a dirt cup that’s easy to use, so you can continue vacuuming without long pauses. This is another great vacuum with many five-star reviews on Amazon.

Levoit

Levoit has been making great vacuum cleaners for a long time, and they only improve with age. They are more affordable than Dyson and they’re quite powerful. Each model comes with helpful attachments, and the brushes are equipped to pick up dirt and pet hair easily.

The Model to Consider

Of the many great Levoit vacuums to consider, we think the best vacuum in their current lineup is the Levoit VortexIQ 40 Cordless Stick Vacuum. This model is incredibly lightweight and it maneuvers very well, so you can clean it with little effort. You also get a handful of attachments that help you to clean around every corner. This model is also very smart. It has an intelligent auto mode that can automatically adjust how much suction is needed for the job.

Shark

Shark vacuums are often seen as a direct competitor to Dyson because they are both exceptional vacuum cleaner manufacturers. The big difference is that Shark is often the more affordable option. This brand is known for its DuoClean technology, which uses a traditional brush plus a soft roller to clean up all messes.

The Model to Consider

You could pick just about any Shark product, and it would make your house sparkling clean. Right now, we would like to highlight the Shark Wandvac Cordless Vacuum. This is another sleek model with many attachments and excellent maneuverability, so you can clean everywhere. You also get a five-year warranty. Perhaps the best feature is the self-emoting base. Once the vacuum is full, it transfers the dirt to the base, so you’re always ready to clean without hassle.

Tineco

You may not have heard of the Tineco brand before, but they easily have a place in the best vacuum category. Tineco products have many perks that most Dyson’s don’t. The dustbin is clear, so you can see when you need to empty it. Also, most Tineco’s come with an LED display that tells you when the vacuum is running out of suction, which is a great feature.

The Model to Consider

One of the best Tineco vacuums currently on the market is the Pure One S11 Cordless Vacuum. This is the vacuum for you if you love bells and whistles. It has the necessary attachments to make cleaning a breeze, like an app that syncs with your phone and a display that tells you when there’s only enough of a charge left for one more cleaning.

Samsung

If you have ever owned a Samsung product, then you know how flashy and dependable they are, so it’s only natural that they would be in the discussion for the best vacuum. Many Samsung vacuums are flashy and they will work for years without issues. If you have a Samsung TV or Samsung phone and you love it, then you’ll probably also love their cleaning products.

The Model to Consider

This electronics juggernaut continues to give us what we want with the Samsung Jet 60 Pet. In addition to cleaning dirt, the model also has a five-stage filtration system that captures allergens as you clean. This model is incredibly effective on pet hair and tough debris that most vacuums would simply pass over.

The Top 16 Healthiest Foods that Kids Will Actually Eat at Home https://www.momswhothink.com/the-top-16-healthiest-foods-that-kids-will-actually-eat-at-home/ https://www.momswhothink.com/the-top-16-healthiest-foods-that-kids-will-actually-eat-at-home/#respond Fri, 14 Feb 2025 00:30:02 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=265507&preview=true&preview_id=265507 The post The Top 16 Healthiest Foods that Kids Will Actually Eat at Home appeared first on Moms Who Think.

As a parent, finding healthy foods that your kids will actually eat can be a tough battle. Children can be particularly picky, but it’s essential that they get the proper vitamins and nutrients. Worry no longer. There are a surprising number of snacks that your kids will want to try day after day without any convincing at all.

There are some healthy items on this list that you’ve probably considered before, like yogurt and trail mix. There are also many healthy choices that may catch you by surprise, like pickles, olives, and hard-boiled eggs. It may not seem like your kids would like them, but by preparing these healthy items just right, you’ll satisfy their appetites and leave them wanting more. Consider the foods on this list during the next snack time.

Avocado

The first of the foods that kids will actually eat are avocados. Your children should have them because they’re loaded with health benefits. They contain potassium, which regulates your blood pressure. They also have fiber for a healthy digestive system. Avocados are also good for eye and skin health. You can serve avocados by themselves, or you can pair them with chicken and other tasty items.

Yogurt

Yogurt is a great snack and it’s one of the healthiest for people of all ages. Most yogurt is loaded with vitamin D and protein. You can make yogurt more flavorful by adding berries or whole grain cereal. You can also get yogurt in different flavors that you know your kids will enjoy.

Popcorn

If you don’t load your popcorn with butter and you don’t eat too much per serving, then it can actually be a pretty healthy snack. Popcorn contains tons of fiber, which is good for digestive health and weight management. Provide it for an afternoon snack and your kids will be delighted.

Watermelon

When it’s hot during the summer, bring your kids a refreshing and healthy snack. Watermelon is a great treat, and it’s a good source of fiber that helps mitigate digestive issues. The fruit also provides beta-carotene, which becomes vitamin A in the body. That vitamin is necessary for skin and eye health.

Sweet Potato

You may not have considered sweet potatoes before, but if you dress them up right, your kids will love them and they’ll reap the health benefits. Sweet potatoes are also a great source of beta carotene, which helps the body to create that essential vitamin A. Your kids may be more likely to eat sweet potatoes if you turn them into fries or top them off with honey and cinnamon.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal has been a dependable breakfast option for decades, and it still holds up today. Oatmeal is a great source of fiber that regulates digestive health. Staying regular is important, and oatmeal can do the trick. You can make oatmeal more attractive to kids by adding it to smoothies or muffins. Or, add fruit for an extra layer of flavor.

Celery With Peanut Butter

If you want to make a snack that your kids will actually eat, then go with an old classic and get them celery with peanut butter. You can also kick it up a notch by adding raisins and making “ants on a log.” The kids will think it is fun without realizing that they’re getting various health benefits, including lots of protein and plenty of vitamins, including vitamins K, C, and A.

Apples With Peanut Butter

While you have the peanut butter jar out, you can also consider preparing apples with peanut butter. Apple are very healthy because they are rich in fiber, which is necessary to lower cholesterol levels. Also, the skin of apples contains pectin, which is essential for a healthy gut. There are many different apple varieties at the store, so pick one that your kids enjoy the most.

Trail Mix

Most nuts are very healthy for your kids. However, if your children aren’t too excited about a bowl of peanuts, then you can dress them up by making trail mix. Add some raisins and chocolate candies (don’t go overboard). Nuts are packed with nutrients that provide vitamins, healthy fats, and fiber.

Cottage Cheese

Although it may be an acquired taste for some, many kids will be thrilled to eat some well-prepared cottage cheese. It’s soft and tasty and it provides calcium, vitamin B12, and selenium, which helps to improve the immune system. You can make cottage cheese more desirable by adding fresh fruit or a dollop of jam.

Fruit Smoothie

Your kids will actually eat fruit if you make it fun. One way to do that is by preparing a fruit smoothie. Many children will be excited about a colorful drink that also tastes great. Add apples, bananas, blueberries, or anything they like. Many types of fruit provide essential antioxidants, are high in fiber, and are helpful for weight management.

Hard-Boiled Eggs

It may not be the first treat you think of, but many kids get a kick out of hard-boiled eggs. They are a quick snack and each egg is loaded with protein. Plus, a quick egg will deliver essential minerals and vitamins, including riboflavin and selenium. Eggs are great on their own or you can add spices, like salt or herbs. Dill and chives are always great options.

Pickles

There are some people who aren’t fans of pickles, but many kids are, and they can make for a great snack. Avoid sweet pickles that are loaded with sugar. Instead, go to the supermarket and find pickles with live cultures. They’re very healthy and contain vitamin K and probiotic bacteria, which helps with the digestive system.

Kale Chips

This is another surprising entry that is worth a try if you’re having trouble getting your kids to eat healthy meals. Anything with kale will usually be good for you because it’s a superfood that is rich in vitamins K, C, and A. You can find kale chips at the supermarket in a variety of flavors and your kids will likely love them.

Carrot Sticks and Hummus

For another healthy snack that kids will actually eat, reach for the carrot sticks and hummus. Carrots are healthy by themselves because they contain vitamin A for eye health while also improving the immune system. Hummus is also very healthy because it’s typically made with chickpeas, which are loaded with fiber and antioxidants. You can get hummus in a variety of flavors, so find one they’ll like, and they’ll likely be asking for more.

Olives

Your children likely aren’t asking for olives that often, but if you prepare them just right, they’ll become a snack that your kids will actually eat. Olives are very good for you because they contain antioxidants and healthy fats that the body needs to thrive. You can make olives more desirable by marinating them. Add lemon, garlic, and rosemary, and your kids will come back for more.

8 Lesser-Known Steakhouses That Are Way Better Than Outback https://www.momswhothink.com/lesser-known-steakhouses-that-are-way-better-than-outback/ https://www.momswhothink.com/lesser-known-steakhouses-that-are-way-better-than-outback/#respond Thu, 13 Feb 2025 18:14:15 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=258295&preview=true&preview_id=258295 The post 8 Lesser-Known Steakhouses That Are Way Better Than Outback appeared first on Moms Who Think.

While many Americans are opting to eat less red meat these days, I still love my regular dose of beef. And if you’re a meat eater too, then you likely know that there’s nothing better than treating yourself to a nice, juicy steak. For years, I used to always go to Outback Steakhouse for my dinner fix. However, I have since realized that there are many other tasty restaurants to consider. In fact, there are eight lesser-known steakhouses that are way better than Outback.

From the upscale atmosphere of restaurants like Saltgrass Steakhouse and The Palm to the more laid-back places like Logan’s Roadhouse, there are plenty of tasty eateries out there to discover. Try at least one of these restaurants, and you may find a new favorite.

Saltgrass Steak House

Of the steakhouses that are way better than Outback, Saltgrass Steak House is easily one of the best. They have a great and vast menu that has everything from thick stakes to chicken sandwiches. The prices are also decent. The steaks are a bit more expensive, but they’re well worth it. This restaurant has a nice vibe and it’s a great place for a date night.

Best Steak to Try

Many of the steaks at Saltgrass Steak House have been nominated for awards, so you really can’t go wrong. If you’re going for the first time, start off with the Wagon Boss Center-Cut Top Sirloin. It’s cooked to your preference, and you’ll love every bite. Do yourself a favor and get it with a side of baked potato soup. During our second visit, try the bone-in ribeye.

Texas Roadhouse

You may not have heard of Texas Roadhouse yet, but if you like steak, you will soon. This is a quickly growing steakhouse chain that is expanding out of the Lone Star State. Like many other steakhouses, they have an expansive menu with steak, fish, chicken, and any other protein you can imagine. Of their specialties are the fresh-baked dinner rolls, which alone are worth the trip.

Best Steak to Try

There are many tasty steaks at Texas Roadhouse. Many people believe that the best of all is the bone-in ribeye. The steak has a great sear and perfect char, and it will leave you wanting more. Other great steaks here include the 12-ounce prime rib, the 24-ounce porterhouse, and the six-ounce Dallas filet.

Hoss’s Family Steak & Sea

Another of the unknown steakhouses that are way better than Outback is Hoss’s Family Steak & Sea. While other steakhouses have a decent menu that includes seafood, this place brings it to a whole new level. It’s the true meaning of surf and turf. There’s a vast selection of crab cakes, shrimp, whitefish, salmon, and more. The steaks are also incredible.

Best Steak to Try

Any of the seafood you try at Hoss’s Family Steak & Sea is top-notch, but if you’re looking for steak, you’re also in for a treat. One of the top menu options is the steak & crab cake, which is expertly cooked and provides the perfect bite. Like at many other steakhouses, one of the best options to try is the bone-in ribeye. It’s perfectly cooked and seasoned, and you’ll never forget it. For something a bit simpler, try the tasty sirloin steak tips, which are also amazing.

Fogo de Chão

Instead of Outback Steakhouse, consider a visit to Fogo de Chão. It’s a great steakhouse of a different flavor. The restaurant specializes in traditional Brazilian steak. Every cut of steak is packed with flavor and the atmosphere is great as well. There are also many other tasty dishes, including chicken, lamb, pork, and seafood. The desserts are top-notch as well. Try the cheesecake brûlée. It will change your life.

Best Steak to Try

You must be cautious when you visit Fogo de Chão. If you’re not careful, you could start eating and never stop. There are just that many great meats to try. If you only go once, start with the house speciality, which is the picanha. The meat is prepared with a large fat cap attached. As it’s cooked, the fat melts and coats the steak, which provides incredible caramelization, and it carries over with the taste.

The Palm

Of the steakhouses that are way better than Outback, The Palm may be one of the fanciest. This is an upscale restaurant that is great when you’re going out for a celebration or a date. The Palm has a great atmosphere, and you can choose from an expansive menu. There are steaks, pork chops, classic seafood, Italian choices, incredible desserts, and more.

Best Steak to Try

If you’re ready for a great time, head to The Palm and try a steak. One of the best options here is the prime New York strip. It’s a large 14-ounce steak that is perfectly seasoned with salt and herb-brushed virgin olive oil for a taste you’ll never forget. Another great option is the center-cut filet. You can have the steak cooked however you like, including charred or black and blue.

The Capital Grille

If you’re looking for something a bit different in a steakhouse then stop by The Capital Grille. This place is something else. With the atmosphere and incredible food, it’s like you’re a part of royalty. Go there for lunch or dinner and try something from the expansive menu that includes fresh oysters, lobster, tuna tartare, Maine lobster, and of course, tasty steak offerings.

Best Steak to Try

There are also many steak options at The Capital Grille. For a real treat, try the porcini-rubbed bone-in ribeye steak. It is cooked with an incredible 15-year aged balsamic sauce. The steak is good on its own but the mushroom crust brings it up to another level. Another incredible steak here is the sliced filet mignon. It’s cooked with wild mushrooms and cipollini onions. It’s to die for.

Fleming’s

At Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, you get to choose from a menu of famous steaks and other tasty options. Plus, you get to taste some of the finest wines in the world. And you can do it all in one place. The dinner menu has everything you’d like to see at a fine steakhouse. There’s tons of great seafood, from oysters to sweet chili calamari. Plus, there are flavorful chicken dishes and vegetarian options.

Best Steak to Try

Go to Fleming’s often and try all of their steak options. They’re all that great. However, if you only go there once, then you need to try the certified Angus beef ribeye. This beef comes from the finest cattle that are grain-fed and that fact translates over into the flavor. The restaurant says that this ribeye passes 10 science-based specifications for quality, so you know it’s good. Pair your steak with the roasted asparagus, and you’ll be in heaven.

Logan’s Roadhouse

Finally, on our list of the steakhouses that are way better than Outback, we have Logan’s Roadhouse. This steakhouse is more laid back then some of the others on this list, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t fantastic. After you have your steak, you can feast on other treats, such as the cinnamon and yeast rolls.

Best Steak to Try

In our opinion, the best steak to try at Logan’s Roadhouse is the prime rib. It’s a large 13-ounce cut that is perfectly seasoned with their signature rub. The cut is made with a lot of care. It’s slow-roasted for six hours, and it’s also hand-carved to order, so you get exactly what you want. Get a side of coconut shrimp or crab cakes for the perfect meal.
