Sometimes, there’s nothing better than pulling up to your favorite breakfast joint and enjoying a hearty meal with a delicious stack of pancakes and syrup. Being able to eat breakfast any time of the day is what makes many breakfast restaurants so popular. One of the most popular breakfast restaurants is, of course, Denny’s. While Denny’s will always have a special place in my family’s heart, these top six breakfast spots are better.

Let’s look at what makes them delicious and what they bring to the table in order to compete with the beloved Denny’s. (Read: These Foods Are Best For Kids Before and After School.)

Why Do People Love Denny’s?

Denny's Restaurant in Ramona

Before we get into the nitty gritty of breakfast joints that make your head and heart sing, let’s examine why so many people love Denny’s.

For starters, Denny’s is open 24 hours a day. This makes it convenient for families to roll up any time, especially during traveling! Here, they can enjoy delicious and savory breakfasts that are perfect for refueling.

Secondly, Denny’s is family oriented. This means those with large parties or small children feel comfortable in the setting. With the cozy and family-friendly atmosphere and comfort foods, Denny’s rarely misses the mark.

Best Menu Items at Denny’s

Denny’s is a hot spot for tasty and filling breakfast meals all day. While there are so many mouthwatering items on the menu, here are several favorites.

  • The Grand Slamwich
  • Grand Slam Slugger
  • French Toast Slam
  • Wild West Omelette
  • All-American Slam
  • Country Fried Steak and Eggs
  • Lumberjack Slam
  • Choconana Pancake Breakfast
  • Cinnamon Roll Pancake Breakfast

Are There Better Breakfast Places Out There?

As popular and beloved as Denny’s is, it’s hard to deny that there are, in fact, better breakfast joint options. This is especially true for families. Whether you are looking for a different atmosphere, menu options, or price, here are the top breakfast places that beat Denny’s. (In some people’s eyes.)

Waffle House

Waffle House is one of the most popular breakfast restaurants in the United States. Like Denny’s, it is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Additionally, Waffle House has menu options and prices similar to Denny’s. One of their customer favorites is called the All-Star Special. This includes a waffle of your choice, a sausage or bacon, eggs, toast, and a side.

Waffle House

The atmosphere at Waffle House is slightly different, as most Waffle Houses tend to be smaller than Denny’s, with a simple and practical environment. They don’t necessarily give the same cozy vibe that Denny’s does.

So, while Denny’s may have a cozier atmosphere, Waffle House is quick and reasonably priced, and you can still get meals similar to Denny’s.

Cracker Barrel

Southern breakfast restaurants are appealing to families for many reasons. They are typically relaxing and family oriented. This means that families feel comfortable bringing their children into these types of restaurants without feeling judged. (Most of the time.)

Cracker Barrel

Cracker Barrel is the epitome of the perfect southern restaurant. You have Southern hospitality with friendly wait staff, and the shop customers can peruse while waiting.

Furthermore, their affordable meals are down-home comfort food, which is perfect. This includes their breakfasts, which can be purchased all day. There’s no need to rush out the door in the morning for those grits, hashbrowns, and eggs. Any time of the day will suffice, meaning it doesn’t matter when those cravings hit!

Bob Evans

You can order more than just breakfast at Bob Evans, but why would you want to? At Bob Evans, families can eat at a decent price. Even better? The portion sizes match up or even exceed what you are paying for.

Bob Evans

Are you in the mood for a protein-filled breakfast? Then try the steak tips omelet. On the other hand, a delicious platter of double chocolate hotcakes is a family favorite. Additionally, Bob Evans has a very family-friendly atmosphere that is perfect for families who want a casual dining experience.

Panera

Technically, Panera is a bakery, not necessarily a breakfast shop. However, bakeries are among the best places to get yummy breakfast foods. While you can’t get breakfast at Panera all day, you can stop in before 10:30 a.m. on the weekdays and grab one of their delicious menu options.

Panera

Are you and your kids in the mood for some filling oats? Try Panera’s steel-cut oatmeal with strawberries and pecans. Or are you in the mood for a tasty sandwich? Then, opt for the Asiago Sausage and Egg Sandwich.

At Panera, families also enjoy the relaxed environment and cafe-focused atmosphere.

Dunkin’ Donuts

Dunkin’ Donuts is one of the top coffee competitors, right next to Starbucks. While you can’t sit in front of a savory hot plate of pancakes and bacon at Dunkin’ Donuts, it’s still a top contender.

Here, you can grab a quick breakfast and drink to help you through the day.

Dunkin’ Donuts

Dunkin’s most popular menu item is its coffee. Whether you like hot, frozen, or iced, Dunkin’ has you covered. They also have tasty breakfast wraps, donuts, and more to help fuel you for a long day.

IHop

IHop is very similar to Denny’s in that it has a very family-friendly atmosphere. If your children love pancakes, IHop is the place to take them. The pancakes are described as some of the very best around. These delicious breakfasts include the Cinn-A-Stack with cinnamon roll filling and cream cheese icing. Talk about mouthwatering!

One Last Note

If you are looking for a great breakfast place that is better than Denny’s, look no further. All these restaurants are worth the try, whether you are looking for a quick pick-me-up or a hot and delicious breakfast platter. Take your pick, and you be the judge. My Family Was a Huge Chipotle Fan, But These 6 Changes Ruined It For Us https://www.momswhothink.com/my-family-was-a-huge-chipotle-fan-but-these-changes-ruined-it-for-us/ https://www.momswhothink.com/my-family-was-a-huge-chipotle-fan-but-these-changes-ruined-it-for-us/#respond Thu, 13 Mar 2025 16:08:06 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=269348&preview=true&preview_id=269348 The post My Family Was a Huge Chipotle Fan, But These 6 Changes Ruined It For Us appeared first on Moms Who Think.

For many years, my family basically called Chipotle our second home. We went there almost every weekend, and we always ordered something different. However, over the last several years, the restaurant has been in the news more often than they’d probably like. Recent news about disease outbreaks and low employee morale have made it so that my standing as a Chipotle fan has greatly diminished.

The restaurant has also made many changes over the years, and many of them don’t sit well with me or my family. Some of the changes have to do with portion sizes and prices, while others are related to the health aspect of their food. Chipotle has also made some changes when it comes to its employees, making it a place where I would not want my kids to work. Here’s a list of six aspects of Chipotle that may change your mind about visiting the restaurant chain in the future.

Change: The Portion Sizes Seem to be Getting Smaller

Back when I was a young Chipotle fan, I went there because they offered huge portion sizes. I could ask for a burrito bowl and feel like I’d be full for a month. However, that seems to be changing over time. In an effort to save money, it appears that Chipotle’s leadership is instructing employees to provide smaller portions. At best, the portions are highly varied so that you never know what you’re going to get. Don’t believe me? Just look at the facts…

Caught Giving Smaller Portions

A few years ago, it became a TikTok trend to call out when Chipotle was giving smaller portion sizes. The company ignored the negative publicity for a while until a guy named Zachary Fadem decided to put them to the test. He went to eight different Chipotle restaurants and ordered a total of 75 burrito bowls. When he compared them all, it was clear that the contents were varied, some as much as 33%. After those results were made public, the CEO looked into the issue and confirmed the shortages. He vowed that all employees would be properly trained and that equal portions would be provided. But were they?

Change: Prices are Increasing

If you haven’t felt it yet, you will soon. The prices at Chipotle are going to increase. Much of the reason is related to the employees. Whether it’s because the company wants to attract more workers or because of minimum wage increases across the nation, they are paying employees more than ever before. However, unlike many other companies that shift funds across their organization to increase wages, Chipotle is getting that money for its employees by charging you more to eat there.

You Will See Price Increases

You may be a Chipotle fan now, but you may not be for long. Especially if you live in places like California. Wages there are increasing by as much as 20% in many places. As a result, Chipotle raised prices on menu items by 6-7%. That seems like a small number, but it can quickly add up, and you may decide to go elsewhere. Hopefully, the price hikes will end here.

Change: They Did Something to Attract Disease

This one is not a change that Chipotle likely did on purpose, but the restaurant has a problem with attracting disease, rats, and other unsavory conditions that make it hard to choose them and not a competitor. Let’s start with the disease. Throughout the years 2015-2018, the company had been linked to various food-borne illnesses, including E. coli, Norovirus, and Salmonella. Apparently, the diseases affected more than 1,000 people. At one point, the Justice Department was even involved. It’s hoped that the chain has some control over this issue, but anything is possible.

They Also Attracted Rats

Disease is one thing, but when you also add rats to the equation, you know you’re in trouble. Back in 2020, a Chipotle restaurant in New York found that there was a major rat infestation. It was so bad that the rats chewed through computer wires, making it impossible for the restaurant to take orders. Granted, that was one occasion, but if Chipotle has not yetmade the appropriate changes, then it could happen again.

Change: Violating Labor Laws

I was a big Chipotle fan until I started to pay attention to the news. I began to learn that the company wasn’t so nice to employees all of the time. One instance occurred in New York, where it was discovered that the company was causing havoc with employee shifts by making last-minute changes, making people work long hours, and violating regulations for sick pay. They were providing less sick pay than what the state required, and as a result, they were sued. However, that wasn’t all…

Other Labor Issues

Chipotle has dealt with many other different labor issues over the years. Back in 2022, workers at a Chipotle location in Lansing became the first to unionize. After that, Chipotle denied them a raise because they said they didn’t qualify due to being a union. The company has also had some questionable hiring practices over the years, including hiring and firing mass amounts of illegal workers, and there have also been cases where they’ve wrongfully terminated employees. It’s a lot to soak in, and it may turn you off from the restaurants.

Change: They’re Going to Start Using Robots

Another recent change that was announced at Chipotle is that they plan to start using AI and robots to prepare some of their food. Specifically, they’re developing two new robots, which they call Chippy and Autocado. The Autocado robot is used to cut and peel avocados. Meanwhile, Chippy is being used for procuring tortilla chips. The robots are being tested in California restaurants, and if they’re successful, they’ll be rolled out to other restaurants.

Why This Is Bad

If you’re a Chipotle fan but you also like the human touch when you order your food, then you may be turned off. It’s one thing to be efficient with AI, but there’s the potential for it to get out of hand. At some point, the workforce could be replaced by robots. Chipotle has already had issues with following employment guidelines. Replacing employees could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back for the organization.

Change: They’re Not Doing a Lot to Make the Food Healthier

Chipotle is changing a lot of things. However, one aspect of the business that it still needs to work on updating is the healthiness of its food. While there are some healthy options, many of their offerings are loaded with fat, calories, and salt. For instance, their carnitas burrito has over 900 calories, close to 50 grams of fat, and 94 grams of carbs. This is just one of the meals of which you should beware.

Other Unhealthy Options

Although the ingredients may seem light and fresh, you should look at the nutritional information before ordering at Chipotle. The carnitas bowl is also loaded with calories. Especially if you add on cheese, sour cream, and guacamole, so be careful. You should also be cautious when ordering chips, as even a small portion can contain 420 mg of sodium. To put that into comparison, medical experts recommend you only have 2,300 milligrams of sodium in an entire day, so eat carefully.

I Don’t Like Everything McDonald’s Makes, But My Kids Love These 6 Menu Items https://www.momswhothink.com/i-dont-like-everything-mcdonalds-makes-but-my-kids-love-these-menu-items/ https://www.momswhothink.com/i-dont-like-everything-mcdonalds-makes-but-my-kids-love-these-menu-items/#respond Wed, 12 Mar 2025 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=269349&preview=true&preview_id=269349 The post I Don’t Like Everything McDonald’s Makes, But My Kids Love These 6 Menu Items appeared first on Moms Who Think.

There’s no denying that McDonald’s is one of the most popular fast-food restaurants. Their target audience is undoubtedly children. From the bright colors, toys, and their famous Ronald McDonald, kids can’t help but love this restaurant. While some will argue that it’s not the healthiest option, others will say letting your kids indulge in their favorites from this beloved restaurant occasionally won’t hurt. I don’t like everything McDonald’s makes, but my kids do love these six menu items.

Why is McDonald’s So Popular with Kids?

When you were a kid, did you ever beg your parents to run through the McDonald’s drive-through? If you could only get your hands on that delicious kid’s menu and see what surprise toy they put in it this time! McDonald’s is a favorite pastime for many. When it comes to kids’, this restaurant knows what it is doing.

Their philosophy has always been, if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it. What McDonald’s has been doing for years has worked. This is why you do not see them change much about their menu or restaurants. Kids love their simple menu items that are simultaneously delicious. At the same time, parents love that this restaurant doesn’t break the bank. While they aren’t everyone’s favorite, my kids love these six McDonald’s menu items.

Chicken McNuggets

Undoubtedly, the most popular McDonald’s menu item is their chicken McNuggets. You can order a four-piece or a six piece around 170 calories (this is per 4 chicken McNuggets. This makes some parents feel better if they worry about how many calories are in the McDonald’s kids’ meals.

Chicken McNuggets

Additionally, the Chicken McNuggets can be ordered in a larger size. Such as the 10-piece or even a 50-piece if you feed a family. With the juicy chicken and crispy batter in every bite, it’s no wonder kids choose the chicken McNuggets over and over.

French Fries

McDonald’s French fries are among the world’s most popular French fries, and for good reason. They have perfected their French fries to the point that putting them down gets harder and harder with every bite.

French Fries

Buying anything from McDonald’s for your child is hard without including the French fries. This is where the kid’s menu comes in handy. For less than $6 typically, your child can enjoy their favorite main menu item and a side of fries. It’s a win-win.

Cheeseburger

Keeping it simple is always a good idea with a kid. Especially if they are picky, this is where the cheeseburgers and hamburgers come in. The burger is 100% beef patty with a little seasoning.

Cheeseburger

If your kids love all the works, they will enjoy the cheese, onions, ketchup, mustard, and pickles on the cheeseburger. Of course, if you have a picky child like me, you can always ask for the extras to be removed. A simple slice of cheese, a beef patty, and a few pickles are perfect for kids who do not like all extras.

Shake

The milkshakes at McDonald’s make a perfect treat for kids and adults alike. They blend milk with ice cream until the perfect texture has been created. In addition to the creamy texture, the shakes have the flavor perfected to a T. They aren’t too sweet but perfect enough to curb those sweet tooth cravings.

Shake

Technically, McDonald’s Shake could be considered a milkshake, but they avoid that word. Instead, a simple shake is used to define this sweet dessert. This is because, in some states, the amount of milk may not be enough to be considered a milkshake because of regulations. Therefore, McDonald’s keeps things simple enough.

McChicken

Sometimes, kids don’t want a beef patty or chicken in the shape of a nugget. Instead, they choose a juicy chicken breast that hits the spot just right. A McChicken includes the crispy breaded chicken on top of a toasted wheat bun.

McChicken

You can also choose to get all the fixings on your McChicken. These include mayonnaise and lettuce. While it is a delicious meal, it is also high in calories and contains a lot of fat, at 357 calories per sandwich, so it can make some parents do a double-take.

McDouble

Another of my kids’ favorites from McDonald’s is the popular McDouble. The burger includes two beef patties made with 100% beef. Each patty is topped with American cheese and stacked on top of one another.

McDouble

Another reason the McDouble is so delicious is the extra ingredients that add to the savory flavor of the beef patties. These include pickles, onions, mustard, and ketchup. Of course, if your child is picky, just ask those ingredients to be removed.

In Conclusion

McDonald’s may be one of the most popular fast-food restaurants worldwide, but that doesn’t mean everything they make is appetizing, especially for children. However, kids tend to gobble up these six McDonald’s menu items, I know for a fact that my kids love them.

As parents, we know the healthier option is typically cooking from home. However, we also know that sometimes, with the hustle and bustle of everyday life, eating at a restaurant is the more convenient and easiest option. You may be in a pinch between school, work, sports, and other commitments. Yet, just because you are in a pinch doesn’t mean you have to spend an arm and a leg at a restaurant! Here is a list of 12 of the cheapest food chains around. Some are sit-down restaurants, while others are fast food joints. Whatever you are in the mood for, you should be able to find something that won’t break the bank to feed you and your family.

McDonald’s

The most popular fast-food restaurant around is undoubtedly McDonald’s. Though it isn’t exactly the healthiest option, there is no denying that they do have cheap menu items, making it one of the cheapest food chains out there.

McDonald’s

You can choose from their McValue option, which allows you to buy an item and then buy the same item for only a dollar extra. There is also the choice for the $5 bags. These bags include a four-piece chicken nugget, small fries, a soft drink, and a chicken or a McDouble. These choices, coupled with their already great prices, make McDonald’s a great option for families on the go.

Bob Evans

Another one of the cheap food chains out there, Bob Evans is an excellent option if you are in the mood for a sit-down casual restaurant that isn’t exactly fast food. They offer a $7.99 deal to order breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Options include pancakes, waffles, French toast, eggs, down-home country fried steak, or chicken breasts.

Bob Evans

Even more, Bob Evans offers family-sized menu options for low prices. These include family-sized buttered corn for $3.49, mashed potatoes and gravy for $6.99, and a grilled chicken family meal for $19.99. These choices make eating out as a family more appealing when you know you won’t be breaking the bank.

In-N-Out

Like McDonald’s, In-N-Out is another great fast-food restaurant for families. Their secret menu is immensely popular with customers, and so are their cheaper menu items.

These menu items include cheeseburgers for only $4.10 a piece, hamburgers for $3.60, and French fries for only $2.10.

Denny’s

Denny’s is a breakfast joint that makes it easy to enjoy a savory and hearty breakfast any time of night. This is an excellent choice if you are on the road late at night, craving a large stack of pancakes.

Denny’s has a $4, $6, and $8 value menu that makes dining as a family affordable and enjoyable.

Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a tasty destination for those craving Tex-Mex for lunch or dinner. They have a cravings value menu that starts around $1.19 with a cheesy roll-up. From there, choices hover between $1 and 3 dollars, with choices like the three-cheese chicken flatbread melt and the double-stacked taco.

Taco Bell

Additionally, many combo options stay around $10 or under, and the tacos and burritos also stay close to $5 and under. This abundance of choices makes it easy to feed a large family for less.

Chili’s

Chili’s is another sit-down restaurant that offers value choices. These choices include the 3 For Me deal, which includes a drink, appetizer, and entree. This option begins at $10.99. Additionally, their kid’s menu options are around $4.99.

TGI Friday’s

Many perks come with eating at TGI Fridays, from their relaxed atmosphere to their weekly deals.

Fabulous Fridays allows customers to buy a specific menu item and get a different one by purchasing two drinks. TGI Friday’s also has a Kids Eat Free Kids Star Menu. This menu gives one free kids meal with the purchase of one adult main.

Pizza Hut

Pizza Hut gives customers plenty of choices if they are in the mood for pizza. You could try the $7 Deal Lover’s. This includes two or more options, from pizza to dessert, for only $7. Additionally, they have $6.99 Pizza Hut melts or the Big Dinner Box.

Domino’s

Another cheap pizza option for families is Domino’s. Like Pizza Hut, they have a choice of two or more select menu options starting at $6.99 each. Also, customers can choose a carryout deal of one topping pizza for $7.99 each. These savings help families eat out when they may be jam-packed with other commitments. Who has time to cook on these nights?

Cracker Barrel

Cracker Barrel is a down-home restaurant that makes customers feel cozy and comfortable as they gather with their loved ones. You can do it more often with their cheaper meal options.

If you are looking for a meal under $12, Cracker Barrel offers customers over 20 of them. These meals include Grandma’s Sampler and the Cheesy Bacon Homestyle Chicken. Additionally, all the kid’s menu options are under $7.

Golden Corral

If you are a fan of buffets, Golden Corral is a great place to get value options. Adults can get the dinner buffet for $16.99 throughout the week, while kids can get it for $8.99. Any child under three eats any meal any day free. The options change depending on the day of the week and what meal; if you are curious, look at the rest of the 2025 buffet prices for Golden Corral.

My family and I used to love Hunt Brother’s Pizza. In fact, that is the only place we would go to week after week. Don’t get me wrong, we still like it. However, the kids have started asking for something more, so we have begun to expand our horizons and we’re finding other restaurants that hit the spot just a bit more. If you feel the same, then you’re in luck. We have a list of pie shops that will rock your world, and one of them may become your new favorite.

This list has eight pizza places that you should consider. We’ll tell you why each one gives Hunt Brothers a run for its money by telling you what sets them apart and sharing customer reviews from Yelp. Check out the list and decide for yourself.

Pizza Hut

Although I love Hunt Brother’s Pizza and I eat there often, Pizza Hut has really kicked up their game over the last several years. The brand is widely considered to be better than Hunt Brother’s because the Hut has a larger variety. They have many of the same pizzas, but Pizza Hut also has a large selection of wings, pasta, and sides. It’s also the more well-known brand due to its extensive advertising.

What Customers Love About Pizza Hut

Customers have a lot to say about Pizza Hut, especially when compared to Hunt’s Pizza. When you read reviews about Pizza Hut, you see things on Yelp like, “I will definitely be ordering just wings next time because they were yummy!” and that the “pizza is on point each and every time.
Customer service is also 5 stars.” Clearly, the customers like what they eat.

California Pizza Kitchen

While many pizza chains may seem similar, California Pizza Kitchen it truly unique. The brand separates itself from places like Hunt’s Pizza by having a variety of unique ingredients, including goat cheese, artichokes, and more. My family loves to try something different each time. In addition, the environment and ambiance in each restaurant is above par. This restaurant screams California and people like that.

What Customers Love About California Pizza

Reviews for California Pizza Kitchen include phrases like, “the service is great, even for take away” and that it’s “very delicious.” Another customer said he went there with his wife. They were seated quickly, the waitress was nice, and the food was delicious. He said, “If l could give them more stars, l would, but 5 is the max.”

MOD Pizza

One pizza place that really sets itself apart from Hunt Brother’s Pizza is Mod Pizza. This is the place where you can go in and build your own pie from the ground up. You can choose the crust, cheese, size, toppings, and more. While Hunt Brothers has some customization options, it’s nothing like Mod. In addition, MOD also has incredible flavors, and the staff is top-notch, so you’ll be very satisfied.

What Customers Love About MOD Pizza

You’re generally always going to see positive reviews for MOD. Comments include things like how it’s “one of the best fire brick oven pizzas you can get in a restaurant for the best price.” Other comments mention the tasty ingredients, including the veggies. There are also rave reviews about some of the side dishes, including the cheesy garlic bread.

Round Table Pizza

If you’re lucky enough to have a Round Table Pizza in your area, then you likely know how tasty this place can be. The restaurant was founded on the idea of a family sitting around a table eating a communal meal, and you get the same greatvibe today. People often rate this place as a bit better than Domino’s and Hunt Brothers. The great thing about Round Table Pizza is that they often reveal new specialty pizzas, so there’s always something new to enjoy.

What Customers Love About Round Table Pizza

Round Table Pizza is primarily a California pizza place, and the locals there often choose between going here and California Pizza Kitchen. Customer reviews for Round Table are typically great. As one reviewer put it, “It was all worth it and we really enjoyed scarfing this feast down!” Another reviewer said “Amazing pizza, service, and prices.” I agree. That’s why my family and I often go here for pizza nights.

CiCi’s Pizza

CiCi’s Pizza is becoming one of the most popular pizza buffets on the planet, which is why, even if you love Hunt Brother’s Pizza, you may find yourself making a change. The buffet is really what sets this place apart. You can get a plate and eat exactly what you want in the portion sizes you desire. When people want a different type of dining environment, they often choose CiCi’s.

What Customers Love About CiCi’s Pizza

Many customers rave about their experiences at CiCi’s Pizza. Customer reviews often reference the buffet variety, the friendly staff, and the great prices. One reviewer said, “Go there, it’s verrrry worth it.” Another customer said, “The food here is ALWAYS fresh!” It’s hard to argue with that. Come to CiCi’s and see for yourself.

Sbarro

Another pizza place that provides a different type of atmosphere is Sbarro. It’s the pizza place that you see in the mall and the airport, and that’s what makes it so unique, especially when compared to Hunt Brother’s. You can get Sbarro on the go and it’s always delicious. The restaurant also has a good variety of choices for a small place, and that just adds to its charm.

What Customers Love About Sbarro

You’re going to have to look far and wide to find someone who doesn’t like Sbarro. If you need proof, just look at the customer reviews. Here’s one review that covers it all: “The staff was very friendly, the service was great, and most importantly the pizza tasted very fresh.” Another review: “It is quick and delicious.” Enough said?

Hungry Howie’s

If you love Hunt Brother’s Pizza but you’re looking for something new, consider Hungry Howie’s. The big perk about Howie’s that you won’t find at Hunt’s or many other pizza places is their variety of flavored crusts. They have various flavors, and they add a lot to the flavor profile of the pizza. This is also an affordable option that you won’t regret. Best of all, the brand is expanding across the country, so you’re likely to have a restaurant near you soon.

What Customers Love About Hungry Howie’s

Customers who love Hunt Brother’s Pizza also really enjoy Hungry Howie’s. This is one Yelp review that basically sums it all up: “The pizza, the sauce, the cheese, the crust … what is there not to love.” Another quote says “Wow!! Best pizza I’ve had in years.” It’s hard to argue with that.

Papa John’s

Many people who love Hunt Brother’s Pizza also switch between them and Papa John’s. Many folks stick with Papa John’s due to the nostalgia factor. They’ve been eating it for years, so it’s their go-to. Papa John’s is famous for its fresh ingredients, which many perceive to be better quality pizza.

What Customers Love About Papa John’s

To learn why people like Papa John’s so much, you just need to look at the customer feedback. One comment on Yelp says, “Delivered on time. Great tasting. I’m so relieved I found a place I can trust.” That’s pretty great. Another commenter said, “Papa Johns is good pizza.” That says all you need to know.

If you’re looking for a meal for dinner or breakfast and you want to stay well within your budget, then head over to Trader Joe’s. They sell many tasty and unique items for a great price. They have so much there that you can walk the aisles and mix and match to create the perfect dish. Perhaps the best thing about shopping here is that many Trader Joe’s Meals can feed a family for under $20.

Check out this list. You’re sure to find a new favorite. We have everything on here, including mandarin orange chicken, cascatelli pasta, crispy chicken parmesan, shrimp tacos, and more. We’ll tell you what to get, some cooking suggestions, and more.

Mandarin Orange Chicken

One of the first Trader Joe’s Meals that you can prepare for your family is a delicious mandarin orange chicken meal. As of this writing, the actual chicken is close to $5 per bag. After that, you can add rice and stir fry vegetables, and you’ll have a full meal for under $20. You can likely also add a beverage and still stay below your budget threshold.

Cauliflower Gnocchi

Head to Trader Joe’s and get a bag of cauliflower gnocchi when you’re looking for something new for dinner. You can get a bag for under $5. You can add the gnocchi to soups or pasta along with other inexpensive ingredients. Plus, the gnocchi you get at Trader Joe’s is 75% cauliflower, so it’s an affordable and healthy meal.

Chicken Soup Meal

You can make many different soups for less when you shop at Trader Joe’s. One of the best meals involves the company’s trademark steamed chicken soup dumplings. You can get them for around $5. You can add the dumplings to a soup or justpop them in the microwave and enjoy them as they are. Either way, your family won’t regret it.

Chicken Tikka Masala

Trader Joe’s has many boxed meals that are above and beyond what you’ll find at retailers like Walmart. Case in point, head to the freezer section and check out the amazing chicken tikka masala. You’ll often find it for around $5. Cook up this chicken and you’ll find that it’s incredibly tender and creamy, especially with the basmati rice. If you want to add a little more to the meal, get some pitas to dip in.

Eggs for Breakfast

These days, it’s hard to find eggs for a good price. However, Trader Joe’s still has a pretty good price for a dozen cage-free white eggs. You can get them for a fraction of the cost of the other places. Then, you can get some sausage or pancakes and stay well below your $20 total. You can make breakfast for the whole family for that.

Cascatelli Pasta Meal

Head to Trader Joe’s, and you can still get a whole 16-ounce bag of organic cavatelli pasta for under $5. Serve this on a plate, and you’ll be amazed at the unique texture that you’ll get with each fulfilling bite. The pasta also holds the sauce remarkably well, so you’ll love dinner. Pair this dish with some garlic bread and your family will be ranting and raving.

Shawarma Chicken Thigh Meal

You can make family dinner even easier by heading to Trader Joe’s and laying down close to $7 per pound for fully marinated shawarma chicken thighs. They are always juicy and tender. You won’t even believe it. Many people choose to serve this chicken delicacy with yellow rice, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, and pitas. If you’re smart, you can get everything for under $20.

Crispy Chicken Parmesan

You can make a very tasty chicken parmesan dish for cheap at Trader Joe’s. All you need is the package of chicken, bruschetta sauce, mozzarella, and Genova pesto. Depending on costs, this one may verge slightly over $20, but it’s worth it. Defrost the chicken first, and then top it off with the mozzarella and bruschetta sauce. Chances are you’ll be coming back for more.

Shrimp Tacos

To make this delicious and affordable dish, start with Trader Joe’s famous uncooked Argentinian red shrimp. You can get it for cheap. Also, purchase tortillas, coleslaw, and pineapple sauce. This is an inexpensive dish that can feed your whole family. The bag of shrimp is good for multiple tacos.

Pork Fried Rice

For this tasty pork fried rice dish, you’ll need eggs, pork belly, vegetable fried rice, and soyaki. If you already have eggs at home then you can surely get this meal for under $20. Cook it all together and you’ll have a full meal for the family. If you don’t love pork belly, then you can substitute any protein and make it a great meal.

Chicken Tortellini Soup

Another great soup option is the chicken tortellini soup. It’s affordable and filling for the whole family. To make it, head to Trader Joe’s and pick up chicken tenders, chicken broth, mirepoix, and cheese-filled tortellini. Most of the recipe includes adding the ingredients in a bowl and season it. You can also make this into a vegetarian dish by leaving out the chicken and using chickpeas as the protein.

Hash Brown Eggs Benedict

There are also many affordable meals that you can get for breakfast at Trader Joe’s. You can make a classy hash brown eggs Benedict by purchasing hash browns, smoked salmon, and avocado. If you don’t have eggs at home, you can get those as well, and you should stay below your $20 budget. If you don’t like the eggs, you can substitute potato latkes or waffles instead.

Breakfast Sausage and Potato Egg Hash

There are other ways to get your hash brown fix at Trader Joe’s for less than $20. This one is quite simple. Go to the store and fill your cart with sharp cheddar, breakfast sausage, eggs, and roasted potatoes with peppers and onions. Once again, you can turn this into a vegetarian dish by swapping out the sausage and instead using plant-based sausage.

Korean-Inspired Short Rib Rice Bowls

For something a big more exotic, consider this tasty Korean-inspired dish that will feed your entire family for cheap. You’ll need to be a bit careful to stay within your budget, but you can do it. To do so, load your cart with Korean-style beef short ribs, rice, baby bok chop, and Kimchi. If you like the idea but want to try something different, then substitute shrimp tempura or teriyaki chicken instead.

Baked Meatball Sandwiches

For something a bit different, consider the baked meatball sandwiches that you can buy and prepare for under $20. For the best results, make them with bread & butter pickle chips, Italian-style cooked meatballs, and Trader Joe’s magnifisauce, and put it all between two brioche buns. Make sure to drizzle the bubs in olive oil for a great taste. If it’s within your taste, then top the meal off with garlic mustard aioli.

7 Family-Friendly Restaurants We’d Love to See Make a Comeback https://www.momswhothink.com/family-friendly-restaurants-wed-love-to-see-make-a-comeback/ https://www.momswhothink.com/family-friendly-restaurants-wed-love-to-see-make-a-comeback/#respond Wed, 05 Mar 2025 20:45:00 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=268255&preview=true&preview_id=268255 The post 7 Family-Friendly Restaurants We’d Love to See Make a Comeback appeared first on Moms Who Think.

Taking a family out to a sit-down restaurant can feel anxiety-inducing. This is especially true if you have young children. While you don’t necessarily want to take small kids to a fancy restaurant meant only for adults, some perks come with taking your kids out to eat. They can learn plenty of valuable skills through these moments. These practical skills include proper table etiquette, communication with restaurant staff, and appropriate behavior in public spaces. Of course, the best way to teach your children these skills and more is by taking them to a family-friendly restaurant. These are the restaurants that other kids and families would most likely be at. This means you’re less likely to get glared at here if your child is still learning. But sometimes these places can be hard to find. Here are seven family-friendly restaurants we’d love to see make a comeback.

The restaurants on this list may evoke nostalgia and dreams of being able to take your children to a beloved place from when you were a child. You never know what the future may hold; maybe one day, we will see one of these family-friendly restaurants make an epic comeback.

’90s Pizza Hut Buffet

Technically, Pizza Hut is still in business; however, many people long for the day when it ruled the pizza world. In the ’90s, Pizza Hut was a popular restaurant with plenty of kid-eat-free days.

’90s Pizza Hut Buffet

Additionally, Pizza Hut had both a sit-down section and a buffet. The atmosphere was comforting to families. Whether they were planning a birthday party or taking their kids out for a weekday treat. Pizza Hut in the ’90s was where it was at.

Chi-Chi’s

Chi-Chi’s was a Mexican restaurant that was very popular during the 1980s and 1990s. They quickly became known for their fried ice cream and salsa.

Chi-Chi’s

Chi-Chi’s was an introduction to the whole concept of Tex-Mex cuisine. The immense popularity soon fizzled out when bigger competitors began to grow. Now, there is talk that a new Chi-Chi’s may be up and coming. While it may not be exactly what the old restaurant was, seeing its similarities to the ’80s favorite Chi-Chi’s will be interesting.

Bennigan’s

Bennigan’s was another ’90s restaurant that quickly became popular during this era. Customer favorites included Monte Cristo sandwiches, which were described as a ‘food-coma-inducing deliciousness” by a Reddit commenter.

Bennigan’s

Bennigan’s was first founded in 1972 and had the catchphrase ‘bringing families together.” It was a laid-back restaurant where families could enjoy delicious appetizers and deep-fried everything (have you ever had deep-fried broccoli?) They quickly became popular for their two for one happy hour drinks.

Don Pablo’s

Don Pablo’s was another Tex-Mex restaurant that focused on making meals from scratch, providing fresh ingredients, and creating a relaxing atmosphere in which families felt comfortable.

Don Pablos

Today, the nostalgia for the feeling of Don Pablos is strong. Whether it was going to the restaurant and watching fresh tortillas being made in front of you or hanging out as a family enjoying the relaxing atmosphere, there was always a reason to go to Don Pablos.

Sizzler

Sizzler Rockhampton

In the 1970s, Sizzler was a hopping restaurant that changed the way of typical restaurants with their ingenious salad bar. Families could come and order a full meal at a reasonable price and chill out in a family-friendly space.

Sizzler

bangkok sizzler interior

Other than the salad bar, Sizzler was known for its down-home menu items, such as steak, ribs, and burgers. Family-friendly food was another reason kids and adults felt comfortable here.

Ponderosa

Ponderosa was a family-friendly buffet restaurant that offered amazing deals. These included family days, where families ate for a very low price. They also had kid-eat-free days. These deals made it easier for families with smaller kids to dine out when they didn’t feel like cooking.

Ponderosa

The main reason Ponderosa was so family-friendly was because of the price range. In the ’90s, buffet-style restaurants were extremely popular. This concept allowed customers to pick and choose from a wide range of choices for a reasonable price. Though buffets aren’t nearly as popular anymore, you can still find a Ponderosa lingering around the United States here or there.

Old Country Buffet

The Old Country Buffet was another popular family buffet in the 1990s. It was a top choice for those who wanted a relaxing night out but didn’t want to choose just one specific type of meal. Buffets are handy like that.

Old Country Buffet

Many Redditors in this post share how they used to go there for ‘fancy’ dinners with their family. It was their definition of a ‘nice restaurant.” If a restaurant can evoke nostalgia such as that, it must have done something right.

In Conclusion

Happy family toasting while eating breakfast in a restaurant during their hotel stay.

Finding a family-friendly restaurant isn’t always easy. So many checks need to be marked off to be considered a top restaurant for families. Things like a calm atmosphere, reasonably priced, and kid-friendly meals. However, the family-friendly restaurants on this list are ones we would love to see make a comeback.

10 Foods I Used to Serve My Kids After School That I’ve Now Banished From My House https://www.momswhothink.com/foods-i-used-to-serve-my-kids-after-school-that-ive-now-banished-from-my-house/ https://www.momswhothink.com/foods-i-used-to-serve-my-kids-after-school-that-ive-now-banished-from-my-house/#respond Mon, 03 Mar 2025 20:32:00 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=267425&preview=true&preview_id=267425 The post 10 Foods I Used to Serve My Kids After School That I’ve Now Banished From My House appeared first on Moms Who Think.

There’s no getting around it; whenever kids come home for school they are ravished. After all, they put in a long day of work. It’s easy to reach for the first processed snack in the cabinets. However, when it comes to our kids’ health, there are many healthier snacks that we could choose from. These unhealthy foods are now banished from my house. Let’s look at what makes them unhealthy and what to choose for your kid’s after-school snack instead.

Fruit Snacks

For a snack with the word fruit in it, you would think health would be a given. Yet, there are both benefits and negatives to grabbing a pack of fruit snacks. The calories are low, and some fruit snacks contain vitamins A and C. However, fruit snacks also contain a ton of sugar and some trans-fat. Additionally, they tend to be loaded with colors and dyes. Which is one reason these unhealthy foods are now banished from my house.

Instead, a better option to give your kids is fresh fruit like apples, bananas, or berries.

Energy Drinks

Energy drinks may make children and adults feel a quick pick me up, but they aren’t great for our health. Many come with health risks that aren’t worth it, especially for children.

Energy drinks can decrease insulin sensitivity and put a person at risk for anxiety, hallucinations, headaches, depression, and more. Additionally, energy drinks may also put one at risk of having a stroke.

If your child is coming home tired from school, make it a priority to ensure they get plenty of rest at night.

Flavored Yogurt

Yogurt can be very healthy, especially yogurts like Kefr and Greek. However, when we get into the territory of flavored yogurt, that’s when the health benefits can start to decrease.

Flavored yogurt tends to be full of sugar. Some tubes of flavored yogurt can contain up to 15 grams or more of added sugar. So, when in doubt, opt for unflavored plain or Greek yogurt.

Goldfish Snacks

Any of the baked processed pantry snacks are far from healthy for children. They are highly processed and full of added preservatives. Goldfish are one of the foods that are now banished.

Goldfish snacks also have too much sodium and minimal nutrients. This and the additives make them better left on the store shelves.

Instead, try giving your child fresh vegetables for that added crunch.

Pop Tarts

Pop-Tarts are another processed breakfast or snack food that is better to say no to. They are highly processed with refined flour and soybean oil and contain too much sugar. This sugar includes refined white sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and corn syrup.

Fructose is known to increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes. If your child loves to have a sweet treat after school, try baking homemade banana or zucchini bread. You can control the ingredients in the bread, and you will still get something sweet.

Boxed Macaroni and Cheese

Kids love macaroni and cheese. What’s not to love? It’s easy, convenient, pasta, and cheesy! However, boxed macaroni and cheese have been linked to phthalates, a chemical that makes plastics more flexible.

Furthermore, mac and cheese is also very highly processed. It contains a ton of sodium and a high amount of saturated fat.

Hot Dogs

Hot dogs are also another loved snack and meal for kids. However, consuming them actually comes with health risks. They contain high amounts of sodium that can increase the risk of high blood pressure and heart disease.

Additionally, hot dogs contain nitrates and nitrites. These additives come with the risk of cancer.

Lunchables

Lunchables seemingly make the perfect after-school snack. They contain just the right number of crackers, meat, and cheese and sometimes you can find breakfast lunchables. Some even come with a tasty little treat. Yet, don’t go reaching for one of these just yet.

Since lunchables are highly processed meat, they contain ingredients that can increase the risk of cancer. Furthermore, they are high in sodium and may have heavy metals and phthalates.

Sugary Breakfast Cereals

Sugary breakfast cereals may be addicting for some kids, but the high levels of sugar can be concerning. Too much sugar increases blood pressure, affects insulin, and puts kids at risk for developing heart disease and type 2 diabetes down the line.

So, if your kid is a huge fan of sugar, try opting for a healthier brand.

Potato Chips

Potato chips are addicting and sometimes oh-so-tasty. But they also come with risks, especially when consumed in high amounts. If anyone has eaten potato chips, you know it’s hard to eat a few!

Potato chips have high sodium levels and little to no nutritional value. Additionally, they are fried, which means they contain high levels of unhealthy fats, like saturated and trans fats.

One Last Note

a boy's choice of a healthy or unhealthy snack

Finding the perfect snack isn’t always easy. Kids can be picky and sometimes, the healthiest foods are more expensive. While junk food isn’t always terrible in moderation, it’s important not to let your kids eat unhealthy levels of processed food daily. The risk these foods come with are why they are now banished. Instead, make sure to add in some healthier choices. Before you know it, your kids may be reaching for the cottage cheese or the apple instead of the goldfish or potato chips.

McDonald’s Sells the Saltiest Fries For This One Main Reason https://www.momswhothink.com/mcdonalds-sells-the-saltiest-fries-for-this-one-main-reason/ https://www.momswhothink.com/mcdonalds-sells-the-saltiest-fries-for-this-one-main-reason/#respond Wed, 26 Feb 2025 20:54:00 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=266170&preview=true&preview_id=266170 The post McDonald’s Sells the Saltiest Fries For This One Main Reason appeared first on Moms Who Think.

If you were to ask anyone what the most popular fast-food restaurant was, their answer would most likely be McDonald’s. According to Statista, there are currently 41,822 McDonald’s worldwide. You can find one in almost every town in the United States and over 100 countries. What is it about this restaurant that gives it so much addicting power? Beyond the kid favorite chicken nuggets and their juicy McChicken sandwiches, one menu item stands out above the rest. The oh-so-delicious and salty fries. So, what sets this restaurant’s fries apart from the rest? We are going to take a look at why McDonald’s sells the saltiest fries, and it’s for this one main reason.

History of McDonald’s as a Franchise

Picture the most popular fast-food restaurant today; what comes to mind? Hamburgers, fries, self-service, right? What about barbeque stands and hot dogs? Those seem a little out of place for this franchise. However, every story has a beginning, and the beginning of the story of McDonald’s starts with a hot dog stand and two brothers named Maurice and Richard McDonald.

Maurice and Richard McDonald

These brothers entered the food industry by starting a hotdog stand in 1937. Then, a few years later, in 1940, they bought an old drive-through barbeque restaurant in San Bernardino, California, and opened up McDonald’s. However, the originally name was McDonald’s Famous Barbeque, and the menu was focused on, you guessed it, barbeque. To step up the competition, the brothers used high-powered heat lamps to keep prepared food warm and a system called the Speedee Service System. They also used a self-service counter. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?

In Walks Ray Kroc

Kroc sold kitchen appliances to the McDonald brothers and was immediately impressed by their designs and innovative spirit. He bought the rights to franchise the McDonald’s restaurant and make it what it is today. By the 1960s, the brothers were ultimately bought out, and Kroc owned the restaurant.

McDonald’s Global Influence

McDonald’s is undeniably the most popular fast-food restaurant in the world. With restaurants in over 100 countries worldwide, McDonald’s would have a massive global influence.

They take their responsibility seriously. Valuing sustainability by getting involved in social issues and the environment as well. Priorities include food safety, sourcing responsibility, and animal welfare. Additionally, environmental issues that McDonald’s feels strongly about include climate action, protecting natural resources, and waste.

Ronald McDonald’s House Charities

McDonald’s also has a nonprofit organization called the Ronald McDonald House Charities, which gives families a place to stay or help while their children are in the hospital.

Why are Their Fries Iconic?

Have you ever heard someone say, well, I like this restaurant’s chicken nuggets (or fill in the blank), but McDonald’s fries are the best? There’s a reason their fries are so iconic.

These reasons include the carefully selected potatoes and the double frying process. This process uses lower heat to cook the fries thoroughly, then a higher heat to make them extra crispy. Which is one reason It is hard to eat only a few of these addicting fries.

Why are McDonald’s Fries so Salty?

Now, let’s get down to the nitty gritty: why exactly are McDonald’s fries so addictingly salty? Do they toss a ton of salt on there and call it a day? Not quite. McDonald’s sells the saltiest fries for this one main reason.

The Number One Reason McDonald’s Fries are So Salty

The main reason that McDonald’s fries are so salty has to do with what is called the ‘bliss point.’ It’s not just salt that gives us the addicting flavor. It’s a combination of salt, sugar, and fat. The fries are cooked in canola oil laced with a natural flavoring similar to beef tallow. Then, the fries are salted and coated with dextrose (sugar.) All three combined add a perfect mouthwatering flavor.

Why are the Fries so Addicting?

What happens when these flavors are combined explains a little about why these fries are addicting. The dopamine in your brain actually sends a message of pleasure when eating these fries. That is why it is so hard for you to eat only a few fries!

Brand Consistency

McDonald’s has always been a restaurant that doesn’t change just to change. Through the years, they have stayed consistently the same. Which is one reason they remain so popular and continue to grow. McDonald’s firmly believes that staying consistent helps build trust, awareness, and reliability. If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it, right?

Fry Preparations Through the Years

French Fries

Though they have stayed largely consistent through the years, things don’t always remain the same. Like anything that has been around for a while, there have been some changes with McDonald’s fries.

At the Beginning

Creamy Homemade beef tallow glass , close-up

Anyone before 1990 probably claims that McDonald’s fries were better than they are now. Why exactly? The reason is because from the beginning until 1990, McDonald’s used beef tallow to cook their fries. Originally, this is where the flavor of the McDonald’s fries came from.

Yet, in 1990, they switched to canola oil due to health considerations.

Fry Preparation Now

Cooking delicious french fries in hot oil, closeup

Today, McDonald’s cooks their fries in a mixture of vegetable oils. These include soybean and canola oils. However, when the change happened, customers weren’t happy with the flavor difference. So, McDonald’s improvised and now adds beef flavoring which tastes very similar to beef tallow.

In Conclusion

Now that you know why McDonald’s sells the saltiest fries, it makes sense why customers rave about them so much. The flavoring adds a complex taste that is hard to find at any other restaurant. When you reach into the bag and grab a handful of hot, salty McDonald’s French fries, it’s almost like you’re in heaven. At least for some. While they aren’t everyone’s bag of chips, (or fries, should we say), not many people can deny that the salty McDonald’s fries are oh-so addicting.

My Kids Love Hungry Howie’s Pizza and These Are the Only 21 States Lucky Enough to Have Them https://www.momswhothink.com/these-are-the-only-states-lucky-enough-to-have-hungry-howies-pizza/ https://www.momswhothink.com/these-are-the-only-states-lucky-enough-to-have-hungry-howies-pizza/#respond Wed, 26 Feb 2025 19:13:00 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=267227&preview=true&preview_id=267227 The post My Kids Love Hungry Howie’s Pizza and These Are the Only 21 States Lucky Enough to Have Them appeared first on Moms Who Think.

No matter where you live, you likely find that you have your choice of many different pizza places. However, if you ever get sick of Pizza Hut and Dominoes, consider Hungry Howie’s Pizza. If you haven’t heard of this fine pizza chain before, then chances are you currently live in a state where the pizza place doesn’t exist. That’s a shame because Hungry Howie’s is a fairly unique pizzeria where you can get flavored crust!

Don’t worry. If you don’t have a Hungry Howie’s near you now, there’s a good chance you will have one in the future. The chain is quickly expanding across the United States. There are restaurants from Florida to California. For now, check out the states that are lucky enough to be home to a Howie’s.

What is Hungry Howie’s Pizza?

Many people who don’t yet have a Hungry Howie’s Pizza in their state are eager to get one. Why? Howie’s is different from most other pizza places you’ve been to because they have flavored crust! You can choose from many different flavors, including butter, garlic herb, cajun, Italian herb, sesame, asiago cheese, and more. The flavored crusts mix perfectly with the sausage, cheese, pepperoni, or anything else you add to your cheese. Unfortunately, only 21 states currently have the restaurant in their state. Let’s take a deeper look at where they are now.

Where Is Hungry Howie’s Focused Now?

You’ll see some trends on this list as to where Hungry Howie’s currently does business. They have many restaurants on the Eastern and Western coasts. So if you live in those areas, you may see a restaurant soon. However, there’s also a presence in the Midwest. The point is that the chain is looking at aggressive expansion, so it’s time to get excited about Howie’s!

Alabama

There are currently 13 Hungry Howie’s Pizza locations in the state of Alabama. They all serve the tasty flavored pizza folks love and they’re in many major cities. You’ll find them in Birmingham, Auburn, Montgomery, and other places.

Colorado

The franchise is slowly expanding in the state of Colorado. Currently, there are only three restaurants there. Two of them are in Aurora and the third is in Thornton. There are currently many pizza places in the Colorado market and Howie’s is trying to get a piece of the action.

Indiana

Indiana is another state that is quickly gaining steam when it comes to Hungry Howie’s flavored crust pizza. There are currently five restaurants in the state. Many of the locations in the state sell pizza, wings, salads, and more.

North Carolina

North Carolina is one of the states with the most Howie’s locations. Currently, there are 19 restaurants in the state. Some of the most noteworthy locations are in Fayetteville, Winston-Salem, and Belmont.

Pennsylvania

There’s a lot of work to do in Pennsylvania. Currently, there’s only one restaurant in the state, and it’s in Altoona. The restaurant offers takeout and delivery, and they work with DoorDash and other services. The people are clamoring for more pizza options, and this could be it.

Utah

Currently, there are six Hungry Howie’s Pizza locations in the fine state of Utah. Several of the locations are in the town of St. George. All of the locations are big hits in the state.

Arkansas

The fine people of Arkansas currently only have two locations to visit when they want their flavored-crust fix. You can find the restaurants in Little Rock and Conway. There’s rumors that there may be more locations in the future.

Delaware

If you want to get your Hungry Howie’s fix in Delaware, you currently only have one to visit. It is on 1252 Norman Eskridge Hwy in Seaford. There are currently many locations on the East Coast, but there’s still a need for expansion in Delaware. Will Hungry Howie’s oblige?

Louisiana

Another state where Hungry Howie’s has a minimal presence is in Louisiana, where they have one location. It can be found in the big city of Baton Rouge. The location still sells its signature flavors plus drinks and appetizers.

Nevada

Hungry Howie’s Pizza has a growing expansion in Nevada. All three of the restaurants are in Las Vegas, so there’s something tasty for the people on the strip. There’s a lot more empty space in Nevada, so the company would be wise tocontinue to expand.

South Carolina

There is a decent Hungry Howie’s expansion going on in South Carolina. Currently, they have four locations. Two of which are in Myrtle Beach. There are also locations in Carolina Forest and Greenville.

Arizona

The Hungry Howie’s presence in Arizona is strong. Currently, there are 23 restaurants in the great state and more are likely to come. You can find them in some of the largest cities, including Phoenix, Tempe, and Scottsdale.

Florida

Though Hungry Howie’s is based out of Michigan, they do many of their business dealings out of Florida. For that reason, there are currently 190 locations in the state and there are more to come. There’s barely any town in the state that isn’t near one of the restaurants.

Michigan

The Hungry Howie’s Pizza chain of restaurants began in Michigan in 1973, so it’s no surprise that there are more locations there than in any other state. There are currently 199 restaurants in the state. You can’t drive very far without running across one of them.

Ohio

Ohio also has a number of Hungry Howie’s locations. 14 of them to be exact. There are several in the town of Canton, Alliance, and many other fine areas. There are likely to be more locations in the future.

Tennessee

At this point, Tennessee only has three restaurants, but hey, having even just one Hungry Howie’s location is better than having none. The restaurants are in Murfreesboro, Morristown, and Jefferson City.

California

There are plenty of Hungry Howie locations out West, including in California. Currently, the state has nine locations in major cities, many of which are in Southern California. This is a great restaurant chain that gives In-N-Out a run for its money.

Georgia

At this point, Georgia is home to two Hungry Howie’s locations. However, with its close proximity to Florida, that is likely to change in the future. The restaurants are in Douglas and Newman, so check them out if you’re in the area.

Mississippi

Currently, poor Mississippi only has one Hungry Howie’s location in the state. It’s in Ridgeland and it’s open until 10 pm. The chain is known to open restaurants in the south, so there will likely be more to come in the future.

Oklahoma

Oklahoma is home to two Hungry Howie’s Pizza locations. They can both be found in Tulsa. Order from either of them with Uber Eats, DoorDash, and similar apps. They both serve pizza, drinks, and appetizers.

Texas

Finally, we have Texas, which currently has 10 restaurants. They can be found in large cities, including San Antonio and Houston. However, they’re fairly spread around so you’re likely to find one near you.

9 Things You Shouldn’t Order the Next Time You Take Your Family to Chipotle https://www.momswhothink.com/things-you-shouldnt-order-at-chipotle/ https://www.momswhothink.com/things-you-shouldnt-order-at-chipotle/#respond Wed, 26 Feb 2025 00:31:09 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=266829&preview=true&preview_id=266829 The post 9 Things You Shouldn’t Order the Next Time You Take Your Family to Chipotle appeared first on Moms Who Think.

If you’re like me, then you’re also a Chipotle super-fan. I find myself going there several times per month with my family. It’s hard to resist. The food seems to be so fresh and tasty and it always hits the spot. However, while the food is good, just like at any restaurant, there are some menu items you should generally try to avoid. Either they’re not very healthy or they may not be as advertised. To show you what we mean, we have composed this list of items that you and your family maybe shouldn’t order at Chipotle.

Don’t worry. This list isn’t all doom and gloom. In addition to mentioning some items you should generally avoid, we’ll also mention three tasty and healthy items that you should definitely try. Check out this list and see if your favorite made an appearance.

Avoid the Chips

It may seem crazy to order a taco or burrito and not get a side of chips, but they are one of the main things that youshouldn’t order at Chipotle. The main reason is the sodium content. Even if you order a small batch of fries, you’re still getting 420 milligrams of sodium. Sure, the seasoning is what makes the chips so tasty, but they are bad news. Too much sodium can increase your chances of dangerous ailments like stroke, heart disease, and high blood pressure.

Avoid the White Rice

You don’t have to order a complex meal in order to have an unhealthy bite. In the case of Chipotle, all you need is to order too much white rice. Regular white rice has a ton of sodium and it lacks nutrients and fiber, which makes it high on the glycemic index, meaning it can cause blood sugar spikes. If you really want rice with your burrito, get it, but don’t go overboard. Really, you’re better off getting brown rice because it does contain nutrients, so it’s less unhealthy overall.

Avoid the Carnitas Bowl

One of the most unhealthy dishes at Chipotle is the carnitas bowl. Many of the bowls that the restaurant sells are rather unhealthy, mostly due to the size and pile of ingredients included in each one. However, the carnitas bowl is one of the worst, as it clocks in at over 1,000 calories. Keep in mind that doctors recommend eating less than 3,000 calories in an entire day, so you can see how this one would be bad for you. A lot of the blame lies on the cheese, guacamole, and sour cream that’s included in the dish.

Avoid the Carnitas Burrito

While you’re at it, you should also avoid the carnitas burrito if you value your health. Again, it comes down to the ingredients. Once you pack in the sour cream, cheese, and white rice, you’re asking for punishment. In the end, the burrito could have close to 1,400 calories, which is a lot for lunch. Even worse, the burrito is loaded with sodium, so you’re not doing your body any favors.

Avoid the “Fresh” Salsa

It may not seem to be true, but one thing that you shouldn’t order at Chipotle is the fresh salsa. Salsa on its own isn’t very unhealthy. However, according to gossip by former employees, the salsa is not made fresh as advertised. According to a post on Reddit, the salsa is actually one of the few things at Chipotle that is not made fresh every day. So, it may taste good, but it may also be days old.

Avoid the Large Chips and Guacamole

It can be tempting to order your main meal, be it a burrito or steak salad, and to also get a side of chips and guacamole, but you should be careful. If you order the large chips and the large guacamole, and you eat it all yourself, you’ll be eating 1,270 calories, which is a big chunck of your daily limit. Plus, the pairing has 82 grams of fat and 126 grams of carbs. If you’re going to order this item, at least share it with friends.

Avoid the Large Side of Queso Blanco

Chipotle has a nice selection of single sides that are great for dipping your chips. But if you’re trying to lose weight or stay healthy, then the side you shouldn’t order at Chipotle is the large size of the queso blanco. That dip by itself has 480 calories. That’s before you add the chips to the equation. This is another side that we hope you share with friends so you’re not getting all of those calories yourself.

Avoid Ordering Too Much On Your Salad

If you’re trying to be healthy, then be careful with salads. They may seem innocent at first, but when you keep adding oningredients, you may be asking for help. For instance, if you decide to add on smoked brisket, you’ll be adding an extra 360 calories to your dish. If you add white rice and brown rice, you’ll get an additional 400 calories. Further, top off your salad with black beans, pinto beans, and guacamole, and suddenly, your salad isn’t so healthy anymore.

Be Careful With Tacos

Just like with the salads, you should be careful when ordering tacos because it’s easy to go overboard. In many cases, the shells are the most unhealthy component. A single crispy shell contains 200 calories, and a soft shell has 250 calories. Once you start adding the meat and condiments, the calories will start to add up. If you decide to have several tacos, you may be asking for trouble.

Try the Chicken Fajita Salad

When you’re ready to start eating healthy at Chipotle, begin with the chicken fajita salad. Often, any menu item with the word “salad” in the title is a good starting point. This particular salad has only 44 grams of carbs and 25 grams of fat. On the flip side, it has 8 grams of fiber and 37 grams of protein, both of which are good for you. This tasty salad is full of lettuce, grilled chicken, veggies, and corn salsa. They are all of the ingredients that can keep you in good physical shape.

Try the Steak and Rice Burrito Bowl

With some modifications, you can get a healthy meal out of the steak and rice burrito bowl. Steak is a great source of protein because it is essential for strengthening your bones, muscles, and skin. Plus, protein helps to regulate your immune system. This burrito bowl has 31 grams of protein, which is a good amount. Rice and beans are also good sources of fiber, but too much rice can be unhealthy. So, to rectify this issue, when you order, ask for “light rice.”

Try the Steak Salad

If you’re a meat eater and you want something healthy that’s also a bit more substantial, then go for the steak salad. This meal includes steak, lettuce, veggies, and guacamole. This dish is tasty, and it provides a good amount of fiber and protein. Overall, the meal has 445 calories, 23 grams of carbs, and 28 grams of fat. It’s not the healthiest meal in the world, but if you watch what you eat the rest of the day, you’ll be okay.

The 9 Most Unhealthy Drinks at Starbucks – and 4 Low Calorie Replacements https://www.momswhothink.com/the-most-unhealthy-drinks-at-starbucks-and-low-calorie-replacements/ https://www.momswhothink.com/the-most-unhealthy-drinks-at-starbucks-and-low-calorie-replacements/#respond Fri, 21 Feb 2025 18:46:49 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=208968&preview=true&preview_id=208968 The post The 9 Most Unhealthy Drinks at Starbucks – and 4 Low Calorie Replacements appeared first on Moms Who Think.

If you’re like me, then you seek out Starbucks restaurants so you can get your boost of caffeine for the day. They have a large menu of tasty beverages, and new items show up all of the time. The drinks always do the trick, but did you know that some of the menu options are rather unhealthy? It’s true. Many of the drinks have as many calories as a full meal while others are loaded with sugar. To help you stick to your weight loss goals, we have compiled this list of the most unhealthy drinks at Starbucks.

Some of the unhealthy options include the hot chocolate, Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino, and the Pistachio Latte, so if any of those are your favorite, be warned. However, we’re not leaving you high and dry. At the bottom of this list, you’ll also see a selection of healthy drinks at Starbucks, so you can get your caffeine fix without the guilt.

Unhealthy: Hot Chocolate

We may still be facing some cold temperatures, but be cautious if you try to warm up by getting the hot chocolate. As one of the most unhealthy drinks at Starbucks, the hot chocolate poses a number of concerns. The grande size has 370 calories, 16 grams of fat, 160 mg of sodium, and 43 grams of carbs. That’s if you don’t add in extra marshmallows or sprinkles. Then you’re looking at a very unhealthy beverage.

Unhealthy: Iced Cinnamon Dolce Latte

If you love cinnamon, then the idea of an iced cinnamon dolce latte probably sounds pretty good. No doubt it’s delicious, but it’s also bad for your health. This single drink contains 300 calories, 13 grams of fat, 115 mg of sodium, and 38 grams of carbs. The addition of the whipped cream makes matters worse, so maybe ask to keep that ingredient out of the equation.

Unhealthy: Caramel Apple Spice

If you’re like me, then the idea of the caramel apple spice drink sounds perfect. This is another beverage that is undoubtedly very tasty, but just because it has the word “apple” in it doesn’t mean it’s healthy. Instead, this drink packs in a whopping 380 calories, 35 mg sodium, 8 grams of fat, and 77 grams carbs. The reason for the poor report is due to the addition of whipped cream, heavy cream, caramel sauce, and a slew of other unhealthy ingredients.

Unhealthy: Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino

Many people get excited when the “pumpkin spice” part of the year comes around, but be careful about what you order. Case in point: the Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino. This one is loaded with 420 calories. To keep that in perspective, health experts recommend you consume less than 3,000 calories in an entire day, so this drink is a big part of it. The drink also contains 15 grams of fat, 280 mg of sodium, and 66 grams of carbs, so be careful.

Unhealthy: Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino

Easily, one of the most unhealthy drinks at Starbucks is the Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino. This caffeinated beverage looks more like a giant dessert, and like many desserts, it’s not exactly healthy. The beverage contains 480 calories, 270 mg sodium, 62 g carbs, and 24 g fat. That’s all without customizing the drink. Adding more whipped cream or sprinkles will spike the calorie count even higher.

Unhealthy: Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino

This is another drink that looks mouthwateringly delicious on the menu, which is why so many people are tempted to order it. However, don’t be too quick to ask for it if you’re on a diet. This chocolatey delight has 470 calories, 22 grams of fat, 280 mg of sodium, and 65 grams of carbs. It’s because this is more dessert than beverage. The inclusion of whipped cream, caramel-sugar topping, and dark caramel sauce are just some of the culprits.

Unhealthy: White Hot Chocolate

No, the white version of hot chocolate is not healthier than the standard version. The secret that makes this drink so tasty is the addition of cocoa butter, but that’s part of the problem. When all is said and done, this drink contains 440 calories, 260 mg of sodium, 19 grams of fat, and 55 grams of carbs. It’s a very unhealthy drink. If you must choose between the two, go for the regular hot chocolate, which is slightly healthier.

Unhealthy: Acai Lemonade Starbucks Refresher

You may go into Starbucks looking to try a refreshing beverage on a hot day. One of the colorful Starbucks Refreshers may look like they’ll hit the spot, but beware. The refresher drinks contain a lot of sugar. Almost enough to fulfill your daily allowance. The drink also contains 140 calories, 15 mg sodium, and 35 grams of carbs. This drink can be refreshing but enjoy it sparingly.

Unhealthy: Pistachio Latte

The Pistachio Latte is certainly one of the most unhealthy drinks at Starbucks. This is another one that may have you scratching your head. After all, aren’t nuts supposed to be healthy? Not when they’re loaded with salted brown butter and four pumps of pistachio sauce. The end result is a tasty drink that contains 320 calories, 9 grams of fat, 310 mg of sodium, and 48 grams of carbs of carbs. Pistachio fans, be warned.

Healthy: Cafe Americano

If you want a drink with barely any calories, go for the Cafe Americano. It is a cup of espresso that is diluted in hot water. The drink provides a nice shot of caffeine with only 15 calories. The only drink at Starbucks that’s healthier than this one is the normal, brewed black coffee. That has five calories per cup. Of course, if you’re going to only get black coffee, you might as well just brew it at home and save some money.

Healthy: Chai Tea Latte

The Chai Tea Latte at Starbucks is out of this world, and luckily, it’s also one of the healthier drinks at the restaurant. This latte includes frothed and steamed milk and the perfect amount of spice. All in all, it has 200 calories. It’s not perfect, but if you watch what you eat for the rest of the day, you’ll be in good shape.

Healthy: Skinny Vanilla Latte

If you need your coffee fix, then a good latte may be the only beverage that fits the bill. However, if you want to stay healthy, go for the skinny vanilla latte. This tasty drink has frothed and steamed milk, a ribbon of vanilla syrup, and several tasty shots of espresso. It’s like a dessert and a pick-me-up all in one. The best part is that the skinny version only has 100 calories if you get the tall size.

Healthy: Nitro Cold Brew

The final healthy choice that we’d like to highlight is the Nitro Cold Brew, which is a tasty, creamy caffeinated beverage that is injected with nitrogen for a great boost. This drink is not for everyone, but if you’re more about function than fashion, then it’s a great choice. Best of all, the drink only has five calories and no sugar. So you’ll be up and going without putting on extra weight.

17 Places Set to Get a New Buc-ee’s and People Are Excited https://www.momswhothink.com/places-set-to-get-a-new-buc-ees-and-people-are-excited/ https://www.momswhothink.com/places-set-to-get-a-new-buc-ees-and-people-are-excited/#respond Tue, 18 Feb 2025 16:37:29 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=264048&preview=true&preview_id=264048 The post 17 Places Set to Get a New Buc-ee’s and People Are Excited appeared first on Moms Who Think.

If you have ever taken a road trip, you’ve likely seen your fair share of gas stations and restaurants along the way. Many times, you see the same old businesses. However, if you’re ever driving and you see a Buc-ee’s, you may become immediately excited. For those not in the know, Buc-ee’s is a huge gas station with hundreds of fueling stations and a huge store where you can buy everything from gourmet sandwiches to their own brand of candy.

If that sounds amazing, then it should be no surprise that people are excited about the new Buc-ee’s locations that will be opening across the country in the coming years. Check out this list and see if you’re one of the lucky ones who will soon be within driving distance of a new Buc-ee’s.

What is Buc-ees?

You may be wondering what Buc-ee’s is and why people are so excited about seeing more of them. Simply put, it’s a gas station. However, it’s not just a regular gas station with a few pumps and some overpriced candy inside. Instead, this is a huge business with many pumps and a massive store. When you go into the store, you’ll find that you can purchase anything from candy and soft drinks to shirts, stuffed animals, and entire meals. People are always amazed the first time they walk into one of these fantastic places, and that’s why folks want more.

Buc-ee is a Huge Star!

One of the best parts about Buc-ee’s is their mascot: Buc-ee the Beaver! There’s even a statue of him outside of all their locations. It’s amazing to see people who are visiting for the first time stop to take a family picture with the Buc-ee statue. When you go inside the gas station, you’ll find Buc-ee’s face everywhere. It’s on the candy bags, the coffee cups, and the beef jerky – but that’s not it. You can also get shirts and outfits with the character’s face on it. When you walk around states like Texas, you’ll be amazed at how many people have a Buc-ee’s shirt!

The Buc-ee’s Difference

In addition to finding a lot of cool stuff at this gas station chain, you’ll also notice many other differences between this store and other gas stations. The locations are incredibly clean and everything is in its place. Even the restrooms were voted as the cleanest in the area. Not only are the restrooms huge, but there are even showers and other helpful amenities there. You’ll be amazed at how big a Buc-ee’s location really is. It’s like going to a supermarket where you can buy just about anything and there’s really no experience quite like it.

Tennessee

There will soon be a new Buc-ee’s gracing the state of Tennessee. The newest one is at Tennessee 196 and Interstate 40, near Gallaway. This is going to be a huge location at over 74,000 square feet. Plus, it will have 120 fueling lanes so cars, trucks, vans, and RVs can get the fuel they need before continuing on their journey.

Kentucky

Recently, it was announced that Buc-ee’s would also be planting another location in Kentucky. Oak Grove, Kentucky, to be exact. The plans were approved by the city council and the project is moving forward. This will be the third location in the Bluegrass State.

Fort Pierce, FL

The residents of Florida will have a fourth Buc-ee’s location to get excited about in the near future. Florida’s newest location will be near Indrio Road and I-95. It will have plenty of fueling stations and a whopping 73,000 square food store. You won’t be able to miss this one either. The city has approved it to be accompanied by a sign that’s 100 feet tall!

Arizona

The year 2025 is going to be a good one for the citizens of Goodyear, Arizona. The new Buc-ee’s location will be opening this year or next. Like the others, this will be a massive 75,400-square-foot store where you can get everything from gum to school attire. It will be located along Interstate 10.

Mississippi

The new Buc-ee’s in Mississippi is expected to finally open its doors in 2025. The huge 74,000-square-foot building will be in Pass Christians on I-10 at Exit 24. This is a massive undertaking and it’s said the project has cost $50 million. Needless to say, there’s a lot to look forward to out there.

Louisiana

In the near future, you’ll find a new location coming to Ruston, Louisiana along I-20. When it’s finished, that is. The project is supposed to break ground this year and it could be completed in 2025.

Arkansas

Arkansas will be getting its first-ever Buc-ee’s location in the near future. The city council has approved plans for construction and it should be completed soon. It will be located off of Interstate 30 in Benton, Arkansas.

Florida Location #2

If you live in Ocala, Florida, then you’re in luck. Yet another big-time gas station will be planting roots in your community. Not only will you be getting all of the goodies associated with Buc-ee’s, but it will be on another level. At 80,000 square feet, this is set to be the largest location they’ve ever made.

Georgia

There’s a third location coming to Georgia this year or next. It will be located in Brunswick at 7156 Highway 99. Like many others, this new Buc-ee’s will have 120 fueling stations, so you’ll never be without gas. The interior will be a massive 74,000 square feet.

North Carolina

The first location will be making its way to North Carolina. This 74,000-square-foot store will be located in Mebane, NC and will have over 100 fueling stations and many charging stations for electric cars. The new store should be opening in 2025.

Ohio

Buc-ee’s will also be debuting in the state of Ohio in 2025. The new location will be in Huber Heights, Ohio. This will be another huge 74,000-square-foot facility and will be located off of Interstate 70. The gas station may open in 2025 or 2026.

Virginia

The popular gas station chain is also expanding into Virginia for the first time. They will be breaking ground in Rockingham County on Friedens Church Road. The construction may be completed this year or next. When all is said and done, the location will be 74,000 square feet, have 120 fueling stations, and employ close to 200 people.

Kansas City

It seems like the city of Kansas City can’t help but win. In addition to having a Super Bowl-winning football team, the city will also be getting its first Buc-ee’s. Construction is beginning this year, and it may open by the end of 2025.

Colorado

Recently, the company opened another location in Johnstown, Colorado. This one is a bit smaller than some of the other stations in the country, but it still offers the same great fuel and goodies.

2 Texas Locations

People in Texas really love going to this gas station, so they’ll be happy about having two more in the Lone Star State. The new locations will be in Amarillo and Boerne. Both locations will be huge and they’ll be opening in 2025 or 2026.

Whataburger’s Great, But These 8 Burgers Are Even Better https://www.momswhothink.com/whataburgers-great-but-these-8-burgers-are-even-better/ https://www.momswhothink.com/whataburgers-great-but-these-8-burgers-are-even-better/#respond Sat, 15 Feb 2025 14:00:00 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=266687&preview=true&preview_id=266687 The post Whataburger’s Great, But These 8 Burgers Are Even Better appeared first on Moms Who Think.

The hamburger is one of the most popular foods in the world. In the United States alone around 50 billion burgers are served each year, with the selection of eateries ranging from fine dining establishments to fast food restaurants. The choices can be overwhelming–there are more than 84,000 places to choose from–but everyone has their favorite spot.

For us, it has always been Whataburger. For years, we’ve enjoyed the perfectly cooked burgers and the tasty sides. However, with all the varieties on the market, we thought we’d give other burger joints a try. After tasting our way through various burgers, we can now say that although Whataburger is still delicious, these eight burgers are even better.

If you’re a Whataburger fan, we suggest you try these eight different restaurants and see why their burger offerings may just take the top spots.

In-N-Out

Yes, Whataburger is delicious. However, many people think that In-N-Out Burger is better. Both restaurants have their similarities. Both have smaller menus and tasty burgers without a lot of unnecessary frills. Many people are like me and think that In-N-Out is better because the burgers and fries are so fresh, so they provide a certain taste that can’t be compared. You can sit there and watch them cut your fries and know they’re the real deal. It’s an incredible restaurant. Unfortunately, locations are limited, so try it if you can.

The Burger to Try

If you’re going to see how much better IN-N-Out burger is for yourself, then you should try the famous Double-Double burger. This is a basic burger with double patties, lettuce, and tomatoes. But what really brings it to the next level is the special sauce that’s been the same since 1948. Once you go to In-N-Out, you may never look at Whataburger again.

Shake Shack

If you live in a state with a Whataburger restaurant, then you also likely live near a Shake Shack. Many times, people will pull into the Shack Shack drive-thru over their competitor. Why? Well, in addition to having delicious shakes in a wide variety of flavors, they also have amazing burgers and savory options. You can go to many locations and see people lined up around the block. You don’t typically see that at Whataburger.

The Burger to Try

If you’re going to Shake Shack for the first time, check out the ShackBurger. It’s loaded with delicious Angus beef, lettuce, tomato, and their famous ShackSauce. Plus, it’s all placed on a perfectly toasted potato bun. It’s a simple burger, like you’d find at Whataburger, but it’s so much better. You’ll certainly go back for more.

BurgerFi

While Whataburger is delicious, the chain doesn’t always offer the variety that many customers desire. That’s where BurgerFi comes in. There, not every meat is the same. When you order, you can choose between standard patties or vegetarian, meatless, and gluten-free options. They are proud that their meat comes from the farm and not the lab. That’s not to say that Whataburger meat is low quality, but BurgerFi just knocks it out of the park.

The Burger to Try

When looking for the best taste comparison between them and Whataburger, order the classic BurgerFi Cheeseburger. It’s loaded with double lettuce, tomato, double patties, and double cheese. There’s also antibiotic-free Angus beef. It’s an amazing burger made even better with a side of fresh-cut fries. This is a great restaurant for a variety of flavor pallets.

Fuddrucker’s

While Whataburger serves some pretty amazing burgers, what you see is what you get. You’re limited in how you can customize your meal. At Fuddrucker’s, the meals are made to order, so you can get them exactly how you like. That’s one thing they have over Whataburger. In addition to that, they have some of the freshest buns in the industry. The restaurant says that they’re made fresh every day.

The Burger to Try

If you visit this restaurant, go for the Original Fudds meal option. Essentially, it’s choosing your burger your way. You get to choose the type of meat and how it’s cooked. You also get to choose the toppings. They have a legendary toppings bar that offers endless options to make your burger just right. It’s a variety you won’t get at Whataburger.

Smashburger

If you visually compare a Smashburger sandwich with a burger at Whataburger, you may find it hard to see a difference, at least visually. However, Smashburger is famous for literally smashing their burgers so they’re thin and lean. The process also packs in the flavor. While they’re similar, for my money, I’ll take the Smashburger any day.

The Burger to Try

For me, there’s a tie between two great sandwiches at Smashburger. One of them is the Truffle Mushroom Swiss Burger. It’s packed with fresh mushrooms and amazing beef flavor. If you don’t like mushrooms, you could also try the Classic Smash. Get it with onion, pickles, lettuce, and tomato, and it will be a party in your mouth.

Wendy’s

Yes, Wendy’s is a major chain and not quite the niche pick as some of the other restaurants on this list, but they continue to deliver amazing food. The executives at Wendy’s know that newer burger brands like Whataburger are making a splash, so they continue to try to innovate to keep up. Wendy’s has a vast menu with tasty choices that make it a must-have.

The Burger to Try

Go on any best-of-burger list, and you’ll find the Baconator on top of most of them. This is considered to be one of the best burgers of all time. It’s loaded with bacon and those amazing square patties. The patties are also covered in cheese, so it’s a flavor explosion in every bite. It’s just a bit better than many of the options you’ll get at Whataburger.

Fatburger

If Whataburger is delicious, then Fatburger is on another level. They take their name seriously by adding heaping toppings to burgers that also have tasty, large patties that are never frozen. They also have some of the best milkshakes in the world. Fatburger restaurants are not as common, but they’re worth a try if you want something new.

The Burger to Try

Like Whataburger, Fatburger has a smaller menu that won’t overwhelm you upon your first visit. When you go, try the original Fatburger. The burger has only one beef patty, but it’s huge and full of flavor. Get it with all the fixings, and you’ll get lettuce, onions, relish, mayo, mustard, and more. The beef patty has the right amount of caramelization that brings the flavor to another level.

Habit Burger Grill

Finally, while we know that Whataburger is delicious, Habit Burger Grill gives that chain a run for its money. This is another restaurant that you won’t find everywhere, so try it when you come across them. People generally love the burgers because they’re freshly chargrilled and perfectly cooked over an open flame.

The Burger to Try

Most people find that the best burger at Habit Burger is the Double Char. It’s a good-sized burger, but you can squeeze it down with your hands and get that flavor punch that we all love. The burger patties are perfect and even the lettuce is somehow better than at other chain restaurants. Get a side of fries and look forward to a fantastic meal.

These Fries Make McDonald’s Look Overrated https://www.momswhothink.com/these-fries-make-mcdonalds-look-overrated/ https://www.momswhothink.com/these-fries-make-mcdonalds-look-overrated/#respond Fri, 14 Feb 2025 14:00:00 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=266676&preview=true&preview_id=266676 The post These Fries Make McDonald’s Look Overrated appeared first on Moms Who Think.

If you’re craving perfectly salty fries, McDonald’s is often the go-to choice. Whether enjoyed on their own or dipped in a McFlurry, they’ve remained a favorite for many. Even though I don’t eat McDonald’s often, I can’t deny that their fries are delicious. However, once you explore the world of fast food and quick-service restaurants, you’ll find plenty of options that outshine McDonald’s. If you’re searching for the best fast food fries, here are eight restaurants that serve up even better ones.

Burger King

It’s no secret that Burger King is one of McDonald’s biggest competitors. You can tell by their cheeky marketing tactics, like Burger King coming up with the line, “Why eat with a clown when you can dine with the king?” Even though McDonald’s fries are a classic choice, many say that Burger King fries are superior to McDonald’s.

Crispier than McDonald’s fries

Zinger Burger king Burger Cheese sauce with Finger Fries

I’m not the biggest Burger King fan, but I have to say their fries beat McDonald’s on many levels. Burger King fries are not only thicker than McDonald’s fries, but they’re also crispier, which is an important quality for French fries. While there’s not necessarily anything unique about Burger King fries, they’re a solid choice if you’re looking for delicious and salty fast-food french fries.

Checker’s

A delicious looking cheeseburger and french fries on on a tray with black and white checkered paper tray liner on a table in a fast food restaurant. American food. Hamburger with fries

If you choose Checker’s for lunch over another fast food restaurant, it’s probably because of their french fries. Their seasoned fries are so popular that you can even purchase them frozen in certain grocery stores. Whether you choose a burger or one of their spicy chicken sandwiches, you won’t be disappointed when you order a side of fries with your meal at Checker’s.

Just the right amount of spice

According to Checker’s, their fries are “secretly seasoned.” Although they’re not spicy, they have a more diverse flavor than fries from places like McDonald’s. It’s no wonder that Checker’s fries have been voted some of the best fast food fries in national rankings. The director of Research and Development at Checker’s says the secret is that the fries are coated in a seasoned fry batter to give them their unique flavor.

Popeye’s

Fried chicken

If you’re a fan of spicy fries, Popeye’s may be the best choice for you. Popeye’s offers their signature Cajun french fries, which have the perfect amount of seasoning and are bursting with flavor. You can’t go wrong with some fried chicken, fries, and a biscuit.

Best spicy fries

Popeye’s not only has some of the best fried chicken of any fast food restaurant, but they also have tasty fries. If you’re tired of plain, salted fries, try the Cajun fries at Popeye’s for something a little different. The fries at Popeye’s are tossed in a Cajun seasoning that gives them the right amount of spice. They also give you a decent amount instead of skimping on the fries like some other restaurants do.

Five Guys

Five Guys fries are a favorite among fast food-goers, but they’re different from the other fries on this list. If you’re a fan of crispy fries, Five Guys fries are unlikely to be your favorite. The flavor is good but they lack the crispiness some other fast food fries have. To get the most enjoyment out of them, it’s best to eat them right away.

Enough fries for everyone

Five Guys may be more expensive than some of the other fast food or quick service restaurants on this list, but they do give you a good value for the fries. You’ll usually find the bottom of your bag is filled with fries along with the fry container. Five Guys fries are freshly cut and you can order either regular or Cajun style.

Wendy’s

Miss u so much Wendy's

When it comes to the best fast food french fries, Wendy’s has to be on the list. Some will even argue that Wendy’s has the best overall french fries out of any fast food joint. Even when it comes to their hamburgers, Wendy’s uses beef that is fresh, never frozen, so you know their fries are fresh too.

Better alternative to McDonald’s

Top view of two wendy´s burgers and fries combos from above

Wendy’s provides one of the best fast food french fry experiences by selling perfectly salty and crispy fries. There’s nothing seemingly unique or special about them, but when you get them fresh, they are the perfect classic cut fry. Wendy’s changed their fry recipe back in 2021 and added the Hot & Crispy Guarantee. With this new recipe, their fries are always fresh and deliciously crispy.

Chick-fil-A

When it comes to waffle fries, no one can make them like Chick-fil-A. The shape of the fries is one of the main things that makes Chick-fil-A fries stand out from the rest. They also taste great with Chick-fil-A’s wide range of dipping sauces.

Iconic waffle fries

Chick-fil-A is one of the only fast-food restaurants I could never get enough of. Their iconic waffle fries are some of the best out of all the fast food restaurants. They’re salty, crispy, and taste delicious dipped in Chick-fil-A sauce (or Polynesian, if you prefer.) They pair perfectly with an order of Chick-fil-A nuggets and even one of their tasty milkshakes.

Culver’s

Homemade Wisconsin Butter Burger with Cheese and Fries

Unlike McDonald’s fries, Culver’s offers crinkle-cut fries that are always fresh. Although it’s difficult to choose between their fries and a side of their cheese curds, the fries are never disappointing.

Always fresh and crispy

Homemade Wisconsin Butter Burger with Cheese and Fries

If you’re a fan of crinkle-cut fries, Culver’s has some of the best french fries out of any fast food chain. The food at Culver’s is always fresh, so you know the fries are going to come out hot and crispy as well. If you really want the full experience, I recommend ordering a side of their Wisconsin cheese sauce to dip the fries in. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.

Shake Shack

Shake shack burgers with cheese fries

Shake Shack, like Culver’s, sells crispy crinkle-cut fries. These fries are perfectly crisp on the outside while still being soft on the inside. They pair perfectly with a Shake Shack burger and milkshake.

Crispy crinkle-cut fries

Famous hamburger of Eastern america, USA

Out of all the fast food fries on the list, Shake Shack’s fries deserve to be at the top. Their fries are always crispy but never burnt. They have just enough salt to be delicious without being too salty. The texture of these fries is really what makes them one of the best. Some people have strong opinions about fry shape, but if you’re a fan of the crinkle-cut variety, don’t miss out on Shake Shack’s fries.

The Top 16 Healthiest Foods that Kids Will Actually Eat at Home https://www.momswhothink.com/the-top-16-healthiest-foods-that-kids-will-actually-eat-at-home/ https://www.momswhothink.com/the-top-16-healthiest-foods-that-kids-will-actually-eat-at-home/#respond Fri, 14 Feb 2025 00:30:02 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=265507&preview=true&preview_id=265507 The post The Top 16 Healthiest Foods that Kids Will Actually Eat at Home appeared first on Moms Who Think.

As a parent, finding healthy foods that your kids will actually eat can be a tough battle. Children can be particularly picky, but it’s essential that they get the proper vitamins and nutrients. Worry no longer. There are a surprising number of snacks that your kids will want to try day after day without any convincing at all.

There are some healthy items on this list that you’ve probably considered before, like yogurt and trail mix. There are also many healthy choices that may catch you by surprise, like pickles, olives, and hard-boiled eggs. It may not seem like your kids would like them, but by preparing these healthy items just right, you’ll satisfy their appetites and leave them wanting more. Consider the foods on this list during the next snack time.

Avocado

The first of the foods that kids will actually eat are avocados. Your children should have them because they’re loaded with health benefits. They contain potassium, which regulates your blood pressure. They also have fiber for a healthy digestive system. Avocados are also good for eye and skin health. You can serve avocados by themselves, or you can pair them with chicken and other tasty items.

Yogurt

Yogurt is a great snack and it’s one of the healthiest for people of all ages. Most yogurt is loaded with vitamin D and protein. You can make yogurt more flavorful by adding berries or whole grain cereal. You can also get yogurt in different flavors that you know your kids will enjoy.

Popcorn

If you don’t load your popcorn with butter and you don’t eat too much per serving, then it can actually be a pretty healthy snack. Popcorn contains tons of fiber, which is good for digestive health and weight management. Provide it for an afternoon snack and your kids will be delighted.

Watermelon

When it’s hot during the summer, bring your kids a refreshing and healthy snack. Watermelon is a great treat, and it’s a good source of fiber that helps mitigate digestive issues. The fruit also provides beta-carotene, which becomes vitamin A in the body. That vitamin is necessary for skin and eye health.

Sweet Potato

You may not have considered sweet potatoes before, but if you dress them up right, your kids will love them and they’ll reap the health benefits. Sweet potatoes are also a great source of beta carotene, which helps the body to create that essential vitamin A. Your kids may be more likely to eat sweet potatoes if you turn them into fries or top them off with honey and cinnamon.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal has been a dependable breakfast option for decades, and it still holds up today. Oatmeal is a great source of fiber that regulates digestive health. Staying regular is important, and oatmeal can do the trick. You can make oatmeal more attractive to kids by adding it to smoothies or muffins. Or, add fruit for an extra layer of flavor.

Celery With Peanut Butter

If you want to make a snack that your kids will actually eat, then go with an old classic and get them celery with peanut butter. You can also kick it up a notch by adding raisins and making “ants on a log.” The kids will think it is fun without realizing that they’re getting various health benefits, including lots of protein and plenty of vitamins, including vitamins K, C, and A.

Apples With Peanut Butter

While you have the peanut butter jar out, you can also consider preparing apples with peanut butter. Apple are very healthy because they are rich in fiber, which is necessary to lower cholesterol levels. Also, the skin of apples contains pectin, which is essential for a healthy gut. There are many different apple varieties at the store, so pick one that your kids enjoy the most.

Trail Mix

Most nuts are very healthy for your kids. However, if your children aren’t too excited about a bowl of peanuts, then you can dress them up by making trail mix. Add some raisins and chocolate candies (don’t go overboard). Nuts are packed with nutrients that provide vitamins, healthy fats, and fiber.

Cottage Cheese

Although it may be an acquired taste for some, many kids will be thrilled to eat some well-prepared cottage cheese. It’s soft and tasty and it provides calcium, vitamin B12, and selenium, which helps to improve the immune system. You can make cottage cheese more desirable by adding fresh fruit or a dollop of jam.

Fruit Smoothie

Your kids will actually eat fruit if you make it fun. One way to do that is by preparing a fruit smoothie. Many children will be excited about a colorful drink that also tastes great. Add apples, bananas, blueberries, or anything they like. Many types of fruit provide essential antioxidants, are high in fiber, and are helpful for weight management.

Hard-Boiled Eggs

It may not be the first treat you think of, but many kids get a kick out of hard-boiled eggs. They are a quick snack and each egg is loaded with protein. Plus, a quick egg will deliver essential minerals and vitamins, including riboflavin and selenium. Eggs are great on their own or you can add spices, like salt or herbs. Dill and chives are always great options.

Pickles

There are some people who aren’t fans of pickles, but many kids are, and they can make for a great snack. Avoid sweet pickles that are loaded with sugar. Instead, go to the supermarket and find pickles with live cultures. They’re very healthy and contain vitamin K and probiotic bacteria, which helps with the digestive system.

Kale Chips

This is another surprising entry that is worth a try if you’re having trouble getting your kids to eat healthy meals. Anything with kale will usually be good for you because it’s a superfood that is rich in vitamins K, C, and A. You can find kale chips at the supermarket in a variety of flavors and your kids will likely love them.

Carrot Sticks and Hummus

For another healthy snack that kids will actually eat, reach for the carrot sticks and hummus. Carrots are healthy by themselves because they contain vitamin A for eye health while also improving the immune system. Hummus is also very healthy because it’s typically made with chickpeas, which are loaded with fiber and antioxidants. You can get hummus in a variety of flavors, so find one they’ll like, and they’ll likely be asking for more.

Olives

Your children likely aren’t asking for olives that often, but if you prepare them just right, they’ll become a snack that your kids will actually eat. Olives are very good for you because they contain antioxidants and healthy fats that the body needs to thrive. You can make olives more desirable by marinating them. Add lemon, garlic, and rosemary, and your kids will come back for more.

8 Lesser-Known Steakhouses That Are Way Better Than Outback https://www.momswhothink.com/lesser-known-steakhouses-that-are-way-better-than-outback/ https://www.momswhothink.com/lesser-known-steakhouses-that-are-way-better-than-outback/#respond Thu, 13 Feb 2025 18:14:15 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=258295&preview=true&preview_id=258295 The post 8 Lesser-Known Steakhouses That Are Way Better Than Outback appeared first on Moms Who Think.

While many Americans are opting to eat less red meat these days, I still love my regular dose of beef. And if you’re a meat eater too, then you likely know that there’s nothing better than treating yourself to a nice, juicy steak. For years, I used to always go to Outback Steakhouse for my dinner fix. However, I have since realized that there are many other tasty restaurants to consider. In fact, there are eight lesser-known steakhouses that are way better than Outback.

From the upscale atmosphere of restaurants like Saltgrass Steakhouse and The Palm to the more laid-back places like Logan’s Roadhouse, there are plenty of tasty eateries out there to discover. Try at least one of these restaurants, and you may find a new favorite.

Saltgrass Steak House

Of the steakhouses that are way better than Outback, Saltgrass Steak House is easily one of the best. They have a great and vast menu that has everything from thick stakes to chicken sandwiches. The prices are also decent. The steaks are a bit more expensive, but they’re well worth it. This restaurant has a nice vibe and it’s a great place for a date night.

Best Steak to Try

Many of the steaks at Saltgrass Steak House have been nominated for awards, so you really can’t go wrong. If you’re going for the first time, start off with the Wagon Boss Center-Cut Top Sirloin. It’s cooked to your preference, and you’ll love every bite. Do yourself a favor and get it with a side of baked potato soup. During our second visit, try the bone-in ribeye.

Texas Roadhouse

You may not have heard of Texas Roadhouse yet, but if you like steak, you will soon. This is a quickly growing steakhouse chain that is expanding out of the Lone Star State. Like many other steakhouses, they have an expansive menu with steak, fish, chicken, and any other protein you can imagine. Of their specialties are the fresh-baked dinner rolls, which alone are worth the trip.

Best Steak to Try

There are many tasty steaks at Texas Roadhouse. Many people believe that the best of all is the bone-in ribeye. The steak has a great sear and perfect char, and it will leave you wanting more. Other great steaks here include the 12-ounce prime rib, the 24-ounce porterhouse, and the six-ounce Dallas filet.

Hoss’s Family Steak & Sea

Another of the unknown steakhouses that are way better than Outback is Hoss’s Family Steak & Sea. While other steakhouses have a decent menu that includes seafood, this place brings it to a whole new level. It’s the true meaning of surf and turf. There’s a vast selection of crab cakes, shrimp, whitefish, salmon, and more. The steaks are also incredible.

Best Steak to Try

Any of the seafood you try at Hoss’s Family Steak & Sea is top-notch, but if you’re looking for steak, you’re also in for a treat. One of the top menu options is the steak & crab cake, which is expertly cooked and provides the perfect bite. Like at many other steakhouses, one of the best options to try is the bone-in ribeye. It’s perfectly cooked and seasoned, and you’ll never forget it. For something a bit simpler, try the tasty sirloin steak tips, which are also amazing.

Fogo de Chão

Instead of Outback Steakhouse, consider a visit to Fogo de Chão. It’s a great steakhouse of a different flavor. The restaurant specializes in traditional Brazilian steak. Every cut of steak is packed with flavor and the atmosphere is great as well. There are also many other tasty dishes, including chicken, lamb, pork, and seafood. The desserts are top-notch as well. Try the cheesecake brûlée. It will change your life.

Best Steak to Try

You must be cautious when you visit Fogo de Chão. If you’re not careful, you could start eating and never stop. There are just that many great meats to try. If you only go once, start with the house speciality, which is the picanha. The meat is prepared with a large fat cap attached. As it’s cooked, the fat melts and coats the steak, which provides incredible caramelization, and it carries over with the taste.

The Palm

Of the steakhouses that are way better than Outback, The Palm may be one of the fanciest. This is an upscale restaurant that is great when you’re going out for a celebration or a date. The Palm has a great atmosphere, and you can choose from an expansive menu. There are steaks, pork chops, classic seafood, Italian choices, incredible desserts, and more.

Best Steak to Try

If you’re ready for a great time, head to The Palm and try a steak. One of the best options here is the prime New York strip. It’s a large 14-ounce steak that is perfectly seasoned with salt and herb-brushed virgin olive oil for a taste you’ll never forget. Another great option is the center-cut filet. You can have the steak cooked however you like, including charred or black and blue.

The Capital Grille

If you’re looking for something a bit different in a steakhouse then stop by The Capital Grille. This place is something else. With the atmosphere and incredible food, it’s like you’re a part of royalty. Go there for lunch or dinner and try something from the expansive menu that includes fresh oysters, lobster, tuna tartare, Maine lobster, and of course, tasty steak offerings.

Best Steak to Try

There are also many steak options at The Capital Grille. For a real treat, try the porcini-rubbed bone-in ribeye steak. It is cooked with an incredible 15-year aged balsamic sauce. The steak is good on its own but the mushroom crust brings it up to another level. Another incredible steak here is the sliced filet mignon. It’s cooked with wild mushrooms and cipollini onions. It’s to die for.

Fleming’s

At Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, you get to choose from a menu of famous steaks and other tasty options. Plus, you get to taste some of the finest wines in the world. And you can do it all in one place. The dinner menu has everything you’d like to see at a fine steakhouse. There’s tons of great seafood, from oysters to sweet chili calamari. Plus, there are flavorful chicken dishes and vegetarian options.

Best Steak to Try

Go to Fleming’s often and try all of their steak options. They’re all that great. However, if you only go there once, then you need to try the certified Angus beef ribeye. This beef comes from the finest cattle that are grain-fed and that fact translates over into the flavor. The restaurant says that this ribeye passes 10 science-based specifications for quality, so you know it’s good. Pair your steak with the roasted asparagus, and you’ll be in heaven.

Logan’s Roadhouse

Finally, on our list of the steakhouses that are way better than Outback, we have Logan’s Roadhouse. This steakhouse is more laid back then some of the others on this list, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t fantastic. After you have your steak, you can feast on other treats, such as the cinnamon and yeast rolls.

Best Steak to Try

In our opinion, the best steak to try at Logan’s Roadhouse is the prime rib. It’s a large 13-ounce cut that is perfectly seasoned with their signature rub. The cut is made with a lot of care. It’s slow-roasted for six hours, and it’s also hand-carved to order, so you get exactly what you want. Get a side of coconut shrimp or crab cakes for the perfect meal.

We all have our list of favorite restaurants. For me, Jimmy John’s has always been at the top of the list, and I used to go there at least once a week. However, over time, I have started to venture out and try other places, and I’ve discovered many other incredible sandwich spots. I have come up with a list of eight options that I think you should consider.

Some of these sandwich spots are likely familiar, like Quiznos and Jersey Mikes. They still make great sandwiches that I tend to favor above Jimmy John’s. There are also several deli restaurants that you should consider, like Jason’s Deli and McAlister’s Deli. Both serve great sandwiches and a number of tasty sides. Check out this list and see if you can find a new favorite.

Quiznos

The first of my new favorite sandwich spots is Quiznos. They take a lot of the guesswork out of ordering your sub by offering pre-made menu offerings. Another perk of going to Quiznos is that you can get toasted subs that are out of this world. There are also many Quiznos locations all over the place, so you never have to go far to get the perfect sandwich.

Best Sandwiches at Quiznos

There are various items on the Quiznos menu and any of them will satisfy your sandwich desires. However, if you only go there a few times, there are some sandwiches you should try. One of them is the French dip, which is perfected with black Angus steak and Swiss cheese. Another great sandwich is the Chipotle steak & cheddar. Get it on the recommended rosemary parmesan bread, and it’ll be a meal you never forget.

Panera Bread

While they’re known for many different items, I go to Panera Bread for the sandwiches. Over time, their menu offerings have been on another level and I’m really enjoying them. The best thing is that you can get great side dishes with your sandwich, like salad or their famous macaroni and cheese. You get everything you want at a great price.

Best Sandwiches at Panera Bread

There are numerous tasty items on the menu that make Panera Bread one of my favorite sandwich spots. One of the best sandwiches is the Smokehouse BBQ chicken sandwich, which is loaded with smoked pulled chicken, melty white cheddar, and more. Another great sandwich is the green goddess caprese melt. This sandwich gives you tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, arugula, and other tasty ingredients all on an incredible toasted baguette.

Jason’s Deli

When you’re sick of eating at Jimmy John’s, turn to another “J” in the phone book, and go to Jason’s Deli. Despite the name, this is a big restaurant with many great options. There are countless sandwich choices plus tasty soups that truly complete the meal. Best of all, the restaurant chain claims that it has removed all trans fats from the menu, so it’s a healthy option too.

Best Sandwiches at Jason’s Deli

Jason’s Deli is a very high-quality restaurant with almost endless sandwich options. If you only go once or twice, then there are a couple of options to try. One of them is The Carmela. It’s a flavor-packed sandwich with three types of meat. It also has mayo, provolone, and spicy piquillo pepper relish. The other must-have sandwich is the smokey jack panini. It’s loaded with smoked turkey breast, pepper jack cheese, and a wonderful topping of Thousand Island dressing.

Potbelly Sandwich Shop

Potbelly Sandwich Shop is a great restaurant chain with a unique vibe and delicious sandwiches. Most of the menu items are highly customizable with unbelievably flavorful toasted bread and stellar ingredients. This is a great sandwich shop for folks who want something a bit different than the typical restaurant. There’s a good chance that you have never tried Potbelly, and if so, it’s time to rectify that.

Best Sandwiches at Potbelly

Potbelly is truly one of the best sandwich spots because of its incredible menu. During your very first visit, you need to try the steakhouse beef sandwich. It offers strong flavors of horseradish and blue cheese, and it comes complete with roast beef, provolone, and other tasty ingredients. During your second visit to Potbelly, try the chicken club. You’ve likely had chicken clubs before, but the addition of bacon here makes all the difference.

Firehouse Subs

The name of this amazing sandwich place doesn’t really do it justice. Without going in, you may not realize that Firehouse Subs is the home of incredible gourmet subs. Regardless of the sandwich you get, you’re promised premium cheese and meat on incredible toasted bread. They serve both hot and cold sandwiches, and they’re all amazing.

Best Sandwiches at Firehouse Subs

When you walk into a sandwich place known for gourmet sandwiches, you know that just about anything you pick will be delicious. However, if you need help, we have some suggestions. One is the Hook & Ladder sub, which is a sandwich that’s loaded with Virginia honey ham and turkey breast. Another great choice is the Firehouse meatball sub. It has perfectly cooked meatballs covered with tasty melted provolone.

Jersey Mike’s

Jersey Mike’s has been around since 1975, and since then, they’ve become famous for great customer service and amazing subs. This is now one of the most famous sandwich places, with over 2,800 locations. Make sure to visit one and you can get a sub with the freshest ingredients and the finest spices.

Best Sandwiches at Jersey Mike’s

Almost every sub sandwich place will have an Italian sandwich, but none are quite as good as The Original Italian at Mike’s. The sandwich is absolutely stacked with meat, including salami, pepperoni, and cappacuolo. It’s also a bargain at less than $13. Another great sandwich is the Club Sub, which is loaded with applewood-smoked bacon, provolone, turkey, and ham. It also has a special mayo that will ignite your taste buds.

McAlister’s Deli

McAlister’s Deli is easily one of the best sandwich spots in the country. They have a great lineup of incredible meals and a number of great sides. During your visit, you can try many of their nacho dishes, soups, salads, and more. They also have great desserts, ranging from Oreo cheesecake to red velvet cookies.

Best Sandwiches at McAlister’s Deli

There are a number of tasty dishes at McAlister’s Deli. One of them is the Horseradish Roast Beef and Cheddar. It has the great meat mentioned in the title plus a great horseradish mayo and the perfect complement of red onions. Another must-have sandwich is the Spicy Turkey melt. This is a tall and tasty sandwich that comes complete with spicy chipotle ranch and avocado, which gives it a great taste.

Schlotzsky’s Deli

Back in the beginning, Schlotzsky’s Deli only had one sandwich. It was an Italian sandwich that was so large that it could serve multiple people at once. Since then, the restaurant has expanded, and now there are a number of tasty sandwiches to try. They also have a number of side dishes that will leave you truly satisfied.

Best Sandwiches at Schlotzsky’s Deli

There are numerous tasty sandwiches at Schlotzsky’s Deli, including the original sandwich they’ve been selling all of these years. One of them is the turkey bacon club, which has turkey, bacon, cheddar, and parmesan. It’s a tasty meal. Another good one is the Deluxe Original, which has several types of meat, including ham, cotto salami, and Genoa salami. If you’re still hungry, you can also try one of their famous pizzas or calzones.

Though the restaurant has had its ups and downs over the years, most people will tell you that Cracker Barrel is a great place to eat. They have a huge menu with a wide variety of entrees. You can go in the morning and get a big breakfast then visit again at night and enjoy chicken fried steak. They also have sandwiches, adult beverages, steak, and more. However, if you’re looking to add a little variety to your routine, then know that there are other Southern establishments that are just good if not better.

From the leisure of fast food restaurants like Krystal and Golden Chick to the great atmosphere of sit-down restaurants like Logan’s Roadhouse to Texas Roadhouse, there’s a lot out there to consider. Take a look at this list and you may find your new Cracker Barrel alternative.

Bojangles

Bojangles is one of the Southern establishments that everyone should try at least once. Their main options involve variations of fried chicken. Bojangles is worth a try if you like the chicken options at Cracker Barrel. Many people go there for their signature fried chicken, but you may also like the maple bacon grilled chicken. No matter what you prefer, you can get something great at Bojangles, and there will be no long wait to eat!

Here’s What to Order

There are a limited number of options at Bojangles, but they’re all delicious. Order their fried boneless chicken that you can eat by itself or on a bun. Bojangles also has a great selection of fried chicken nuggets that come with a delicious jug of iced tea. The restaurant also has a big selection of tasty sides, ranging from fries and rice to green beans and coleslaw.

Waffle House

You may not immediately think about Waffle House when you consider the best Southern establishments, but if you like Cracker Barrel, then you’ll like this. The food is good at the Barrel. However, if you’re really hungry for breakfast, then go to a restaurant that specializes in that type of food.

Here’s What to Order

If you haven’t been to Waffle House in a while, then it’s time to rectify that. The breakfast restaurant has come a long way since the 1990s, and they have some spectacular dishes. If you’re extra hungry, stop in for the All-Star Special, which supplies you with waffles, eggs, bacon, and toast. Waffle House also has a number of great omelets.

Logan’s Roadhouse

Although it’s not a five-star steak restaurant, there are some great options at Cracker Barrel. They even have a couple of tasty New York strip options. However, if you’re going there for the meat but don’t want to deal with the long wait times, then go to Logan’s Roadhouse. They serve all things steak and BBQ, and you’ll probably find yourself going back again.

Here’s What to Order

There are many mouthwatering dishes at Logan’s Roadhouse. The large menu features chicken, pasta, various appetizers, desserts, and more. As far as steak, you can get a 22 oz. porterhouse, the New York strip, and more. All of these steaks are cooked to order, and they’re served with tasty sides. It is one of the best discount steak restaurants you can try.

Famous Dave’s

The South is very famous for its BBQ dishes. If you live in the North, you can still find good BBQ, but it’s a little harder to find. Cracker Barrel doesn’t have much in the way of BBQ, so you may have to look elsewhere, and Famous Dave’s may be the solution. Famous Dave’s is a major chain that serves a number of tasty dishes, ranging from ribs and brisket to amazing BBQ sandwiches.

Here’s What to Order

Famous Dave’s is one of the best Southern establishments to visit when you have a hankering for authentic BBQ. There are many dishes you need to try at least once. For instance, during your first visit, you need to try some of their award-winning ribs. They’re perfectly tender and the meat falls off of the bone. During your second visit, try one of their BBQ sandwiches.

Hattie B’s Hot Chicken

If you love hot chicken and you’ll settle for nothing less than perfection, then you need to stop at Hattie B’s Hot Chicken at least once. The restaurant is mostly located in the South, so you may need to take a drive, but trust us, it’s worth it. Cracker Barrel has some good chicken dishes, but they don’t have anything close to what you’ll get at Hattie B’s.

Here’s What to Order

There are many tasty dishes at Hattie B’s, but keep in mind that just about everything is mildly hot to very hot. The heat levels rise from “Mild” to “Shut the Cluck Up!!!,” which is extremely hot. You can get anything from chicken tenders to chicken and waffles at any of these heat levels. Whatever you choose, you won’t regret it.

Golden Chick

Golden Chick is a great southern restaurant chain that serves some of the best fried-chicken in the nation. It’s just like what you’d eat at Cracker Barrel, but much more affordable, and you don’t have to wait forever to be seated and served. Order here, and you’ll get the chicken you love, plus extra sides, pickles, or whatever else you choose.

Here’s What to Order

You’ll be shocked by how large the menu is at Golden Chick, which is why it’s one of the premier Southern establishments. If you only go once, consider one of the many Golden Combos. One of the best is the Golden Fried Chicken, which comes with 1-3 pieces of chicken plus your choice of side and a yeast roll. Another great option is the Texas Pecan Chicken Salad Sandwich.

Krystal

Krystal is a restaurant that started in the South. They are similar to another restaurant, White Castle, in that they sell small burgers. However, they’re more than that. While there, you can get a chicken sandwich, fried chicken wings, small hot dogs, and more. No, it won’t be the same as going to Cracker Barrel, but if you’re looking for similar comfort food, then you can’t go wrong.

Here’s What to Order

Krystal is a great fast food restaurant to visit if you like the breakfast food options at Cracker Barrel. If you live near a Krystal, be sure to stop in for the sausage gravy biscuit or the sausage gravy biscuit scrambler. You can even go in and try their famous three-egg breakfast plate, which also comes with bacon!

Texas Roadhouse

Southern establishments don’t get any better than Texas Roadhouse. This is another restaurant that, similar to Cracker Barrel, sells a little bit of everything, and they do it well! Go there for great stakes, catfish, chicken dishes, and more.

Here’s What to Order

You’ll want to go to Texas Roadhouse many times because they have a menu full of goodies. If you like hand-cut steaks, you can’t go wrong with the Dallas filet that will melt in your mouth. If chicken is more of your thing, then we recommend the country-fried chicken. Another great choice is the chicken critters, which are two tenders that are perfectly cooked. The grilled BBQ chicken is another must-have dish.

Retro ’70s Restaurants That Have Closed Their Doors https://www.momswhothink.com/retro-70s-restaurants-that-have-closed-their-doors/ https://www.momswhothink.com/retro-70s-restaurants-that-have-closed-their-doors/#respond Tue, 11 Feb 2025 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=266374&preview=true&preview_id=266374 The post Retro ’70s Restaurants That Have Closed Their Doors appeared first on Moms Who Think.

The 1970s was a decade of innovation and change, bringing advancements in technology like cell phones, video games, and computers as well as bold fashion trends such as bell bottoms and platform shoes. It was also a time of evolving tastes in food and music. Alongside these cultural shifts, a wave of new businesses and restaurants emerged across the country, each using unique gimmicks and marketing strategies to attract customers.

It seemed as though new eateries were emerging almost everywhere. Finding a restaurant that served your favorite foods close to home wasn’t too hard. Still, while many restaurants during this decade were successful, they didn’t always last long. Most of these classic ’70s restaurants are either just a memory or are on there way to becoming one.

Howard Johnson’s

For a long time, Howard Johnson’s was one of the most recognizable restaurants in the country. This famous orange-roofed restaurant was everywhere, with over 1,000 locations across the country. There was a huge menu in each restaurant that had something for everyone, including fried clams and 28 ice cream flavors. Sadly, though this was one of the most famous 1970s restaurants, it only lasted until 1979.

That’s when Marriott bought the company, and they proceeded to shut down all company-owned Howard Johnson’s locations. Soon after, the franchise restaurants closed, and the rest was history. Most recently, the restaurant was made famous for being on episodes of “Mad Men.”

Burger Chef

If the name Burger Chef reminds you of McDonalds then that makes sense. After all, during its heyday, Burger Chef was the second most popular restaurant, second only to Micky D’s. Like its competitor, Burger Chef locations were all over the United States.

Their most noteworthy burger was the Big Shef, which was a double cheeseburger with a special sauce. The company was eventually purchased by the company that owns Hardees. The chain started to die off in the 1980s, and the last Burger Chef restaurant closed in 1996.

Sambo’s

Sambo’s is one of the 1970s restaurants that doesn’t exist anymore, and that’s mostly because of its theme. The restaurant was named after the character Sambo, and the walls were covered with Sambo artwork and decorations. The problem was the book the restaurant was based on, “The Story of Little Sambo” which is widely considered to be racist.

During the 1970s, that fact didn’t seem to hurt the franchise much, as they had over 1,000 restaurants by 1979. Still, the name caught up with them and they ended up filing for bankruptcy in 1981 and closing all restaurants. There is one left standing, but they are changing their name, so Sambo’s will officially be dead.

Taco Viva

Before Taco Bell became the most popular option for quick Mexican food, Taco Viva was the place to go. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, this franchise grew from humble beginnings, and by the end of its run, there were 85 restaurants in 11 different states. Like Taco Bell, the sign and building was immediately recognizable, and it was a great place go to. However, like many other fast-food taco joints, it soon met its end.

Lums

It’s amazing how a major restaurant can grow from humble beginnings, and that’s exactly what happened with Lums. The restaurant began as just a single hot dog stand in Florida. However, with hard work and dedication, the company was able to grow by leaps and bounds and had 400 franchises across the country.

Their claim to fame was the frosted glass beers, fried seafood, and beer-steamed hot dogs. They were doing well during the 1970s but decided to sell the restaurants late into the decade. By 1983, all but one restaurant had closed, with the last one closing in 2017.

Gino’s Hamburgers

The Marriott company was busy during the 1970s. In addition to purchasing Howard Johnson’s, they also claimed Gino’s Hamburgers, which was started by a couple of NFL players in Baltimore. This was a very meat-focused restaurant and their most famous burger was the Sirloiner, which was two buns and thick sirloin steak.

Throughout the 1970s, the restaurant ruled the East Coast and they were on their way to the Midwest when they were purchased by Marriott, who turned all the locations into Roy Rogers restaurants instead. While the restaurant chain is not as popular as it once was, there are still two Gino’s Burgers locations in Maryland as of 2024.

Naugles

Naugles was another of the go-to Mexican food chain restaurants that started in 1970 and then gained steam during that decade and beyond. The chain started in Riverside, California, but they quickly began to expand to other states, from Nevada to Florida. The beginning of the end occurred when Naugles merged with Del Taco. By 1995, all Naugles were converted to Del Taco, and that was it for the popular chain.

Steak and Ale

One of the most beloved of the 1970s restaurants was Steak and Ale. It was an old-school-looking restaurant that served steak at a great price. Plus, they had an unlimited salad bar and tasty dishes, including the herb-roasted prime rib. Steak and Ale combined forces with another restaurant in 1976 and grew to over 100 locations.

As the restaurant headed into the 80s, the chain changed ownership many times, and that’s never good for business. Although there are no Steak and Ale restaurants left, you can still purchase a franchise restaurant today if you’re up to reviving the chain.

Burger Queen

New restaurant owners are always trying to get ideas from existing franchises, and that was the case for Burger Queen. It was supposed to be an unofficial combination of Diary Queen and Burger King, and it began in Florida in 1956. They served burgers, shakes, and fries. From the 50s till the end of the 70s, Burger Queen was doing pretty good.

Then, in 1981, they changed their name to Druther’s because they started also serving salad and fried chicken. They reached about 170 restaurants but then decided to sell to Dairy Queen. They converted the restaurants, and thus, Burger Queen is no more.

Rax Roast Beef

These days, Arby’s is one of the biggest restaurants around when it comes to the finest roast beef sandwiches. However, before Arby’s, there was Rax Roast Beef. The chain began in Ohio in 1967 and served the finest roast beef sandwiches in the state.

They were so good that they expanded to 38 other states and had over 500 restaurants. However, while the chain has mostly died, it hasn’t been completely wiped from the face of the earth — there are still five locations left.

Wags

Things were pretty crazy back in the 1970s when stores did things you just don’t see anymore. One of them was when the famous Walgreens pharmacy decided to launch its own restaurant chain. Since Walgreens is open late, they wanted to have a 24-hour restaurant chain where families could eat at all times of the day and night.

Then, when they were done, they could do some shopping in the drugstore. However, once again, Marriott struck and bought the restaurants. Eventually, Marriott decided to get out of the restaurant game, and when Wags couldn’t find an owner, the eatery went bye-bye.

Pup ‘N’ Taco

If you were a youngster living in California in the 1970s, you likely ate at a Pup ‘N’ Taco at least once. This was a tasty restaurant where you could get a variety of dishes, including tacos, pastrami sandwiches, and tostadas, among other interesting items. They also had a huge variety of very tasty hot dogs.

The chain began in 1956, and by the 1980s, there were over 100 locations. However, it was around then that a newer restaurant, Taco Bell, was dominating the scene, and they were just too big. Pup ‘N’ Taco could not compete. Taco Bell ended up purchasing all of the Pup ‘N’ Taco locations in 1984.

Red Barn

The Red Barn restaurants were not hard to spot during the 1960s and 1970s. Most of the establishments looked like an actual red barn in the middle of a city atmosphere. The chain had meager beginnings in the 1960s in Ohio but soon grew by leaps and bounds. During the 70s, there were over 400 locations in 22 states.

Some of their signature dishes included their Barnbuster and Big Barney burgers, which were quite delicious. However, the chain met its demise like so many others do. During the late 1970s, the chain started to change owners and then it was sold a few times, and inevitably, the stores all closed by the 1980s.

When it comes to hamburgers, it’s no surprise that McDonalds is usually the place people think of. As the largest burger chain in the world with more than 41,800 locations globally, this burger giant is a global powerhouse. But that doesn’t necessarily mean they are the best burger. Sure, they may be known for their Big Mac and double cheeseburger, but there are 10 burger spots that are even better than McDonalds.

Check out these other burger spots on our list and see if you’ll want to trade in your visits to the golden arches for a tastier joint in town.

Wendy’s

Wendy’s is quickly becoming our go-to burger spot, and it’s the same for many others. Wendy’s just seems to take more pride in their food than many other popular burger restaurants. Plus, they have a nice variety. Many people also believe that their fries are also better than McDonalds and many other burger joints.

The Burger to Try

While just about everything is good at Wendy’s, if it’s your first time going, try the Baconator. Critics and customers agree that this sandwich has an incredible flavor profile. Most people also like that it’s actually covered with a generous amount of bacon. This burger is one of the main reasons to ever go to Wendy’s.

Burger King

According to QSR Magazine, Burger King continues to be the third most popular go-to burger spot in America. Burger King is slowly taking McDonald’s spot on our all-time favorite list. First of all, the fries just might be the best of any fast food restaurant. They also have a great variety, with more items being added all of the time.

The Burger to Try

If you’re coming here for the first time, start with what makes the restaurant famous. Try a Whopper. The beef patty has a good amount of smokiness, the toppings are delicious, and the buns are just right. Get it with extra pickles and you’re in for a real treat.

Sonic Drive-In

This is another amazing burger restaurant that seems to sink under the radar, but they have some good options. The menu is very large and has something for everyone. Many of their burgers are simple, but they pack a lot of flavor. They also have great drink selections.

The Burger to Try

In our opinion, the best burger at Sonic is the Hickory BBQ Cheeseburger. The burger has a perfect combination of meat, mayonnaise, BBQ sauce, and pickles. Even if you’re not a huge BBQ fan, it’s still worth trying.

Jack in the Box

Another go-to burger spot to try when you want a lot of variety is Jack in the Box. The menu is relatively inexpensive, and there’s something for everyone. They’re always adding something new, and the meals are always consistently good.

The Burger to Try

In the past, the best sandwich at Jack in the Box was the Deli Trio but they don’t make that anymore. However, the Sourdough Jack is quickly replacing it. The sourdough buns are perfectly toasted. There are also tasty slices of bacon and tomatoes. You’ll also get a topping of ketchup and mayo. It makes for a perfect burger.

Whataburger

It’s a sad fact that Whataburger restaurants aren’t in every state. However, if you’re near one, you may find that they have your new favorite burgers. The menu here isn’t huge, but almost everything is worth ordering at least once. Many people also love their fries.

The Burger to Try

For our money, the best burger at Whataburger is the Bacon Blaze Jalapeño Double. This burger isn’t available all of the time, but try it if you get the chance. It has the perfect amount of bacon, jalapeños, and jalapeño ranch dressing. It’s hot but not so hot that it’s not enjoyable. Add a side of fries for the perfect lunch.

Culver’s

There are several tasty burgers at Culver’s restaurants, including the Butter Burger that put the restaurant on the map. However, they also have other dishes and ice cream. This is another restaurant that isn’t found everywhere but it’s worth a try if you find it.

The Burger to Try

If you go to Culver’s, start by getting the Butter Burger. It is made from never-frozen meat, so it’s as fresh as you’ll get. It also comes with a buttered bun that you won’t get anywhere else. Some people consider the Butter Burger to be the best burger ever made. There’s also the Culver’s Deluxe, which has tasty toppings and is worth a try.

Five Guys

This is another go-to burger spot that often falls under the radar. They offer burgers, hot dogs, fries, milkshakes, and more. They specialize in hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and bacon. The hot dogs are also pretty good. Try it once, and it may become your new favorite.

The Burger to Try

There aren’t many different burgers at Five Guys, but they’re all worth a try. If you can choose only one, go for the Bacon Cheeseburger. Many restaurants have cheeseburgers, but this one has the best cheese of them all and it’s perfectly placed on the sandwich. There’s also crispy bacon, perfect pickles, and tasty buns.

Hardee’s

Hardee’s is a great burger joint that has many great options. It’s more than just burgers. They also have chicken platters, biscuits, breakfast platters, and more. It’s more like good home cooking in a restaurant, and it’s worth a try. The fries are great as well without the need for condiments.

The Burger to Try

Of the options at Hardee’s, our favorite is the Bacon Cheeseburger. This burger has some of the best bacon of any sandwich on this list. It’s perfectly crisp. The cheese is especially gooey, and the beef is top-notch. Get it with a side of fries.

In-N-Out Burger

In-N-Out Burger is often in the discussion of the best burger restaurants of all time. In fact, they were responsible for the first drive-through microphone for ordering. They also have one of the best menus on the planet. There are only a few menu options, but they’re all amazing. Stop by one if you’re lucky enough to have the restaurant in your state.

The Burger to Try

You really only have three options at In-N-Out. If you can only choose one, go with the standard Double-Double. It has two beef patties, two slices of cheese, and perfectly browned buns. Best of all, this and all the other burgers here are made fresh. You can even see them cut the fries from potatoes while you wait.

Shake Shack

Shake Shack is a great place to go if you want a delicious milkshake and a great atmosphere. It’s also one of the best go-to burger spots in town. There’s also a big menu of tasty treats, from burgers to chicken sandwiches and glorious French fries. You could eat there every day, and it would never get old.

The Burger to Try

There are countless tasty burgers to try at Shake Shack. However, our very favorite is the Shack Stack. This one is different than many others on this list because, in addition to a juicy beef patty, it also has a huge, fried portobello mushroom on it. Even if you don’t love mushrooms, this one is worth a try.

Every year, more burger restaurants pop up around the nation. With such a huge selection, it’s natural that every one of us will have our favorites. For us, it’s Whataburger. For years, we’ve loved the perfectly cooked burgers and the tasty sides. However, over time, we’ve begun to look for something new, and we believe we have found it. Yes, Whataburger is delicious. However, these other burger spots are just plain better.

We’ve selected eight different restaurants that we feel give our old favorite a run for its money. We tempt you to try one or all of these restaurants, especially if you’re a Whataburger fan. You may find your new favorite.

16 Lucky Cities and Towns Getting More Wawa Locations https://www.momswhothink.com/lucky-cities-and-towns-getting-more-wawa-locations/ https://www.momswhothink.com/lucky-cities-and-towns-getting-more-wawa-locations/#respond Mon, 10 Feb 2025 16:05:02 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=266050&preview=true&preview_id=266050 The post 16 Lucky Cities and Towns Getting More Wawa Locations appeared first on Moms Who Think.

When it comes to convenience stores in America, you have plenty of options to choose from. In fact, you can’t drive more than a mile down the road without running across one gas station or another. Even though many of these gas stations are similar, Wawa is different from all the rest. Located mostly on the East Coast, Wawa is a large convenience store chain that offers everything from fuel to bacon and eggs. If we’ve piqued your interest, then you may be in luck because many more Wawa locations are coming in the future.

On this list, we’ll tell you about 16 new locations that will soon be home to a Wawa. Will your town be the next big recipient? We sure hope so!

What Is Wawa?

The first question you may be asking yourself is, “What is a Wawa?” The second question is, “Why are people so excited about more Wawa locations?” Although the name doesn’t tell you much, Wawa is a popular gas station chain. In addition to selling fuel, Wawa also has a wide assortment of food, beverages, and other wares. It’s one of those places where you can go in and get everything you need for a road trip or an all-night movie marathon. Their menu includes items for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and they even sell fresh baked goods.

How Is Wawa Different From Other Gas Stations?

Many gas stations sell food and snacks, but Wawa brings it to another level. If you’re hungry for breakfast, you’ll find everything from breakfast hoagies and toasted bagels to avocado toast, paninis, omelet sandwiches, and more. For lunch or dinner, you can choose from items such as chicken, soup, salad, or an extra-large pizza. Wawa also offers an extensive rewards program that allows you to get even more. As you can see, there are many reasons why people are excited about more Wawa locations.

Best Items at Wawa

There are many aspects of Wawa that set it apart from other gas stations. One of the best parts of Wawa is the coffee. The company has its own line of coffee that you can even order from the company’s website. You can also go to Wawa and get items from their grocery section, which includes bread, peanut butter, bacon, eggs, and more. Wawa even sells some of the best quality toilet paper. Another great aspect of Wawa is that you can go there with your fuel or electric car and get what you need to stay on the road.

Where Is Wawa Located Now?

Before we look at more Wawa locations, let’s look at where Wawa convenience stores are today. There are currently close to 1,100 Wawa locations in the United States. Wawa is located in 10 different states and over 550 cities. That may seem like a lot, but most of them are along the East Coast in states like Florida, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Some southern states, including Georgia and Alabama, have a Wawa, but there are fewer than five in each of those states.

New Location in Mobile

Our list of more Wawa locations begins in Mobile, Alabama. This is the location where a new store recently opened at 7095 Cottage Hill Road. The company promises that this Wawa will have all of the goodies that have made the gas station famous.

New Robertsdale Location

The Wawa corporation has said they will be opening more than seven stores in and around the town of Robertsdale, Alabama in the coming years. The newest Wawa is at 21022 Highway 59. Needless to say, the people there have a lot to be excited about.

Wawa Coming to Florida

Florida is one of the states with the most Wawa locations in the nation, and they are about to get more. When you need a gas fill-up, go to 435 E. Merritt Island Causeway. In addition to the gas station, this newly developed area will also have new restaurants and retail stores.

New Location in Ocala, FL

Another Wawa is headed to Florida in the city of Ocala. If you live there, you know that there are already six locations in the state – but who can get enough Wawa?! This new location will be at 2277 S.W. Highway 484.

The First of Many New Wawas in New Jersey

There are many more Wawa locations coming to the state of New Jersey. The first on this list is the gas station coming to 75 Route 206. This will be one of over 290 stations in the state.

A Wawa in Logan Township

Yet another Wawa to add to the nearly 300 locations in the state will be found in Logan Township. More specifically, it will be at 2691 Route 322. If you’re a true Wawa fan, then you can drive 30 minutes and check out the company’s headquarters, which is in Media, Pennsylvania.

Continued Expansion in Piscataway

It seems that Wawas will never stop growing in New Jersey because a new station can be found at Stelton Avenue and S. Washington Avenue.

Wawa in West Windsor, New Jersey

The final confirmed new Wawa can be found in West Windsor. The new gas station is already a big hit. It’s incredible what this company is doing in New Jersey and it’s even more wild to consider that the company began as an iron foundry way back in 1803.

Wawa Comes to Elizabeth City

There are more Wawa locations coming to North Carolina. The first on this list is the new gas station located at 406 Halstead Road in Elizabeth City. The people of NC are very excited, and many people are even turning in job applications to work there.

Wawa in Rocky Mount

In the near future, the Wawa company hopes to have at least 10 new gas stations in North Carolina. That plan continues with the new location in Rocky Mount, NC. You can find it at 1450 Benvenue Road.

A Wilson Wawa

The final new Wawa in North Carolina will be found in Wilson, NC and located at 5003 Raleigh Road Parkway W.

3 New Wawa Locations in Ohio

There are also more Wawa locations coming to Ohio. If they’re not there yet, don’t worry – they’re coming soon. You’ll find them in Liberty Township, Noblesville, and Huber Heights. This is a big move for the company, and an exciting development for residents of Ohio.

More Wawa in Pennsylvania

There are already Wawa gas stations in Pennsylvania, but the company will now be putting their footprint down in central PA. The newest location will be located at Harrisburg Pike and Meade Road.

Wawa in Virginia

Finally, the people of Virginia will likely be excited to learn about the new Wawa gas station at 8150 Ladysmith Road in Ruther Glen. It’s an exciting development for all.

The Top 10 Buffet-Style Restaurants Boomers Swear By https://www.momswhothink.com/the-top-10-buffet-style-restaurants-boomers-swear-by/ https://www.momswhothink.com/the-top-10-buffet-style-restaurants-boomers-swear-by/#respond Mon, 10 Feb 2025 15:00:00 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=266007&preview=true&preview_id=266007 The post The Top 10 Buffet-Style Restaurants Boomers Swear By appeared first on Moms Who Think.

Buffets and all-you-can-eat restaurants have been a popular dining choice in the United States for decades. It’s a concept that caught on after being introduced at the 1939 World’s Fair and grew in popularity in the 1940s. Which is why it comes as no surprise that the Boomer generation, those born between 1946 and 1964, are partial to buffet-style restaurants.

While many Gen Xers and Millennials have grown up visiting a variety of buffets in the 80s and 90s, it’s the Baby Boomers who are particularly familiar with buffet-style restaurants and there are a specific top 10 that they swear by.

The U.S. was once home to thousands of all-you-can-eat restaurants, but they have gradually been on the decline. Buffets took a huge hit during the COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with maintenance costs and their numbers are continually on the decline. But some still prevail.

10. Eat’n Park

Guest picks up different food at the breakfast buffet at the hotel

Eat’n Park is a family restaurant chain that’s been open since 1949. This restaurant based in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Any day of the week you can enjoy their Soup, Salad, & Fruit Bar but that’s not the only option for buffet lovers. Eat’n Park also offers a Saturday Breakfast Buffet and Sunday Brunch with plenty of breakfast favorites.

9. Pizza Ranch

Pizza Ranch is a pizza buffet that originated in Hull, Iowa. The first location opened in 1981 and now there are over 200 locations in the Midwest. Like many other pizza buffets, Pizza Ranch offers many choices, including pizza, salad, sides, and desserts. They’re also known for serving The Country’s Best Chicken, which is fried chicken made with a unique blend of spices and seasonings.

8. Sirloin Stockade

Sirloin Stockade has been open since 1966 and offers both a hot and cold buffet. Even though Sirloin Stockade is one of the most popular buffets, especially among Baby Boomers, there are only locations in four different states. Out of the four states, Texas has the most Sirloin Stockades with five different locations across Texas.

7. Quaker Steak & Lube

Grilled chicken wings with ketchup and mustard sauces on a wooden board. Traditional baked bbq buffalo

The Quaker Steak & Lube restaurants were born out of a desire to preserve the culture of old gas stations. Created by George “Jig” Warren III and Gary “Moe” Meszaros in 1974, there are locations in nine different states with over 50 locations nationwide.

Although it’s not available at every location, some of the Quaker Steak & Lube locations have a lunch buffet that offers a variety of food choices. Some locations also offer an all-you-can-eat wing night.

6. Pizza Inn

Two brothers from Texas opened the first Pizza Inn restaurant in 1958. There are now over 100 Pizza Inn locations in the US with the headquarters in Dallas, TX. Pizza Inn offers a buffet with various types of pizzas including their signature Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza and Chicken Fajita Pizza. They’re also known for their dessert pizza and their buffet includes pasta, desserts, and other sides as well.

5. Western Sizzlin

Dinner table with fried chicken wings and strips, roasted potatoes, french fries, coleslaw and sauces. Homemade southern fried chicken. Fried chicken meal

Western Sizzlin first opened in Augusta, GA in 1962. Although the company that owns Western Sizzlin has opened Wood Grill Buffet and Great American Buffet, there are still some Western Sizzlin Buffet locations in the US. These buffets exist in the South and offer a wide variety of Southern classics such as fried chicken, mac and cheese, and other delicious sides.

4. Shoney’s

For over 75 years, Shoney’s has been a popular family restaurant. The first Shoney’s location opened in 1947 and even today, there are locations in 16 different states. One of the most popular parts of Shoney’s is the Fresh Food Bar, which features everything from seafood and salads to vegetables and soup.

3. CiCi’s Pizza

CiCi’s Pizza is a classic pizza buffet that’s been around since 1985. This restaurant was the original pizza buffet and there are still over 200 locations nationwide. Although CiCi’s Pizza has been at risk of going out of business numerous times, CiCi’s was eventually sold to an investment firm and continues to thrive in many locations. CiCi’s buffet serves not only pizza but also wings, salads, pasta, sides, and desserts.

2. Golden Corral

Golden Corral is one of the top buffets in the country and is a top choice for families nationwide. The first Golden Corral restaurant opened in 1973 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. They offer an all-you-can-eat buffet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Even with the decline in all-you-can-eat restaurants, there are still nearly 400 Golden Corral locations in the US.

1. Pizza Hut

According to Boomers, Pizza Hut is the best buffet out there. The first Pizza Hut opened in Wichita, Kansas in 1958. The lunch buffet is no longer available at every Pizza Hut location and many closed down after the COVID-19 Pandemic started.

However, many locations are bringing it back and it’s a great deal if you’re looking for all-you-can-eat pizza. At the Pizza Hut lunch buffet, you’ll find all your favorite pizza varieties and numerous sides.

I Once Loved Domino’s Pizza – But These 6 Reasons Made Me Stop Ordering It https://www.momswhothink.com/i-once-loved-dominos-pizza-but-these-reasons-made-me-stop-ordering-it/ https://www.momswhothink.com/i-once-loved-dominos-pizza-but-these-reasons-made-me-stop-ordering-it/#respond Mon, 10 Feb 2025 00:50:18 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=264964&preview=true&preview_id=264964 The post I Once Loved Domino’s Pizza – But These 6 Reasons Made Me Stop Ordering It appeared first on Moms Who Think.

These days, there are many options when it comes to ordering pizza. Regardless of my options, for many years, the only pizza I had delivered was from Domino’s. I found myself eating there every other weekend. However, times have changed and so have I. Over the years, I’ve found that I stopped ordering Domino’s Pizza so often and I’ve started to branch out to other pizza places.

What made me stop? Well, I have many reasons – six to be exact. Among them is how many of my favorite menu items have disappeared over time and that the pizza is starting to lack the quality that I thought it had all those years ago. There’s also the fact that most of their food is pretty unhealthy. Read on to review my full list of reasons why I no longer order Domino’s. Do you agree with any of the criticisms?

Factor 1: Many of Their Classic Dishes Have Been Discontinued

The first reason why I’ve stopped ordering Domino’s Pizza is that they have discontinued many of their classic dishes. One of the beloved dishes was their Brooklyn Style Pizza. Brooklyn-style is typically a slice that has a thin crust but holds a lot of toppings. Domino’s quietly took the slice off their menu. Another old-school pizza that people liked was the Chicken Taco Pizza. The pizza had a great combination of flavors, but ultimately, it also disappeared into the night.

Other Discontinued Menu Items

Domino’s hasn’t stopped removing items from the menu and many desserts that people enjoyed are no longer available, including the Oreo Dessert Pizza. It was a huge “pizza” covered with creme and Oreo cookies. What’s not to love? Apparently, it didn’t sell well and was discontinued. Back in the 1980s, Domino’s also experimented with breakfast pizzas. The menu offering had sliced American cheese and liquid egg. It was a good idea, but they may have been ahead of the times. Sadly, the item is no longer available.

Factor 2: They’ve Been Raising Their Prices

Due to inflation and other economic issues, many companies are finding the need to raise prices to stay competitive to make a profit. We get that – but sometimes, price hikes can be too much to take. Back in 2022, some of the prices for the menu items at Domino’s were raised by 7%, which can be a lot depending on the item. Many of the menu items that were affected were combo meals, including their Mix and Match meal, which went up by a dollar. However, that’s not the only way they have changed things and upset their customer base.

Changing Menu Items

Some items on the Domino’s menu haven’t increased in cost, but the company has modified them in other ways that customers don’t like. A couple of years ago, they changed the number of wings they provided for a carryout meal from 10 to eight. It’s not the end of the world, but the changes could deter customers from eating there. Plus, when a pizza costs more than what someone can get at the supermarket, it doesn’t provide a big incentive to go to Domino’s.

Factor 3: The Food is Low Quality

Domino’s was great in its heyday. People would order Domino’s for family dinners, events, gatherings, and more. However, that was when there were fewer options for pizza. Now, you can get gourmet pizza for delivery at countless restaurants. To stay competitive, Domino’s needs to up their game, but they’re just not doing what they need to. That’s not just our opinion, though.

High Number of Quality Complaints

We’re not alone when we say that the quality of Domino’s is not what it used to be. All you need to do is look at the customer complaints. There are complaints about the taste, the accuracy of the orders, the cost, and more. Part of the issue is that Domino’s tries to make and sell as many pizzas and other items as they can. By making them that quickly, they sacrifice quality. Even if it was made with quality and care, the pizza is also very unhealthy. Even the executives at Domino’s have admitted that the pizza tastes like cardboard. With reviews like that, why would we keep going?

Factor 4: It’s Often Cold When It’s Delivered

One of the reasons I used to order Domino’s Pizza is to have it delivered, so I could enjoy it at home or with friends. However, what I’m starting to realize is that when I finally get the food, it’s always cold, or close to it. It’s even worse when ordering both pizza and appetizers. What do you eat first? Something is likely to be cold, and it will likely sour your desire to order from there again. But that’s not it…

And It Doesn’t Reheat Well

Sadly, if you get your food and it’s cool or cold, you have no choice but to reheat it if you want warm pizza. The problem is that Domino’s food is notoriously bad in the microwave. The pizza often comes out soggy and gross, and that makes the whole experience even worse. Most pizza is still good when it’s cold, but if you’re like me and you’re not into that, then you may be more hesitant to order in the future.

Factor 5: Many Menu Items Have Too Much Fat

As you may suspect, eating at Domino’s is not what you would consider to be health food. To start, many of the dishes are loaded with saturated fat. One of the most unhealthy dishes, the Cali Chicken Bacon Ranch pizza, has 8 grams of saturated fat. That makes up 40% of your daily maximum. Another pizza, the ExtravaganZZa, has a whopping 400 calories per slice, and the whole thing also has 8 grams of saturated fat.

The Dangers of Saturated Fat

You’re probably aware that eating too much saturated fat is bad for your health. When you are constantly eating foods with too much saturated fat, it can raise the level of cholesterol in your blood. That will increase your chances of life-threatening illnesses, including stroke and heart disease. If you’re going to Domino’s and you get a full pizza, opt for just a slice or two. Then, watch what you’re eating for the rest of the day.

Factor 6: Most of the Menu Items Are Loaded With Calories

Just like how you need to be careful with the saturated fat you put in your body, you also need to worry about calories when you order Domino’s Pizza. Even some of the smallest dishes are loaded with calories, such as the Cheddar Bacon Loaded Tots. This appetizer has 1,000 calories. Another example is the Garlic Parmesan Wings, which have close to 400 calories for four wings – and that’s without dipping sauce. Even their popular sandwich, the Chicken Bacon Ranch, has 450 calories for half of a sandwich.

Beware of Calories

By having one meal at Domino’s, you could be going well past your daily recommended maximum for calories. The most obvious negative effect is weight gain, which leads to a host of other ailments. Not watching your calories can also lead to serious conditions, including diabetes, heart disease, and several types of cancer. With that said, there are some healthier items on the menu, like the veggie pizza or ham and pineapple pizza, but you still need to be careful.

Here in the United States, we have a wide range of restaurant chains to choose from. Are you in the mood for delicious Mexican cuisine? What about Chinese or classic American burgers? Chances are you can find something to meet those cravings in most towns. But what about Canadian cuisine? Is there such a thing? Canadian cuisine is often described as being able to encompass a wide range of multiethnic and multicultural cuisines. Therefore, the restaurants on this list all do an excellent job of capturing the spirit of Canadian favorites. That is why these seven Canadian restaurant chains desperately need to open in America. Triple O’s

Are you in the mood for a classic, delicious burger? Then Triple O’s is the place to visit. It is boasted as the best place to get a burger in Canada, with locations in Asia as well. This is one Canadian restaurant chains that need to come to America.

Why America Needs It

Americans love a good burger, there’s really no getting around it. Triple O’s tops theirs off with Canadian cheddar, smoked bacon, and Triple 0 sauce that makes every bite worth it. The meal is also served with tasty thick-cut fries. What is geared more towards Americans than this classic combo? Want to add something sweet to your meal? Order a hand-scooped milkshake to top it all off.

The Works Craft Burgers and Beer

Speaking of burgers, The Works is the place to buy gourmet burgers. Here you can choose from 50 different options. Additionally, there are more than 60 toppings to custom make the meal of your dreams.

Why America Needs It

The Works is an award-winning franchise. While you can customize the gourmet burger for your meal, those aren’t the only options. This chain also serves craft beers and wines, starters like wrecking balls, salads, and shakes. America can never have enough delicious burger joints to choose from.

Kelsey’s Original Roadhouse

Kelsey’s Original Roadhouse was started by brothers Paul, Peter, and Perry Jeffery. They would take trips to Chicago and were inspired by the Roadhouse menu. Unfortunately, these were options that weren’t found in Canada quite yet. Therefore, the brothers dreamed up starting a restaurant that did offer these menu options. In 1978 the first Kelsey’s Original Roadhouse was opened, and it quickly grew throughout Canada.

Why America Needs It

Sure, we have roadhouse grills and bars, but having Kelsey’s in America would bring a unique new chain to enjoy. Kelsey’s offers customers options like the delicious steak and blues salad or the smash burger quesadilla. Furthermore, if you are a fan of the show Cheers, you will love stepping foot into one of these restaurants because they modeled their atmosphere off the television show.

Swiss Chalet

The very first Swiss Chalet opened their doors in 1954. Here the inspiration was drawn from the Swiss cooking methods. Starting with chickens, the Swiss Chalet also developed a special sauce that was an instant success. From here, the restaurant only expanded in locations and in menu items.

Why America Needs It

Swiss Chalet has a unique and rich history that Americans should get to experience through their delicious menu items. Here customers can try their new chicken parm sandwich, rotisserie chicken poutine, BBQ back ribs, and so many other unique menu items that only the Swiss Chalet can make as tasty and mouthwatering.

Harvey’s

Harvey’s was opened in 1959. For 65 years this restaurant chain has been offering delicious burgers geared towards what you are craving.

Why America Needs It

Are you craving a loaded angus burger with all the toppings? What about a veggie burger that gives you the taste you desire without the animal meat? Harvey’s doesn’t stop there. They also have tasty crispy chicken sandwiches, chicken salads, wraps, and mouthwatering poutines to choose from. America is missing out by not having our Harveys to run to after work.

Milestones

Milestones is an upscale restaurant that was opened in 1989. Here the priority is developing an inviting atmosphere. Furthermore, the mantra here is all about hitting that milestone. The one where you know exactly what you like and who you are. At milestone you can enjoy a delicious meal in the restaurant that is set apart from all other restaurants.

Why America Needs It

Fast food is great, but the more sit-down restaurants we have the more we can truly enjoy the company of those we are with. While also slowing down and taking a break from the reality of life. At Milestones the menu is exceptional with favorites like the portobello mushroom chicken or the 7-ounce filet mignon. Making it the perfect restaurant for a girls’ night out or a romantic date night.

Pizza Pizza

Pizza Pizza is a popular franchise with restaurants throughout Canada, with over 750 locations. The first restaurant opened in 1967 with the commitment to quality. This includes using chickens that were raised without antibiotics, simple ingredients, and also taking a strong stance on animal treatment.

Why America Needs It

Pizza Pizza is popular throughout Canada for a reason. Not only are they committed to quality but also nutrition and offering fresh ingredients. The atmosphere at Pizza Pizza is boasted as friendly and warm. Since pizza is one of the more popular restaurants in America, we can always use more quality places for our next pizza movie night.

One Last Note

Finding a quality and delicious restaurant to eat at can be challenging. Sometimes the quality isn’t great, or the food options are limited. However, these seven Canadian restaurant chains should come to America for several reasons. Additionally, the commitment to quality, fresh ingredients, amazing atmosphere, and delicious food are all excellent reasons for Americans to get to experience each of them. Dishes From the Past That Every Boomer Remembers https://www.momswhothink.com/dishes-from-the-past-that-every-boomer-remembers/ https://www.momswhothink.com/dishes-from-the-past-that-every-boomer-remembers/#respond Sun, 09 Feb 2025 14:00:00 +0000 https://www.momswhothink.com/?p=265966&preview=true&preview_id=265966 The post Dishes From the Past That Every Boomer Remembers appeared first on Moms Who Think.

Recipes often get passed down through generations, some cherished by many while others are favorites of just a few. Certain ingredients are remembered with fondness, while others are best forgotten. Many of these dishes reflect the trends of their time, reaching peak popularity during specific eras, and Boomers certainly experienced their share of unforgettable meals.

Food fads and trends of the Boomer generation began with companies like Swanson who started a food revolution with the first TV dinner. This mind-blowing invention came out in 1953 and made mealtime quick and easy and gave Mom a little hard-earned break from the kitchen. It also set the stage for an entire industry to explore in the form of microwave dinners, which now line the freezer section at any grocery store.

Here are more unforgettable dishes that enjoyed hype while boomers were coming of age.

Meatloaf

Love it or hate it, every household had a meatloaf recipe that Mom patted out and baked for dinner at least once a week. Bonus points if it was served with mashed potatoes. Points deducted if it was too dry to choke down.

Pineapple Upside-Down Cake

While legend has it that this beauty of a dessert was first created in the 1920s, its popularity was sky-high in the 1950s. Moms everywhere coated the bottom of a pan with sliced pineapple and maraschino cherries, dumped some cake batter in, and baked it. The name comes from the triumphant finish when the cake is turned upside-down to reveal an impressive top layer of cooked fruit atop a fluffy cake.

Tuna Noodle Casserole

God loves a good casserole, amiright? And so did parents in the mid-1900s. Boomers in particular were subjected to this wildly popular dish made of canned tuna fish, egg noodles, some sort of condensed soup (a casserole staple), green peas, cheese and if you were lucky, some sort of crispy breadcrumb-type topping. It was all thrown together and baked. You were either a fan or you had to choke it down to join the Clean Plate Club.

Beef Stroganoff

With noodles and some sort of creamy gravy-like sauce being the key players in the 1950s culinary scene, most folks who came of age during that time will recall this dish vividly. The stand-out ingredient was beef. A dish with Russian roots, beef stroganoff was a cornucopia of beef and mushrooms dancing in a creamy sauce and dumped on a bed of egg noodles. Kids! Dinner’s ready!

Glazed Ham

Shifting gears, and perhaps blending a touch of the tropics into meal time, the glazed ham was a special occasion dish that many enjoyed on sacred holidays. Often decorated in a criss-cross design, the swine was then adorned with pineapple slices (again with the pineapple) or some other type of fruit — perhaps something of the citrus variety?

Ambrosia Salad

Dragging the pineapple back out of the pantry, it enjoyed another show-stopping run in any ambrosia salad recipe. This sweet side originated in the South, by all accounts, but eventually spread nationwide. Families everywhere enjoyed the taste of mini marshmallows amidst a sea of canned fruit and Cool Whip.

Beef Stew

This one hits a little close to home. It was on the nights my own mother made beef stew that I knew I’d be going to bed hungry. It appeared, however, that I was the odd kid out as my siblings enjoyed the dish, which was comprised of cubes of dry (SO, SO dry) beef, cooked (and mushy) carrots, peas, mushrooms, and potatoes in a thick, brown, beefy sauce. They wolfed it down while I tried not to dry heave. Perhaps my first lesson in how everyone is unique in their own way.

Chicken a la King

While beef stew at our house was not my favorite, chicken a la king, on the other hand, was a home run meal. Chicken, mushrooms, carrots, and peas in a creamy white sauce were poured atop either egg noodles, toasted bread, or other baked goods. Yes, it was as yummy as it sounds, and I still make it for my own family today.

Jell-O Salad

If Marcia Brady was ambrosia salad, then Jan was Jell-O salad. The two are similar, but one is slightly more complicated — and perhaps favored — than the other. Yes, Jell-O salad was a chilled gelatinous side, but where it lacked in marshmallows, it made up for in (wait for it) cottage cheese. Yes, a few simple ingredients, which also included whipped cream and gelatin powder, and you could have a side that wowed all who were invited to eat it.
